Daarby is mentorskap
bereid wees om betrokke te raak by so 'n program.
raak by die mentorskapproses.
Structured mentoring was identified as a method to develop the professional and personal skills of the
employees of the National Library of South Africa in order to adjust to local and global changes.
A conceptual framework for the study of mentoring, as developed by Hunt and Michael, was therefore
critically adapted in order to investigate fully the phenomenon of "mentoring" by means of an exploratory
literature review. The findings of the literature review are supported by an empirical survey to test the
suitability of the National Library of South Africa as contextual environment for the application of
mentoring, as well as the willingness of its employees to participate in mentoring. This culminated in an
analysis and interpretation of the findings and formulation of conclusions regarding the two abovementioned
requirements for the successful application of mentoring.
The study ends with recommendations for further investigation into aspects of mentoring which could not
be covered in this study. / Information Science / M. Inf.

Text in Afrikaans / It has been said that pupils are not adequately trained to think independently in
the current educational system of South Africa. Therefore this research has been
undertaken from a psycho-educational perspective to assess the contribution
which a programme in cognitive empowerment can make towards the cognitive
development and especially the general psychological development of teaching
students in their final study year as potential career entrants. From this viewpoint
recommendations can be made re the use of this programme in the broader
educational context.
In this study research has been done from a psycho-educational perspective
concerning the cognitive, affective, normative and conative development of the
late adolescent and the early career entrant and his/her personality in terms of
this career. A group of final year teaching students, who were potential career
entrants completed the Programme in Cognitive Empowerment. Before and after
the presentation of this programme different media of evaluation were put into
use. Based on this research, deductions have been made concerning the
contribution which training in the programme has made to the development of the
novice teachers. Finally, recommendations have been made concerning the
implementing of such a programme.
Gevolglik is in hierdie navorsing vanuit
is.

The Psycho-social Experiences of Children Living with Vertically Transmitted HIV/AIDS at Messina Hospital, South AfricaRamarumo, Takalani 21 September 2018 (has links)
MA (Psychology) / Department of Psychology / The aim of the study was to explore the psycho-social experiences of children living with
vertically transmitted HIV/AIDS in Messina Hospital, South Africa. The study utilised the
qualitative approach, in particular the exploratory research design. The population of the
study comprised both male and female children between the ages of 12-17 years, who are
receiving care and support at Fountain of Hope Clinic in Messina Hospital. Non-probability
sampling, in particular its sub-type, purposive sampling, was used to select the children who
participated in the study. Eleven participants (11) were interviewed, and the sample size of
the study was guided by data saturation during data collection. Semi-structured, open-ended
face to face interviews were used to collect data. In order to analyse data, the researcher
adopted thematic content analysis, following Tech’s eight steps of qualitative data analysis.
Three main themes emerged from the raw data, namely living with HIV/AIDS infection;
challenges of living with HIV/AIDS infection; and coping with HIV/AIDS. Sub-themes
emerged from the main themes. Ethical considerations were observed and trustworthiness
was ensured in the study. The study results were analysed and recommendations based on the
results were formulated to enhance the experiences of children living with vertically
transmitted HIV/AIDS. / NRF

Les relations affinitaires au travail : caractérisation, développement et conséquences / Friendship at work : characteristics, development and consequencesD'hont, Laura 18 May 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to understand an invisible but significant phenomenon in organizations: friendship ties at work. The conceptual framework combines philosophy and psychosocial studies with network approach and workplace friendship perspectives from the management literature. It highlights the characterization, development and consequences of friendship ties at work. Through individual and group-level analysis, the methodology is based on life stories and multiple case studies of work teams. Four types of workplace friendships are identified: « personal friends », « work friends », « strategic friends » and « work enemies ». Their development is influenced by individual and inter individual factors as well as organizational structure and culture. Friendship ties have also consequences on well-being, motivation, collaboration and functioning of teams at work. The findings underline that workplace friendships are more structuring for the functioning of organizations based on strong potential of collaboration.

Psycho-sociální faktory stravovacích návyků a jejich prožívání u sportovců. / Psycho-social factors in eating habits and their perception among athletes.Janáková, Kristína January 2020 (has links)
The main goal of the diploma thesis is to examine the issue of psycho-social contexts of eating habits and their experience in athletes. The theoretical part summarizes the findings to date on the issue of nutrition and eating disorders in athletes and possible preventive measures. The empirical part presents qualitative research on a sample of six Czech and Slovak athletes. The research is carried out through a semi-structured in-depth interview and three diagnostic questionnaires. The information obtained is processed into individual case studies and an overall summary. Due to the size of the research population and the nature of the study, it is not possible to generalize the results to the entire population of athletes. In a specific research cohort, all respondents had a negative comment related to body weight or physical appearance as a risk factor leading to nutritional problems. The main protective factor for all respondents was social support and support from their relatives. The outputs provide many recommendations for athletes, coaches and other specialists who work with athletes. Keywords psycho-social factors of eating habits, disordered eating, eating disorders in sport, female athlete triad, relative energy deficiency in sport, LMI, prevention of eating disorders in sport

Addressing behavioural challenges of orphaned learners who head households : a psycho-educational programme to enhance learningMushayi, Josaya 11 1900 (has links)
The changing structures of families and the increase in the number of child headed families are progressively becoming noticeable both nationally and internationally. Reviewed literature has confirmed that the increasing trend in orphan status among school going age over the period 2002-2009, is of major concern. A growing body of literature also indicates that child headed families and orphan hood are becoming common phenomena in many African countries in general and South Africa in particular. This scenario presents certain challenges especially on the orphaned children‘s learning and schooling experiences as well as their behavioural and social interaction patterns. The phenomenon calls for greater educational support for such learners at school and home. Increasingly, teachers and schools world over are expected to respond to the changing educational environment and contextual realities of schooling that include the orphaned learners who head households.
The aim of this thesis was to address the behavioural challenges that orphaned learners who head household experience and to develop a psycho-educational programme to support their learning. A qualitative instrumental case study research design was used with a study sample of 30 orphaned learners living in child headed household aged 10 to 16 years, ten Life Orientation Teachers, four members of School Management Team, eight members of School Based Support Team (SBST) and four Social Workers who were purposively sampled to participate in the study. The study was conducted in 15 classes located at four schools (3 secondary, 1 primary) in Taledi Area, Mamusa Circuit located in Ipelegeng Township of Schweizer Reneke town under Dr R.S. Ruth Momphati District-North West Province, South Africa.
In order to answer the research question, data was collected using a variety of data collection techniques. These were semi structured interviews, observations and documentary analysis. Data obtained was analysed using the interpretational analysis method to determine the common themes and sub themes describing the behavioural challenges that the orphaned learners experience during schooling in the playgrounds and in the classroom. Data analysed revealed that although orphaned learners are socially strong with regard to interaction with their peers, they experience learning difficulties in the classroom leading to underperformance and grade repeating. The study also noted that orphaned learners exhibit negative conduct behaviours and negative social interaction patterns with their LO teachers and members of the school management team. The study also revealed that emotional problems and lack of material support are common phenomena amongst these learners. The study arrived at the recommendation that a psycho-educational programme to address the behavioural challenges be developed to enhance the academic performance of the learners. / Psychology of Education / D. A psycho-educational programme to enhance the efficacy of parents of adolescentsKerr, Pamela Pearl 30 November 2008 (has links)
The aim of this study was to develop, implement and evaluate a psycho-educational programme to enhance the efficacy of parents of adolescents. Thus, the research project can be identified as formative, evaluative research. To this end, an investigation was undertaken to determine how the efficacy of parents of adolescents could be enhanced through an understanding of:
* the life phase of adolescence;
* the life phase of parents of adolescents;
* the role of parents of adolescents;
* factors influencing the parenting of adolescents (e.g., generational effects and the influence of family structure on parenting);
* the challenges facing adolescents and their parents which may hamper parenting efficacy;
* factors which assist parents of adolescents to overcome challenges and improve their parenting efficacy;
* parenting skills which foster parenting efficacy; and
* the nature of a psycho-educational programme which could enhance the efficacy of parents of adolescents.
A literature study provided the theoretical background to the development of the above mentioned programme. In the next phase of the study, a psycho-educational programme was developed based on the literature review, a study of similar programmes and a pilot study conducted with parents. The programme aimed at helping parents to become aware of their parenting practices, to encourage them to increase knowledge and understanding of themselves and of their adolescent children and to develop personal strategies and skills to cope with parenting challenges. The programme was implemented with a group of 21 parents of adolescents (five fathers and sixteen mothers) living in George, South Africa during sessions held once per week over a period of six weeks. Participants were divided into three groups: six single parents; eight parents of nuclear families; and seven parents from blended-extended families. Data was collected qualitatively during each meeting. In addition, focus groups were conducted at the end of the six weeks. The findings indicated that the programme enhanced the efficacy of the participating parents in supporting the development of their adolescent children. / Educational Studies / D.Ed (Psychology of Education)

Investigating the psycho-social needs of orphaned adolescent learners in the context of HIV and AIDS : a case study of a high school in Bulawayo, ZimbabwePhuthi, Kesiwe 06 1900 (has links)
Orphans from child care institutions and from extended families attend the same schools as non-orphans. They are often given the same psycho-social support yet it is clear that they have different psycho-social needs. Their backgrounds are usually different from those of other adolescent learners because, often, they would have observed or nursed sick parents who eventually died from AIDS-related illnesses. This qualitative study aimed at investigating the psycho-social needs of orphaned adolescent learners in child care institutions and those in extended families in the context of HIV and AIDS. The study further sought to find out how the psycho-social needs affected the HIV- and AIDS-affected orphans’ school performance and social behaviour. In-depth interviews were conducted with four orphaned learners from child care institutions and four from extended families using open-ended questions. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. Findings of the study were that the psycho-social needs of AIDS-affected orphans in families were met by relatives more than those of AIDS-affected orphans in child care institutions. The results of the study also revealed that there was not much difference in school performance between HIV- and AIDS-affected orphans from extended families and those from child care institutions. Thus this study contributes to Sociological and Behavioural literature in the area of HIV and AIDS as well as the education literature of the vulnerable groups like orphans. The school offered psycho-social support en masse with no special programme for orphans affected by HIV and AIDS for fear of stigmatising the orphans. / Health Studies / M.A. (Social Behaviour Studies in HIV/AIDS)

Guidelines for a psycho-educational programme to enhance self-actualisation of retired peopleKerr, Pamela Pearl 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of this research is to develop guidelines for a psycho-educational programme to enhance the self-actualisation of retired people. To do this, an investigation was undertaken to determine how to enhance self-actualisation during retirement, through an understanding of the:
• phenomenon of retirement;
• concept of self-actualisation;
• challenges that hamper adjustment and self-actualisation during retirement;
• factors which assist retirees in overcoming challenges and achieving self-actualisation; and
• the role of psycho-educational programmes in enhancing self-actualisation during retirement.
The literature study sought to promote such an understanding through the investigation of writings and research findings. The qualitative investigation attempted to provide a contextual understanding of the above, through an exploration of the retirement experiences of a selected group of retirees living in George (and surrounding area), South Africa. The findings served as the basis for guidelines for a psycho-educational programme to enhance the self-actualisation of retired people. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed. (Guidance and Counselling)

Venezuela's Medical Revolution: Can the Cuban Medical Model be Applied in Other Countries?Walker, Christopher 03 December 2013 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the Cuban medical adaptation in Venezuela called Misión Barrio Adentro (MBA) and seeks to answer the question of whether MBA shows promise as a health system that improves medical accessibility for impoverished and marginalized populations. In many cases MBA succeeds by: utilizing a free universal health care system; locating health centres in previously underserved areas; providing medical education scholarships to populations from non-traditional backgrounds; creating a catchment system based on medical accessibility; scaling up the medical workforce to 60,000 community doctors by 2019; and broadening the very praxis of what health means in a Latin American social medicine approach. However, some challenges remain including issues of corruption, fragmentation, and polarization. Issues regarding internal and external migration of Misión Sucre-trained physicians remain to be comprehensively evaluated. However, the capacitation of non-traditional medical personnel, imbued with conciencia, is significant and could well become an important example for other countries.
