Phase Characteristics of the Countermovement Jump Force-Time Curve: A Comparison of Athletes by Jumping Ability

The purpose of this study was to compare the phase characteristics of the countermovement jump (CMJ) force-time (F-t) curve between athletes based on jumping ability. An initial sample of one-hundred fifty Division-I collegiate athletes were ranked based on CMJ height. Three performance groups were then formed by taking the top, middle, and lower 30 athletes (15 men and 15 women) from the sample. Phases of the CMJ F-t curve were determined and then characterized by their duration, magnitude, area (impulse), and shape (shape factor). A series of 3-way mixed analysis of variance were used to determine statistical differences in phase characteristics between performance groups as well as between male and female athletes. Statistically significant phase-by-performance group interactions were observed for relative phase magnitude (p < 0.001), relative phase impulse (p < 0.001), and shape factor (p = 0.002). Phase-by-sex interactions were statistically significant for both relative phase magnitude (p < 0.001) and relative phase impulse (p < 0.001). Post hoc comparisons indicated that higher jumpers exhibited larger relative magnitude and impulse in the phases contained within the positive area of the F-t curve. Similarly, relative phase magnitude and impulse were the only phase characteristics to be statically different between men and women. Finally, the relative shape of the phase representing the initial rise in force was found to relate to jump height. These results provide some information regarding the diagnostic value of qualitative analysis of the CMJ F-t curve.

The Use of an Optical Measurement System to Monitor Sports Performance

The purpose of this study was to compare ground contact time between an optical measurement system and a force platform. Participants in this study included six collegiate level athletes who performed drop jumps and sprint strike steps for a total of 15 repetitions each. Ground contact data was simultaneously collected from an optical measurement system and a force platform, at a sampling frequency of 1000 Hz. Data was then analyzed with Pearson’s correlation and paired sample t-tests. The measures from the optical measurement system were found to be significantly higher (p < 0.001) than measures from the force platform in both conditions. Although significantly different, the extremely large relationships (0.979, 0.993) found between the two devices suggest the optical sensor is able to detect similar changes in performance to that of a force platform. Practitioners may continue to utilize optical sensors to monitor performance as it may provide a superior user-friendly alternative to more traditional based monitoring procedures, but must comprehend the inherent limitations due to the design of the optical sensors.

Modelo tecnológico de servicio de información farmacológica ambulatoria utilizando una plataforma cloud

En el Perú, la calidad de los servicios de salud es un requisito constante para la población como también una prioridad. “El 49% de los peruanos considera que los servicios de salud son muy malos, mientras que el 47% piensa que son regulares y únicamente el 4% asegura que sí son buenos”. (Datum Internacional S.A, 2017) Por ello, se considera que los grandes problemas del sector salud están en la prestación de servicios y no realmente en el financiamiento del sector; esto produce que los procesos de atención médica sean poco sostenibles. Adicional a ello, La Encuesta Nacional de Satisfacción de Usuarios en Salud del 2015 reveló que existen problemas muy críticos que resolver, como por ejemplo manifiesta que “El tiempo de espera para ser atendido en un consultorio, ha aumentado con respecto a 2014 cuando se registró un tiempo promedio de 81 minutos de espera, ahora el tiempo es de 104 minutos”. (Gestión, 2016) En base a la información mencionada anteriormente, se propone mejorar el servicio de atención ambulatoria mediante un modelo tecnológico de servicio de información farmacológica ambulatoria utilizando una plataforma cloud; esta propuesta permitirá brindar información, administrar los datos de enfermedades comunes y migrarlos a la nube para integrarlos mediante una interfaz desarrollada en una plataforma cloud. Con esta solución se estima reducir la asistencia a los servicios de salud y minimizar los tiempos de espera a una respuesta de una enfermedad común, ya que la información será expuesta en una aplicación móvil. / In Peru, the quality of health services is a constant requirement and a priority for the population. "49% of Peruvians believe that health services are very bad, while 47% think they are good." (Datum International S.A., 2017) Therefore, we confirm that the main problems in the health sector are in the quality of services and not how much can they spend in the sector; this makes health care processes unsustainable. In addition, the National Health Users Satisfaction Survey of 2015 revealed that there are very critical problems that need to be resolved, for example, by stating that "the waiting time to be treated in a clinic has increased compared to 2014 when an average of time of 81 minutes waiting, now the time is 104 minutes. "(Gestión, 2016) Based on the information mentioned above, the best ambulatory care service is offered through an ambulatory mobile pharmacological information service application using the platform cloud; this proposal is useful because we can manage common disease data and migrates to the cloud to integrate into a platform developed in platform cloud. With this solution, it is possible to reduce attendance to health services and minimize waiting times for the response of a common disease, since the information was exposed in a mobile application. / Tesis

La méta-optique non linéaire tout diélectrique suscite un vif intérêt, grâce à la faisabilité de nanostructures à contraste élevé et indice de réfraction disponible avec la lithographie à semi-conducteurs. Alors que des effets nonlinéaires au troisième ordre ont été rapportés dans les nanoantennes silicium sur isolant, la plate-forme AlGaAs-sur-isolant a récemment permis la démonstration de la génération de la seconde harmonique, dû à la noncentrosymétrie de ce matériel. Cette thèse illustre notre activité récente sur les nanoantennes non linéaires AlGaAs-sur-AlOx, où AlOx est obtenu par attaque chimique sélective par voie humide d'une couche épitaxiale d'AlGaAs riche en aluminium d'une épaisseur de quelques micromètres. Un tel substrat à faible indice de réfraction permet de découpler efficacement les modes nanoantenna de la tranche de GaAs (100) sous-jacent. La thèse présente d'abord les méthodes numériques, expérimentales et technologiques utilisées. Une analyse des résultats obtenus dans la génération de signaux non linéaires dans des nanoantennes simples et dans des structures complexes est ensuite présentée. Tous nos résultats expérimentaux ouvrent la voie à la génération et à la manipulation de signaux non linéaires à l'échelle nanométrique et pointent vers des applications telles que l'holographie non linéaire, la goniométrie sans fond et la vision nocturne. / All-dielectric nonlinear meta-optics is attracting a great deal of interest thanks to the feasibility of high refractive-index contrast nanostructures available with semiconductor lithography. While third order nonlinear effects have been reported in silicon-on-insulator nanoantennas, the AlGaAs-on-insulator platform has recently enabled the demonstration of second harmonic generation, owing to the non-centrosymmetry of this material. This PhD thesis illustrates our recent activity on AlGaAs-on-AlOx nonlinear nanoantennas, where AlOx is obtained from selective wet etching of micrometer-thick aluminium-rich AlGaAs epitaxial layer. Such a low refractive index substrate allows to effectively decouple the nanoantenna modes from the underlying GaAs (100) wafer. The thesis first introduces the numerical, experimental and technological methods employed. Afterwards, a review of the results obtained in nonlinear signal generation in single nanoantennas and in complex structures is given. All our experimental results pave the way towards nonlinear signal generation and manipulation at the nanoscale, and point towards applications such as nonlinear holography, background-free goniometry and night vision.

Applied System Identification for a Four Wheel Reaction Wheel Platform By Seth Franklyn Silva At the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo there is a four-wheel reaction wheel pyramidal simulator platform supported by an air-bearing. This simulator has the current capability to measure the wheel speeds and angular velocity of the platform, and with these measurements, the system identification process was used to obtain the mass properties of this simulator. A handling algorithm was developed to allow wireless data acquisition and command to the spacecraft simulator from a “ground” computer allowing the simulator to be free of induced torques due to wiring. The system identification algorithm using a least squares estimation scheme was tested on this simulator and compared to theoretical analysis. The resultant principle inertia about the z-axis from the experimental analysis was 3.5 percent off the theoretical, while the other inertias had an error of up to 187 percent. The error is explained as noise attributed to noise in the measurement, averaging inconsistencies, low bandwidth, and derivation of accelerations from measured data.

Long-term Study of Crowdfunding Platform: Predicting Project Success and Fundraising Amount

Crowdfunding that is the combination word of crowdsourcing and funding makes people can start a business easily. Legislating JOBS act in US played a major role in removing restricted barriers of crowdfunding on public offerings of fence and private funds for small business. The growth speed of crowdfunding takes some beating. Through Kickstarter that is a popular crowdfunding platform and being considered the typical case of crowdfunding, 480 million dollars and more than half a billion dollars were invested in about 19 thousand and 22 projects for 2013 and 2014 respectively. But in spite of the rapid growth, the successful rate of projects at large is decreasing because of imprudent project launching. People just imagine a success story of some triumphant projects without any kind of preparedness when they launch a project. Up to now most of papers researched based on Kickstarter platform because it is the biggest crowdfunding site. But there is no research paper studying with the entire data yet. So, we gathered all the project's main pages in Kickstarter that are finished whether a project is funded or not from its launched date on 2009 to September, 2014. And we also collected all users' profile pages including initiators and backers. The goal of this research project is to analyze evolution of projects and users, investigate techniques and predict successfully funded projects and expected pledged funding levels, and providing intelligent search and discovery based on time series patterns of projects. To successfully achieve the goal, we propose to analyze all projects and users in Kickstarter toward understanding evolution of them over time and thus develop statistical models to automatically predict successfully funded projects and expected funding level. We used as many features as possible such as features being obtainable from text (project main, reward and biography description). Our result will be very helpful for people especially a person preparing a crowdfunding project to fulfill a dream.

Development of an efficient human hepatocyte culture platform for assessing novel therapeutic efficacy against Plasmodium liver parasites

Malaria is a critical and global public health problem, affecting over 200 million people every year, resulting in over 500,000 deaths. A vaccine is not currently available and only one drug, primaquine, is effective against the dormant stages of Plasmodium vivax. Preclinical assessment of novel therapeutic drugs and vaccines is hampered by the lack of an in vitro liver model for P. falciparum and P. vivax. To provide a stable human hepatocyte-based culture platform for parasite development, we engineered a microfluidic bilayer device capable of both simple and complex culture methods, including perfusion and co-culture, to better understand the requirements of both hepatocytes as host cells and parasite liver stage development. As only the mechanical compaction of the device channels was found necessary for stable hepatocyte culture, and only a validated host cell lot was found necessary for improved parasite development rates, we present an efficient and simple Plasmodium liver model capable of supporting P. vivax dormant forms. Device liver platforms were used to generate kill curves of P. vivax and P. falciparum after three days under primaquine drug pressure. Furthermore, an anti-CSP antibody-based inhibition of development assay with P. falciparum successfully demonstrated antibody-specific liver stage inhibition. Ongoing studies aim to identify the minimal unit of the culture system necessary to be multiplexed in a fully functional and efficient drug and vaccine discovery platform.

Introduction: Companies’ interest in social media have been radically increased recently. Marketing is no longer the same as it has been before and today's society has left the traditional marketing behind. Society has contributed to the fact that companies have realized the need to possess and utilize social media as a marketing strategy. Aim: The purpose of the study is to find out which post leads to sales on Instagram and which products can be sold on Instagram. Method: The study is based on a quantitative research method where the response is analyzed from Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Results: The result shows the total statistics of the quantitative survey in the form of tables, figures and hypotheses. Conclusion: The study falsifies and verifies the hypotheses. The study concludes that marketing on Instagram leads to ever higher purchasing decisions for consumers. Posts with the product category clothes, accessories and furnishings are sold better than other products on Instagram. / Inledning: Företags intresse för sociala medier har ökats radikalt den senaste tiden. Marknadsföring är inte längre på samma sätt som den varit och dagens samhälle har lämnat den traditionella marknadsföringen bakom sig. Samhället har bidragit till att företag har insett behovet i att besitta och nyttja sociala medier som en marknadsföringsstrategi. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att genom en undersökning förklara vilka inlägg som leder till försäljning på Instagram samt vilka produkter som går att sälja på Instagram. Metod: Studien grundas på en kvantitativ forskningsmetod där responsen analyseras från Microsoft Excel och SPSS. Resultat: Resultatet visar sammanlagda statistiken av den kvantitativa undersökningen i form av tabeller, figurer och hypoteser. Slutsats: Studien falsifierar och verifierar hypoteserna. Studiens slutsats är att marknadsföring på Instagram leder till allt högre köpbeslut för konsumenter. Advancements in web technology such as the integration of operating platforms, the application of mobile applets and connectivity with databases into an encompassing web environment has promoted the development of complex web-based systems for enterprise computing. In this integration the inherent security flaws and associated problems of these technological advancements are also brought together under this web environment. These flaws, when exploited, could lead to system compromises of various kinds including stealing of security sensitive information, system take-over fabrication of fake electronic documents and illegal alteration to web sites contents. Therefore, the successful, prompt and appropriate responses of these complex web-based systems to security threats and breaches, such as in the cases of document tampering and misrepresentation from illegal users, are imperative in promoting the user's willingness and confidence when interacting with these systems. Accordingly, this has become one of the major concerns in development, management and operation of web-based systems. This thesis also studies the authentication of dynamic web contents through the application of a one-time digital signature. To this effect, relevant concepts and possible approaches have been discussed.
