internacionales International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) y

alumnos. / Tesis

ronquera, tensión, voz soplada, nasalidad y astenia.

medidas con el fin de obtener evidencias de las diversas propiedades psicométricas;
Psychological violence in work organizations is a phenomenon that has been
studied since many years from varied theoretical perspectives and approaches. The
literature suggest that violence and its many forms is a generalized phenomenon that is
not only very costly for organizations and the psychological well-being of workers but for
society as a whole.
One of the forms of interpersonal aggression that has increasingly been studied
in the last years is abusive supervision (AS). This type of interpersonal violence occurs
in the context of the supervisor – employee relationship and one of its features is that
the one who initiates the aggression is the supervisor. The aggression is by means of
hostile verbal and non-verbal behaviors that exclude physical contact. AS is a perceptive
phenomenon defined by the employee.
The literature review shows that although in the last years there has been an
increased in the number of publications about AS, there are almost no studies in Ibero-
America. Although there is some research in this context about workplace bullying, AS
is rarely analyzed.
This research aims at establishing a starting point for the study of AS in the
cultural reality of Ibero-America. To this aim two studies are set. The first deals with the
translation, adaptation and analysis of the psychometric properties of the AS scale. The
second study assesses the relations of AS with some well-being and ill-being
psychological variables adopting the Theory of Self-Determination (SDT) as the
conceptual framework.
In the first study, after applying the procedures of translation and adaptation, the
scale was administered to two groups of participants (group 1, N = 308; group 2, N =
283) with a six-months interval. Distinct measures were applied to each group to obtain
different validity evidences; a multi-group invariance test was also performed. It is
concluded that the scale is reliable and valid as it meets the expected psychometric
standards.
The goal of the second study was to analyze the relationship of AS with some
well-being and ill-being variables at work. In the well-being side, work engagement was
measured. Some authors regard engagement as the best indicator of psychological wellbeing
at work. In the ill-being side burnout and turnover intention were measured. In
addition, STD was adopted to study the mediation mechanisms between AS and the
outcome variables. SDT offered the mediation variables (needs satisfaction and types of
motivation) and the second predictive variable: autonomy support. During the research
it was found that autonomy support is basically the opposite of abusive supervision and
its mediation processes with the outcome variables were examined as well. The results
about AS were similar to what has been reported in the literature. AS is a unique
psychosocial risk factor whose negative effects on well-being are sound. In relation to
autonomy support the findings suggest that it is the distinctive characteristic of effective
leadership practices that not only fosters psychological well-being but it is the answer to
the abusive supervision problem.
The discussion section lays out some interventions to cope with AS in the
organizational context. SDT allowed not only to deepen the understanding of the
mediation mechanisms between AS and the outcome variable, but it also provided a
valuable theoretical framework to support organizational interventions aimed at reducing
and hopefully eliminate what is possible the most toxic workplace stressor that can infest
an organization. / Tesis

Object Relations Theory and Personal Construct Theory: Rapprochement OpportunityRasile, Karen D. 08 1900 (has links)
Empirical investigation of the tenets of Object Relations Theory is recent. This study of the theoretical convergence between Object Relations Theory and Personal Construct Theory brought a new direction to the empirical investigation. It was hypothesized that individuals who displayed a well developed level of object relations, as measured by Object Relations Theory, would also display a highly adaptive blend of cognitive complexity and ordination, as described by Personal Construct Theory, and vice versa. A correlational analysis of personality measures on 136 college students approached but did not attain statistical significance. Results indicated no significant theoretical convergence between Object Relations Theory and Personal Construct Theory. Further research is warranted only if greater variability in sample age, life experience, and psychopathology is assured.

Three essays on empirical corporate financeKhatami, Seyed Hossein January 2016 (has links)
This thesis investigates three topics in empirical corporate finance. In the first essay, the focus is on the role of financial constraints in the market for corporate control. In the second and third essays, we explore the effect of personal connections at board and executive levels on corporate credit rating and initial public offering (IPO) underpricing respectively. In the first essay, using a large sample of US acquisitions made between 1985 and 2013, we study the effect of financial constraints on acquisition gains and acquisition likelihood. Our findings show that financial constraints of target companies significantly increase acquisition premiums and abnormal returns for both parties. Our results further show that the presence of financial constraints in the target is one of the most important determinants of a takeover bid. This supports the idea that acquisitions may improve the ability of financially constrained companies to access capital through a better reallocation of resources within segments of the same company (e.g., internal capital market) or through better access to external markets. This would eventually benefit bidders too, as new capital would be invested in valuable growth opportunities that otherwise would expire unexercised. In the second essay, using a large sample of US public debt issues we show that personal connections between directors of issuing companies and rating agencies result in higher credit ratings. We estimate the average effect to be about one notch. The results are robust to several alternative tests including additional controls for managerial traits, placebo tests and propensity score matching. Moreover, our tests on default rates and bond yields do not appear to reflect a favourable treatment by the rating agency. Rather, they suggest that personal connections act as a mechanism to reduce asymmetric information between the rating agency and the issuer. In the final essay, using a large sample of IPOs in the U.S. we show that interpersonal connections between directors and top executives in issuers and underwriting banks result in significantly lower levels of IPO underpricing. We also examine the issuers' long-term stock returns following their IPOs. Our results indicate that the connected companies' long-term returns are not significantly different from the non-connected companies. This suggests that underwriters set lower levels of underpricing for the connected companies not to treat them favourably, but due to better flow of and stronger reliance on soft information and lower risk exposure.

Previous issue date: 2013-05-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The purpose of this dissertation heads for the observation of the mechanisms that surrounds the work of personal styling in the contemporary setting. The research was articulated from the perception that there is a mismatch between the multiplicity of proposals that the current fashion displays and the qualifying standards stipulated by personal styling. Given this context, the dissertation presents the cases of breaks of rules on dressing as a possibility to expand the repertoire for the personal styling. Taking the bricolage as a methodological option, we designed a set of theoretical tools capable of dialoguing with the data collected in media reports, blog posts, individual interviews and TV interviews. Rather than gathering information from various sources, this research promotes an interaction between my positions on the directions of personal styling, the clues that reveal breaking rules on dressing and the point of view of authors from the fields of fashion, philosophy, cultural studies and visual culture, building a reflection on the theme. Given this panorama, I try to discuss how the stylists can position themselves nowadays, how they can expand their field of action and also how they can act taking into consideration their customers’ lifestyle.

The integration of personal and professional ethical decision making constructs in trainee clinical psychologistsJenkin, Angela January 2018 (has links)
Ethical decision-making is an important but challenging aspect of the role of a clinical psychologist. Little research has been conducted concerning how clinical psychologists make ethical decisions, with even less known about how trainees manage the process during professional training. The current study aimed to examine how trainees make ethical decisions, and how this process differs between more and less experienced trainees. Thirty-nine trainee clinical psychologists were recruited from a total of 17 doctoral training programmes in the United Kingdom. The sample recruited was demographically similar to the training population. A cross-sectional design was used to examine differences between first year (n = 19) and third year (n = 20) trainees. An online version of The Defining Issues Test questionnaire (DIT-2, Rest et al., 1999) was used to measure level of sophistication of ethical development, and individual face to face or Skype repertory grid interviews examined the integration of trainees’ personal and professional ethical decision-making construct subsystems. The vast majority of trainees were found to adopt a sophisticated approach to ethical decision-making, with half of all ethical decisions made from within a postconventional schematic approach. However, a small minority operated from within schemata based on maintenance of societal norms or personal interests. A deterioration in sophistication of thinking was demonstrated for more experienced trainees. Less experienced trainees were found to rely comparatively more heavily on their personal construct subsystems than more experienced trainees and vice versa. Increased integration between the subsystems over the course of training was demonstrated. The study demonstrates support for an acculturation process occurring throughout training. Implications of this and ideas for future research are discussed.
