Influence of leadership and safety climate on employee safety compliance and citizenship behavioursDidla, Shama January 2008 (has links)
High-risk organizations are continuously striving to minimize risks and establish a safe working environment. While technology and high standards are crucial, a core aspect of an effective safety management system lies in safe human behaviour and this constitutes the main theme for this thesis. In order to assess the state of safety of an organization from a behavioural perspective, safety compliance (SC) and safety citizenship behaviour (SCB) were measured through interviews and quantitative studies with an emphasis on understanding the key aspects of leadership style and associated mediating factors that influence employees' safety compliance and safety citizenship behaviour.

The focus of this dissertation is the work analysis of ten electricians who act in confined space at underground power lines at the Estate Electricity Company in Porto Alegre, RS. It was identified the electricians’ ergonomic demand items. The research was carried out according to the participatory methods of survey and assessment of data, to improvement of safety and work conditions and, therefore, to prevent accidents. The research disclosed that the electricians have the relationship with their superiors, supervisors, and workmates as the most positive aspect of the job. On the other hand, they point out critical problems from different causes: biomechanical, task organization, environmental, and the ones related to the company. Overload regarding physical and mental work demand has been identified, proving that the fear, evident in the professionals’ speech is about the electricity, and not related to confined underground spaces. Besides, the research also displayed five procedures regarded as minimal standards to execute safe work in confined spaces: recognition, testing and monitoring atmosphere, ventilation, training and rescue. Despite the little knowledge electricians have on this criteria, some points of it were reported, some in an indirect way, during the interviews as relevant aspects to the work, being attributed to most of them a low level of satisfaction. Therefore, it comes to the conclusion that the implantation of a Permit-Requires Space Program, besides promoting accidents prevention in these spaces, has a direct relationship with the workers’ satisfaction.

A SEGURANÇA DO TRABALHO COMO UMA FERRAMENTA PARA A MELHORIA DA QUALIDADE / SAFETY WORK AS A TOOL FOR QUALITY IMPROVEMENTSilva, André Luís Cabral da 09 September 2011 (has links)
Nowadays, some tools are used for the management and quality control and also to
control the risks present in a work environment. The control involves the development
of management strategies for anticipation, recognition evaluation and implementation
of measures in order to converge to continuous improvement. This paper aims to
provide safety work as a tool for improving the quality of work and health. For this, we
sought grounding in current bibliographies in order to base a management proposal
that builds on the concepts of Integrated Safety and Quality Process. In addition, a
comparison was made between the main analytical tools or techniques used in these
two areas. Thus, was possible to verify the similarity between the tools and ability to
adapt these into other management systems. In the creation of the proposed the
model was divided into three lines of action in order to make possible their success. It
is evident that the Safety working with the Quality contributes to increased
productivity, quality of life, product quality and consequently the financial return.
do trabalho.

Has The Song Remained The Same?: Perceptions Of Effectiveness In Family Safety WorkMarshall, Debra 01 January 2012 (has links)
National and international research on governmental privatization efforts reflects myriad successes and failures. However, little is known about the effectiveness of family safety privatization efforts in the state of Florida. In Brevard County, Florida, family safety privatization efforts have been underway for several years now, and while evaluations are taking place, they do not reflect one key piece of information—the perceptions of family safety workers. A snowball sample was obtained from former and current child safety workers and open- and closed-ended questions were administered with a total of 15 former and current family safety workers who work or worked for several different public and private family safety agencies within Brevard County, Florida. Information was obtained regarding perceptions of privatization to adequately and more efficiently do the work of public entities. The results show two primary areas of interest. The model of care which has been instituted post-privatization (CARES) has been perceived as more effective than the former state model; the strongest problematic themes that developed concerned power, control, and the perception of unfairness. These themes are explored using a backwards mapping approach and recommendations for continued growth and cohesion are explored.

Olyckshantering och säkerhet på byggarbetsplatser : En jämförelsestudie mellan EQ Bygg AB och Byggmäster ABKaya, Augin, Jalal, Mariwan, Kollane, Sahal January 2022 (has links)
Purpose: This study where accidents often occur in the construction industry and most construction companies try to reduce the number of accidents at work each year. According to statistics, thousands of occupational accidents are reported annually. Dozens of these accidents have led to deaths. Construction companies have a challenge to secure the working environment on the construction site while trying to keep up with their final construction results on the contract. Method: This studies factors draws attention to the importance of safety and risk management in the construction site. It also highlights the measures to be taken into account so that future contracts can go through with reduced accidents at work. As a basis for this work, the safety work within two construction companies in Västerås has been investigated with the help of interviews and site visits. The questions were used as a clue to get answers to the study to be investigated. A literature study has been conducted in connection with a case study. At the beginning of the literature study, previous studies were analyzed using websites and scientific articles on how good work environment works together with laws and requirements. The case study had been based on interviews and surveys with the help of two construction companies in Västerås so-called EQ Bygg AB and Byggmäster AB. Results: The results of the study showed how these two construction companies differed on how they handle safety at the construction site. One company was a little bigger than the other, they had a stronger measures in terms of safety and risk management because they were working on larger contracts. The other company EQ Bygg had a little less capital than Byggmäster, but according to the interviews, they also had strong points on how they take care of their safety work. Conclusions: The biggest challenge that both companies had in common was that time pressure led to most work accidents because it creates stress for the employees. Proposals for measures that can help with the study are that construction companies should have good planning and work preparations to reduce future work accidents. Regular risk analyses are also recommended for construction companies to do. Safety thinking and risk management are important for both the contract and the employees.

Ny tillsynsmodell med tillhörande marknadsorienterade styrmedel : En granskning av föreslagen tillsynsmodell med Danmarks arbetsmiljömodell som förebildStaerner, Rebecka January 2011 (has links)
The corporate world has become increasingly unpredictable and complex. Several companies are dependent on a rapidly developing market. The development has created a positive impact on production but on working conditions it has resulted in increased work pace and load. Psychosocial and stress-related problems has increased. The development has also meant a greater awareness of work environment issues relevant to competition for customers and employees. The committee directive 2008:129, Marknadsorienterade styrmedel på arbetsmiljöområdet, describes the desire and the need to engender a more positive and aggressive treatment in the Swedish work environment policy. In addition to preventing poor work environment it will develop the working environment, develop individuals, been seen as a competitive weapon, and a success factor. On this basis, investigations, SOU 2009:40 and SOU 2009:97, were conducted. As a result of these a pilot of a new regulatory model in Sweden are tested. The study will examine regulatory model, how it works in the current situation and how the proposal that emerged during the years 2009, changes the regulatory model to the type of model that Denmark applies. The systematic work has importance for the supervision on a daily basis. The purpose is to create a good working environment and enforce the law. Therefore, its function and purpose of supervision is discussed. The majority opinions from Swedish social partners is most critical of the introduction, they are of interest in the study and are therefore presented. The study is being conducted from a legal dogmatic and analytical method. The findings of this study is critical to the implementation of the proposals. The reason lies in deficiencies in the investigations, the costs and the social partners' opinions. The positive incentives that the proposals presents does not weigh up for the deficiencies identified. The study also focuses on the importance of proper systematic work and its relationship to a more effective supervision. The key to this is described in the study as increased knowledge and advice in the work area both during education but also in the practical work in organizations. Instead of a new regulatory model should the current model be developed and can then create the desired effect on the labor market.

This compilation thesis investigates risk and safety management at the Swedish local governmentallevel. It sets special focus on municipal implementation of overall international and nationalstrategies and objectives regarding holistic, cross-sectorial and multi-strategic risk and safetywork, and the prevention of accidents and injuries. The overall aim for this thesis have been to empirically map and provide an overview of theadministrative structures for, and the prevailing management perspectives applied in the societalrisk and safety management in Sweden, as well as to study the diffusion of strategic intentions forthis area down to the municipal level. Three different sources constitute the thesis empirical base: two different set of official planningdocuments, written by Swedish municipal officials on commission of the local politiciansand one set of data from a survey investigation with municipal officials representing differentdepartments/functions. The documents were investigated using content analysis, while datafrom the survey were analyzed using statistical measures. This thesis provides through its empirical works an outlook on the general characteristics andarchetypical features of the Swedish local level’s administrative structures and managementperspective on risk and safety management; and proposes a municipal typology and a set of valuecharacters for allocation and institutionalization of risk and safety-tasks. This thesis also suggestsa conceptual framework for overviewing risk and safety management’s systemic steering elementsin its framework report. Based on the findings made, it seems as if the local level’s compliance tothe strategic level’s ambitions for the risk and safety area is hindered by practical implementationdifficulties and that much work remains in order to reach stated strategic objectives regardingholistic, inter-sectorial and multi-strategic management approaches, and preventive risk andsafety work. / Baksidestext The compilation thesis investigates Societal Risk and Safety Management (SRSM) at the Swedish local governmental level. It sets special focus on municipal implementation of overall international and national strategies and objectives regarding holistic, cross-sectorial and multi-strategic risk and safety work, and prevention of accidents/injuries and promotion of safety. Three different sources constitute the thesis empirical bases: two different sets of official governmental planning documents, written by Swedish municipal officials on commission of the local politicians and one set of data from a survey investigation with municipal officials (n=1283), representing different administrative departments/functions within different municipalities.
