Locally Nilpotent Derivations on Polynomial Rings in Two Variables over a Field of Characteristic Zero.

Nyobe Likeng, Samuel Aristide January 2017 (has links)
The main goal of this thesis is to present the theory of Locally Nilpotent Derivations and to show how it can be used to investigate the structure of the polynomial ring in two variables k[X;Y] over a field k of characteristic zero. The thesis gives a com- plete proof of Rentschler's Theorem, which describes all locally nilpotent derivations of k[X;Y]. Then we present Rentschler's proof of Jung's Theorem, which partially describes the group of automorphisms of k[X;Y]. Finally, we present the proof of the Structure Theorem for the group of automorphisms of k[X;Y].

Troedsson, Andreas January 2017 (has links)

DEFINABLE TOPOLOGICAL SPACES IN O-MINIMAL STRUCTURES

Pablo J Andujar Guerrero (11205846) 29 July 2021 (has links)
<div>We further the research in o-minimal topology by studying in full generality definable topological spaces in o-minimal structures. These are topological spaces $(X, \tau)$, where $X$ is a definable set in an o-minimal structure and the topology $\tau$ has a basis that is (uniformly) definable. Examples include the canonical o-minimal "euclidean" topology, “definable spaces” in the sense of van den Dries [17], definable metric spaces [49], as well as generalizations of classical non-metrizable topological spaces such as the Split Interval and the Alexandrov Double Circle.</div><div><br></div><div>We develop a usable topological framework in our setting by introducing definable analogues of classical topological properties such as separability, compactness and metrizability. We characterize these notions, showing in particular that, whenever the underlying o-minimal structure expands $(\mathbb{R},<)$, definable separability and compactness are equivalent to their classical counterparts, and a similar weaker result for definable metrizability. We prove the equivalence of definable compactness and various other properties in terms of definable curves and types. We show that definable topological spaces in o-minimal expansions of ordered groups and fields have properties akin to first countability. Along the way we study o-minimal definable directed sets and types. We prove a density result for o-minimal types, and provide an elementary proof within o-minimality of a statement related to the known connection between dividing and definable types in o-minimal theories.</div><div><br></div><div>We prove classification and universality results for one-dimensional definable topological spaces, showing that these can be largely described in terms of a few canonical examples. We derive in particular that the three element basis conjecture of Gruenhage [25] holds for all infinite Hausdorff definable topological spaces in o-minimal structures expanding $(\mathbb{R},<)$, i.e. any such space has a definable copy of an interval with the euclidean, discrete or lower limit topology.</div><div><br></div><div>A definable topological space is affine if it is definably homeomorphic to a euclidean space. We prove affineness results in o-minimal expansions of ordered fields. This includes a result for Hausdorff one-dimensional definable topological spaces. We give two new proofs of an affineness theorem of Walsberg [49] for definable metric spaces. We also prove an affineness result for definable topological spaces of any dimension that are Tychonoff in a definable</div><div>sense, and derive that a large class of locally affine definable topological spaces are affine.</div>

Walking Backwards Into The Future

Norman, Camille 01 January 2011 (has links)
Recent artists like Norwegian Recycling and E-603 have created a new genre of art within music: digital recycling. These artists take many different well-known and less-known lyrics, music, and spoken word and combine them together. This meshing of multiple pieces of art has new historical roots. The different images, auditory and visual, that these creations produce and often enhance meaning and connections through popular media. These connections interest me most. Through the lenses of post-colonial, gender, and queer theories, I examine Witi Ihimaera's creative work. I splice in different theorists' words, my own thoughts, and images to enhance and accent Ihimaera‘s ―Singing Word‖ (Juniper Ellis 170). According to Ihimaera, the written word and the ―novel is alien to the indigenous form, and that where Maori are going now is probably where it‘s most natural, and that is into theatre or into poetry…and oral storytelling‖ (Ihimaera 170). As the first published playwright in New Zealand and as an English professor at the University of Auckland, Witi Ihimaera is a role model and leader to many other Maori and New Zealand playwrights and writers. I am most interested in understanding what and how he has been influenced as an artist. I craft a document that extends the idea of a written word in a Maori context, in which I explore the major influences on Ihimaera as a theatrical creator and influencer of other Maori artists. Chapter one introduces Witi Ihimaera and my methods. Chapter two includes my research on the Maori culture with the following subsections: the people, their traditions, and their paternal systems of power. Chapter three is my research on the influx of Pakeha authority highlighting the Mormon take over and how that affected author and playwright Witi Ihimaera. iv Chapter four is my research on how Ihimaera‘s homosexuality has influenced his creations and the contemporary Maori Performance. Chapter five contains my conclusions of the connections I find. In addition, I use examples from Witi Ihimaera‘s fictional novel The Uncles Story, as well as many other of his plays and novels, to show examples of influences from Maori culture, Mormonism, and his homosexuality on Ihimaera‘s work.

Grävlingar : En studie om grävlingar i fångenskap, deras naturliga beteenden och fysiologi / Badgers : A study about badgers in captivity, their natural behavior and physiology

Jonsson, Inga-Lill January 2003 (has links)

Kinetic Studies For The Production Of Tertiary Ethers Used As Gasoline Additives

Boz, Nezahat 01 June 2004 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT KINETIC STUDIES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF TERTIARY ETHERS USED AS GASOLINE ADDITIVES Boz, Nezahat Ph. D., Department of Chemical Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Timur Dogu Co-supervisor: Prof. Dr. G&uuml / lSen Dogu June 2004, 174 pages In the present study, the kinetics studies for etherification reactions were investigated in detail. In the first phase of present study, different acidic resin catalysts were prepared by the heat treatment of Amberlyst-15 catalysts at 220&deg / C at different durations of time and also by the synthesis of sulfonated styrene divinylbenzene cross-linked resins at different conditions. A linear dependence of reaction rate on hydrogen ion-exchange capacity was in 2M2B+ethanol reaction. However, in the case of 2M1B+ethanol reaction hydrogen ion-exchange capacities over 2.8 meq.H+/g did not cause further increase in reaction rate, which was concluded to be majorly due to significance of diffusional resistances. DRIFTS experiments carried out with alcohols, isobutylene, isoamylenes and TAME (tert-amyl-methyl-ether) in a temperature range of 333-353 K supported a Langmuir-Hinshelwood type reaction mechanism involving adsorbed isoolefins molecules forming a bridged structure between &ndash / SO3H sites of the catalyst and adsorbed alcohol molecules. A rate expression derived basing on the mechanism proposed from the DRIFTS results gave good agreement with the published data. Reaction rate was found to give a sharp maximum at ethanol activity of around 0.1. The third phase of this work included evaluation of effective diffusivities and adsorption equilibrium constants of methanol, ethanol and 2M2B, in Amberlyst-15 from moment analysis of batch adsorber dynamic results. Models proposed for monodisperse and bidisperse pore structures were used for the evaluation of effective diffusivities. It was shown that surface diffusion contribution was quite significant. In the last phase of the work, a batch Reflux-Recycle-Reactor (RRR) was proposed, modeled and constructed to achieve high yields and selectivities in equilibrium limited reactions. The batch reflux recycle reactor was modeled by assuming plug flow in the reactor section, perfect mixing in the reboiler and vapor-liquid equilibria between the liquid in the reboiler and reactor inlet stream. In this system conversion values of isoamylenes reaching to 0.91 were achieved at 82&deg / C with almost 100% selectivity. Such conversion values were shown to be much higher than the corresponding equilibrium values that could be obtained in vapor phase fixed bed reactors. The activation energies evaluated in this system were found to be much less than the activation energies evaluated in the fixed bed reactor studies. This was concluded to be majorly due to the significance of transport resistant in the batch Reflux-Recycle-Reactor in which catalyst particles are partially wet. As a result of catalyst development, characterization, kinetic and reactor development studies carried out in this study, it was concluded that tert-amyl-ethyl-ether (TAEE) could be effectively produced and used as a gasoline blending oxygenate.

This dissertation consists of an ethnography on the relationship between humans and animals in Rio Grande do Sul pampa having as reference the established interaction between the trainers and the horses in the taming. This relationship builds the technique itself, the pastoral labors, and the way of life. The trainer is the artifice who has the ability of techniques of teaching horses to activities related to jobs involving extensive livestock farming. It is a knowledge / make consists of different moments in which trigger the use of certain artifacts, establishing an interaction where the horse learns ways to communicate with the human. These sets of techniques are classifieds according to the degree of violence undertaken to tame the horse, although, according to the interlocutors, each handler has its technical choices that are useds according to the established relationship with the horse. For trainers, the "horse is equal to man, has temper", where some are tame, others are "velhacos", i.e., rebels and others are "baldosos", characterized as treacherous animals. In addition, the taming process are taken into account the varying degrees of assimilation of the teachings of each horse and learning is an ongoing process that needs to be always practicing the animal for this " not lose doma " , that is, forget We have learned. Consequently, in the process is established an interaction between human and nonhuman where the trainer teaches the horse, and this, in turn, teaches the skill of execution of techniques, making him experience different ways of practicing such knowledge / make. Therefore, the ethnographic work establishes a discussion about learning both as trainers of horses is through a continuing incorporation of skills constituted on experience and experiences of inhabiting the world of pastoral read and of life.

Formes modérément ramifiées de polydisques fermés et de dentelles / Tamely ramified forms of closed polydiscs and laces

Chapuis, Marc 14 December 2017 (has links)
Let $k$ be a complete non-Archimedean field, $L$ a finite tamely ramified galoisian extension of $k$ and $X$ a $k$-analytic space. We show that $X$ is isomorphic to a closed $k$-polydisc (resp. a $k$-lace) if and only if $X_L$ is isomorphic to a closed $L$-polydisc (resp. a $L$-lace) on which the action of $\Gal(L/k)$ is reasonable. We show that $X$ is isomorphic to a closed $k$-bidisc if and only if $X_L$ is isomorphic to a closed $k$-bidisc. In the formalism of graduated algebra : we calculate the first pointed cohomology set of the general linear group and of the automorphisms of the plane.
