Senkt Viktimisierung das Sicherheitsempfinden (nicht)?

Mühler, Kurt January 2017 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 5130.pdf: 6009636 bytes, checksum: 39fc4f891a7ed80a6a53c74fd9de23af (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-03-30 / The rates of traffic accidents have shown a serious public health issue. The incompatibility between the built environment of cities, the behavior of drivers, the great movement of pedestrians under unsafe conditions, becomes Brazil one of the highest rates of traffic accidents worldwide. Trampling stands as the leading cause of death from accidents involving children from five to ten years old. Often, children at this age are starting school, that´s the point having a window of vulnerability in which both expectations about the demands of adults extrapolate the skills that these children are able to offer, if viewed on condition of pedestrians who are expected mature enough to cross streets safely. It s a huge justification, putting into practice investments researches focused on the preservation and integrity of life of children and teenagers. The school grounds are daily destination for millions of children worldwide, this study tried to identify the perception of groups of people who use the areas surrounding the school, in relation to traffic safety. The opinions were issued through completing questionnaires, using a Likert´s scale guided exclusively for engineering, traffic education and legal effort. This scale is widely used to verify people's opinion for a particular topic, because it requires respondents indicate a degree of agreement or disagreement with a series of statements related to the object of study. The diagnosis of these perceptions can contribute to a better understanding of the school environment, particularly related to traffic safety, offering subsidies to technicians responsible to develop policies, strategies and action plans, aimed at road safety. For purposes didactic only, this paper is divided into six chapters. The first presents the introduction, purpose and structure of the work, the second brings the theoretical explanation and the three "Es" of traffic insurance, the third section describes the scale used for the interpretation of the questionnaires and procedures for analysis of the questionnaires, the fourth shows the importance of the five (5) groups that guided this research, the fifth chapter is flagged with an overview of the schools and the sample size calculation for the analysis of questionnaires and finally the sixth and final chapter presents the conclusions and findings of the research, as well as some recommendations for further research in the area of traffic safety around the school areas.

Bus stop attributes and perception of safety : case study Huston Tillotson University

Gomez Sanchez, Ana Julita 17 February 2011 (has links)
This professional report examines the degree to which the perception of safety shapes travel behavior in Austin, Texas, using Huston Tillotson University (HT) students as our case study. Focus groups are used to explore and identify what elements of the public transit experience are considered safe and unsafe. The report explores what “frightens” HT participants away from using the bus. A quantitative study is then used to measure environmental variables and their relation to bus stops and perceptions of safety. Austin crime data are used to locate bus stop crimes and develop a real context for bus riders’ perceptions of crime. After describing the conditions of bus stops based on physical, environmental, and criminal attributes, the study develops scenarios for the study areas. This report closes by summarizing the empirical findings and gives design and policy recommendations for transportation planners, agencies, and policy makers. / text

Gated communities : Is it something to develop in the Swedish urban planning?

Gliori, Gabriel January 2018 (has links)
Gated communities is a phenomenon that has seen a big increase in popularity all around the world last years. The largest growth can be seen primarily in the United States, but also in Latin- and South America as well as South Africa. So what is a gated community? The definition of the word could be described as a gated residential area, which has security measures such as walls, fences and guarded gates, which intend to keep nonresidents away from the neighborhood. This form of living has faced massive criticism, and several researchers argue that these types of neighborhoods lead to an increased segregation. So what are the underlying causes behind this steep increase in demand of gated communities? What has been regarded as the absolutely biggest reason is an increased fear of being subject to crime and the search for security behind the gates. An interesting aspect is to study how effective a gated community is to actually help its residents achieve what they are searching for. Some studies show that the crime rate may actually be higher inside a gated community compared to the outside. The essay comes down to how well the conditions for establishment of gated communities in Sweden are. Studies show that the demand for gated communities in Sweden is high, but there are some obstacles, for example the "Right of Public Access", which complicates the building of fences. However, this is considered to be insufficient and the development towards a future with gated communities in Sweden will ultimately be impossible to stop. The overall purpose of this thesis has been to find out more about the phenomenon gated communities and to put it in a Swedish context. The method for accomplishing this has mainly consisted of a literature search, where the selection was made by only studying literature relevant to the research questions, as well as not studying literature which was far too site-specific or that did not have a neutral approach to the subject.
