Development of new criteria for train detection and evaluation in critical conditions

Kerbal, Sofiane January 2019 (has links)
Railway signaling is of paramount importance to ensure traffic management andsafety on the rail network. The main lines are divided into sections called ‘blocks’,which are governed by a fixed signal installation. To prevent trains from colliding, each block allows one train at once. In France (and most European countries),train detection is performed by an electrical device called track circuit that consistsof a transmitter and a receiver installed at the track-side, and connected via therails. In the absence of a train, an electrical signal flows from the transmitter tothe receiver through the rails. As a train enters a track circuit, its axles shuntthe rails, provoking a short circuit (also called ‘shunt’): the signal transmitted tothe receiver drops. The detection of that signal drop results in the detection of atrain. This method rarely fails throughout the network, but there can be criticalcases where it may be inefficient. In this Master’s Thesis, new detection criteriaproposed in previous studies have been tested on signals measured in poor shuntingconditions. Three approaches have been tested: one in the time domain and two inthe frequency domain. The time approach compares the short-term and long-termstatistics of the received signals. The observation of a change in the spectra of thereceived signals around the 3rd order harmonic (3OH) has led to the implementationof two frequency criteria: the estimation of the band power around the 3OH andthe detection of the 3OH peaks. The obtained results show that better detection isachieved when the new criteria and the existing one are combined.

Optimal collection grid and transmission line topology for the grid connection of an offshore multi-source park.

Nerby, Alfred January 2022 (has links)
As spacial restrictions become more and more of an issue for renewable energy parks onshore, more developers are turning offshore to develop future production. The desire for a diversity of energy sources combined with a desire to utilize space efficiently has sparked an interest in renewable energy parks where more than one energy source occupy the space. This master thesis took up the task of modeling the grid connection of such an offshore multi-source park consisting of wind turbines and floating solar panels from a techno-economical perspective. The grid connection consists of everything from the wind turbine and solar output to the Point of Common Connection (PCC) onshore. The park consists of a 4x4 set of 15MW wind turbines accompanied by three large floating platforms of solar panels. Two different ways of creating the grid connection have been investigated, including many sub-cases. HVAC-transmission to shore has been compared with HVDC-transmission at different line voltages and transmission distances. The use of shunt reactors at the middle point of the transmission lines have been investigated to try extending the distance where HVAC was viable. A radial AC-collection grid has also been compared with a parallel DC-grid to see if DC-grids shows any promise. All of these different cases have been evaluated based on their total cost over a 25 year period. The result has shown that HVAC-transmission is desirable for shorter distances, but eventually reaches a break-even point where HVDC makes more sense economically. Adding a middle shunt was shown to be able to make HVAC competitive, if not desirable, compared to HVDC as the distance becomes long. Changes in the collection grid have significantly less of an impact on the cost of the entire system compared to the transmission. It was concluded that a multi- source park of wind and solar shows similar results compared to offshore parks consisting only of wind power and similar conclusions could be drawn. The biggest challenges for multi-source parks are not in the electrical domain, but in structural design where floating solar face a lot of challenges such as mechanical stress from strong waves. / EU-SCORES

La circulation de Fontan dans le traitement des cardiopathies congénitales uni-ventriculaires : Approche clinique, physiopathologique et expérimentale / The Fontan circulation in univentricular congenital heart disease treatment : Clinical, physiopathological and experimental approach

Henaine, Roland 19 December 2012 (has links)
On the longterm, heart failure, pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and exudative enteropathy may lead tothe Fontan failure.A clinical adjustment has been realized by focusing secondarily on adult patients. The advantage, insome cases of total anomalous pulmonary venous return, of the bidirectional cavopulmonary (BCP),which is an intermediate stage of Fontan, has been described. In order to prepare future clinical studies, we have discussed about Brain Natriuretic Peptide inpostoperative Fontan surgery. We have demonstrated the reliability of a new technology of pulseoxymetry in cyanotic children and the unreliability of a new device of impedance for non-invasivemonitoring of cardiac outpout in comparison with pulmonary arterial catheter.A viable chronic animal model of bidirectional cavo-pulmonary (BCP) has been developed. Itshowed that the antegrade pulsatile flow prevents the formation of pulmonary arteriovenous fistulas(PAVMs) ,improves hematosis and attenuates the development of PAH clinically supporting themaintenance of this flow when creating a BCP.Moreover, the loss of pulsatility while reducing the shear stress causes a decrease in e-NOSsynthase and a dependent vaso-relaxing altered response of the pulmonary arterial endothelium. Themicropulsatility limits these deleterious effects. These results imply potential therapies against thePAH of Fontan surgery, maintaining an accessory pulmonary blood flow and the pharmaceuticalvaso-relaxing non-endothelium dependent modulation.

Multi-scale approaches for the vibration and energy flow through piezoelectric waveguides : simulation strategies, control mechanisms and circuits optimization / Approches multi-échelles pour les vibrations et le transfert énergétique dans les guides d’ondes piézoélectriques : stratégies de simulation, mécanismes de contrôle et circuits d’optimisation

Fan, Yu 17 June 2016 (has links)
This thesis describes analysis and control approaches for the vibration and energy flow through periodic structures. The wave description is mainly used to address the structural dynamic problems considered in the thesis: forced response is calculated as the superposition of the wave motions; natural modes are understood as standing waves induced by the propagating waves that recover to the same phase after traveling a whole circle of the finite structure. One advantage of the wave description is that they can remarkably reduce the dimensions of structural dynamic problems. This feature is especially useful in mid- and high frequencies where directly computing the full Finite Element Method (FEM) model is rather time-consuming because of the enormous number of degree-of-freedoms. This thesis extends one widely used wave-based numerical tool termed Wave Finite Element Method (WFEM). The major improvements are the use of several Component Mode Synthesis (CMS) methods to accelerate the analysis for general waveguides with proportional damping or piezoelectric waveguides. The numerical error is reduced by using the proposed eigenvalue schemes, the left eigenvectors and the reduced wave basis. Another contribution is the multi-scale modeling approach for the built-up structures with both periodic and non-periodic parts. The main idea is to model the non-periodic parts by FEM, and model the periodic parts by WFEM. By interfacing different substructures as reflection coefficients or mechanical impedance, the response of the waveguide is calculated in terms of different scales. These two contributions extend WFEM to more complex structures and to more realistic models of the engineering applications.Another benefit of the wave perception is that it leads to new ideas for vibration control. In this thesis periodically distributed piezoelectric materials and shunt circuit are used to artificially modify the wave properties by electric impedance. A novel metrics termed the Wave Electromechanical Coupling Factor (WEMCF) is proposed, to quantitatively evaluate the coupling strength between the electric and mechanical fields during the passage of a wave. This factor can be post-processed from the wave characteristics obtained from WFEM through an energy formula. We show that WEMCF is strongly correlated to the best performance of the piezoelectric waveguide. Hence the design for the geometric and electric parameters can be done separately. An application is given, concerning the vibration reduction of a cantilever beam. WEMCF is used as an optimization objective during the geometric design, when the overall mass of the piezoelectric materials is constrained. Then the negative capacitance is used with a stability consideration to enlarge the Bragg band gap. The vibration is localized and efficiently dissipated by few boundary dampers. The wave-based design process yields several broadband, stable, lightweight and boundary condition insensitive solutions. Therefore, it is promising at mid- and high frequencies where exact modal information is difficult to access.

Zařízení pro zaznamenávání proudové spotřeby LPWA senzorů / Design of a current data logger for LPWA sensors

Mikulášek, Michal January 2020 (has links)
This Master thesis deals with the design and construction of a measuring device for measuring and the current consumption logging of sensors using LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technology. The theoretical part of the thesis firstly summarizes selected LPWAN technologies. Selected technologies, namely: LoRaWAN, Sigfox and Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), are described more in detail. Further, the current measurement techniques are briefly discussed. The main focus is given to the current shunt measuring methods. The second half of thesis describes procedures conducted during the design and construction of a measuring device. The current measuring is based on the current shunt circuit complemented by the voltage amplification circuit, whose output is subsquently converted into digital form using an AD converter. The thesis describes in great detail the procedures for selecting individual components and important processes used in design of printed circuit boards. An integral part of the measuring device implementation is the design and implementation of control software, which is described in detail and supplemented by workflow charts underlining the entire description. The implementation of the entire measuring device is completed by the design and implementation of the cover box using 3D printing technology. Finally, the specifications of designed device are briefly discussed based on the limits of the used components.
