A Mixed Method Analysis of Undergraduate Student-run Public Relations Firms on U.S. College Campuses

Maben, Sarah Kathleen 08 1900 (has links)
Student-run public relations firms are part of collegiate public relations pedagogy, and this study used a mixed-method approach to analyze such firms on U.S. campuses. A listing of campuses with student-run firms was created as part of this study. Through an online survey questionnaire, advisers from 55 of the 119 student-run firms provided data about firm characteristics and observations about student learning and career development. Multiple correspondence analyses was used to see if the firms grouped into clusters and somewhat aligned with previous research by Lee Bush in 2009. Firms clustered into four groups, with the fourth group representing a mix of the other three. One additional finding was that firm characteristics are more similar than dissimilar even when comparing firms of varying years in operation. Analysis of variance to compare characteristics between different types of firms revealed that one type of firm tended to employ students at a higher average number of hours per week (F = 6.61, eta squared=0.16) and one was more likely to be accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (F = 3.71, eta squared=0.13). Advisers reported mostly positive reflections on observed transformations they see in their student workers and the value of the firm experience including how it helps students in post-graduation job attainment. Responses to a graduate questionnaire is included but, because of low response rate (N = 6), provided only cursory information.

Zhao, Yan 10 1900 (has links)
Whether in the Western or Chinese context, the use of social media has become more and more common in journalistic practices. The identity of journalists on social media has been widely studied by lots of researchers. However, this kind of research is not thorough and comprehensive when it goes to a Chinese context, especially research on the identity of journalists working in state-run media in China. Therefore, this research aims at exploring the identity constructed on social media by Chinese journalists working in state-run media. By taking semi-structured interviews with nine journalists, it is concluded that three different ways are adopted to express themselves on social media: some journalists only build a professional identity on social media and publish contents without expressing their subjective opinions; some journalists only build a personal identity on social media and only publish contents related to their personal life or their own points of view; and some journalists build different identities on different social media. The construction of their identities on social media is affected by journalistic values and standards, their media institution as well as their relationships with their colleagues. To balance their personal identity and professional identity online, all participants try to distinguish and control their different identities built on social media. But this kind of effort does not work well all the time, especially for those who build only their personal identity on social media.

Blume, Pontus, Ekberg, Filip January 2021 (has links)
Increased participation in various social media platforms have led to large amounts of user data being generated, creating an opportunity for businesses that run the platforms to store and sell the data. This has created a situation where users are forced to weigh the benefits of using the platforms against sharing their personal information, which is a risk to their privacy. To address this issue, this study investigates how users weigh usability benefits against the perceived risks of sharing personal information. A case study was conducted on platforms run by Facebook (FP). Data collection was done through interviews and by gathering previous research before the result was analyzed using a qualitative method. The interview questions addressed usefulness, perceived risk and integrity management and were, among other research, formulated from the Technology Acceptance Model. The study made several interesting findings about usefulness, users’ need for integrity and how they perceive and tolerate various risks. Conclusions could then be drawn about how these findings affect users’ decision making process regarding their intention to use FP.

[pt] ELASTICIDADE DA DEMANDA DE PASSAGEIROS NA CIDADE DO RIO DE JANEIRO: UMA ANÁLISE DE CURTO E LONGO PRAZO / [en] PASSENGER DEMAND ELASTICITY IN THE RIO DE JANEIRO S CITY: A SHORT AND LONG RUN ANALYSES

HENRIQUE DE BETHENCOURT COSTA CARVALHO 12 September 2016 (has links)
[en] This study uses acknowledged models and which were applicable in international researches to figure up passenger demand elasticity, such as: Double Log, Partial Adjustment Model (PAM) and Cointegration techniques with Error Correction Model. In order to calculate the passenger demand elasticity by bus in the Rio de Janeiro s city from 2004 to 2014 was used Double Log. So as to distinguish short and long run elasticity was employed and compared the results of such models: Partial Adjustment Model (PAM) and Cointegration techniques with Error Correction Model (ECM). This study suggests that the most influential factors of passenger demand by bus in the Rio de Janeiro s city are: gross domestic product, bus fare and number of trips conducted by the fleet. As conclusion, we can claim that there is little distinction in terms of results when compares applied models, except for gross domestic product factor, which presented elastic demand and positive relation using Partial Adjustment Model (PAM) and inelastic demand and positive relation using Error Correction Model (ECM). Bus fare pointed a negative relation for both periods, although an inelastic demand for short run and an elastic demand for long run. Finally, number of trips conducted by the fleet exhibited positive relation and inelastic demand for short and long run.

An Econometric Analysis of the Office Market Rent in Istanbul : Long-run Equilibrium Rent Estimation / En ekonometrisk analys av kontorsmarknadshyrorna i Istanbul : Långsiktiga jämviktslägen uppskattning

Karahan, Gözde January 2019 (has links)
The Istanbul metropolitan area is the largest office investment made in Turkey. According to the CBRE ERIX data, the total office stock in Istanbul by the end of 2018 exceeded 7 million sqm. There is approximately 1 million sqm of pipeline figures. The biggest problem for office projects which in the hold-on status and under construction status, Turkey's economy is rapidly affecting office rents and tenants of office the selection criteria. In particular, high financing costs and construction costs increase the importance of predicting the rent figures in office investments. This degree project aims at contributing to the understanding of the Istanbul rental office market underlying mechanisms. The office market data will be analyzed between Q1 2005-Q4 2018 period. Long-term equilibrium rents will be reached for the Istanbul office market and examined sub-markets. With the econometric analysis method, the long-term causality for rent with employment, stock and vacancy will be examined. Short-term estimates will be made with an error correction model.

Šteklová, Petra January 2016 (has links)
Title: Starts of sprint disciplines performed by spastic athlete and particularities of the training process Aim of work: The aim of this work was analyzing of the specifics of athletic training determined for spastic sprinter class T38 and observation of the long term effect. Methods: This work presents an empiric-theoretical study. Due to the uniqueness of the theme, method of case study has been chosen (intra-individual observation). This method was applied on the particular spastic sprinter by using longitudinal quantitative observation during her top sport career and applying one-off analysis focused on evaluation of different types of starts. This observation had qualitative and quantitative part. The quantitative part was based on the interpretation of 2D video comparing three types of start (low start, mid-low start and low start with a diagonal arm position) with the optimal start position described in the books. Comparison of average time for 10 metre distance was determined as quantitative element. . The observational group consists of the sprinter with Cerebral Palsy at Czech representative level. Results: Our research resulted as follows: The mid-low start was assessed as the best one for the examined sprinter from the quality of start position point of view including the three...
