Problematiska beteenden vid demens

Axelsson, Annika, Nilsson, Hanna January 2008 (has links)
The inhabitants of Sweden become older and older and following this an increase of the number of people suffering from dementia can be seen. Dementia is a progressive disease and the need for nursing care increases as the disease ad-vances. Difficulties in handling behaviours such as aggression and agitation displayed by people with dementia, has turned out to be a problem for nursing staff. The aim of this study has been to compile literature concerning different useful approaches towards people with dementia, in situations perceived as prob-lematic by nursing staff, and to examine what kind of support the staff need in order to deal with these people in a professional way. A systematic literature review was performed according to Goodman (SBU, 1993) where 13 scientific articles were used after searches in the PubMed and Cinahl databases. The result presents the importance of the nursing staff trying to find underlying reasons for the displayed problematic behaviours and also adjusting the nursing care accor-ding to the individual patient. Factors such as good communication, emotional presence and knowledge about the patients’ life history are emphasized. When it comes to the needs of the staff, the areas education and systematic guidance arose.

Persons With Histories of Traumatic Brain Injury and Problematic Sexual Behavior: An Exploratory Analysis

LeMay, Carrie C., Stinson, Jill D. 29 December 2021 (has links)
Persons with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) who have engaged in problematic or illegal sexual behavior present with complex assessment and intervention needs yet remain understudied within the empirical literature. In the current exploratory analysis, important differences in adaptive and clinical functioning, adverse childhood experiences, and criminal offense history are examined in 25 persons with previous brain injury, 118 persons with intellectual disability but no known TBI, and 103 persons with no history of brain injury or intellectual disability, all of whom have engaged in problematic sexual behavior and who were residing in secure forensic inpatient care. Group differences were examined using comparisons of means and chi-squares. Results highlight important differences in education and employment experiences, diagnostic presentation, exposure to childhood maltreatment, and justice system involvement and characteristics of their sexual offense victims. Associations with prior literature and future research directions are discussed.

Problematic Internet Use in Residence Halls

Quirk, Graham 01 January 2015 (has links)
College students are at higher risk to develop problematic internet use (PIU) than the average person and that risk may negatively impact their college success. Since students with PIU are not violating policies, they are not being identified as having a problem through the student conduct process like other students with problems such as alcohol abuse. While research on PIU is still in its infancy, the research that has been conducted indicates that PIU is a growing problem with no agreed upon definition, diagnosis or treatment. The main purpose of this study was to determine the extent that PIU and PVP exists in residence halls on college campuses. The theoretical framework was the addiction syndrome theory (AST) and is the only current model that can be used to explain all addictions, including behavioral addictions which is the category of addiction the PIU falls under. The main measurement tool was the Young internet addiction test (IAT) which measures levels of online activity. The results of this study were inconclusive. There was a low correlation between online activity and academic performance as measured by academic probation. The weak relationship indicates that PIU may be an issue for college students and therefore may need to be considered when administrators are making policies. Whether the AST proves to be a valid conceptual framework for studying PIU and other addictions remains to be seen. The results here were inconclusive and therefore further research involving AST is needed before drawing any real conclusions.

Skolan som organisation genom gräsrotsbyråkratins ögon : En studie av hur skolan arbetar med problematisk skolfrånvaro ur ett gräsrotsperspektiv / The school as an organization through the eyes of the grassroots bureaucrat : A study of how the school works with problematic school absenteeism from a grassroots perspective

Ocharan Guanilo, Grecia Ocharan, Forsback, Josephine January 2022 (has links)
Tahe starting point of this study is to investigate how the school organizationally works as an institution to counteract problematic school absence. The school is a large part of society as well as an institution that shapes the citizens, at the same time as the schools have a mission to promote the individual´s progression and learning. The schools function to benefit society as well individuals with their personal development make the school a complex organization. The school's organization includes many different areas and it’s therefore difficult to examine in this individual study. We have therefore chosen to focus on the school staff´s work with problematic school absence. The theoretical ground this study is based on is called 'street level bureaucracy'. This theory describes the school staff’s labor from within an organization while having direct contact with members of the general public. The Swedish analogy of this term is gräsrotsbyråkrati. The material that will be used consists of existing literature on the subject as well as interviews conducted with school staff in which they provide their experience of how the organization works with students' problematic school absence. Through the school staff’s experience, we can get a deeper insight into schools organizational structures. The study's conclusion is that school staff need to have a greater influence in the organization's management. Furthermore this study concludes that school staff in general have a much higher need to influence the creation of government documents than they currently have. This need for more influence stems from the fact that they themselves have to carry out these policies on a daily basis and therefore have the necessary expertise on the subject.

Peacekeeping and Critical Theory.

Pugh, Michael C. January 2004 (has links)
no / A deconstruction of the role of peace support operations suggests that they sustain a particular order of world politics that privileges the rich and powerful states in their efforts to control or isolate unruly parts of the world. As a management device it has grown in significance as the strategic imperatives of the post-industrialized, capitalist world have neutered the universal pretensions of the United Nations. Drawing on the work of Robert Cox and Mark Duffield, this essay adopts a critical theory perspective to argue that peace support operations serve a narrow, problem-solving purpose - to doctor the dysfunctions of the global political economy within a framework of liberal imperialism. Two dynamics in world politics might be exploited to mobilize a counter-hegemonic transformation in global governance. First, a radical change in the global trade system and its problematic institutions will create opportunities to emancipate the weak from economic hegemony. Second, future network wars are likely to require increasingly subtle and flexible teams, similar to disaster relief experts, to supply preventive action, economic aid and civilian protection. This might only be achieved by releasing peace support operations from the state-centric control system, and making them answerable to more transparent, more democratic and accountable multinational institutions.
