Reuse / ReuseMattsson, Linnéa January 2013 (has links)
This project consists of and is driven forwards by three forces: PART ONE is the Story Behind, the environmental and political part with problems like waste management, over-consumption, and extreme lack of student housing in the Stockholm region in spite of the politicians’ promises. SECOND PART is the Collecting of Waste that are at hand, showing how much MATERIALS, still fully usable, we just discard of and the investigation of these - with a little creativity and innovation finding strategies to use them in a NEW WAY in the context of architecture, questioning the perception of second-hand materials. AND THIRDLY - reaction! The practical part, a full-scale built proposal with which I tie together this project. As a response to our consumption-oriented society, I collected whatever thrown away material at hand right here on the architecture school. With this material and the strategies discovered, I constructed a small student dwelling on a forgotten and unused space on the architecture school’s roof, making a statement towards the disappointing development of the student housing situation.

En fallstudie om bidrag och hinder i landsbygdsutveckling / A case study on contributions and obstacles in rural developmentAbrahamsson, Wilma January 2022 (has links)
The countryside is an important part of our society and a resource that can contribute to long-term sustainable development. However, there are prevailing problems in rural areas such as the closure of schools and reduced public transport. In recent times, there have been positive initiatives in rural areas. The work aims to inspire about the countryside and society by pointing to positive initiatives but also highlighting the problems and obstacles that exist in the countryside. The work is carries out in the form of interviews and a case study with three rural projects. The case study examined various projects and processes that are in time and how they can creare a more vibrant countryside. The results showed that positive initiatives together with the processes that lie in time can contribute to a more vibrant rural area. The rural projects in the case study together with the interviews show that there is potential for sustainable dimensions are affected in the various rural projects. The conclusions drawn are based on the results obtained from both the case study and the interviews. Based on the work, it can be seen that there are several factors such as synergies, entrepreneurship and grassroots innovation that affect the countryside positively but also what can contribute to more vibrant countryside.

BMA / BEURA : Evolving inhabitation through self-building and adaptive reuse / BMA / BEURA : Utvecklande av bebyggelse genom självbyggeri och återbrukHedin, Karl January 2023 (has links)
My thesis, "BMA (Bromma airport) / BEURA (Bromma experimental urban recycling association), an adaptive rebirth", explores the potential for an evolution of self-built circular inhabitation on the airport runway of Bromma through adaptive reuse and circular construction. The Bromma Airport in Stockholm is set to cease operation by 2038, leaving behind a vast expanse of infrastructure that could be repurposed for other uses. Instead of a late termination of the air traffic tenure, my proposal calls for the airport to be shut down immediately in favor of evolving dwellings on the site through community-based dynamic urban planning. This alternative plan for the future of Bromma Airport considers how the extensive flat surface of concrete that the runway provides can be utilized for slabs and foundations in circular construction and adaptive reuse for self-built dwellings. My project aims to critique and challenge the current "housing as a commodity" discourse and argues for a greater qualitative approach to urban planning. Rather than focusing, for instance, on the number of dwellings, my proposal emphasizes the integration of different functions, community engagement, and the evolution of dwellings according to needs and supply/ability. By planning for a sustainable, community-focused inhabitation that prioritizes shared spaces and sustainable living practices, my proposal offers a model for future urban planning projects that prioritize qualitative measures beyond the obsolete urban planning trinity equilibrium of economic, social and ecological sustainability.
