Novotná, Vendula January 2015 (has links)
SUMMARY: This work deals with the learners' use of English learning strategies of lower secondary school from Základní škola Botičská and Lauderovy školy, Prague. It discusses the teachers' support of these strategies and represents self-evaluation reports of both schools. The theoretical part defines the concept of self-evaluation in the school environment, describes the strategy of foreign language learning in terms of their importance, inclusion, application in teaching environment and especially their classifications. The practical part contains the results of the self-evaluation reports of Lauderovy školy and ZŠ Botičská, comparison of these results and comparison with the results of the Czech Republic. It also suggests possible follow-ups and recommendations for teachers that are established on the self-evaluations results. The work is based on a questionnaire "Strategy of foreign language learning", which is based on the original English version "Young learners'Language Strategy Use Survey" from A. D. Cohen and R. L. Oxford.

Učebnice anglického jazyka jako možný zdroj inspirace pro výuku českého jazyka na středních školách / English Language Textbooks as a Possible Source of Inspiration for Teaching the Czech Language at Secondary School

Kábelová, Tereza January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis English Language Textbooks as a Possible Source of Inspiration for Teaching the Czech Language at Secondary Schools deals with the design of lessons for teaching Czech language based on the inspiration of English textbooks. The work is based on theoretical knowledge concerning current trends in Czech language didactics (constructivism and its three-phase PPP model including work with students' preconceptions, development of conscious use of the language system, content reduction and content-focused approach). The fundamental starting point is represented by the communicative goals of language teaching as well as on the integration of the language curriculum and the communicative (and literary) components. The practical part of the thesis comprises suggestions for Czech language lessons based on the inspiration from English textbooks, and its basis is a content analysis of three topics (phrasemes and idioms, grammatical voice of verbs, and means of textual continuity) in Czech and English language textbooks for secondary schools. It also includes a complementary quantitative questionnaire survey on the perception of Czech language textbooks by secondary school students (not focusing on grammar schools). In addition to the content analysis, the proposed lessons reflect both the...

Les erreurs écrites en espagnol L2 en contexte universitaire français : analyse et remédiation / Written errors in Spanish as a second language in the French university system : analysis and remediation / Los errores escritos en espagnol lengua segunda en contexto universitario francés : análisis y remediación

Galiza, Lorena Inès 22 March 2018 (has links)
This work is about error analysis in Spanish as a second language and is aimed at improving language teaching to non-native learners in the French university system. Based on the study of a corpus of supervised written productions in Spanish from French-speaking specialist students in French universities, we analysed grammatical errors in Spanish in order to create an original typology. By focusing on the lexicon and the spelling, the lexicon and the semantics as well as lexical and morphological typologies of errors, this analysis allowed us to produce a work of etiology, mostly based on the errors of interference and negative transfer caused by the foreign languages already known to our students. So as to help the students deal with these errors and help them improve at their linguistic – and also multilingual – competences, we made didactic suggestions taking into account the goals and skills expected from students necessary to reach the B1 level of CECRL.

Factors contributing to the neglect and abuse of foster children : social workers’ perspectives and suggestions

Masha, Rankwe Reuben 06 August 2020 (has links)
The child protection system includes foster care. Yet some foster children are neglected, physically or emotionally abused and are used to obtain Foster Care Grants. The essence of this study is to develop a thorough and comprehensive understanding from the frame of reference of social workers on the factors that contribute to the neglect and abuse of foster children as well as their suggestions about possible interventions. The qualitative research approach was applied. The researcher utilised purposive sampling to select social workers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather information and data was analysed. It is clear from the findings that the foster care system needs to be reviewed to minimise or stop neglect and abuse of foster children. / Social Work / M.A. (Social Work)

Hypnotic Suggestions: Their Nature and Applicability in Studying Executive Functions

Zahedi, Anoushiravan 30 July 2021 (has links)
Executive functions (EF) are a group of top-down processes used in novel situations to develop or adapt existing responses to the task at hand. Even though EFs are studied exhaustively, several important questions remain unanswered: (a) Are EFs entirely separated, or do they rely on a common system? (b) What do different versions of the Stroop task measure? (c) Does inhibition always need to be effortful? To address these questions, I investigated neurocognitive correlates of EFs and their enhancements by means of posthypnotic suggestions (PHS) and event-related potentials (ERP). However, before one can use PHSs, it must be elucidated whether and how they affect EFs. Although PHSs are used repeatedly for improving inhibition, it is unclear whether their effects are mediated by bottom-up or top-down processes. By using an updating task, I showed that effects of PHSs can be attributed to top-down processes. Accordingly, a new theory of hypnosis was proposed and empirically tested by modeling hypnotizability scores with structural equation modeling. In short, the simulation-adaption theory suggests that several top-down processes are employed for responding to suggestions. After elucidating the driving mechanism of PHSs is mentally practicing a novel strategy, PHSs were used for addressing the questions regarding EFs. Summarizing (a) the psychometric and ERP results from several studies indicated that different EFs rely on both function-specific and shared neurocognitive processes. (b) Even though different versions of the Stroop task are tapping into inhibition, the vocal compared to the manual version has at least an extra response-production-related locus of interference. (c) Using PHSs for increasing preferences for low-calorie food items, it is shown that resolve is effortful to implement, as indicated by increased P300 amplitudes. Together, this project shows how PHSs, along with neuroimaging techniques, can provide a novel approach for investigating EFs.
