The first part of this memoir entitled Nous étions les nerfs rêvant d'une émeute, proposes poems with the body as the central theme. A bruised and beaten down body, constantly challenged, put in danger, out of its equilibrium. The body is also the trigger of many tensions. It's being detailed in its physical relationship with the other through desire and sensuality. The physical and thinking body is depicted as being a world by itself, a world marked by injuries, the passage of time and sickness. The text here is the body. The images, as means of saying in resistance with common language, reveals the love relationship in a crude and sensual way.
The second part of this memoir analyzes the image of the body in the poetry of Roger Des Roches, more precisely in two books : Le Soleil tourne autour de la Terre and Tout est normal, tout est terminé. Set in a perspective of tenderness, eroticism and formalism, theses books explore mostly the female body as writing vector where we can read the literary dream, namely the drive of writing. In Des Roches poems, the body is a text, a frontier and an ideal. It compares sexual and textual pleasure.

The Search for the Sacred in Gabrielle RoySumsion, Ann Elizabeth 20 November 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Many anthropological studies have shown the prevalence of the sacred in primitive societies, manifested primarily in significant gestures such as exchanges, rituals, festivals, and the use of time and space. Some studies, in particular those of Roger Caillois and Mircea Eliade, have demonstrated that traces of the sacred, though seemingly displaced, remain present in modern and secular societies. This thesis will examine and bring to light these remnants of sacred behavior in the contemporary settings of the stories of Gabrielle Roy, focusing primarily on food-sharing, gift-giving, and festivals. Each analysis presented will detail how different aspects of the sacred are manifested in contemporary, though fictional, society, and each will permit individuals to identify ways in which modern man, whether religious or secular, is still very connected to sacred practices.

Fans Don't Boo Nobodies: Image Repair Strategies of High-Profile Baseball Players During the Steroid EraNielsen, Kevin R. 23 September 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Baseball's Steroid Era put many different high-profile athletes under pressure to explain steroid allegations that were made against them. This thesis used textual analysis of news reports and media portrayals of the athletes, along with analysis of their image repair strategies to combat those allegations, to determine how successful the athletes were in changing public opinion as evidenced through the media. The contexts, media reports, and strategies of Jason Giambi, Mark McGwire, Andy Pettitte, and Roger Clemens were analyzed and revealed important implications involving effective use of image repair strategies. They provided a deeper framework for the success of mortification strategies. An authentic, sincere mortification strategy has more power to change the media's reporting and portrayal of the athlete, while stunted or incentivized mortification strategies provide diminishing results. The four different situations of the players and the different combinations of strategies used provide insight into how much a public persona matters in confronting allegations. They show how ineffective the strategy of minimization is against allegations that involve on-field performance. The situations reveal how the promise of future on-field actions, along with actual on-field success can help repair an athlete's image without a solid rhetorical strategy. They show the amount of information offered, along with the strategies used, influences the amount of persuasion that occurs. The different situations also showed how a complete image repair strategy is successful in ending news coverage of the allegations and not just changing the media portrayal.

Christus im Zentrum : die christologischen Schwerpunkte im Leben von frère Roger von Taizé / Christ the center : the christological emphasis in the life of brother Roger Schutz of TaizéFuchser, Stefan 06 1900 (has links)
This present dissertation researches the christological key factors in the life and thinking of Frère
Roger Schutz of Taizé and shows specific connections to different theological theories. We find
several points of reference to the church fathers, the lutheran, catholic and orthodox Christology
which are categorized and evaluated. As a base of this systematic research, I use the theological
reflections, the diaries and the devotional books which Roger Schutz wrote between 1943 and 2005
as well as the liturgical sheets and prayer books in Taizé center.
The poetic language of Frère Roger needs a literally and theological interpretation which I
discussed with two Brothers of the community. The development of the christological thinking of
Roger Schutz is analysed through all phases of his life, so that at the end of my research I conclude
with three final observations which are interesting for the future of the community in Taizé as well
as for the christological discussion in the ecumenical context. / Systematic Theology & Theological Ethics / M. Th. (Systematic Theology)

ROMANTIC ART IN DISTRESS: THE DESPAIR OF FRENCH AESTHETICS IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY.MACARTHUR, ROBERT. January 1982 (has links)
This dissertation concerns itself with the period of the 1920's and 1930's in French intellectual history. Three prominent figures have been chosen from French culture of this period--Nobel Prize-winning author Roger Martin du Gard, cubist painter George Braque, and Christian existentialist Gabriel Marcel--to illustrate the thesis that this era witnessed a major breakdown in the "romantic style." This latter term is employed to describe the prevailing culture of the West dating from the eighteenth century. It is the view of this study that beyond the catastrophic wars and destruction that afflicted the West during this time, there was an underlying crisis taking place in this "romanticism" that caused as much, as was caused by, the events. Hence, the theme of this dissertation is cultural despair and illness. The subjects are used to portray this illness in the state it had reached by the 1920's and 1930's. It is concluded that basic inherent weaknesses that were latent to romanticism came to the surface in the twentieth century because that era was marked by a culmination of historical crises which exposed the hidden cultural one. The study deals with all the general tendencies of romanticism in a critical manner. The intention is to point out the dangers of some of these tendencies, and in what manner they were dealt with by the three subjects, whose approaches to romanticism were varied.

Previous issue date: 2010-10-20 / The agriculture, activity of primal importance for the human being, it is
indeed a route of access for the application of the chemical knowledge towards
its practice. Besides that, a sort of theoric concern that also configurated itself
as one of the outlines on which was delineated the agricultural practices at the
end of XVIII century and beginning of the XIX century, aiming the thecnincal
development.
Humphry Davy, who during his his career developed several studies with
latent practical concerns, starts in 1802 one cycle of lectures about agricultural
chemistry, supported by the Board of Agriculture, which extended until 1812,
culminating with the publication of the book Elements of Agriculture in 1813.
Davy, is usually known by his works with eletriciy and the posterior
identification of several chemical elements. In his researchs, showed great
interest towards nature and the composition of the matter, what was not
different on agricultural researchs.
Under the light of current historiography of science, this work intends to
analyze how Humphry Davy used to explain the phenomena linked to
vegetation, besides of the relevance of his books to agricultural practices / A agricultura, atividade de fundamental importância para o ser humano,
