O predomínio do entretenimento no jornalismo esportivo brasileiro / -

Carlos Henrique de Souza Padeiro 17 September 2015 (has links)
The process of absorption of journalism by the culture industry and the spectacularization of high performance sports have increased the exploration of sport as entertainment inside the media specialized. Originally ludic, the sport activity has become a highly profitable business, in the last three decades, for the federations that organize competitions and for sponsors, including big media companies. The constant flux of images and information over popular teams and athletes makes the society absorb the sport as product of Entertainment Industry. This Master\'s dissertation presents an analysis of Globo Esporte/SP and Caderno de Esportes, the most influential daily sports newscasts at Globo and Esporte Interativo, respectively, to show that these TV programs prioritize the aspects of amusement, to reach large audience. There is not a deeper analysis in issues as politic and economy of sports. The football (results and information - over the most popular players and teams) dominates the news. Rede Globo pays huge sums of money for the rights to broadcast many national and international tournaments, so Globo Esporte is part of a strategy to promote these major events and benefit the communication conglomerate and its commercial partners. Esporte Interativo, a new TV station in growth stage, adopts the same strategy for privileging the events with rights owned by the company. Besides, Esporte Interativo reproduces the agenda of other TV stations, to dispute audience and to attract advertisers. The sports newscasts follow a repetitive model, involving the same themes and persons - players, coaches and directors of football teams and others mediatic modalities. To the public is offered a content for passive consumption, without reflections and discussions to improve the sport. The space to work physical activity as educational way is limited. In a world supported by images, the challenge for the professionals of communication is to enlarge and balance the sport agenda. This debate should start in the academy. The predominance of sporting mega-events, just for entertainment, disrupts journalism as public interest, that should be contributing to the transformation of society over different sector.

Currently seen as something “lighter”, the sports journalism gets more attention by the proximity of major events in Brazil. Therefore, focusing on sports, media companies unfold into strategies for approaching the viewer. A trend that is becoming remarkable, even more representative than before, is the option from the perspective of entertainment and spectacle at the expense of information, which should be the priority from the journalism’s assumed identity. So, the extent to which this identity can recast compromising the quality of information disclosed? Find possible answers to this question is the purpose of this dissertation, whose study object is "Globo Esporte" editions produced in Rio de Janeiro, presented by Alex Escobar and São Paulo, presented by journalist Tiago Leifert, both for Rede Globo. It is the main and only exclusive sports news, aired between Monday and Saturday in the aforementioned Network. Through the methods of content analysis and focus groups, we find elements that indicate the need for adjustments to suit the audience.

To be a man or woman in a Swedish National Team : A quantitative content analysis and qualitative discourse analysis of the Swedish women's and men's national football team in sports journalism

Söderlund, Malin, Strömdahl, Matilda January 2019 (has links)
The sports journalism chose how to produce and allocate the content for the women's and men's Swedish national football teams during a championship. The media mediate an unjustified reality that people perceive as the real reality. They do not reflect the real reality but chose what to mediate and produce. The purpose of the survey is to find out how the gender representation is perceived between the women's and men's national football team during the World and European Championships group play periods in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter. The thesis examines how much attention each national team gets during their championships. Furthermore, we examine what similarities and differences exist in the production of the women's and men's national team. In order to answer the two questions of the study, a combination of two methods is applied. The first question of the study is answered through quantitative content analysis and the second question is answered through a qualitative discourse analysis, which follows up the quantitative method and makes an in-depth analysis of the discourses. The study is based on framing theory, gender theory and media, which indicates that the media possess power in how they allocate and shape their content for men, women and their representations. The results of the survey show that the men's national team is allocated more attention during their championships compared to the women's national team. The result shows that men are over-represented in sports journalism, which confirms the previous research that the study presented. The discourses show that men and women in the national teams are presented differently where the men are usually referred to as a team and a unit while the women are mentioned as individuals and less about the team. The thesis also shows that women are presented in a more negative sense compared to men, where journalism usually takes positive aspects despite adversity for the men. The discourse is also characterized by the fact that the national teams have the same task of representing Sweden but that the women's and men's national team are nevertheless presented differently in that sense. The conclusion is that the Swedish national team is overrepresented in media and that the gender representation distinguishes the national law.

Ström, Jacob, Zetterlund, Gustav January 2023 (has links)
Both Qatar and FIFA have been heavily criticised for the bribes and corruption resulting in Qatar obtaining the FIFA World Cup 2022. Over 6500 migrant workers in Qatar are said to have lost their lives during the construction of new arenas, and the media is an essential part for this being acknowledged. This essay examines and identifies the discourses that are dominating the articles written in the awakening of FIFAs World Cup in Qatar 2022. This will be done through studying the portrayal of Qatar in Dagens Nyheter, the Guardian and Gulf Times. The articles are studied through a narrative analysis method with support from agenda setting, framing and gatekeeping theories. The results show that western media portrays Qatar as unworthy of the world cup, while Qatari media ensures that the country will create the greatest world cup in history. The results suggest that Qatar is guilty of sportswashing through their government-controlled media.

Le journalisme sportif pris au jeu : Sociologie des principes de légitimité professionnelle / Sport journalism caught up in the game : Sociology of professional legitimacy principles

Souanef, Karim 22 November 2013 (has links)
Sport journalists are said to be ‘supporter journalists’. They are supposed to be emotional and then barely closed from the detachment required by professional excellence. This dissertation uses cross materials (archives, interviews, ethnography, and content analysis) to give a broader picture of this occupation. It shows that sport journalism’s history has to do with sport business and the legitimization of a market driven journalism. However, such a market driven conception makes do with - sometimes critical - proximity with its object. Such a mass media conception of the sports news is reproduced via schools of journalism. It is all the more efficient since this schools’ teaching fit the economical reality and students’ expectations toward their future work as a “universe of consolation” to pursue their passion for sport. Sport journalism is still regarded from a legitimist point of view as a low-grade journalism, it occupies nowadays a very central position in the professional hierarchy. Then, once should reconsider dominant norms of journalism. Furthermore, the specialists feels “on their place” as they consider their work as a “universe of consolation” to pursue their passion for sport
