As práticas ágeis de desenvolvimento de sistemas de software são, neste trabalho, classificadas sob três aspectos: dependabilidade, domínios do ESSENCE e guidelines para redução de erro humano. A partir dessa classificação, um questionário baseado nas práticas relacionadas aos fatores humanos foi aplicado para desenvolvedores de sistemas de software com diferentes níveis de experiência com o objetivo de avaliar a interferência do ambiente na dependabilidade do sistema de software desenvolvido. O questionário foi respondido por 125 desenvolvedores. Os desenvolvedores foram separados em dois grupos e os grupos foram comparados em relação à percepção de certos guidelines para desenvolvimento de software para cada prática considerada. Os resultados do questionário mostraram que a utilização das práticas ágeis analisadas aumentou fatores que reconhecidamente facilitam a redução do erro humano. / In this work, agile software development practices are categorized using three aspects: reliability, ESSENCEs areas of concern and guidelines for human error reduction. From this categorization, it was applied to software developers with different levels of expertise a questionnaire with practices related to human factors with the goal of evaluating the interference of the environment on the reliability of the developed software. The questionnaire was answered by 125 developers. For every practice considered the developers were separated in two groups and compared in relation to the perception of certain guidelines. The results show that the use of those agile practices increase factors that help reduce human error.

Computer-based information systems (IS) play an increasingly pervasive and important role in contemporary organisations. Despite decades of continuing research and the development of an extensive prescriptive literature, IS development projects continue to be problematic, with many failing or being seriously challenged. In addition, the IS development environment has changed significantly in recent years, with rapid advances or shifts in technology, increasing devolution of IS responsibility and expenditure to user groups, high levels of packaged software acquisition and customisation, greater outsourcing of IS development, and an increasing emphasis on enterprise-wide and inter-organisational IS. In many cases these changes are interrelated and involve more flexible, ad hoc or non-traditional development approaches. Combined with the fact that at the same time IS have become increasingly sophisticated and integrated, the potential for unpredictable or unintended consequences has also increased. Together, the continued problematic nature of many IS projects and the changing IS development environment, suggest that there is an ongoing need for a fuller understanding of IS development processes and practices. Given the limitations of factor-based, prescriptive studies, an understanding of how contemporary IS development is enacted needs to be grounded in and built upon the cumulative body of research that attempts to understand the complexity and dynamic nature of IS development. Accordingly, this study uses a conceptualisation of IS development as a process in which an IS emerges from a dynamic and interactive relationship between the technology, its social and organisational context, and the negotiated actions of various individuals and groups. The thesis presents the results of an extensive empirical investigation into contemporary ARE development practices based on data collected from New Zealand. The study uses a range of research methods and ultimately develops a sociotechnical process model of IS development as situated action. Following Walsham’s (1993) emphasis on the content, context and process of IS-related organisational change, the methods used in this study are three-fold. First, an extensive literature review is undertaken to provide a comprehensive synthesis of contemporary empirical knowledge about the content of IS development. Second, a survey is used to collect contextual data about IS development and acquisition practices in New Zealand. Finally, these both support an in-depth longitudinal case study of the IS development process in an organisational setting. The literature review synthesises the results of recent empirical studies of the various influences that shape IS development, using a classificatory framework based around actors, project content, IS development processes, and context. The review shows that, while a number of traditional factors influencing IS development continue to be relevant, other factors have emerged as important as a result of changes to the IS development environment and to IS development practice. In particular, increasing recognition within the IS literature has been given to the relative importance of people and process and of the organisational and environmental context in which IS development takes place. The results of the literature review inform the design of a survey instrument intended to provide an updated assessment of IS development and acquisition practices in New Zealand organisations. A Web-based survey was administered to a sample of senior IS managers in 460 public and private sector organisations with 200 or more FTEs. Based on the 106 usable responses, the results of the survey confirm the ongoing relevance of a number of traditional factors identified in the IS literature as facilitating or inhibiting IS development. However, a number of factors were identified as emerging or increasing in relevance in light of changes in the IS development environment. While the survey provides a useful description of contemporary IS development and acquisition practice in New Zealand, it does not enable a detailed understanding of IS development in action. To address this, an IS project in a large New Zealand organisation was followed in action for over two years. The project involved the development of a sophisticated financial database model using a purchased commercial software package and external consultants. As such, it provides a useful exemplar of development in a contemporary IS environment. The case study illustrates how a seemingly small, well-defined project experienced delays and difficulties as might be expected in larger, more complex projects. It offers insights into the significance of external actors, the importance of full stakeholder participation, the influence of initial characterisations of the nature of the project, and the observance of project management processes. Consideration of the project outcome reveals its multi-dimensional, subjective and temporal nature. A process approach (Markus & Robey, 1988) is employed to structure the analysis of the case study. A combination of temporal bracketing, narrative analysis and visual representation is used to analyse the sequence of social action and organisational processes involved in the project and to develop a process explanation of how and why the particular project outcome in this case study developed over time. Underpinning and informing this analysis is the construction and utilisation of a model of IS development as a situated, sociotechnical process. Drawing on theoretical concepts from structuration theory and the sociology of technology, the model considers the situated actions and practices of various individuals and groups involved in IS development, the ways in which these are enacted within different contextual elements, and the role of existing and new technological artefacts in this process. IS development is characterised as iterative and emergent, with change occurring dynamically from a trajectory of situated interactions (in which meanings and actions are negotiated) and intended and unintended consequences. As a whole, this PhD highlights the changing nature of the IS development environment and the way a complex ensemble of ‘factors’ interact to influence IS project outcomes. Common themes emerge around the importance of people and process, and the context in which IS development takes place, while at the same time explicitly including a consideration of technology in the analysis.

Evolving Systems – Engaged Users : Key Principles for Improving Region-wide Health IT AdoptionJanols, Rebecka January 2013 (has links)
Many countries have formulated their eHealth visions and billions of dollars have been spent on supporting the eHealth development throughout the world. An important part of the development is the electronic patient record (EPR). To enable sharing and increase cooperation between care providers, most Swedish county councils have decided to use a region-wide EPR. The health professionals often experience numerous problems and consider the region-wide EPR to be too generic and require them to tailor their practices instead of the system evolving towards supporting their needs. The aim of the PhD research is to gain knowledge of adoption when deploying and using region-wide health IT systems. This is accomplished by studying, analysing and reflecting upon what region-wide health IT systems are and how professionals use them in their practice. In the research a grounded theory method has been used, which means that the empirical data, not theories and hypotheses, have driven the research process. The data-gathering methods have been interviews, observations, participating in meetings, questionnaires, seminars and conducting literature reviews. In order to be able to improve the adoption, a set of four key principles has been identified: (1) Evolving systems-Engaged users, (2) Treat IT deployment and usage as part of organisational development, (3) Identify, respect and support differences, and (4) Identify what must be customised and what can be centralised. These four principles challenge the traditional way of developing enterprise-wide IT and emphasise the importance that users must engage in the development, procurement and deployment process to identify their similar and unique needs and procedures. It is crucial that both the similarities and uniqueness are respected and supported. The similarities can be supported by a centralised, standardised solution, while uniqueness requires a customised solution. In order to accomplish that, the IT deployment and usage needs to be treated as an important part of the on-going organisational development, and the IT systems must evolve, i.e., be continuously developed in order to engage the users to participate.

Uma metodologia que combina mapeamento e análise de processos, elicitação, mapeamento e análise crítica de conhecimentos e análise sociotécnica com base em análise de redes sociais foi concebida. A metodologia foi aplicada à uma pequena organização intensiva conhecimento LNMRI e permitiu a avaliação dos seus principais ativos intelectuais e sua capacidade de evoluir. Nesse sentido, com base em questões reais, tal como a saída de pessoas da organização, foram avaliados os impactos de prováveis cenários futuros. Para tal tarefa, foi analisada uma rede multimodal de processos, objetos de conhecimento e pessoas, utilizando-se um conjunto apropriado de métricas e meios, incluindo a avaliação das esferas de influências de nós chave. Para diferenciar a capacidade das pessoas em desempenhar diferentes papeis nos processos, alguns atributos dos nós foram utilizados como critérios de partição da rede, proporcionando assim, a capacidade de diferenciar o impacto da perda potencial de supervisores e operadores. A metodologia proposta possibilitou: i) a identificação de objetos de conhecimento e de suas fontes; ii) a classificação desses objetos segundo sua relevância; iii) a avaliação de vulnerabilidades da estrutura da rede LNMRI e iv) revelou os mecanismos informais de partilha de conhecimento. A metodologia concebida demonstrou ser uma ferramenta robusta para um amplo diagnóstico para subsidiar o planejamento de sucessão e também o planejamento estratégico organizacional. / A methodology combining process mapping and analysis; knowledge elicitation mapping and critical analysis; and sociotechnical analysis based on social network analysis was conceived. The methodology was applied to a small knowledge intensive organization LNMRI, and has allowed the appraisal of the main intellectual assets and their ability to evolve. In this sense, based on real issues such as attrition, the impacts of probable future scenarios were assessed. For such task, a multimodal network of processes, knowledge objects and people was analyzed using a set of appropriate metrics and means, including sphere of influence of key nodes. To differentiate the ability of peoples role playing in the processes, some nodes attributes were used to provide partition criteria for the network and thus the ability to differentiate the impact of potential loss of supervisors and operators. The proposed methodology has allowed for: i) the identification of knowledge objects and their sources; ii) mapping and ranking of these objects according to their relevance and iii) the assessment of vulnerabilities in LNMRIs network structure and iv) revealing of informal mechanisms of knowledge sharing The conceived methodological framework has proved to be a robust tool for a broad diagnosis to support succession planning and also the organizational strategic planning.

Este trabalho descreve as contribuições da Educação a Distância para a elaboração e efetivação de projetos de educação ambiental, a partir da análise das concepções de meio ambiente e saúde de estudantes dos cursos semipresenciais de formação de professores do Consórcio CEDERJ, no Polo de Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro. Foi realizada pesquisa qualitativa do tipo etnográfica utilizando-se observação participante, análise documental e entrevista semi-estruturada na coleta de dados. O conceito de rede sociotécnica, tal qual proposto por Bruno Latour, fertilizou a análise dos dados de campo e permitiu olhar a Educação Ambiental e a Educação a Distância sob um prisma que questiona a relação sujeito-objeto e o estatuto da ciência como saber hierarquicamente superior. A utilização do aporte teórico da antropologia das ciências e das técnicas evidenciou a indissociabilidade entre atividade cognitiva e fatores sociais e a reunião de elementos de todos os tempos na composição da rede de Educação a Distância brasileira, na qual atuantes humanos e não humanos estão entrelaçados nas ações de ensinar-aprender, constituindo-se num híbrido de naturezas-culturas. / This work describes the contributions of distance education for the development and execution of environmental education projects. It is based on the analysis of the concepts of environment and health of students of teachers training at the Consortium CEDERJ, in the Pole of Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro. Data was collect by means of an ethnographic qualitative study which used participant observation, documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews. The concept of socio-technical network, such as that proposed by Bruno Latour, was used to the analysis of field data. It allowed to look at Environmental Education and at Distance Education in a way that questions the subject-object relation and the status of science as a hierarchically superior knowledge. The use of the anthropology science theory and techniques revealed the inseparability between cognitive activity and social factors. It also revealed the meeting of all times elements in the composition of the Brazilian network of Distance Education, in which human and non-human actors are interwoven with the activities of teaching-learning, being a hybrid of natures-cultures.

Urban Policy Implications on the Electric Vehicle Transition in Berlin and Washington, DCSänger, Tina January 2018 (has links)
This thesis argues for an approach which goes beyond the conventional urban climate governance view. With engagement in social-technical practices, a more sustainable and inclusive way of transforming the city can be accomplished. One way of doing so is with the offering of the urban living lab as a playground for real-life experiments. With a purposive intervention in an urban socio-technical system, the three- dimensional concept of urban environmental governance, socio-technical experiments and strategic experiments with designed policies can create a more sustainable urban transition. The urban electric vehicle transition is just one example of how these three concepts can be applied. In order to demonstrate the interaction of a sustainable urban transition, an empirical case study was conducted. This thesis makes a conceptual contribution by engaging with current understanding of urban sustainability transition, using the urban electric vehicle transition as a reference point. The insights of this study extend the theories of the socio-technical system and argue that it is not only about social and technological innovation but how multiple innovations are experimented with and combined in an existing urban context. In addition, the research addresses how this transition is governed on a municipality level and is achieved through a multiple case study approach, analysed through the lens of environmental governance and offers an empirical exploration and develops the theoretical and conceptual framework of the socio-technical system further.

Análise dos sistemas de trabalho do Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência - SAMU sob a ótica sociotécnicaGerber, Adriano Schaun January 2010 (has links)
Essa dissertação é formada por três artigos que versam sobre o Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência – SAMU, da Região Metropolitana de Porto Alegre. O primeiro artigo analisa a extensão na qual o SAMU opera como um sistema sociotécnico, considerando os 19 princípios propostos por Clegg (2000), tendo ficado claro que o sistema atende a 4, parcialmente a 3 e não atende a 12 deles. O segundo artigo foca o sistema de regulação do SAMU à luz dos quatro subsistemas do sistema sociotécnico: o pessoal, do projeto de trabalho, o tecnológico e do ambiente externo. O método utilizado para análise foi a Análise Macroergonômica do Trabalho – AMT (GUIMARÃES, 2010), que viabilizou a identificação de demanda ergonômica dos envolvidos no sistema, a partir de entrevistas e/ou questionários com 118 pessoas, sendo 41 trabalhadores da regulação e 77 das bases.Os resultados mostraram que os ítens de maior impacto para o desenvolvimento do serviço advém do ambiente externo, principalmente o despreparo da população para o uso do serviço (os trotes chegam a 69% das chamadas) e o risco de omissão de socorro. O terceiro artigo avalia o SAMU como um sistema complexo sob a ótica da Engenharia de Sistemas Cognitivos (ESC), que considera os fatores de coordenação, resiliência e “affordance” que emergem nas interações entre tecnologia e pessoas que compõem um sistema de trabalho. Concluiu-se que o SAMU possui diversas características de um sistema sociotécnico complexo, e que o sistema é descoordenado e clumssy, pois não possui artefatos e procedimentos de trabalho que agilizem o processo de trabalho. As características de resiliência são pró ativas e emergentes, pois os agentes diretos estão em constante adaptação para contornar os obstáculos encontrados no sistema de trabalho. Foram feitas algumas sugestões para melhoria do serviço, que poderão ser efetivadas a longo prazo, tendo em vista as dificuldades impostas pelo ambiente externo (legislação e questões políticas e sócio-culturais). / This dissertation consists of three articles that focus on the Mobile Emergency Service – SAMU of the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre. The first article examines the extent to which the SAMU operates as a sociotechnical system, considering the 19 principles proposed by Clegg (2000), it was clear that the system meets the 4, 3 and partially does not meet 12 of them. The second article focuses on the system of regulation of SAMU in the light of the four subsystems of the socio-technical system: staffing, project work, the technological and the external environment. The method of analysis was the Macroergonomic Work Analysis - MWA (GUIMARÃES, 2010), which enabled the identification of ergonomic demands of those involved in the system, based on interviews and / or questionnaires to 118 people, including 41 employees of regulation and 77 bases. The results showed that the items of greatest impact on service development comes from the external environment, especially the unpreparedness of the population using the service (hazing reach 69% of calls) and the risk of failure to save. The third article assesses the SAMU as a complex system from the perspective of Cognitive Systems Engineering (CSE), which considers the factors of coordination, resilience and "affordance" that emerge in the interactions between technology and people that make a system work. It was concluded that the SAMU has several characteristics of a complex socio-technical system and the system is patchy and clumssy as it has no artifacts and work processes that streamline the work process. The characteristics of resilience are clear, as the direct agents are constantly adapting to bypass the obstacles encountered in the work. There have been some suggestions for improving the service, which could take effect in the long term, in view of the difficulties imposed by the external environment (legislation and policy issues and socio-cultural).

O Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência (SAMU) é o responsável pelo atendimento préhospitalar (APH) realizado no Brasil que é aquele que se desloca para atender as vítimas em casos de urgência-emergência, funciona através de uma rede telefônica e pode ser caracterizado como um sistema complexo por envolver as centrais de regulação e as bases com as ambulâncias. Essa dissertação é formada por dois artigos que versam sobre o SAMU. No primeiro deles o objetivo foi mapear as influências do ambiente externo do SAMU metropolitano de Porto Alegre sob a ótica dos sistemas sociotécnicos. Para tal foi utilizada a análise macroergonômica do trabalho – AMT (GUIMARÃES, 2010) que tornou possível o entendimento da influência do ambiente externo no atendimento da população. Foi destacada na pesquisa a falta de conhecimento da população quanto ao funcionamento do SAMU, o elevado número de trotes, a falta de integração entre os serviços públicos, entre outros. Além disso, dentro da macroergonomia, a percepção dos fatores de riscos a que estão submetidos os trabalhadores é fundamental para que durante o atendimento realizado à população não haja dúvida quanto aos procedimentos seguros a serem adotados, para se evitar que possa ocorrer algum acidente. No segundo artigo foi realizada uma pesquisa identificando a percepção dos trabalhadores quanto aos fatores de risco. Identificou-se que os fatores de riscos como levantamento de peso, esforço físico intenso, calor e contaminação biológica por fluidos corpóreos dos pacientes foram os mais significativos na percepção dos trabalhadores do SAMU. / The Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU) is the responsible for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Brazil. The EMS system is that move to take care of the victims in urgencyemergency cases, it works through a telephonic net and can be characterized by a complex system that involving the central offices of regulation and the bases with the ambulances. This dissertation consists of two articles that focus on the SAMU. In the first article, the objective of the study was to analyze the influences of the external environment of the SAMU of the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre under the optics of the sociotechnical systems. In this study the method of analysis was the Macroergonomic Work Analysis – MWA (GUIMARÂES, 2010) that it made possible to understand the influence of the external environment in the attendance of the population. It was identified in the research: the lack of knowledge of the population on the functioning of the SAMU, the raised number of hoax, the lack of integration between the public services, among others. Besides, in the macroergonomics, the perception of the hazards for the workers is fundamental. Since during the emergency medical service for the population it must not have doubt on the safe procedures to be adopted, to prevent that some accident can occur. Therefore in the second article, a research was carried out to identify the perception of the workers on the hazards. It was identified that the hazards as weight lift, intense physical effort, heat and biological contamination for corporeal fluids of the patients had been those most significant in the perception of the workers of the SAMU.

Com o limite continuamente demarcado entre doping e antidoping, entre o lícito e o ilícito do esporte, os próprios limites do corpo, da natureza e do humano são traçados. Nesta direção desenvolver uma abordagem que descreva os coletivos sociotécnicos articulados a partir e através deste permanente conflito entre doping e antidoping é a via de entrada para uma melhor compreensão das relações entre esporte e tecnologia na atualidade. Seja, na performance atlética, que passa a ser compreendida como uma realidade intrinsecamente heterogênea a partir dos diversos artefatos sociotécnicos, conceituais e materiais envolvidos em sua constituição. Como nos contra investimentos realizados pelas instituições esportivas com o intuito de coibir e detectar as práticas de doping. No intuito de apreender como estas relações complexas produzem diversos dispositivos técnicos e conceituais que atuam nas intersecções entre o esporte profissional e a tecnociência, constituindo novas práticas e saberes sobre o corpo do atleta. Por fim, tensionando o anthropos como figura conceitual, tanto eticamente, questionando o que sabemos e compreendemos como humano, como disciplinarmente, explicitando os limites metodológicos da análise antropológica, quando se estabelece como um empreendimento disciplinar, que visa à compreensão do humano. / This dissertation has as its object the controversies brought from doping and combating its use. With the continuously demarcated boundary between doping and anti-doping, between licit and illicit in sport, the limits of the body nature and the human are traced. In this direction the dissertation develops an approach that describes the pleadings from sociotechnical collectives and through this ongoing conflict between doping and antidoping is the entry pathway to a better understanding of the relationship between sport and technology nowadays. An athletic performance shall be understood as a reality intrinsically heterogeneous composed through the socio-technical relations, conceptual and material involved in its constitution , as in the investments made by the sports institutions in order to curb and detect doping practices. In order to grasp how these complex relationships produce various technical and conceptual devices that operate at the intersections between professional sport and technoscience, building new practices and knowledge about the athlete's body. Finally, tensing the anthropos as a conceptual figure, both ethically questioning what we know and understand as human as disciplinary, highlighting the methodological limits of anthropological analysis, when it happens as disciplinary project, which aims at understanding the Human.
