The maintenance of a caring concern by the care-giverVan der Wal, Dirk Mostert 11 1900 (has links)
The question the researcher set out to answer during this research is: How is a caring concern maintained by the (student nurse) as caregiver? It stemmed from unresolved plausible hypotheses stated during a previous qualitative study into the phenomenon caring, from media
reports on the "poor care" rendered in health institutions in South Africa, and a concern about the Tylerian rationale in nursing education.
The theory generation required was achieved through Wertz's Empirical Psychological Reflection and existential phenomenology. Heidegger's theory of"Care as the essence of being" constituted a central concept in this research. A linguistic epistemology and expanded definition of the term empirical were also pertinent in this research.
The literature review focussed on the methodology, ontology (caring and maintenance) and epistemology, serving a purpose towards bracketing.
A purposive sample of informants was extracted according to students' performance on the Personal Orientation Inventory (POI).
Sixteen qualitative research interviews were conducted. Analysis was conducted through open coding, categorisation and axial coding. At the idiographic level, twelve individual psychological profiles were constructed serving the purpose of imaginative variation. At the nomothetic level four major themes emerged, namely: The Caring Phenomenon (Contextualisation); Factors Eroding a Caring Concern; Factors in the Maintenance of a Caring Concern; and Core
Experiences.
The dialogue among the four intra-psychic processes of Care, will, meaning attribution and conscience accounts for all events encountered in the data. This dialogue results in either reason or intuition, displaying caring and the maintenance of a caring concern.
Positing will and conscience as thesis and antithesis, the resulting synthesis postulates the basic ethical concepts of autonomy, authority, responsibility and accountability as existentially inherent to being and existence, and to the maintenance of a caring concern.
The final manifestation of the object ofintention, maintenance, is proposed as an anthropological model. When extended to the fields of (nursing) education, human motivation and the teaching
of (nursing) ethics, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, the self-science curriculum and life-skills training become imperative to (nursing) curricula. It is also proposed that human caring be studied as a manifestation of human motivation. / Health Studies / D. Litt et Phil. (Advanced Nursing Sciences)

Исследование взаимосвязи социального интеллекта с акцентуациями характера у подростков : магистерская диссертация / Correlation research on the social intelligence and the accentuation of personality traits in adolescentsTrubina, A. A., Трубина, А. А. January 2014 (has links)
The work is based on the theoretical and empirical analyses of the correlation between the social intelligence and the accentuation of personality traits made by Russian and foreign researchers. The scientific work has ongoing practical importance for the adolescence issue studies in order to form the personality of a teenager and build a solid capacity to show relevant reactions to the multitude of the influential factors (internal and external) that lead to successful adaptation and socialization in the community. There were examined models and indices of the social intelligence (social flexibility, empathy, assertion, self-control and etc.) and were illuminated the classification types of the accentuation and specification of personality traits. 74 schoolchildren (42 girls and 32 boys) at the age of 13-14 were tested using the M. O'Sullivan and J. P. Guilford Social Intelligence Test (adapted by E.S. Mihailova) and by the modify questionary on the accentuation types of personality traits in adolescents (modification of the diagnostician psychopathy questionary by A.Y. Lichko). For the statistical analysis were used t-distribution, Kruskal–Wallis one-way analysis of variance, chi-squared distribution. The types of accentuations were examine, having in mind the social intelligence development level, in the mixed group of the teenagers as well as in groups divided by sex.
The outcomes of the research can be used as a framework for psycho-social capacity-building projects, disorder treatment programs, and as an informational source to form the recommendations for the teachers and parents in order to reduce number of conflicts and minimize their effects in the school and families of the teenagers.

Emotional-social competencies that enhance wellness in teachers: an exploratory studyVan Wyk, Mirna F. 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MEdPsych (Educational Psychology))--University of Stellenbosch, 2006. / Stress has become endemic amongst teachers globally. Although there are common factors that account for the increased levels of stress among teachers, the particular factors involved differ from country to country. South Africa has gone through more than a decade of political and social change. Coping with the extended transitions within the educational system has affected teachers’ wellness.
Emotional intelligence or emotionalsocial competencies, the term used in the study, offers a way of viewing the means of primary prevention as a whole, rather as loosely related elements. This offers a practical way of describing the key range of competencies that make it possible to modulate emotions, to solve social problems creatively, to be effective leaders or collaborators, to be assertive and responsible, or to be able to ask evocative and/or social questions that lead to new learning. This study focuses on the need for teachers to develop specific social and coping skills, as well the need for them to have the necessary environmental support, to prevent stress and promote wellness in teachers.
This interpretive study used questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and "a day in the life of" interviews to explore the perceptions of Life Orientation teachers about the emotionalsocial competencies that improve and support their wellness.
The South African teachers surveyed consider that certain emotionalsocial competencies enhance their wellness. In their view, all teachers would benefit from having a toolkit emotionalsocial competencies. They also expressed the need for pre-service teacher education to offer training in these competencies.

Invloed van ʼn pendelhuwelik op die jong kind in die gesin / The influence of a commuter marriage on the young child in the familyDe Villiers, Heilletje Maria Margaretha 10 1900 (has links)
ʼn Gemengde navorsingsontwerp is as empiriese ondersoek gedoen. / Commuter marriages are increasing and have various influences on the young child in the family. The primary aim of this study was to determine the influences of a commuter marriage on a young child between 7 and 11 years, using emotional and social intelligence as a basis. A mixed method empirical research design was used. Three sessions were conducted with five participants individually to obtain data through: observations and field notes, projection media, a questionnaire, and a semi-structured interview with each mother. The measurement of emotional and social development through the use of the questionnaire shows that, despite the absence of the participants’ fathers, and the conflicts, fears and needs they experienced according to the projection media, the participants’ emotional and social development are predominantly average to high. The study hopefully provides a significant contribution to the understanding of how commuter marriages influenced five young children’s emotional and social development. / Psychology of Education / M.
