A Study of Video Self-Confrontation Therapy Involving Children Engaged in Individual Play Therapy

Persful, Pamela Beth 05 1900 (has links)
The problem of study concerns whether the video self-confrontation technique would have a beneficial behavioral effect on children engaged in play therapy, as had previously been demonstrated on adults receiving psychotherapy. Using this technique, videotape equipment records a patient during a therapy session after which the patient is confronted with the reality of his own image and behavior. The objectives of the video technique are to accelerate insight and positive behavior change.

Discovery, video self-confrontation, and intervention as a means to improve quality of individual instrumental practice

Brecht-Haddad, Daniel Nagib January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Curriculum and Instruction / Frederick Burrack / The purpose of this research is to discover influences that guide practice habits of collegiate instrumental music students, explore student self-discovery of practice needs, and create strategies that can be used to improve the quality of students’ individual music practice. To best address these intentions, three unique yet sequential studies were implemented. The Discovery study focused on the uncovering prior experiences that shaped students’ practice habits before entering college to get an idea of how current practice habits were formed. The Video Self-Confrontation study had participants watch a video recording of a practice sessions to address possible gaps between their perception and the reality of their practice habits. The video self-confrontation prompted discussion about possibilities for enhanced practice skills. The Intervention study expanded upon information from previous studies to develop and administer personalized interventions designed to address weaknesses and identify effect on participants’ practice habits. Independent practice, the time after instruction when a student works toward mastery of skills or concepts, is widely recognized as a critical component of improvement in the performance music. These studies aim to help bridge the gap between practice theories and optimal experiences. These studies explored elements related to practice behavior. Because each person had unique experiences and diverse ways to describe their experiences, a methodology for each study was required that allowed for structured data collection and organization. As such, the constructivist paradigm supported these studies.

Drey, Rafaela Fetzner 28 August 2008 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-03-05T18:11:57Z (GMT). / The main aim of this study is characterize how two teachers of Portuguese who work in a public High School represent their own acting as teaching professionals. This research was developed from the experiment of a new writing methodology – the organization of a didactic sequence from the text genre perspective (Schneuwly & Dolz, 2004) – which enrolled a motivation a motivation for a teacher’s self-reflection during the self-confrontation mode (Clot, 1999/2006). The conjugation of two perspectives compounds the theoretical basis for this project. The Socio-discursive Interactionism (ISD) epistemological frame; and the ergonomical studies proposed by The Activity Clinic (Clot, 1999/2006; Clot e Faïta, 1999). The choice of the Socio-discursive Interactionism as the main philosophical and theoretical basis is justified by the goal of changing the current text concept in Portuguese as a Native Language classrooms, besides deepen the focus on studies which consider the teaching acting as an occupation throught it

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2756242 bytes, checksum: 2fa3a42dd8e7847e411a0884dba28cb3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-03-22 / Situated in the field of Applied Linguistics, the present study is about language regarding teachers‟ work during the Letters-English undergraduate program at UFPB - in special, in the PIBID program - focusing on the emotions and resources for acting through language. The main objective is to give visibility to emotions experienced in the context of teacher education and work, as well as to its recursiveness in language, by means of investigating representations of emotions and resources for acting in undergraduate voices. As a way to trigger this language in dialogue, the following tools from the Clinic of Activity are used: simple self-confrontation (SSC) and cross self-confrontation (CSC). The texts were generated in two SSC sessions with two novice teachers, one with each research collaborator, and one CSC session with both collaborators, in 2015-6. These texts are analyzed in the light of Socio-discursive Interactionism (BRONCKART, 2008, 2012), focusing on thematic content and modalizations, so that to comprehend the lines that weave emotions and interweave resources for acting on verbalization about teachers‟ education and work. For this, other relevant concepts involve emotion (SPINOZA, 1955, VYGOTSKY, 2004, GOLEMAN, 2007; CRAMPTON; LEWIS,2016), reconfiguration (BRONCKART, 2008), objective, subjective and social worlds (HABERMAS, 2010), empathy (BAKHTIN, 2010), discursive genre and style (BAKHTIN, 1997) and professional genre and style (CLOT, 2007, 2010). The analysis is developed in order to discuss the following research questions: which themes emerge in language about teachers´ work? How are emotions and resources for acting thematized and intertwined in graduating teachers´ voices? In which way are resources for acting woven from emotions and vice-versa? On answering these questions, threads of the objective, social and subjective worlds are unraveled through modalizations present in teacher discourse. Based on this analysis, remarks about teacher education are woven, in terms of inclusion in the professional genre and the development of style, of situations that mobilize the emotions of graduating teachers, of the reconfiguration of emotions and acting, as well as the fabric of resources for acting, amongst others, emphasizing the emotional dimension of teachers. Lastly, considerations based on the discussion of data are presented, as the necessity of emotional education at schools and at universities, as well the relevance of work groups, of reconfiguration processes and of psychological support in teachers‟ courses.

Serriere-Glaudel, Anne 18 November 2016 (has links)
We approach the teachers’ “didactic activity” as the individual and collective process of drawing up and realizing the task, when this one involves both teaching and instructing disciplinary knowledge. We will focus on primary school teachers’ didactic activity in geography, which becomes the “teachers’ geographical discourse” while interacting with pupils. For this purpose, we mobilize a framework of geography didactic, based on the concept of personal geographical relationship to the world, as well as some concepts of ergonomic and clinical analysis of the activity. This study is based on the analysis of four geography “teaching units”, led with 9 to 11 year- old pupils, and on a corpus resulting from self-confrontation interviews. The results present both the singularity and the generic characteristic of the didactic activity and of the teachers’ geographical discourses. They highlight the important place taken up by the resources produced by the individual world experience, by the subject matter and by the endogenous prescription within the didactic activity of the pluri-disciplinary teachers. The analysis of the self-confrontation interviews reveals the central role of subjective mobilization in the drawing up of the task and in the opening of a potential development area of the teachers’ didactic activity.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Raquel de Godoy Retz.pdf: 817499 bytes, checksum: 3a5a92a7c1feee288e37fb44e4523d39 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-05-14 / The main goal of this study is to understand the self-confrontation as a possibility of reflection and movement in the performed activity the practice during the trainee period. Considering the theoretical and analytical categories of Dialectical Historical Materialism, and studies about the activity , according to the theory of Clinical Activity by Yves Clot, the study proposition is focused on the self-confrontation technique, with some changes proposed by this researcher. Two pedagogy students (trainees) are recorded while teaching and, then, go through the self-confrontation stage, in which they watch their own practices during the recorded classes. The researcher questions about the classes, makes propositions and gives suggestions about those practices. The focus on the self-confrontation technique as an appropriate tool for the formal education of teachers is based in theories which consider reflection as the main part of the professional education process. During the analysis of the self-confrontations, the points of observation are the reflections expressed by the trainees and their movements, the variations of activities, and the comparison between self-confrontations / O objetivo principal desta pesquisa é compreender a autoconfrontação como possibilidade de reflexão e movimento, na atividade executada - o estágio.

Analysis of students' activity and personality developmentin math class : Three case studies among high school students from Saudi Arabia and France.

Aljohani, Amaal 10 November 2016 (has links)
In the social constructivist theory of Vygotsky (1985), taking into account the student, his knowledge and its culture is a must for learning and development. This research focuses on the analysis of the activity of the students of first year of high school, the critical age for the development of the adolescent's personality with regard to mathematical reasoning. The choice of subject is come from the reform of the Saudi educational system, and its project to develop mathematics in school. In this socio-constructivist approach, we decided to go closer to learning, field and also off the Saudi system, to see what is happening elsewhere, what is instead left to the young students. We observed, analyzed and discussed the interaction between students and teachers from three math classes in France and Saudi Arabia. In the approaches used in islet configuration, we realize that this is not just an organization in islet that can give voice to young students. The exchanges from the answer to a question, between the teacher and the students were low. In this thesis, we see give voice to young students in two different devices; focus group of l’ACG « l’autoconfrontation de groupe de jeunes », (the youth group of self-confrontation) that we have developed in our analyzes. The innovative approach (ACG) gives voice to young people in a social constructivist dynamics is that we seek to move to Saudi Arabia. The results show that the two devices are rich in potential, both rich because it gives confidence to students, and also because self-esteem is revalued. We also note that these devices have allowed an evolution of teaching practices.

La régulation de l'activité en situation tutorale : le cas des masseurs-kinésithérapeutes / Activity regulation in a mentoring context : the case of physiotherapists

Sartier, Florence 11 September 2019 (has links)
This research focuses on the regulation of the activity of physiotherapists in a mentoring context. To carry out our survey, we implemented video regulation interviews with eight dyads in the context of mentor regulation and exchanges between tutor and tutee, following a clinical learning situation. We opted for a discursive approach to analyse the types of regulation feedback favoured by mentors. We also examined regulation signs which correspond to regulation intents in tutee’s discourses. The content analysis methodology (Bardin, 2007) allowed us to highlight the topics most often discussed during the interactions which sustain the regulation interviews, in relation to professional representations. The self-confrontation interviews method enabled us to understand the regulation process: it allows to probe into the tutor and tutee dilemma inherent to regulation interviews, along with Clot (2014, 2000). The theoretical references come mainly from the field of adult training, for instance “accompanied professional learning” (Jorro et al, 2016) and the regulation of learning (Allal, 2007). Our results are manyfold: informative feedback is more used by the tutor than reflexive feedback or evaluation feedback. The tutees express their intentions to change their practices for improvement in varying proportions during both the regulation and the self-confrontation interviews. We could identify the mentoring feedback which best favours the student’s mental process of regulation practice. We also singled out the words used by the tutee, which are evidence of the regulation process at stake during the activity conception. We finally suggest a classification of the various activity regulations.

The person-organization fit of accounting students: long term value change following an education intervention

Ariail, Donald Lamar 11 1900 (has links)
The accounting profession continually has problems with hiring and keeping qualified staff; and many accounting scandals have shown a lack of ethical behavior on the part of Certified Public Accountants (CPA). This suggest a misfit between those in the profession and the ethics that the profession strives towards. Research has shown that the congruity of personal values with organizational values, person-organization fit (P-O fit), is an important factor in the hiring, socialization, and retention of employees. In addition, ethical behavior has been found related to P-O fit. Accounting educators have been called upon to address these problems by inculcating accounting students with the values of the accounting profession. This research firstly reports on the results of a comparison of the personal values of upper level accounting students in Georgia with the personal values of CPA leaders in Georgia. Personal value priorities were measured with the Rokeach Value Survey (RVS). The findings indicated that these samples of Georgia CPA leaders (N = 193) and accounting students (N = 516) significantly differed in the priority given to 24 of the 36 (66.7%) RVS values. This result suggests a lack of P-O fit between accounting students and the accounting profession. Secondly, this research reports on the effectiveness of two education interventions designed to improve the P-O fit of accounting students: a Curriculum Modification Intervention and a Value Self-Confrontation (VSC) Intervention. These education interventions were delivered online as part of the content of two distance learning classes on accounting ethics. The curriculum of both classes were augmented with content aimed at increasing the priority given to the value of courageous. The two classes were designated as either Group 1 or Group 2. Group 1 received only the Curriculum Modification Intervention. Group 2 received both the Curriculum Modification Intervention and the VSC Intervention, which was targeted at increasing the priority given to the four values of capable, courageous. honest, and responsible—values related to the Code of Professional Conduct and Bylaws (2012) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The results indicated that Group 1, from the beginning to the end of class (short-term value change), did not increase the priority given to courageous. Thus, the stand-alone Curriculum Modification Intervention did not result in the desired effect. Group 2, on the other hand, did increase the short-term priority given to all four of the targeted values. Moreover, Group 2 increased the long-term priority given to two of the four targeted values: capable and courageous. The higher priority given to these values at the end of class persisted for 15-16 weeks. The effect sizes indicated practical significance. These results suggest that the VSC Intervention was effective at inducing both short-term and long-term value change in the priority given to values of importance to the ethics of the accounting profession. These findings have implications for CPA firms, specifically with regard to hiring ethically “fitting” staff and fostering an ethical culture in accounting firms. The results of this research also provide input that may be helpful in improving accounting pedagogy, especially the pedagogy of accounting ethics education and distance education. Key words: person-organization fit, P-O fit, CPA firm turnover, personal values, value change, value self-confrontation, VSC, Rokeach Value Survey, RVS, Certified Public Accountant, CPA, ethics education, accounting students, online education, distance learning. / Business Management / D.B.L.
