The Impact of Online Nutrition Education on WIC Client Retention and Redemption of the Cash Value Benefit of Fruit and Vegetables

Gray, Sara Michelle 06 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / All participants of the Indiana Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infant and Children (WIC) receive supplemental foods, nutrition education, and health care referrals. The Indiana WIC program established an online nutrition education program to help eliminate barriers to participants who are unable to be physically present for their second nutrition education appointments. The aim of this study was to compare the participation of WIC participants enrolled in standard in-person appointments with WIC participants enrolled in the Online Nutrition Education (ONE) pilot program by assessing the completion of the ONE lessons and the cash value benefit usage at 3 months after participants’ acceptance into the WIC program. A quasi-experiment was performed using a time series comparison of WIC participant attendance at their in-person nutrition education appointment to participants completion of an online nutrition education lesson. A second comparison of the two groups observed the participants redemption of their cash value benefit on fruits and vegetables (CVB). The increase in participation from 2019 to 2020 was statistically significant (P=0.035). Analysis showed that there was a significant difference (P ≤ 0.001) between the 2019 and 2020 CVB mean redemption rates. This study provides evidence that WIC participants are more likely to maintain their participation when offered the addition of an online nutrition education appointment type.

The Ascension of Jesus Christ: Its Role in Redemption from a Latter-day Saint Theological Perspective

Perez, William 01 December 2019 (has links)
Mosiah 18:2 lists the ascension of Jesus Christ as one of the atoning acts that brings about redemption. Although many faith traditions have developed a theology about the significance of the ascension, the topic has not been covered at length within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This thesis explores the ascension of Jesus Christ and its implications for humanity from the perspective of Latter-day Saint beliefs. The ascension of Jesus Christ can be considered the culmination, even the capstone of His atonement. There are sufficient sources within Latter-day Saint canon and the teachings of general authorities to support a theology of redemption through ascension and to expound on the implications of this final salvific act for humanity. This thesis serves as a prolegomenon for further insightful study and discussion.

Possible barriers to Mississippi's Farmers' Market Nutrition Program redemption

Murphree, Mildred Elizabeth 09 August 2019 (has links)
Trending ahead to the year 2050, concerns continue to rise regarding feeding a world population of nearly 10 billion people (Smith, Tarawali, Grace, & Sones, 2013). The United States provides many federal programs to feed the hungry (Talk Poverty, 2018). Despite these provisions, barriers exist and prevent access to healthy foods (Innis, 2014). Residents in the state of Mississippi are posed with the challenge of accessing nutrient rich foods (Gunderson et al., 2018). In an effort to combat hunger in Mississippi, Mississippi WIC and MDAC have partnered to bridge farmers with low-income residents with the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (“Mississippi Farmers' Market Nutrition,” 2018). Barriers to access – like transportation, location, and market hours – may have an impact on redemtption rates (Conrey, Frongillo, Dollahite, & Griffin, 2003). This descriptive, correlational study used five independent variables to see if these had an impact on FMNP voucher redemption rates.

This dissertation analyzes videogames from their narrative potential. The popularity of videogame consoles and the spread of personal computers and the Internet over the past two decades have facilitated the access to these technological products, also causing the academic interest in such games to increase. Much of the literature on the subject revolves around the debate “Narratology versus Ludology”, where theorists of opposing sides believe that electronic games can be understood either by their ludic aspects, directly related to the action of the player (gameplay), or only by its narrative characteristics. Throughout this thesis, we present the thoughts of the main Ludologists (Jesper Juul, Gonzalo Frasca, Espen Aarseth) and the Narratologists, of which Janet Murray is the principal exponent. Our goal in describing the two theories is to demonstrate the need to incorporate them both in order to achieve a broader understanding of electronic games, unlike the opposition between the two theoretical approaches proposes. Hence, our hypothesis is that it is only taking into account both gameplay and the narrative potential of videogames that one can analyze these games in which Marie-Laure Ryan, Santaella and Galloway consider its most distinctive feature: interactivity. To do so, we use Ryan’s concept of "interactive narratives" (2009), which proposes that the narrative in video games is directly related to gameplay, as each narrative element is constructed from actions taken by the player and materialized inside the game through an avatar, and, moreover, every action taken is determined by the narrative plot that is designed. As a consequence, ludic and narrative elements are inextricable to the understanding of electronic games in their full potential. As an example of this trend, we will analyze the game "Red Dead Redemption" for Xbox 360, created by Rockstar Games, which we believe aggregates all the characteristics of Ryan’s "interactive narratives".

Animal suffering in an unfallen world : a theodicy of non-human evolution

Sollereder, Bethany Noël January 2014 (has links)
The publication of The Origin of Species in 1859 raised a host of theological issues. Chief amongst them is the question of how a good, loving, and powerful God could create through an evolutionary process that involved so much suffering, pain, and violence. The traditional Christian answers for suffering in the natural world are not plausible in an evolutionary world. We cannot blame natural evil on human sin, since earth history shows that non-human suffering long preceded humans. Nor can we say that God allows suffering because it allows opportunity for moral choice, spiritual closeness with God, and the development of virtue, as none of these apply to the non-human realm. A new approach is needed to address the question of suffering and violence amongst non-human animals. In this dissertation, I address the question of evolutionary suffering with a multi-disciplinary approach of biblical studies, philosophical theology, and systematic theology to build a compound theodicy. After a survey of the various scholarly contributions in this area, I begin with biblical considerations of the God-world relationship. I set aside, based on exegetical examinations of Genesis 1-9, notions of “fallenness” in the natural world. I therefore argue that evolution was God’s intended process of creation, and that we should not attribute it to any kind of corruption. The rest of the dissertation engages in the development of a compound theodicy rooted in a philosophical and theological definition of love. How does a God who loves creatures respond to their suffering? I argue that God’s action in creation is characterised by kenotic restraint, the giving of freedom, co-suffering with creatures, and the work of redemption.

Pokání a vykoupení v románu Zločin a trest na pozadí biblických textů / Atonement and redemption in the novel Crime and Punishment with reference to Biblical texts

Kuthan, Robert January 2013 (has links)
Annotation: This thesis is an attempt for a religous interpretation of Dostoeyevsky's novel Crime and Punishment. The thesis attempts to interpret the novel from the perspective of redemption and atonement. It is not our aim to focus on seperate aspects of the novel. Rather, we wish to provide a complete interpretation of the novel through the religious theme of redemption. By means of Bachtin's method of 'grotesque realism' we observe the development of religous themes in the novel from the perspective of their carnivalisation. We observe the development of the resurrection theme in the novel and find this theme supported by various forms of symbolism of life and death in the novel. This thesis considers Lazarus's story in John 11 as central to the meaning of the novel and focuses on literary elaboration of this evangelical text within the novel.

Od padlého anděla k blonďaté bestii: postavy prostitutek v Balzakově Lesku a bídě kurtizán a Zolově Naně / From fallen angel to blonde beast: characters of prostitutes in Balzac's The Splendors and Miseries of Courtesans and Zola's Nana

Fousová, Tereza January 2014 (has links)
Subject to this degree work is the character of prostitutes in French society in the 19th century reflected in eight selected works of French authors of the time. In the first part of my thesis the history of prostitution from "religious prostitution" in ancient Greece to its "golden age" in France in the 19th century is described. The decay of moral principles in the post-Revolutionary period (as a result of religious and social taboos collapse) causes a great spread of prostitution and venereal diseases. Because of these reasons it was necessary to take the legalizing and organizing precautions - the French System. The second part of this work takes addresses the different (romantic and naturalistic) representations of the character of the prostitute in the literature of the 19th century. The representative of the romantic interpretation of the courtesan who is driven to sin due to poverty (the myth of the "fallen angel" redeemed by pure love) is Honoré de Balzac and his novel "The Splendors and Miseries of Courtesans". The opposite pole to the romantic interpretation of prostitutes is a naturalistic beast which chooses the oldest profession herself as a means of executing social revenge. In this second, analytical, part of this work the comparison of both of these kinds is made. Key words:...

[en] THEOLOGY AND FANTASTIC LITERATURE: THE REDEMPTION IN THE COSMIC TRILOGY C. S. LEWIS / [pt] TEOLOGIA E LITERATURA FANTÁSTICA: A REDENÇÃO NA TRILOGIA CÓSMICA DE C. S. LEWIS

MARCIO SIMAO DE VASCONCELLOS 15 April 2015 (has links)
[en] Theology and Fantastic Literature: the redemption in the Cosmic Trilogy C. S. Lewis investigates the relationship between Theology and Literature, highlighting the importance of overcoming reductionist rationalism, whether in practical theology, whether in daily life. It also discusses the concept of christian redemption, analyzing how this theme is presented in fantastic literature, especially the way it is portrayed in the Cosmic Trilogy by Irish writer C. S. Lewis. From these points, it is proposed the fantastic literature as a potential space for theological practice.
