The effect of an adapted personal growth training programme on female victims of domestic violence in Potchefstroom / Koeshe V.P.

Koeshe, Valentia Puleng January 2011 (has links)
Violence against women in cohabiting and marital relationships is, at present, a prominent phenomenon in South Africa. Domestic violence against women and children in South Africa is widespread and on the increase, also in Potchefstroom. Yet limited interventions are available. The interventions that are available include the SAPS, the court for the protection order, NGO’s and social workers. Female victims need measures that focus on building and empowering them with skills. Therefore the researcher adapted the Personal Growth Programme of FAMSA in Welkom to cater for the needs of female victims of domestic violence who are currently or were previously in an abusive relationship. The newly formulated Personal Empowerment Training Programme (PETP) is a tool that provides the female victims with the opportunity to deal with poor self–image, emotional demoralisation, loss of selfhood, self–blame and shame. Aim The aim of the research was to determine the effect of the PETP on the knowledge, attitude and behaviour of female victims of domestic violence in Potchefstroom. Method The main core of the research can be depicted as programme evaluation in which an evaluative research design was used. In the main study an experimental group was subjected to the PETP, while the control group was not. However, both experiential group and control group had to complete the pre–post questionnaire. Results The results proved that the PETP had a positive impact on the knowledge, attitude and behaviour of female victims affected by domestic violence. / Thesis (M.A. (MW))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2012.

Oberholzer, Christoffel Johannes 24 July 2008 (has links)
In view of the overall dissatisfaction with the preaching of God’s Word in general, it is necessary to find a practical theological solution to the problem. The importance of a personal house call by the minister or preacher with a view to actual and topical preaching already seems to pose an answer. A visit by the preacher gives the member of his congregation an opportunity to make a contribution to the sermon/message. The preacher must not only give a thorough exergesis of the text, but it is imperative that he should also be familiar with his listeners. The text as well as its context is of cardinal importance for the actual preaching. Knowledge of the context creates space for the text to make the message topical under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The listeners want to hear the Lord in their own circumstances as well as to experience Him as their personal living redeemer. When either the context or the listeners’ participation in the preaching is underrated, the listeners remain untouched by the message and hardly experience a Word- or Spiritual event. The dialogical communication process requires personal contact between preacher and listeners during which not only the preacher hears the voice of God and delivers a message in the course of his visit, but so that the church member will also be able to share his experience with God with the preacher, and then with the congregation. Members of the congregation are also biblically tasked to uplift one another with the Word of God. It is a source of great concern that more and more preachers and church councils have come to regard personal home visits as old-fashioned or even obsolete. The empirical research has strongly supported the concern and needs of church members as regards fruitful home visits by officials of the church. Church councils and spiritual leaders should firmly establish the practice of house calls as one of the basic cornerstones of a healthy and constructive communication with the view to the practical and topical preaching of God’s Word. / Dissertation (MA (Theology) : Practical Theology)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

The influence of job requirements on the personal lives of planners in the Department of Land Affairs

Koto, Isaac Semathane 19 April 2010 (has links)
Work is a central activity in human lives and we cannot afford to talk about work and exclude employees, especially on how their personal lives are being influenced by the job requirements on daily basis. The work environments are ever changing due to a number of internal and external pressures. These changes result in adjustments of job requirements which in turn influence employees’ personal lives which constitute of the emotional, physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions. The nature and extent of the actual influence is depended of a number of factors like employee demographics, the business process of each job, employee perceptions about the requirements of their jobs and the actual job requirements demands. The goal of this study was to explore and describe the influence of the job-requirements on the personal lives of the Planners in the Department of Land Affairs. The objectives of this study were:

To conceptualise theoretically the influence of job requirements on the personal lives of employees.

To undertake an empirical study to investigate the influence of the specific job requirements on the personal lives of Planners in the Department of Land Affairs.

To draw conclusions and make recommendations to the Department of Land Affairs on how to address the needs of Planners and to formulate guidelines to enhance the Planners’ quality of life.

In the context of quantitative research, the researcher utilised applied research since this study was designed to offer practical solutions to problems experienced by the Department of Land Affairs on improving quality of life for Planners thus enhancing productivity. Group administered questionnaires were utilised as a data collection method and it was pilot tested with three employees at the National Office of the Department of Land Affairs who did not form part of the actual study. The population of the study was 51 and all of them completed the questionnaire. The results of the study showed that employees who were employed as Planners by the Department of Land Affairs at the Mpumalanga Regional Land Claims Commission, were exposed to job requirements which to a larger extent had a negative influence on certain dimensions of their personal lives. The goal of the study was achieved in that the researcher did not only manage to explore and describe the influence of the job requirements on the personal lives of the Planners in the Department of Land Affairs but also managed to give recommendations to the Department of Land Affairs on how to enhance quality of life of Planners. An international comparative study of the effect of personal income tax on labour migration

Mabaso, Nomvula Dzunisani 12 March 2012 (has links)
Individuals are constantly on the lookout for tax incentives or ways in which they can pay less tax without ending up in the tax authorities‟ bad books. Driven by the desire for a better life, individuals are willing to try everything within their legal powers and rights to avoid having to pay exorbitant taxes. South African employees are in no way an exception to these circumstances. Urged on by their belief that South African taxes are unreasonably high, individuals have crossed international borders in the hope of finding a location where their income will not be subject to exorbitant taxes. Research on the effects of taxation on labour migration has been carried out in countries such as Australia, the Netherlands, Norway and Indonesia. Although greatly affected by the growing population of labour migration, the majority of the research conducted in South Africa with regard to labour migration has focused mainly on the reasons motivating migration among skilled South African labourers. As far as could be determined, little or no research has been conducted to assess whether the reasons (inter alia, the South African personal income tax system) cited by South Africans justify the rapid rate at which South Africans flee from the country. The aim of this study is to establish whether South African employees working in the Netherlands and Australia receive any tax incentives or beneficial tax treatment that they otherwise would not have received had they remained employed in South Africa. This objective will be achieved by assessing whether a South African employee is placed in a more beneficial tax position when they accept international employment assignments in the Netherlands and Australia as opposed to the tax position they would find themselves in should they turn down any and all international employment assignments (i.e. remain employed in South Africa no matter what). The study will discuss the tax principles an employee will be subject to upon accepting an international employment assignment in either Australia or the Netherlands. The tax principles of the respective countries will then be compared to those applicable to employees who remain employed in South Africa. This comparison will be conducted with the primary objective of establishing in which of the three countries a South African employee receives the most beneficial tax treatment.

Rust, Zahn 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2012. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis is a personal, poststructuralist study of the researcher’s mapping of the self. The researcher refers to her art practice as an action of research and at the same time, a process of reality production. The images that are created through the art making processes, feeds back into reality. The argument for the production of reality images, relies specifically on the non-representational ‘model’ of Deleuze and Guattari. The foundation of this study is based on a theoretical and practical study of the role of personal space and objects in this complex network of production. This thesis argues for the consideration of self as an ‘open’ map and to expand the fiction and idea of representation.

Doeloriëntering en selfkonsep in spansport met besondere verwysing na skolerugby / Goal orientation and self-concept in teamsport with special reference to school rugby

Strydom, Lukas Albertus 10 1900 (has links)
The research investigated, in the literature and empirically, the possible relation between the goal orientation of male adolescent rugby players and their self-concept. The literature study indicated that goal orientation has two components, namely task involvement and ego involvement. In task-involved sport participation, skills development is emphasized, evaluation of achievement is self-referenced, and success experienced when learning takes place, a task is mastered, or when there is improvement in the execution of tasks. Success is attributed to effort. In ego-involved sport participation objective outcomes are emphasized (i.e. winning), evaluation of achievement is norm-based, and success experienced when own achievements are favourably compared to those of other sport participants. Success is attributed to natural ability. The empirical study indicated a positive relation between task-involved sport participation and the global, personal, and social self. A negative relation between ego-involved sport participation and the physical self, and a positive relation between ego involvement and competition-anxiety was found. / Educational Studies / M.Ed.

Botha, Deonie Francesca 06 1900 (has links)
Structured mentoring was identified as a method to develop the professional and personal skills of the employees of the National Library of South Africa in order to adjust to local and global changes. A conceptual framework for the study of mentoring, as developed by Hunt and Michael, was therefore critically adapted in order to investigate fully the phenomenon of "mentoring" by means of an exploratory literature review. The findings of the literature review are supported by an empirical survey to test the suitability of the National Library of South Africa as contextual environment for the application of mentoring, as well as the willingness of its employees to participate in mentoring. This culminated in an analysis and interpretation of the findings and formulation of conclusions regarding the two abovementioned requirements for the successful application of mentoring. The study ends with recommendations for further investigation into aspects of mentoring which could not be covered in this study. / Information Science / M. Inf.
