Frekvence a významy slovesných perifrází v současné španělské próze / Frequency and use of Verbal Periphrases in Contemporary Spanish Literature

LÁVIČKOVÁ, Stanislava January 2010 (has links)
The thesis deals with the verbal periphrases. We investigated the frequency of their use in contemporary Spanish literature- in prose. The thesis consists of three main parts. The first part examines the definition of auxiliary verbs, indefinite verb forms, passive, and aspect of Czech and Spanish linguists. We also examined how periphrases are presented in Czech and Spanish textbooks of the Spanish language. Another part deals with the classification of the periphrases and their characteristics accompanied by examples of the analyzed works of M. Delibes. The final part is devoted to compare the results of our work with results of two academic works.

Gerundium ve španělštině a jeho ekvivalenty v češtině / Spanish gerund and its Czech equivalents

Vavroušová, Petra January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to analyse the Spanish gerund and its Czech equivalents. The thesis is divided into two parts: the theoretical one and the empirical one. We mainly drew from Spanish grammar books and Czech linguistic works. The gerund and its translation equivalents were compiled from the parallel Czech-Spanish corpus InterCorp. The excerpts were analysed from the linguistic point of view in order to provide a contrastive description of the Spanish gerund and its Czech equivalent expressions. The objective of the study was to describe the different types of Czech translation equivalents and their frequency. The results of the study also reveal that translation of the Spanish gerund into Czech is closely related to the conversion of the analytic language structure into the syntactic one. Therefore, some of the specific characteristics of translation of the gerund into Czech might be assigned to the concurrence of two typologically different languages.

Entre lexique et grammaire : les périphrases verbales du Français / Between vocabulary and grammar : verbal periphrasis of French

Liere, Audrey 10 December 2011 (has links)
Verbal circumlocutions hesitate between lexicon and grammar. We analyze those construct on the verbs "aller" "venir" and "être en train de" under the angle diachronic, from its origins to the Present day. So, diverse themes will be approach : question of grammaticalization, choice between auxiliary and semi-auxiliary, semantic weakening, question of auxiliarization...The prespositional forms are study, which a particular concern granted in role of presposition in quest.

O caráter vulgar da perífrase ir + infinitivo: estudo comparativo entre o catalão, o valenciano e o português / The vulgar character of the periphrasis ir + infinitive: a comparative study between Catalan, Valencian and Portuguese

Souza, Paula da Costa 19 February 2010 (has links)
Among the means used to broaden the paradigm of verbal inflections in romance languages, the employment of constructions that are vulgar in character is noteworthy: the periphrases. The compound verb forms present, at times, significant differences between the romance languages, such as the construction ir (indicative present tense) + infinitive. Whereas in Portuguese such a pattern is employed to denote future, Catalan uses it to refer to past actions. All romance languages considered, it can be verified that Catalan is the only language that makes this exceptional use of ir + infinitive. In spite of its widespread use, the employment of the Catalan periphrasis is not a consensus amongst its dialects: while the majority of them make use of the periphrasis instead of the simple past form, a small part of them prefer to use the synthetic form or both interchangeably. Although the matter of the formal coincidence of the periphrasis leads to important semantic awkwardness in relation to the other romance languages, the scope of this work is the comparison between Portuguese and Catalan languages, calling into question the norm/usage dichotomy. An analysis in diachronic perspective could lead to satisfactory understanding of the treatment and history of these periphrases in both languages.

Naming and Identity in Henry James's "The Ambassadors"

Bennett, Victoria 10 December 2012 (has links)
In Henry James’s novel "The Ambassadors," James uses axiological language in tropes and in substantives, periphrastically replacing proper names. He also includes valuations in miscellaneous data contained in such differences as the one he makes in "The Ambassadors" between "Europe" (place) and "'Europe'" (concept). As well, James puts adjectival assessments of people and situations in the midst of these constructions and in the mouths of his characters, assessments which vary from those which contradict the value systems posited in the novel by various characters, through those which seem quizzical or ambiguous, to those whose meaning seems obvious under the circumstances. The argument of this critical work is that these attempts at naming tie in fundamentally with the ways in which James means for readers to interpret the identities of the characters and the events and are not merely ornamental. Even when James says that a character "didn’t know what to call" someone or something or when "identity" or a verbal equation for identity occurs in an odd context, James answers his own implied rhetorical question; he is not as problematic to read as is sometimes suggested. Our own valuations are encouraged to be close to the experience of Lambert Strether. Leading the reader through the maze of Strether’s experience, James gives many clear signals from the simplest elements of his complicated language even into the fabrication of his complex metaphors that he, though an explorer of the moral universe, is no relativistic iconoclast. In the examination of these issues, a choice has been made to draw eclectically upon various sources and techniques, from traditional "humanistic" modes of interpretation, rhetorical studies, structuralist and deconstructionist remarks, to existentialism, narratology, and identity studies. This choice is the result of an intention to access as many different "voices" as possible, in the attempt to be comprehensive about the voices of James and "The Ambassadors."

The variation among the present future, periphrastic future and present with future value in the print media of the state of CearÃ

Maria HermÃnia Cordeiro Vieira 29 August 2014 (has links)
In this paper, we analyze, in the light of Socialfunctionalism, the variation between the present future, periphrastic future (IR + INFINITIVE) and present with future value, considering linguistic and extralinguistic conditions from the data extracted from printed media in the state of Cearà . To do so, we tested three groups of formal linguistic factors ( word extension, subject of speech, and polarity), three groups of discursive linguistic factors (point of futurity, temporal distancing, and type of verb) and three extralinguistic groups (editorial, newspaper and source the data). Our corpus was collected from ten copies of each of the four newspapers that currently make up the Cearà printed media, they are: DiÃrio do Nordeste, O Povo, O Estado, and Aqui CE. In the forty periodicals collected we found 2184 data regarding the variable present future, of which, 1181 are presented in the form of synthetic present future, 706 of present, and 297 of periphrasis. Our data were subjected to the statistical computer program Goldvarb X, which spawned the relative weights that served as the foundation for our description and data analysis. The program pointed out that the present future is conditioned by the groups: type of verb, word extension, editorial, newspaper, origin, temporal distancing, subject speech, and polarity. The periphrasis, on the other hand, is conditioned by the groups: type of verb, temporal distancing, Extension of the word, subject speech and Polarity. Finally, the indicative present is conditioned by the type of verb groups, word extension, temporal distancing, editorial, Origin, Newspapers and Polarity. The three variants occur in all the editorials of the four newspapers. However, the number of the conservative variable is greater than the sum of the data from the two innovative variants. All extralinguistic groups attended the principle of marking , except the one of the origin. The groups of linguistic factors , in turn , denied the principle of marking and attended the principle of stylistic expressiveness. We conclude , in extralinguistic groups , the trend is that the more marked forms occur in more marked contexts and less marked in less marked contexts. In relation to extralinguistic groups, the behavior is the seek for a contextual discourse balance.

Traditionally, the study of aspectual periphrases is constrained to canonical formations in Portuguese grammars. This study proposes to investigate metaphorically conventionalized constructions (Lakoff & Johnson 1980; 1999) of the EVENT AS MOVEMENT, recognized in some aspectual periphrases of contemporary Brazilian Portuguese (BP) from a corpus in which the Internet had a relevant contribution. From a sociocognitive approach, we propose that the realization of Aspect ( Comrie 1976; Salomão 1990; Castilho 2003), in terms of physical movements, leaves from our daily experience in the world throught our embodiment. Furthermore the hypothesis we support is that in this phenomenon the grammar instantiates as a network of Constructions (Goldberg 1995) in which methapor is assumed as motivation factor.
