Resenhas acadêmicas: caracterização do gênero nas áreas de Linguística, Literatura e História, à luz da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional

In Brazil, researches have focused on academic papers. Therefore, in order to contribute to the researchers developed in Brazil, the objective of this study is to identify the uses of verbal and mental processes in reviews published in the areas of Linguistics, Literature and History, analyse the patterns of realization of these processes in order to better understand how the reviewer conveys his description/evaluation of a certain book, and the role of modal adjuncts in meaning making. Systemics Functional Linguistics is the main theoretical and methodological framework (Halliday, 1985, 1994; Halliday & Matthiessen, 1999, 2004), which focus is language in use in different contexts. The software WordSmith Tools 5.0 allowed 45 reviews of Linguistics, 47 reviews of Literature and 46 reviews of History, all of them available electronically and qualified as Qualis A1 and A2 to be processed so that data were organized for analysis. Based on the transitivity system through which the ideational metafunction is accessed, the most frequent verbal and mental processes in the reviews from the three different areas were selected and their similarities and differences were compared. It was observed that the uses of verbal and mental processes in the reviews from the three areas mentioned are, most of the time, associated to a higher engagement of the reviewer who prioritizes a more elaborated use of the language, making use of verbiage which construes the content of what is said and reduces the clause. As far as choices of Sayers and Sensers are concerned, there is evidence of high interaction with the reader. Concerning the interpersonal metafunction, modal adjuncts of polarity, intensity and temporality were identified in the corpora. They accompany verbal and mental processes and highlight the engagement of the reviewer with his text when negotiating with the reader. This research is expected to contribute to the studies about the genre review written in Portuguese, providing background for those who intend to produce this genre in the areas hereby mentioned / Esta pesquisa está inserida no contexto do projeto SAL- Systemis Across Languagesdesenvolvido em parceria com pesquisadores da China, Argentina, México e Tailândia que analisam a linguagem em uso partindo de tipos específicos de textos buscando constantes e variáveis. No Brasil, as pesquisas se voltam para textos acadêmicos. Assim, buscando contribuir com essas pesquisas, esta dissertação tem como objetivo identificar os usos dos processos verbais e mentais utilizados em resenhas das áreas de Linguística, Literatura e História e analisar os padrões de realização desses processos para compreender como o resenhista expõe sua descrição/avaliação da obra resenhada e como os Adjuntos modais associam-se aos processos nessa construção. Utilizando o arcabouço teórico da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (Halliday, 1985, 1994; Halliday & Matthiessen, 1999, 2004), que tem como foco a língua em uso em diferentes contextos e, com o apoio da ferramenta computacional WordSmith Tools 5.0, organizei os dados constantes de 45 resenhas de Linguística, 47 de Literatura e 46 de História, publicadas em periódicos disponibilizados eletronicamente, qualificados como qualis A1 e A2. Com base no sistema de transitividade da metafunção ideacional, selecionei os processos verbais e mentais mais frequentes nas três áreas e comparei as semelhanças e diferenças entre elas. Observei que os usos dos processos verbais e mentais, nas três áreas, em sua maioria estão associados ao maior envolvimento do resenhista priorizando a linguagem mais elaborada constituída pelo uso da verbiagem de conteúdo em que há sintetização da oração. Ao que se refere às escolhas dos Dizentes e Experienciadores há indícios de maior interação com o leitor. Baseada na metafunção interpessoal, levantei os adjuntos modais presentes nos corpora e verifiquei que os modais de polaridade, intensidade e temporalidade são os que estão mais associados aos processos verbais e mentais e contribuem para ressaltar o maior envolvimento do resenhista com o texto na negociação com o leitor. Espero que esta pesquisa contribua com os estudos sobre o gênero resenha em língua portuguesa auxiliando pesquisadores que pretendam desenvolver esse gênero nas áreas aqui pesquisadas

<p>U radu je istraženo kako čitaoci prihvataju savete na blogovima. U<br />radu je integrisan model prihvatanja tehnologije (eng. Technology<br />Acceptance Model) sa dualnim procesnim modelima informacionog<br />uticaja, a u cilju dobijanja teorijskog modela za prihvatanje saveta. U<br />modelu je istaknut značaj korisnosti i kredibilnosti saveta kao<br />medijatora u procesu prihvatanja saveta.<br />Dualni procesni modeli su u radu primenjeni u cilju otkrivanja<br />faktora koji doprinose korisnosti informacija, u različitom<br />postupku obrade tih informacija. Istraživanje je sprovedeno na<br />SAAS platformi Beeshaper. Primenjena je mešovita metoda<br />istraživanja. Prvo je sproveden intervju na uzorku od 25 blogera od<br />uticaja. Nakon toga je sprovedeno kvantitativno istraživanje sa 356<br />korisnika koji dobijaju savete na blogovima. Istraživanjem je potvrđen<br />predloženi model.<br />Komunikacija na internetu sve više dobija na značaju u poslednjim<br />godinama. Rezultati istraživanja predlažu model za razumevanje<br />transfera znanja na platformi bloga, kroz računarski podržanu<br />komunikaciju.</p> / <p>The paper explores the way readers accept advice on blogs. The paper<br />integrates the Technology Acceptance Model with dual process information<br />model, in order to obtain a theoretical model for advice adoption. The model<br />emphasizes the importance of the usefulness and credibility of eWOM as the<br />mediators in the process of advice adoption.<br />Dual process models are applied in the paper to identify the factors that<br />contribute the usefulness of information, in a different process of elaboration<br />of these information. The research was conducted on the SAAS platform<br />Beashaper. A mixed method of research was conducted. The first part of the<br />reseach was an interview with the sample of 25 influencers. After qualitative<br />part of the study, a quantitative survey was conducted on the sample of 356<br />users who adopted blog advice. The study confirmed the proposed model.<br />Communication on the Internet is gaining significance in the recent years.<br />This research suggest a model for understanding knowledge transfer on the<br />blog platform, through computer-based communication.</p>

Determinants of merger review decisions: an assessment of the Brazilian antitrust authority\'s capabilities and the influential role of antitrust commissioners / Determinantes de decisões sobre atos de concentração: uma avaliação das capacidades da autoridade antitruste brasileira e a influência dos conselheiros

Merger reviews are institutionalized and customized analyses of mergers and acquisitions by antitrust authorities which result in approvals or disapprovals of the strategic intents of firms. In view of the wide variety of agents whose lives may be changed by a merger review, the fact that different stakeholders might induce a government intervention on a particular deal, and the central role of antitrust commissioners in this context, the general aim of this thesis is to examine the determinants of merger review decisions, but particularly those related to commissioners\' personal attributes, values and interests. Additionally, some structural and procedural issues contained in the antitrust regulatory sphere as well as control variables related to other perspectives of analysis are included as part of this empirical analysis. To achieve the mentioned general objective and other specific goals, a unique dataset was built that covers a fourteen-year period of competition regulation in Brazil. The sample of this study comprises 30,543 votes by 36 different panel members on 5,091 transactions examined through ordered probit models. This thesis, mainly, reveals that \'political ideology\', \'prior work experience in the public service\' and \'human capital\' of antitrust commissioners, in addition to the size of commissions\' voting panels, affect consistently merger review verdicts. In short, under the PSDB presidential administration, for example, transactions were less challenged in Brazil. Regarding the \'public service experience\', commissioners who have predominant prior job or professional association in Education, Health and Social areas, inversely to \'political ideology\', increase the likelihood of high levels of intervention in private deals. Additionally, commissioners\' accumulated skills and knowledge - the \'human capital\' - also affect positively law enforcement on merger reviews. The implications of this particular contribution to public administration follow the same path of \'public service experience\': if societies do not pressure politicians to improve public service, considering not only a remarkable knowledge in Law or Economics to appoint a commissioner, but having a broader view of individuals\' motivations and claims, interferences between \'concepts, principles and norms\' stated in laws, and law enforcement will continuously occur. The last consistent result shows that the likelihood of the Brazilian authority to impose significant changes to firms decreases the greater the voting panel. Thus, this thesis suggests to antitrust policymakers that wide ranges of minimum and maximum quorum in voting panels must be avoided. To the best knowledge of this thesis author, there is not any past research that found such results. It means a unique contribution to the antitrust and management literatures. / Atos de concentração são processos de análise institucionalizados e customizados de fusões e aquisições, realizados por autoridades antitrustes, que resultam na aprovação ou bloqueio dos intentos estratégicos das firmas. Em vista da grande variadade de agentes cujas vidas podem ser afetadas pelos atos de concentração, do fato de que diferentes agentes podem induzir uma intervenção do governo em uma transação específica e o papel central dos conselheiros antitruste neste contexto, o objetivo geral desta tese é examinar os determinantes das decisões de uma autoridade antitruste sobre atos de concentração, mas particularmente os determinantes relacionados aos atributos pessoais, valores e interesses dos conselheiros. Adicionalmente, alguns fatores contidos na esfera regulatória antitruste são considerados nesta análise empírica. Para que o objetivo geral mencionado e outros específicos sejam alcançados, um banco de dados único foi construído e cobre um período de catorze anos de regulacão no Brasil. A amostra deste estudo, então, contém 30,543 votos de 36 diferentes membros do CADE sobre 5,091 transações. Modelos probit ordenados são usados para a análise dos dados. Esta tese, principalmente, revela que \'ideologia política\', \'experiencia prévia de trabalho no setor público\' e \'capital humano\' dos conselheiros antitruste, somando-se ao tamanho do plenário votante, afetam consistentemente os veriditos de atos de concentração. Em resumo, sob a administração federal do PSDB, por exemplo, as transações foram menos alteradas no Brasil. Quanto à experiencia no serviço público, os conselheiros que tiveram atuação profissional predominante nas áreas de Educação, Saúde e Assistencia Social, inversamente à \'ideologia polítical, aumentam a probabilidade de altos níveis de intervenção estatal em acordos privados. Adicionalmente, habilidades e conhecimento acumulados dos conselheiros, o chamado \'capital humano\', também afetam positivamente o nível de emprego da lei em atos de concentração. As implicações destes achados para a administração pública seguem um mesmo caminho: se a sociedade não pressionar os politicos a aperfeiçoarem o serviço público, considerando-se não somente o notável saber jurídico ou econômico para a nomeação de um conselheiro, mas tendo uma visão mais ampla das motivações e pretensões dos indivíduos, interferências continuarão a existir entre \'conceitos, principios e normas\' anunciados pela lei e a lei aplicada. Por fim, como último resultado consistente, a probabilidade de que a autoridade antitruste Brasileira imponha mudanças significativas às firmas decresce à medida que os conselheiros habilitados para votar são mais numerosos. Portanto, esta tese sugere aos formuladores de políticas que sejam evitados intervalos largos entre o mínimo e o máximo de votantes.

The objectives of this study are to determine the awareness level of knowledge sharing amongst the employees of Sasol, to determine how Sasol utilises human capital in the company and to identify and analyse the methods of knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer. The literature review distinguishes between explicit and tacit knowledge. Explicit knowledge leads a company to codify while tacit knowledge leads to connecting people. The literature study also covers the utilisation of human capital and identifies methods of knowledge sharing and -transfer, namely legacy pages, expert location systems, buddy systems, post-retirement agreements, identification of successors, After Action Reviews, interviews, observation, protocol analysis, teach backs, story writing and storytelling, and process mapping. The literature study forms the foundation for the formulation and designing of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed amongst the employees of two of Sasol's divisions in order to obtain data about the utilisation of human capital in Sasol and to identify and analyse the current and preferred methods to capture and share tacit knowledge and skills. The data obtained from the questionnaires was processed, analysed and interpreted. Conclusions were drawn, linking the literature review and the results obtained from the empirical study. A maior parte dos textos críticos encontra-se publicada em jornais. Primeiramente, esses textos foram localizados e organizados. Depois disso, visando à avaliação da recepção crítica, foram resenhados e analisados. Ao término desta pesquisa constatou-se que a obra de José Geraldo Vieira tem sido vítima de muitos clichês e comentários que se repetem. Apesar disso, a crítica, no geral, apresenta argumentos positivos suficientes para realçar o valor de José Geraldo Vieira no panorama da literatura brasileira. / The aim of this work is compounding an organized table of critical texts about the writer José Geraldo Vieira (1897-1977), with the proposal to offer the researcher appropriate material for a more rigorous and comprising analysis of his literary production. The major part of the critical texts is found published at newspaper. At first, these texts were localized and organized. After that, viewing an evaluation of the reviewer's reception about the works by José Geraldo Vieira, they were summarized and analyzed. The analysis shows that, although sometimes the works of José Geraldo Vieira have been a victim of a random appreciations and repeated comments, they were, in general, well accepted by the reviewers. Thus, these reasons are strong enough to underline the value of his work at Brazilian Literature outline.

An evaluation of a performance management system in a freight rail organisation

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the existing performance management system (PMS) in enhancing performance at this freight rail organisation (FRO). The focus of this study was to establish whether the performance management processes are effective in enhancing the individual performance level in this FRO. The performance management processes referred to in this study include conceptualising and exploring; performance management and its processes, the balanced scorecard (BSC) as a tool of performance management and explaining the relationship between performance management and a reward system within the FRO. A qualitative research design was used for this study to answer the research question. The research design consisted of a case study where thirty semi structured interviews were conducted with the first line managers, junior managers, middle managers and senior managers at this FRO. The interviews were transcribed, and research data was analysed using a content analysis method. This study yielded a number of benefits in terms of the research findings, conclusions and recommendations about the effectiveness of performance management processes, the BS and the relationship between individual performance and reward. As a result, the study will not only benefit management in dealing with a strategy and drive individual performance, but will also assist all levels of employees within the FRO and other organisations in understanding the day-to-day operational activities of performance management. It will also help human capital professionals, industrial psychologists at the FRO and other organisations in knowing and understanding the best practices to adopt, in managing their individual performance levels. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Todavia, o excesso de opções no mercado pode confundir e sobrecarregar o consumidor que deseja adquirir um novo produto. Neste contexto, a comunicação boca a boca online surge como uma forma de superar a assimetria de informação ao descrever os atributos do produto em termos de situações de uso, mensurando sua qualidade sob o ponto de vista do usuário, diminuindo o risco do consumidor. Assim, esta tese tem como objetivo geral analisar empiricamente um modelo téorico, baseado na Teoria do Comportamento Planejado, que relacione a atitude em relação à marca, a confiança na marca, o controle comportamental percebido, a norma subjetiva e intenção de compra de um produto eletrônico, em contextos em que os consumidores se deparam com comentários online positivos e negativos. A influência deste tipo de comunicação boca a boca na intenção de compra, em contextos de baixo e alto envolvimento, também foi verificada. O método de pesquisa adotado foi o experimental, sendo o delineamento estudo de grupo de controle pré-teste/pós-teste, com esquema fatorial 2 x 3. A amostra final válida foi de 690 alunos de IES de Salvador/BA. A abordagem de pesquisa foi quantitativa e foram utilizados métodos da estatística descritiva, análise fatorial, teste t e modelagem de equações struturais para a análise dos dados. Os resultaram comprovaram que os comentários online influenciam a intenção de compra, sendo que o maior efeito foi verificado em relação as informações positivas. Os indivíduos com baixo envolvimento foram mais influenciados pelos comentáriosonline positivos, enquanto que os com alto envolvimento foram mais impactados pelos comentários online negativos. Em relação ao modelo teórico, foi incluído um construto de segunda ordem, denominado fatores motivacionais da intenção de compra, responsável pela maior variação na intenção de compra em todos os modelos analisados. Os fatores de ordem pessoal – confiança na marca e atitude em relação à marca – foram os que apresentaram maior impacto na formação do construto de segunda ordem e também os que, de forma indireta, explicaram a maior variação na intenção de compra em todos os modelos analisados. De uma forma geral, os resultados apontam para a necessidade de as empresas investirem em marcas fortes e confiáveis, dedicando maior atenção às estratégias de comunicação e à manutenção de relacionamentos de longo prazo com seus clientes. Não obstante, ressalta-se que os comentários online não devem ser negligenciados. In an extremely competitive environment, many companies launch new products in a systematic way in order to get a differential to its competitors. However, the excess of options in the market can confuse and overwhelm consumers who wish to purchase a new product. In this context,electronic word-of-mouth appears as a way to overcome information asymmetry in describing the attributes of the product in terms of situations, measuring its quality from the user's point of view, reducing the consumer's risk. Thus, this thesis has the general objective to empirically analyze a theoretical model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, which relates the attitude toward the brand, trust in the brand, perceived behavioral control, subjective norm and purchase intent of an electronics products, in contexts where consumers are faced with positive and negative online consumers reviews. The influence of this type of word-of-mouth communication in purchase intent, contexts of below and high involvement, was also checked. The research method adopted was the experimental, and the study design pretest control group before-test/post-test with factorial 2 x 3. The valid final sample was of 690 students from Universities at Salvador/BA. The research approach was quantitative and were used methods of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test and structural equation modeling to analyze the data. The result proved that the online consumers reviews influence purchase intent, with the greatest effect it was checked against the positive information. Individuals with low involvement were more influenced by the positive online consumers reviews, while with high involvement were most impacted by the negative online consumers reviews. Regarding the theoretical model, it was included a second-order construct, called motivational factors of intent to purchase, accounted for most variation in purchase intent in all the analyzed models. The factors of personal order - trust in the brand and attitude toward the brand - presented the main contribution to the second-order construct and also those who, indirectly, explained most variation in purchase intent for all models analyzed. In general, the results point to the need for companies to invest in strong and trusted brands, devoting more attention to communication strategies and maintaining long-term relationships with their customers. However, the online consumers reviews should not be overlooked.

Marknadsföring idag ser inte ut som den har gjort tidigare, digitaliseringen har medfört en stor förändring och många nya möjligheter för företag och privatpersoner att marknadsföra sig. Word-of-mouth har gått från att vara mellan två eller flera personer i en konversation där exempelvis en produkt eller tjänst diskuterats. Detta har också förändrats och flera olika typer av online word-of-mouth (eWOM) har tillkommit, denna studie kommer behandla två typer av eWOM som finns, mer exakt influencers och recensioner online. Undersökningen kommer gå in på det förtroende som konsumenter har för just influencers och recensioner online och även undersöka om detta förändras om konsumenten står inför ett hög- eller lågengagemangsköp. Forskningsfrågor ställs även för att få reda på vilka faktorer som spelar in för att förtroendet för influencers och recensioner skall påverkas och om förtroendet förändras om konsumenten ställs inför ett köp av en produkt istället för en tjänst. Undersökningen sker genom en kvalitativ metod där intervjuer hålls med sex respondenter och frågor anknutna till syftet och forskningsfrågorna ställs till dem. Resultatet från dessa intervjuer visar att förtroendet för influencers inte är lika starkt som det förtroende konsumenterna har för recensioner online, däremot förklarar respondenterna att det finns faktorer som kan både öka och minska förtroendet både för recensioner och influencers. Det kan exempelvis vara så att en influencer mer många följare kan kännas mer trovärdig och att en okänd hemsida med recensioner kan tappa trovärdighet. Respondenterna har varit överens om att influencers fungerar bättre som inspiration till produkter och tjänster, däremot är det recensioner som får dem att ta beslutet när det gäller ett köp. / Marketing today doesn’t look like it has done before, the digitization has resulted in a big change and lots of new opportunities for companies and individuals to advertise. Word-of-mouth has changed from something being said about a product or service in a conversation between two or more people to also be available online. There are a lot of different types of online word-of-mouth (eWOM), and we’re going to target influencers and online reviews. The study will look into the trust for influencers and online reviews perceived by the consumers and also examine how or if the amount of trust will alter depending on if the consumer approaches a high- or low involvement purchase. The study will be of a qualitative method where interviews will be held with six respondents. The questions will be cohere to the purpose of the study and the research questions. The result from this study shows that the consumer trust for influencers isn’t as significant as the trust for online reviews, despite that several of the consumers points out that there is factors that can change the amount of trust for both influencers and online reviews. For example an influencer with a lot of followers can appear to be more trustworthy than one with less, and a not that well known website with online reviews can appear less trustworthy. The respondents have agreed that influencers work better as inspiration for products and services, although they all thought that reviews are the deciding factor to making a purchase.
