Recreating Creation: Designing the Costumes for Children of Eden

Nicks, Andie 01 May 2017 (has links)
Southern Illinois University’s Department of Theater presented Children of Eden on the McLeod Theater stage in October of 2016. This Thesis is an examination of the process of designing the costumes for the production from the early play analysis, through the design, to the performances. Stephen Schwartz and John Caird’s Children of Eden is a musical exploration of the first nine chapters of the book of “Genesis.” Our production of Children of Eden focused on creating a global exploration of the familial themes. The first chapter of this document contains an in-depth analysis of this script. Chapter Two covers the designing of the show. The third chapter discusses the production process. Chapter Four offers an overview of the tech rehearsals and performances of the show. Finally, the fifth chapter examines the original goals set for myself and the execution of each goal. The visual process for each character’s design can be found in the Appendices, including rough sketches, renderings, fitting photos and production photographs.

Examining Cross-cultural Affective Components of Global Competence From a Value Perspective

Awaida-Nachabe, Nadia 21 June 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore perceived importance of cultural values and affective components in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and their relationships. This study identified which of the nine affective components of global competence and four higher order cultural values were perceived to be important in the MENA region. It also examined the correlations between cultural values and affective components and whether significant differences existed based on gender, age, and country of citizenship. This research involved the combination of Wallenberg-Lerner’s Affective Component Questionnaire (ACQ) and Schwartz’s Portrait Value Questionnaire (PVQ). In conjunction with a demographic information form, the Affective Component Value Questionnaire (ACVQ) was developed. A panel of experts assisted in establishing the validity of the instrument. All nine affective components were perceived to be important in this global era. Self-assurance, Tolerance for Ambiguity, and Connectedness were perceived to be the most important affective components of global competence, while the cultural value of Self-transcendence was recognized as the most important. Several positive correlations existed between three cultural values and eight affective components. The cultural value of Self-transcendence had the highest number of positive correlations with the seven affective components. Self-enhancement did not reveal any correlations. Analysis of variance was conducted to determine the differences in perceptions based on age, gender, and country of citizenship. No significant differences were present in the perceptions of the affective components and the cultural values based on gender. Perceptions by age were similar for the affective components, but differed for the cultural values. MENA citizens between the ages of 18-25 years more highly regarded the cultural value of Openness to Change and the 46 years and older age group more highly regarded Conservation than the other groups. Perceptions by country of citizenship differed for the affective components, but were similar for the cultural values. Lebanon more highly regarded the affective components, of Adaptability and Empathy. Morocco more highly regarded Connectedness while Tunisia more highly regarded Curiosity. The findings of this research could have a global benefit of raising the awareness and the integration of the MENA’s perceptions of global competencies into the areas of education, research, policy initiatives, and the private sector.

Pracovní hodnoty studentů PEF MENDELU

Fedorová, Barbora January 2019 (has links)
FEDOROVÁ, B. Working values of FBE Mendel students. Diploma thesis. Brno: Men-del University, 2019. The diploma thesis deals with the issue of working values of students of the Faculty of Business and Economics of Mendel University in Brno. The main aim is to propose recommendations for employers, based on the mapping of the work values of the 1st year of bachelor’s degree and the 2nd year of master’s degree. The work deals with the identification of the values according to the concept of S. H. Schwartz using the PVQ method and the analysis of other factors. A questionnaire survey (n = 256) was used to obtain important information. On the basis of the research, it was found that students correspond to the assumptions of the young ge-neration. It means that they like to enjoy life, are independent in their actions, and the prosperity of others is important to them. At the same time, work is becoming increasingly important to them during university studies.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2369429 bytes, checksum: e153de91cfde84f43444fbace618ddf1 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-02-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / ABSTRACT The main objective of the present dissertation was comparing the theories of Schwartz (Universal Theory of Human Values) and Gouveia (Functionalist Theory of Human Values), in function of their hypotheses of content and structure and predictive power. Two empirical studies were designed. The first study aimed to test the hypotheses of content (adequacy of the number of motivational types and subfunctions) and structure (spatial organization of values) of the two models. Participants were 1173 peoples with an average age of 25.1 years (sd = 8.5), they responded the following measures: Basic Values Questionnaire (BVQ), Schwartz Values Survey (SVS) and demographic questions. The hypotheses of content and structure were supported in both models; only in the case of Schwartz model the configuration (structure) differed when the estimator Torgerson was employed in confirmatory multidimensional scaling. Futhermore, the postulated circumplex structure of Schwartz s model was not confirmed. Study 2 assessed the relationship between values and behavior, trying to gauge the predictive power of the two theories. Participants were 836 peoples with an average age of 22.4 years (sd = 7.31), they responded the following measures: BVQ, Portraits Values Questionary (PVQ 21), demographic questions, and two measures of behavior, one for to represent the motivational types of Schwartz and another covering the subfunctions of Gouveia. In general, the two models offered a moderate correlation between values and behavioral indicators. The model of Gouveia (0.47, sd = 0.14) presented average correlations higher than Schwartz s model (0.33, dp = 0.08) [t = - 2.59, p < 0.01]. In conclusion, both theories presented satisfactory results, justifying that are employed in the context of studies on the correlates of human values. However, the model of Gouveia showed something more appropriate, especially when you consider this to be more parsimonious. The limitations of the studies were discussed, indicating that future research may help to know to what extent these models are specific and / or complementary.

Oceňování swing opcí na trzích elektrické energie / Swing option valuation on electricity and natural gas markets

Uher, Martin January 2013 (has links)
Swing options had been part of natural gas market before its embedded option feature was appreciated. The flexibility of delivery is valuable because of characteristic features of energy commodities as non-storability, high frequency of events and seasonality. Swing options enable this flexibility. Holder of the option is allowed to react to market situation in flexible way and change the amount of delivery up or down in some known intervals. Total deviation from negotiated amount can't exceed some boundaries in case of "take-or-pay" condition. It is not unique general valuation form of such flexible contracts as swing options. General definition of Longstaff Schwartz Least Square approximation method (LSM) is provided at first. Then it is shown other standard valuation concept as finite difference method. It is also mentioned tree method and more complex dynamic stochastic programming method. Analysis of energy commodities time series of central Europe is done and it is shown example of LSM approach use in valuing swing option with underlying asset of base load electricity in Czech Republic.

Modely chování úrokových sazeb / Interest Rate Models

Nikolaev, Alexander January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with short-term interest rate models. Many interest models have been developed in the last decades. They focus on accuracy of prediction. The pioneering one was developed by Vasicek in 1977 followed by the work of others. Nowadays these vary in their level of comprehensiveness and technical difficulty. The main aim of the thesis is to introduce not only a basic Vasicek's work but also more sophisticated models such as Brennan-Schwartz or Longstaff-Schwartz.

Em busca de um olhar judaico: análise das séries fotográficas Histórias Bíblicas, de Adi Nes, Marcados, de Cláudia Andujar, e Crisálidas, de Madalena Schwartz / In search of a Jewish eye: analysis of the photographic series Histórias Bíblicas, by Adi Nes, Marcados, by Cláudia Andujar, and Crisálidas, by Madalena Schwartz

Feder, Leonardo 29 May 2013 (has links)
The aim of this research is to discourse about the Jewish eye that, by assumption, permeates the work of three contemporary photographers and evaluate if there are tendencies that point to the Jewishness of photographies. The studied artists are the Israeli Adi Nes and the Brazilians of Hungarian origin Cláudia Andujar e Madalena Schwartz, that, respectively, produced the series Biblical Stories (2003-2006), Marcados [Marked] (1981-1983) and Crisálidas [Chrysalides] (1973-1976) published in 2007, 2009 and 2012. Adi Nes (1966-), by staging in studio contemporary situations of misery in Tel Aviv with actors representing biblical characters (Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Elijah, Joseph, Ruth, Cain, Abel and David), re-updated the stories of Hebrew Bible, as does Midrash (book or excerpt of rabbinic commentaries) and, talmudically, connected signifiers apparently different that suggest a lot of meanings. Cláudia Andujar (1931-) correlated the indigenous situation to Jewish history, by depicting the Indians Yanomami with a numbered plaque in neck (to identify who was vaccinated), what links to the numbers tattooed in the skin of prisoners that enter in death camps during Shoah, what, in return, reinforces the threat to survival of Indians when white people invade their lands. Madalena Schwartz (1921-1993) photographed travestites and crossdressers of underground theatre done by Dzi Croquettes, group that, by transiting between masculine and feminine genders, cultivated hibrid, fragmented identities and experienced an exilic condition shared by the artist, due to her transcultural moves, by doing the migratory route Budapest-Buenos Aires-São Paulo.

O índice de Poincaré-Hopf e generalizações no caso singular / The Poincaré-Hopf index and generalizations in singular case

Dalbelo, Thaís Maria 25 February 2011 (has links)
In this work, we study thePoincaré-Hopf index, defined for isolated singularities of vector fields on manifolds. Moreover, we investigate some definitions of indices of vector fields defined on singular varieties, as the Schwartz index and the GSV index. We study these invariants in the case where (V; 0) is a germ of a complete intersection with an isolated singularity at the origin

Vliv individuálních hodnot pracovníků na spolupráci v týmu / Impact of Individual Values on Teamwork

Prunerová, Magdaléna January 2019 (has links)
The quality of work performance and cooperation within the team is determined by organizational culture and the values of organization and individuals. Having different values can often lead to conflicts and may also cause decrease in team effectiveness and demotivation. The target of the thesis is to identify the influence of individual values on the team cooperation. To define the types of value orientation of particular team members I shall use the theories of Shalom Schwarz and strengths inventory methods of Ellias H. Porter. A quantitative research realized on a target group of seventy managers of international companies is a part of this thesis. The research is targeting to verify the impact of individual value preferences on employee behavior within team work for the chosen sample of managers. To reach the empirical research a combination of methods of questionnaires and standardized interviews shall be used. Key words: values, organizational behaviour, cooperation, Schwartz, Porter, portrait value survey, Motivational value system
