Density As A Transformative Power Of Urbanization: Milletvekili Lojmanlari / Park Oran Konutlari

Kale, Evrim Ozlem 01 August 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The economic and political restructuring of the 1980s whose main aim was to integrate Turkey to the global economic network via constructing &ldquo / global cities&rdquo / initiated not only new architectural programs such as grand shopping malls, office towers, world trade centers, five-star hotels but also new housing patterns all of which played an important role in shaping the urban character. As a result of these new architectural programs Ankara&rsquo / s urban landscape has been reterritorialized according to the logic of capital. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of the emerging residential programs on Ankara&rsquo / s urban transformation since 2000. Specifically, this research critically concentrates on the process of transformation of a low rise-low density residential area into a high rise-high density residence through construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction of the same site initiating a &ldquo / re-scaled&rdquo / urban landscape. With this respect, this study endeavours to deal with the case of destructing the TBMM Milletvekili Lojmanlari for constructing Park Oran Konutlari.

Traditions Against Women In The Novels Possessing The Secret Of Joy, Bliss, Rich Like Us And Raise The Lanterns High

Kaya, Nimet 01 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Some cultures have customs against women. The sati tradition in India is one of them. According to sati, if the husband dies the woman is set on fire with his corpse. These women are believed to become immortal saints. A woman who dies burning herself on her husband&rsquo / s funeral fire is considered virtuous, and are believed to go to Heaven. Another tradition is &ldquo / female circumcision.&rdquo / It is performed in African countries. People believing in the necessity of this custom circumcise women by cutting their clitoris. Circumcised women cannot have sexually pleasure. These women are there to satisfy men&rsquo / s desires and give birth to babies. The third tradition is the general name of which is t&ouml / re is performed in the eastern parts of Turkey. According to t&ouml / re, women are put on trial by their families and killed if they have any sexual relationships without marriage bond. In other words, even if a woman is raped, she is found guilty because of having a sexual relationship. In this thesis, these issues and how women are degraded in cultures will be discussed by using the works of famous Indian, Black American and Turkish writers. The books that are discussed in this thesis, Nayantara Sahgal&rsquo / s &ldquo / Rich Like Us,&rdquo / Lakshmi Persaud&rsquo / s &ldquo / Raise the Lanterns High,&rdquo / &ldquo / Possessing the Secret of Joy&rdquo / by Alice Walker and &ldquo / Bliss&rdquo / by Z&uuml / lf&uuml / Livaneli all contribute to this study showing how women are oppressed by different customs in different countries, the common point of which is to serve men&rsquo / s interests.

Evaluating The Human Rights Of Stateless People: Reflections Of Arendt, Agamben, And Ranciere

Turkdogan, Elcin 01 September 2011 (has links) (PDF)
As it is widely accepted, human rights are inalienable and equal rights that we have simply because we are human. They are guaranteed to all people regardless of their nationality, race, sex, ethnicity, etc. Moreover, they are rights that their holder cannot lose them temporarily or permanently. Yet, today many millions people around the world are denied to exercise their most basic human rights because they are not citizen of any country. They are stateless people. Although there have been many international human rights mechanisms to protect rights of stateless people, in real life almost all stateless people are still subject to torture, discrimination, xenophobia, racism, difficulty enjoying their social, economic and cultural rights, and arbitrary and indefinite detention. Considering this contradiction, this thesis aims to question the meaning of the existence of stateless people for human rights theory. This issue was firstly studied by Hannah Arendt. Then, her analysis has been developed by many authors in different manners. Two important figures among them are Giorgio Agamben and Jascque Ranci&egrave / re. Thus, this thesis attempts to evaluate the human rights of stateless people in the light of approaches of three authors: Arendt, Agamben, and Ranci&egrave / re. Considering critical power of both of three approaches to human rights in contrast to mainstream theories of human rights, this thesis regards Jascque Ranci&egrave / re&rsquo / s approach as an explanatory approach for human rights of stateless people since it focuses on political power of human rights for even stateless people.

Vernacular Timber Houses Of Uzungol: Examining/analysin Them In Their Refunctioning Process

Cicek, Umit Gokhan 01 February 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study is to define structural and architectural features of vernacular houses in Uzung&ouml / l, town of &Ccedil / aykara, Trabzon and to determine intervention types of houses in order to prevent loosing original architectural characteristics. For this purpose, the studies that were carried out about the history, geographical/physical character, settlement pattern and socio-economic character of the region in general and the district of the study area were surveyed. To be able to take reliable results, a study area, which has a representative character, was defined. All registered houses in the study area were surveyed and building characteristics of Uzung&ouml / l were identified. Beside gathering information, all surveyed buildings was documented in various details as structural scale and architectural scale. In order to examine the intervention character at houses in the district, all applied interventions at houses were documented. At the end of the documentation, specific intervention types were found. Values of the study area were listed and physical/architectural features that decided be preserved were identified.

The correlative research of reduing civil servants, flexible strategy and organization performance Based on the example of the Water Resources Agency the Ministry of Economic Affairs

Wei, Me-fei 30 July 2002 (has links)
In order to maintain strong national competitiveness, the government needs to establish a management model composed of incorruptibility, efficiency, foresight, vitality, flexibility, and emergency capabilities. Having an appropriate management model is the expectation of all democratic states. After publishing the book of ¡§Reinventing Government ¡¨ the ¡§Reinventing Government¡¨ has become a trend. Many countries are making a great effort to reform and enhance the efficiency of government¡¦s function due to people¡¦s requests. An efficient government is a major indicator for national competitiveness, and the function of the government is a typically manpower intensive activity, consequently human resource management of civil servants is the key to an efficient government. Since the 1980s, countries such as those in Europe and the U.S.A have been trying to adopt strategic human resource management practices for improving the quality of civil servants, government efficiency as well as develop national competitiveness while facing the challenge of globalization and the demand of high-quality service. The main direction of government reformation is to strengthen the ¡§Human Resource Management¡¨ that features in empowerment, flexibility and market competitive mechanism, which is different to the traditional ¡§Personnel Management.¡¨ Purposes of the study: 1. To study the status and problem may have caused upon applying human resources. 2. According to the research framework, sampling surveys will be taken, so as to verify the assumption provided in the research. 3. To study the variation of recognition and interaction of civil servants in the research framework and analyze the influence to the achievements in an organization. All sampling surveys were administered to the first till the tenth of the River Basin Management Bureau and three Water Resource Bureaus located in the north, center, and south of Taiwan. Approximately 290 surveys were given on April 16, 2002 and 207 surveys were received on May 10, 2002. Two surveys were invalidated after a one-month survey period and the collection rate of valid surveys was 71.38%. Conclusion: 1. After reforming the organization, the achievements of an organization can be obviously higher, if the recognition of civil servants has higher positive effect and the organization values its staff more than before. Due to the unique biological organization, however the negative effect is still there, yet the achievements of an organization are enhanced and the civil servants still feel it strongly. 2. Proper manpower reduction can improve efficiency for certain organizations with redundant personnel, but it cannot be applied to a temporary manpower reduction. 3. In the present stage, the measure of flexible human resource management can enlarge the efficiency in an organization. On the other hand, the flexibility of subcontract, function, payroll, and operation cannot be seen because of the inflexibility in government system. 4. The measure of flexible human resource management is the strength to apply manpower reduction. However, subcontract merely affects the implementation of manpower reduction.

Hydrogel therapy for re-synostosis based on the developmental and regenerative changes of murine cranial sutures

Hermann, Christopher Douglas 23 May 2012 (has links)
Craniosynostosis is the premature fusion of one or more cranial sutures in the developing skull. If left untreated, craniosynostosis can result in developmental delays, blindness, deafness, and other impairments resulting from an increase in the intracranial pressure. In many cases, the treatment consists of complex calvarial vault reconstruction with the hope of restoring a normal skull appearance and volume. Re-synostosis, the premature re-closure following surgery, occurs in up to 40% children who undergo surgery. If this occurs, a second surgery is needed to remove portions of the fused skull in an attempt to correct the deformities and/or relieve an increase in intracranial pressure. These subsequent surgeries are associated with an incredibly high incidence of life threatening complications. To address this unmet clinical need we have developed strategies to delay the post-operative bone growth in a clinically relevant murine model of re-synostosis. The overall objective of this thesis was to develop a hydrogel based therapy to delay rapid bone regeneration in a murine model of re-synostosis. The overall hypothesis was that delivery of key BMP inhibitors involved in regulating normal suture development and regeneration will delay the rapid bone growth that in seen in a pediatric murine model of re-synostosis. The overall approach is to use micro-computed tomography (µCT) to determine the time course of suture fusion and to identify genes associated with key developmental time points, to develop a pediatric specific mouse model that displays rapid re-synostosis, and lastly to develop a hydrogel based therapy to delay the re-synostosis of this cranial defect.

Konsultföretags metodanvändande under Requirements Engineering Processen

Swärd, Michael January 2001 (has links)

Re-authentication of Critical Operations / Återautentisering av Kritiska Operationer

Yachouh, Marwan January 2002 (has links)
<p>This is a study on the development of a re-authentication prototype. Re- authentication serves as a receipt for e.g. system administrators that authorise them to carry out a critical operation in a system that already is protected by a security architecture. A critical operation is a kind of operation that can cause serious damage to a network node or a set of network nodes, if it is done without one giving it a second thought. The purpose is to prevent mistakes and secure the users’ audit trail. </p><p>The main task is to propose and implement a re-authentication prototype, that is to enable the incorporation of the re-authentication prototype to an already complete security architecture and yet preserve the security and performance level of the architecture. </p><p>This thesis deals with this problem by using digitally signed certificates to provide the necessary security issues. The certificates used are called re- authentication certificates and follows the X.509 attribute certificate standard. The re-authentication certificate is optimised so that it only holds authorisation information regarding one critical operation. An access control decision function is used to decide if the re-authentication certificate and its owner are authentic. On basis of that decision the user can get the authority to execute critical operations. </p><p>The finished prototype confirms that a re-authentication can be incorporated with the security architecture. The report also shows that the security status of the architecture is preserved. The performance of the prototype is rather difficult to prove since the prototype implementation only initialises the objects that are required to prove the security issues. A performance test can therefore never prove how the prototype will perform in an authentic environment. The performance is assumed to be adequate since it uses the same authentication function that is used by the security architecture.</p>

Framework for Flexible Connectors with Java Reflection Proxies

Tao, Bo, Jiang, Xiaoming January 2009 (has links)
<p>This report presents the results of a master level thesis project that analyzes and designs about the issue “Framework for Flexible Connectors with Java Reflection Proxies”. In this project, there are two main issues; first one is about finding a way to implement the function of a connector. And the other one is to build a framework for flexible connectors.</p><p>By studying on Java’s dynamic proxy, we find we can use it to implement the function of a connector. When building a connector chain, we use an important Java technique--Java Reflection API.</p>
