Obraz ženy v reklamě / The portrayal of women in Slovak print media advertising 1992 - 2012.

Gašparová, Dominika January 2013 (has links)
This thesis The Portrayal of women in Slovak print media advertising 1992-2012 addresses the way women are depicted in advertising in three selected Slovak magazines, at three points in time; 1992, 2002 and 2012. The work aims to discover in what direction the portrayal of women in magazine advertisements has evolved during this period when advertising occupies more and more space in the media. This work deals with gender issues and focuses mainly on the roles in which women are represented in advertising. Their passivity or activity and sexual objectification are examined through content and semiotic analysis. The dual mode of analysis will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of the depiction of women in advertising and compare the different ways women are portrayed in the media depending on the target audience.

A imagem do Brasil na Itália: divulgação do patrimônio natural, cultural e antropológico / A imagem do Brasil na Itália: divulgação do patrimônio natural, cultural e antropológico

Caponero, Maria Cristina 13 April 2007 (has links)
This study has an objective to know the Brazils actual image in Italy understood as an expressive content receiver of the communication and influenced by some history, cultural, social, economic and others factors, sighting to obtain the Images reflection of some country and its people by means of the stereotypy created in the readers mint, as a consecrated idea, a scene created far away, mainly derived from reading some texts printed by the Italian media. Starting from the double hypothesis: or, from the point of view of the Italian media, the Brazils Image is negative and not very well valorized to attract a great number of Italian tourist; or the Brazils Image is positive but not very well published by the communication means. To make this analysis a row of textual speeches edited by the press media were collected and checked methodologically, specially some obtained by the catalogues published by the Italian Tour Operator members of the ASTOI Associazione Tour Operator Italiani (Italian Tour Operator Association), the catalogues published by others Italian Tour Operator not members of the ASTOI, some reports published at some Italian specialized tourism magazine, and some others articles of the Italian press media, except some published at the newspapers, it was delimitated for the investigation the period from the beginning of the second semester of 2004 to the end of the first semester of 2006. After this data had been collected and analyzed scientifically, it follows that, as a main result, the Brazils Image that has been published in Italy is extremely positive, the Brazil has been considered as a country owner of an exuberant natural inheritance, divulgated by very beautiful beaches; owner of a diversified cultural inheritance, divulgated by the gastronomy, by the architecture and by the popular festival; owner of a fascinate artistic inheritance, divulgated by the music and by the dance, owner of an anthropological inheritance, divulgated by the happy and festive people, which consist a paradisiacal country, uncontaminated and animate attracting basically people who is interested in entertainment and adventure.

The effects of reinforcement magnitude and session length on stereotypical behavior of an adolescent with autism

Kotsios, Spiro 01 June 2009 (has links)
Functional Analysis is an important component of creating a treatment plan for individuals with autism. A concern of functional analysis is that it might not match the natural environment in which the problem behavior occurs. Dimensions such as varying reinforcement duration and session length may affect response rates during functional analyses in natural settings. This study investigated if varying reinforcement duration and session length during functional analyses would affect the identification of the function of problem behavior across assessors, and the intervention designed based on the functional analyses would be effective in reducing stereotypic behavior and teaching communicative skills of an adolescent with autism at home. An alternating treatment design was used to conduct functional analyses and an ABA design with generalization probes was used to test the effectiveness the function-based intervention. Results indicated that the participant's stereotypic behavior was maintained by automotive reinforcement. The intervention developed based on the function of the stereotypic behavior was found to be effective in reducing the stereotypy and teaching communicative behavior.

Effectiveness of cannabidiol in reducing ketamine-induced schizophrenia-like behaviour in both male and female rats

Collins, Michelle Amber January 2011 (has links)
Schizophrenia is a debilitating and costly mental illness. Many patients do not respond well to currently available treatments, and adverse side effects are common. Cannabidiol (CBD), a natural component of the Cannabis Sativa plant, has been shown to have a number of therapeutic qualities, including potential as a new antipsychotic. Although CBD has been used in several different models of schizophrenia, previous research has failed to consider possible sex differences in responsiveness to the compound. The present research therefore used both male and female rats in the widely used ketamine model of schizophrenia. PVG/C Hooded rats were randomly assigned to one of four experimental conditions: a saline only control group (saline injection followed by second saline injection; N = 6M, 6F); ketamine only group (ketamine injection followed by saline injection; N = 6M, 6F); cannabidiol low dose group (ketamine injection followed by a cannabidiol injection of 10mg/kg; N = 6M, 6F); and a cannabidiol high dose group (ketamine injection followed by a cannabidiol injection of 20mg/kg; N = 6M, 6F). Behavioural testing occurred in a Y-maze and open-field, where both normal and stereotyped behaviours were recorded, as well as locomotor activity and spatial memory. Ketamine successfully induced stereotypy but failed to induce hyperlocomotion. Findings support the potential antipsychotic effects of CBD, particularly for reducing stereotypic behaviour in females. Results found data trends that suggest sex differences in responsiveness to CBD when administered with ketamine, although further research is needed due to lack of statistical significance.

The Image of Italy and Italians in the works by E. M. Forster and Henry James

JEŘÁBKOVÁ, Silvie January 2015 (has links)
For my diploma thesis, I decided to choose "The Image of Italy and Italians in the Works by E. M. Forster and Henry James." I selected this topic because my attitude towards Italy is very positive and also because it seems to me interesting to compare in what way the depiction of Italy and its inhabitants is different and in what way similar at these authors. In the introductory part of my thesis, I describe the role of Italy in the course of history. I mention the significance of this country and also its influence on people who visited it. I explain the important function of Italy during the "travel for improvement" that was a part of young English men´s education first of all in 18th century and that was called the "Grand Tour." I also point out the fact that various Italian towns were perceived in a different way. Prejudices and stereotypes played an important role in the perception of Italy, which I mention at the beginning of my thesis as well. Later on, I explain why the authors including Forster and James set the plots of their works in Italy. I present particular Forster´s and James´s works on this topic and I summarize the most important aspects of their use of Italian setting and characters. The comparison of the representation of Italy and Italians in the works of these authors is the goal of my thesis. At first, I deal in my thesis with E. M. Forster´s relation to Italy and with his works on the Italian topic. I focus on the roles and functions of Italy and on the Italian characters in these works that I subsequently compare. I use the same process at H. James. I similarly describe at first his attitude towards Italy and after that his works, the plot of which is situated in Italy or in which there are some Italian characters. I compare these works once again with the focus on author´s depiction of Italy and its inhabitants. In next part of my thesis, I compare the mentioned works of both authors. I pay attention to the Italian setting and to the presented art, then to the role of Italy in both authors´ works, to similarities and differences of Italian characters, to cultural prejudices, stereotypes and xenophobia in the works, and I also describe to what extent E. M. Forster was inspired by H. James´s works, during which I draw on Forster´s critical work Aspects of the Novel. I confront the information with some critical texts of other authors, as for example with an article by Kevin J. H. Dettmar and a review by Edmund White. At the end of my thesis I analyse film adaptations of Forster´s and James´s works with the Italian topic and I put them in contrast with the original sources, on the grounds of which they were made. I observe during these analyses the similarities and differences in the depiction of Italians and Italy.

Sociální práce z pohledu mužů a žen / Social work from the perspective of men and women

KOLÍNOVÁ, Denisa January 2017 (has links)
The thesis analyzes differences in perception of social work between men and women. It does so on the basis of Encyclopedia of Social Work. The individual chapters of the book are explored within the framework of several current definitions of social work, and two separate conclusions are made for each of them. The first always sums up the way the Encyclopedia treats the subject in and of itself. The second adds a gender perspective and addresses the discrepancies between male and female understanding of the problem. The meaning of contrasts between the individual results is then interpreted in the context of gender and social work as a whole.

Ženy v české politice a názory studentek oboru Výchovy k občanství na politickou angažovanost žen v politice / Women in Czech politics and opinions of female students of Social sciences on women political involvement in politics

ZELENKOVÁ, Aneta January 2013 (has links)
The main objective of my thesis is to outline basic concepts helping to understand the gender issue. Following these finds I want to focus on the concepts of the modern political scene and on the mapping of the theoretical finds and facts regarding the numbers of politically engaged women in Czech politics. A bigger part of this thesis will focus on the research which will consist of two parts. The original assumption consisted of only one research but while writing my thesis I encountered new facts which I wanted to include and that is why I conducted two researches. The topic of the thesis is the question of gender division of roles in the political sphere in the Czech Republic. Based on the introductory theoretical description of development of the emancipation movement striving for active participation of women in modern democratic politics and characterization of the situation in the Czech society, a research into the division of roles between men and women will be conducted. An attempt to state the reasons why there are less women in politics nowadays will be based on active cooperation with PF JCU students through information gained from questionnaire survey. The anticipated conclusion will be a summary of all finds and an attempt to suggest a solution to reach an optimal state in Czech politics.

Potravní enrichment u vybraných zástupců čeledi Felidae / Feeding enrichment in selected Felids

PINTOVÁ, Radka January 2014 (has links)
Environmental enrichment and welfare are important elements for animals in captivity. This study starts with general introduction in breeding animals in zoos and environmental enrichment for important taxonomic groups. The practical part is following with a research on effect of food on frequency of stereotypic behavior. The theoretical assumption says that the different time of eating the food leads to different behavior. Long-term observation was done to confirm the theory. Eight animals belonging in three species were observed in time of feeding, eight types of food were given. The behavior at the time of feeding and after was evaluated by ethogram. General trends in time used for feeding were confirmed (the shortest time for chicken and opposite the longest for head of a goat). The evaluation of stereotypic behavior mainly showed the individuality of each animal. However, servals exhibit most of this pattern. The relationship between stereotypes and time of feeding was insignificant. Generally most of the results were statistically insignificant because of low number of repetition in the dataset.

Zobrazení genderové nerovnosti v lifestylových časopisech pro muže / Representation of Gender Inequality in Czech Lifestyle Magazines for Men

Jacobs, Diana January 2018 (has links)
The thesis focuses on representation of gender inequality in Czech lifestyle magazines for men. The main research question explores the ways in which men's magazines represent the issues of gender inequality. The research method used in this thesis is qualitative content analysis by Anselm Strauss and Juliet Corbin. The sample contains selected articles from Czech versions of the men's magazines Maxim and Esquire, covering all of 2016. The open coding process enabled labeling of the analyzed phenomena, discovering the prominent categories and their dimensions. Axial coding resulted in the reorganization of the categories, which emerged during open coding, by exploring the relationships between the categories and making connections between them. Selective coding identified the central phenomenon of the research. Male Dominance emerged as the core category, integrating the other categories - Manifestations of Gender Inequality, Men's Fear of Gender Equality and Partial Refutation of the Masculine Perspective - around the central phenomenon. The theories used as the sources of the enhancement of theoretical sensitivity are explored and presented in the theoretical part of this thesis. The research concludes that the analyzed lifestyle magazines for men spread negative gender stereotypes and...
