Sobre duas rodas: emoções e consumo no motociclismo / On two wheels: emotions and consumption in motorcyclingCarlos Costa Rodrigues Luz 12 May 2009 (has links)

Previous issue date: 2015-12-01 / The purpose of this research is to analyze, from the stand point of criminology, the sociocultural and criminal characteristics from the tripoint of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina more precisely, Foz do Iguaçu, state of Paraná. This study is developed with the aid of criminology matrices according to the theory of delinquent subculture, which Albert Kircidel Cohen created from observing juvenile delinquency in the United States of America during 1950 and 1960, and through the concept of criminal subjection, introduced by Michel Misse, sociologist and lecturer at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Firstly, the research introduced numerical aspects and reasoning about violence at the tripoint, followed by the theoretical matrices of delinquent subculture are explored, referring to the creation of labor and psychosocial logic exclusive to Foz do Iguaçu s tripoint. Part of the analysis amplifies a series of violence incidents homicide in the north region of the city, more specifically the neighborhood of Porto Belo, identifying the dynamics and sociological and criminal perceptions that worship illegality and smuggling as driving forces of local reality. Finally, social discourse are investigated, among which the media and how they absorb a reproduce labor and psychosocial logics with the aid of carnavalization from the studies of the Russian philosopher Mikhail Mikhailovich Bakhtin and feedback or subcultural continuity. To conclude, the prospects of specific concepts of the tripoint socio-cultural reality are used to create potential criminology matrices of a delinquent subculture theory for frontiers with self-criticism, moreover, the role of state agents.

The authentic punk : an ethnography of DiY music ethicsGordon, Alastair Robert January 2005 (has links)
This thesis examines how select participants came to be involved in DiY punk culture, what they do in it, and how, if they do, they exit from the culture. Underpinning this will be an ethnographic examination of how the ethics of punk informs their views of remaining authentic and what they consider to be a sell out and betrayal of these values. I illustrate how such ethics have evolved and how they inform the daily practice of two chosen DiY punk communities in Leeds and Bradford. I show how these communities reciprocally relate to each other. I ask such questions as what do the participants get out of what is often experienced as hard work and toil, particularly where it is fraught with a series of dilemmas bound up in politics, ethics, identity and integrity. I offer a grounded theory of how and what ways those involved in DiY punk authenticate themselves in their actions. This will demonstrate how and, more importantly, why DiY punks distinguish their ethical version of punk over and above what are taken as less favourable forms of punk. What happens if previous passionately held DiY beliefs are surrendered? Severe consequences follow should a participant sell out. I present an account of these and suggest that what they involve is not the clear-cut question that is sometimes assumed, either sincerely or selfrighteously.

A national strategy towards cultivating a cybersecurity culture in South AfricaGcaza, Noluxolo January 2017 (has links)
In modern society, cyberspace is interwoven into the daily lives of many. Cyberspace is increasingly redefining how people communicate as well as gain access to and share information. Technology has transformed the way the business world operates by introducing new ways of trading goods and services whilst bolstering traditional business methods. It has also altered the way nations govern. Thus individuals, organisations and nations are relying on this technology to perform significant functions. Alongside the positive innovations afforded by cyberspace, however, those who use it are exposed to a variety of risks. Cyberspace is beset by criminal activities such as cybercrime, fraud, identity theft to name but a few. Nonetheless, the negative impact of these cyber threats does not outweigh the advantages of cyberspace. In light of such threats, there is a call for all entities that reap the benefits of online services to institute cybersecurity. As such, cybersecurity is a necessity for individuals, organisations and nations alike. In practice, cybersecurity focuses on preventing and mitigating certain security risks that might compromise the security of relevant assets. For a long time, technology-centred measures have been deemed the most significant solution for mitigating such risks. However, after a legacy of unsuccessful technological efforts, it became clear that such solutions in isolation are insufficient to mitigate all cyber-related risks. This is mainly due to the role that humans play in the security process, that is, the human factor. In isolation, technology-centred measures tend to fail to counter the human factor because of the perception among many users that security measures are an obstacle and consequently a waste of time. This user perception can be credited to the perceived difficulty of the security measure, as well as apparent mistrust and misinterpretation of the measure. Hence, cybersecurity necessitates the development of a solution that encourages acceptable user behaviour in the reality of cyberspace. The cultivation of a cybersecurity culture is thus regarded as the best approach for addressing the human factors that weaken the cybersecurity chain. While the role of culture in pursuing cybersecurity is well appreciated, research focusing on defining and measuring cybersecurity culture is still in its infancy. Furthermore, studies have shown that there are no widely accepted key concepts that delimit a cybersecurity culture. However, the notion that such a culture is not well-delineated has not prevented national governments from pursuing a culture in which all citizens behave in a way that promotes cybersecurity. As a result, many countries now offer national cybersecurity campaigns to foster a culture of cybersecurity at a national level. South Africa is among the nations that have identified cultivating a culture of cybersecurity as a strategic priority. However, there is an apparent lack of a practical plan to cultivate such a cybersecurity culture in South Africa. Thus, this study sought firstly to confirm from the existing body of knowledge that cybersecurity culture is indeed ill-defined and, secondly, to delineate what constitutes a national cybersecurity culture. Finally, and primarily, it sought to devise a national strategy that would assist SA in fulfilling its objective of cultivating a culture of cybersecurity on a national level.

Who are the skinheads ? Are they just these brainless, violent, xenophobic and racist bullies, who are sooften exposed in the media ? What about the very first skinheads who, near the end of the 1960s, were sofond of Jamaican music that they contributed to its spreading and success all over England ? What happenedbetween the 1960s and the 1980s, when the nazi skinhead phenomenon appeared ? Is there only one skinheadmovement or is it made up of many trends ? What makes the skinheads a group as a unified whole, beyondits divisions ?To answer these questions, the first part of this thesis will provide a background history of the skinheadmovement so as to follow, and understand, its evolution since its origins. It will emphasise on the role playedby music on both its successive mutations and its political drift. In a second part, it will analysed the variouselements which constitute the skinhead subculture - from its constant reference to the working-class displayedthrough its stylistic forms, its link to symbolic or actual violence, and the values it claims to embody andfight for – to its ideological consequences. The last part will be dedicated to fieldwork carried out mainlyin France and which will show, thanks to interviews and observations, how the skinhead community lives, organises and sees itself. The purpose of this study is not only to reveal the skinhead movement in its various forms but also todemonstrate what this stylistic social phenomenon, can reveal in terms of radicalisation, media coverageand demonization.
