Holm, Linda, Rodriguez, Simone January 2014 (has links)
Background: Sex as self-injury is a topic that has received increased media attention in recent years. Scientific research, however, is neglected. Objective: To investigate the perceived experience and the existing state of knowledge about sex as self-injury and what care is given to patients with self-injurious behaviour. This is to see how suffering is alleviated and health promoted in nurses daily care. Method: Cross-sectional study in which 70 registered nurses answered a questionnaire with a quantitative component which was reported with descriptive statistics and a qualitative part in which the accounts took the form of a content analysis according to Graneheim and Lundman (2004) . Results: Most of the nurses thought they knew what sex as self-injury involves. However, 77% (n = 54) experienced that their knowledge was not sufficient. Fully half of the nurses (60%) had experience of sex as self-harm and factors that could be linked to the sexual self-injury were other psychiatric diagnoses, and low self-esteem. The nursing interventions which were mainly used in contact with persons with a self- injurious behaviour were recommendations on sleep, nutrition and physical activity, and support-conversations. Conclusion: The knowledge of the subject among the nurses exists but more knowledge is needed in the field in order to improve the care of patients with sexual self-injurious behaviour.

Ärren vi bär i själen : Behandlande arbete med unga med ett sexuellt riskbeteende / Scars carried in our souls : Treatment of young people with sexually risky behaviour

Axelsson Cramer, Daniella January 2024 (has links)
Any form of self harm can be triggering and hard for most people to be confronted with. Sexually risky behaviour and sex as self-injury among young people is no exception. This study aims to explore and analyse how social workers in the field of psychiatric care for young people in Sweden work with this group. For this study four interviews were conducted and analysed with systems theory.  To further deepen the studies result, a variation of literature has been included. The result of the study showed how dedicated social workers worked in interprofessional teams as well as with the youths families, in ordr to provide the youth with care suitable for their needs. The results from both the interviews as well as the literature reviewshow that although there is currently a need for more structured and evidence-based guidelines and work methods, it is a field where forward-looking research and great development are constantly present.

Paquay, Linn, Ohlsson, Frida January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this qualitative study was to examine how different professionals with knowledge of sexual problems, perceive and think about sex as self-injury. Sex as self-injury is a relatively new subject in research contexts and hence the reaserch is limited. For this study ten qualitative interviews were conducted with professionals who work with clients/patients with different kinds of sexual problems in metropolitan areas and one medium-sized city in Sweden. The material collected was processed by thematic analysis and analyzed based on the sexual script theory. The study indicates that the professionals believe that sex as self-injury has nothing to do with the type of sexual activity a person engages in, but rather for what reason, and how the person feels during or after sex/abuse. Whether or not a person is engaging in sex as self-injury is something that has to be defined by a the persons themselves, according to the professionals. The study also indicates that the professionals feel uncertain about what the term actually entails.
