Registered nurses' perception regarding the bureaucratic view of power in health care services in the Tshwane metropolitan regionMoji, Vindi Sarah 30 September 2006 (has links)
This study investigated the registered nurses' perceptions of the bureaucratic view of power in health care services in the Tshwane metropolitan region. The study further sought to describe how power affects the role of registered nurses in an organisation that is perceived to be predominantly bureaucratic in its' approach to management.
A quantitative descriptive exploratory approach was adopted. Data was drawn from 121 respondents by random distribution of questionnaires to three selected health care services in the Tshwane metropolitan region. The findings revealed that registered nurses were largely divided in their perception of the bureaucratic view of power in health care services. Almost half of the respondents indicated that great strides had been taken by organisations in transforming health care services in accordance with the White Paper (1997) on Transformation of the Health System in South Africa and the recommendations of the 2001 Health Summit. The others indicated that registered nurses still needed to break out of the restraints of their dependant role towards taking ownership of health care services by equally bearing the burden of the organisation with management. / Health Studies / M.A.(Health Studies)

Motivation, job satisfaction and attitudes of nurses in the public health services of BotswanaHwara, Albert Hillary 06 1900 (has links)
The aim of the study was to investigate motivation, job satisfaction and attitudes of
nurses in the public health services of Botswana. The objective was to discover how
nurses felt about a wide range of variables in their work environment and ultimately
to distil them into what they conceived as the mainstay motivators, job satisfiers and
positive attitudes. The non pariel (unrivalled, unique) role of the government in creating both the hardware and the software of national health services was
acknowledged and recognised with a particular reference to the primacy it placed on developing the human resources in the form of nurses, in order to realize the goals of administering the public health services efficiently and effectively. It was noted that
nurses were the change agents and the axis in promoting quality standards of healthcare but in partnership with the government, which must be seen to be
responsive and proactive in discharging its fiduciary responsibilities, in respect of
both the content and the context of nurses’ occupational ambience. For the purposes of constructing a database from which both the government and the nurses
can draw, the most salient thematic details of the theories of motivation, job
satisfaction and attitudes were studied and examined and were used as a scaffolding for the empirical survey of nurses. Nine hundred questionnaires were distributed to both registered and enrolled nurses
with a minimum of two years work experience in the public health sector and 702 of these were returned constituting a return rate of 78%. The findings indicated that a majority of nurses enjoyed job satisfaction in certain areas of their work namely
autonomy, participating in decision-making, choice of type of nursing, change of wards or departments or work units, interpersonal relationships amongst nurses themselves and between nurses and their supervisors. Nurses also perceived the hospital as an environment in which they could continually learn and they were moreover satisfied with the nursing job or the work itself. The other end of the spectrum revealed an overwhelming majority of 92.2% of nurses
who were dissatisfied with the level of pay and 88.5% who were not happy with the fringe benefits including the provision of accommodation. Working conditions were viewed as generally disliked by 67.3% of the nurses. Low pay, workload, lack of viii
recognition for outstanding performance and or delayed promotional chances were
singled out as being particularly disliked by 67.2%, 64.9%, 42.6% and 44.4% of the nurses respectively. Interviews held with 31 nurses yielded similar results.
The research further showed that the most important motivators to nurses were dominated by competitive salary which was mentioned by 80.9% of the respondents, attractive or sufficient working conditions which were stated by 71.2% of the nurses, opportunity for continuous education which was rated by 63.8% of the nursing candidates, reduced workload which was claimed by 59.3% of the nursing cadres,
opportunity for the recognition of outstanding performance and opportunity for promotion which were scored by 54.1% and 53.4% of the nurse respectively. Job
satisfiers were also represented by competitive salary which received 76.1% of the nurses’ votes. Risk allowance occupied the second position with 69.1% and
competitive working conditions were awarded a third ranking by 68.2% of the nurses. Those nurses who derived job satisfaction from the fact of each nursing shift being manned by an adequate number of nurses accounted for 63.1% of the sample. Competitive fringe benefits attracted 60.1% of the nurses. Opportunity to attend
workshops and the need for high morale in nursing team-work were chosen as job satisfiers by 53.7% and 49.6% of the nurses respectively. In the section on recommendations the government was exhorted to invoke corrective or remedial measures in view of the detailed exegesis of the satisfactions and dissatisfactions in the nurses’ work environment and the ensuing problematique
(doubtful, questionable) of raising the standards of health care in the public health
services. Living up to these sanguine expectations should be the cherished longterm vision of the government if it is to meet and quench the soaring aspirations of its modernizing society for quality health care delivery and the escalating needs of the

The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the perceptions of registered
nurses about patient-friendly health services rendered within an ambulatory care setting
in the King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh (KAMC-R), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A
qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual design was used. Fifteen registered
nurses (one male and 14 female) voluntarily participated in this study. The data
collection process comprised of semi-structured individual interviews with the
participants to explore what they perceived to be patient-friendly health services. The
obtained data were analysed using Van Mannen’s thematic analysis method. The
emerging empirical data identified four themes, three categories and nine subcategories;
a literature control was incorporated to validate the findings. The study
findings revealed that the participants identified cultural differences as a quintessential
obstacle in rendering patient-friendly health services in the study context. Professional
yet patient-friendly communication proved to be a challenge as did ambulatory care
flow. This had the potential to compromise patient-friendly health services. Meeting the
patients’ needs was acknowledged. However, the needs, goals and values of patientfriendly
healthcare services were perceived differently by the patients on the one hand
and the registered nurses on the other and this affected the process of interaction and
delivery of patient-friendly care. Despite the fact that the registered nurses daily
experienced ongoing challenges which compromised patient-friendly health services,
they were aware and committed to deliver patient-friendly health services. The process
of scientific inquiry concluded with the limitations of the study and recommendations

The perceptions of health care professionals with regard to the use of authority by health service managers in Pietersburg HospitalMaake, Makgotlo Thalitha 11 1900 (has links)
Text in English / The purpose of the study was to explore the registered nurse’s perceptions with regard to the use of authority by nurse managers in the workplace. A qualitative approach using phenomenological descriptive design was used. Data was collected by means of audio-taped individual interviews and field notes. The sample included registered nurses aged 25-45 years with more than two years’ experience. Ethical issues were adhered to.
The data was analysed using content analysis as proposed by Creswell (2013). Five themes and seventeen subthemes emerged from the data. The findings revealed that the registered nurses were unhappy with the way authority is being used, their non-involvement in decision-making; lack of two way communication between nurses and managers; poor relationship between nurses and health service managers which hindered nurses’ opportunity for growth. Ce mémoire porte sur la relation entre les inégalités socioéconomiques et la migration des Indiens inscrits du Québec en 2006. Nous évaluons la contribution des inégalités sociales et scolaires, des inégalités économiques, des inégalités régionales et des inégalités juridiques et politiques à la migration des Indiens inscrits et la contribution de la migration à l’atteinte d’un revenu supérieur. Les résultats obtenus auprès des Autochtones sont comparés à ceux des non-Autochtones de façon à pouvoir distinguer ce qui et spécifique aux Autochtones. Des régressions logistiques ont été effectuées afin d’observer la contribution des caractéristiques individuelles et collectives sur la migration non-récente - entre 2001 et 2005, sur l’atteinte d’un revenu supérieur au 75e centile en 2005 et sur la migration récente - entre 2005 et 2006. Les résultats de la présente recherche montrent que le sexe, l’âge et les variables de migration expliquent très peu le fait de bénéficier d’un revenu supérieur. Obtenir minimalement un diplôme d’études secondaire et d’avoir un travail à temps plein augmente considérablement les chances. Chez les Indiens inscrits, la nation d’appartenance et la zone de résidence expliquent beaucoup plus la variance expliquée. Qui plus est, la contribution de l’âge et du sexe explique très peu le fait d’avoir migré - récemment ou non récemment. Par conséquent, la scolarité, l’occupation expliquent beaucoup le fait que les Indiens inscrits et que les non-Autochtones migrent. Les nations d’appartenance ainsi que les zones de résidence expliquent beaucoup le fait que les Indiens inscrits migrent. / This research shows the relationship between socioeconomics inequalities and migration of the Registered Indians in Quebec in 2006. We evaluate the contribution of social and educational inequalities, economic inequalities, regional inequalities and legal and political inequalities as the contribution of migration to achieve a higher income. The results obtains for the Registered Indians are compared to non-Aboriginals to see the specific situation of the Registered Indians. Logistic regressions are performed to evaluate the contribution of the individual and collective characteristics on non-recent and recent migration and on a 75e percentile income. The results show that sex, age and migration play a very little part in obtaining a higher income. Having minimally a high school diploma or having a full-time job greatly increase the chances. For Registered Indians, nation of belonging and residence area explain more of the variance in income. Furthermore, sex and age explain a very little part of migration recently or less recent. Migration, years of schooling and occupation explain a greater part of the migration of the Registered Indians and non-Aboriginals. Nation of belonging and residence area explains also more of the explained variance of migration.

The objective of the thesis is an analysis, description and subsequent comparison of different aspects in relationships between the founders and the headmasters of primary schools, and subsequently a presentation of possible differences and similarities in these relationships in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia, in both legal and non-legal framework; and a description of the real situation of these relationships more than 20 years after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The starting point for the research are relevant legal regulations, such as acts of parliament, delegated legislation and specific legal and other documents concerning founders of private and denominational schools. The Czech and Slovak educational systems had the same development since the foundation of Czechoslovakia in 1918. After the dissolution of Czechoslovak federation the development and changes in Czech and Slovak educational systems had a different, separate development. The relationship between the school founder and its headmaster has significant influence on the school activities and direction. The thesis describes similarities and differences in these relationships in both countries and points out possibilities for mutual inspirations.

Hepatitis B prevention and control : knowledge, attitudes and vaccination status of registered nurses at Nyangabgwe hospital in Francistown, BotswanaKapungumberi, Leighton Taurai 11 1900 (has links)
The study investigated knowledge, attitudes and vaccination status of registered nurses regarding prevention and control of hepatitis B (HB). An analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted, and data was collected using self-administered questionnaires. 53.0% of the respondents (n=219) had good knowledge and 96.3% had positive attitudes regarding HB prevention and control. 86.8% had received at least 1 dose of the HB vaccine, but only 54.7% had received the 3 doses for complete vaccination. A positive attitude score was a significant predictor of HB vaccination uptake (OR=1.424, p=0.003). Female registered nurses were 3.479 times (95% CI: 1.495-8.098; p=0.004) more likely to be vaccinated than male registered nurses. Registered nurses are aware that hepatitis B virus infection can be prevented by a safe and effective vaccine, however, there is need to improve awareness and encourage complete HB vaccination uptake among all registered nurses to ensure their protection against the risk of HBV infection. / Health Studies / M. This diploma thesis shows regional branding, especially regional brands associated in the Association of Regional Brands (ARZ), which is given to products. The marked products guarantee their extraordinary quality, tradition, specificity, proportion of manual work and respect for the environment. The author chose one of all brands in ARZ - i. e. Kraj blanických rytířů - regionální produkt(registered mark). In the theoretical part, there are issue of regional branding and key words connected with regional branding explained. The practical part deals with marketing research, in particular a qualitative and a quantitative method such as structured interviews and questionnaire survey. These methods will assure conduct of research essential for the objectives of the thesis. As for the main aim of the thesis, it is to find out consumers´ brand awareness and their attitude to the regional brand Kraj blanických rytířů - regionální produkt(registered mark). Findings of producers´ views on current system of the regional branding and regional co-ordinator´s activities are other aims of the thesis. This part also contains all results of the research including an assessment of established hypotheses. In conclusion, the proposals to the improvement of consumers´ brand awareness come.
