Att främja elevers teoretiska utforskande av bassystemet : En undervisningsutvecklande studie i matematik på mellanstadietBjörk, Marie January 2023 (has links)
Den här licentiatuppsatsen handlar om hur en undervisning kan främja elevers förståelse av tiobassystemet genom att de bjuds in till en undervisning där de kan delta i ett kollektivt utforskande av bassystemet, som en övergripande nivå av tiobassystemet. Syftet är att exemplifiera och diskutera hur en undervisning, som främjar elevernas möjligheter att utveckla ett tänkande om tiobassystemet på en generell eller övergripande nivå, kan utformas. Vidare är syftet att studera vad i en undervisning, designad enligt principerna för lärandeverksamhet, som kan förstås som förebyggande i specialpedagogisk mening. Studien bygger på resultatet av två artiklar med följande frågeställningar: 1) Vilka aspekter i uppgifternas utformning och genomförande främjar elevers möjligheter att pröva relationen mellan olika bastal och övergång till successivt större respektive mindre talenheter? 2) Vad i elevernas resonemang och arbete med speciellt designade uppgifter kan ses som tecken på teoretiskt tänkande om bassystemet? Learning study har använts som forskningsramverk och genererat data för uppsatsens två artiklar. Learning studyn genomfördes i årskurs 4, tillsammans med tre matematiklärare. Design och analys är inspirerad av El’konins och Davydovs matematiska program och några principer från lärandeverksamhet. Analysen i de bägge artiklarna är genomförd med stöd av teoretiska principer för lärandeverksamhet. Datamaterialet består av videoinspelningar från tre lektioner (totalt cirka 420 minuter), transkriptioner och datasammanställningar av uppgifter, transkriptioner och anteckningar från utvärderingarna i det iterativa arbetet med lektionerna. Resultatet består av tre aspekter som behöver synliggöras genom uppgifternas utformning och genomförande för att eleverna ska kunna arbeta teoretiskt med bassystemets struktur: (1) Bastalet, (2) Tal som mätetal, och (3) Talenheternas representationer. Eleverna behöver urskilja aspekterna för att kunna identifiera att det fattas en lämplig talenhet och för att kunna pröva och reflektera över relationen mellan bastalet och övergången till successivt större respektive mindre talenheter i olika baser. Resultatet består också av ett antal exempel på tecken på teoretiskt tänkande inom tre identifierade kategorier: 1) basens funktion för det värde som siffrorna anger i talet, 2) positionsväxling, och (3 entalet som ett av en kvantitet. I analysen har Davydovs definition av teoretiskt tänkande, som något som kan komma till uttryck i form av teoretisk reflektion, analys och planering samt reproduktion av grundläggande principer för ett specifikt ämnesinnehåll, använts. Resultatet ger ett bidrag till den matematikdidaktiska forskningen och till den specialpedagogiska forskningen med inriktning mot matematik genom beskrivningar av de tre aspekterna och av tecken på teoretiskt tänkande. Vidare kan beskrivningarna av uppgifternas utformning och genomförande användas i undervisning och i fortsatta studier. I diskussionen behandlas hur en undervisning kan utformas som främjar elevernas möjligheter att utveckla ett teoretiskt tänkande om bassystemet. Diskussionen behandlar också vad i en undervisning designad enligt principerna för lärandeverksamhet som kan förstås som förebyggande i specialpedagogisk mening genom att skapa möjligheter för elever att redan tidigt i grundskolan kollektivt utforska och förstå hela positionssystemet som en struktur. Slutligen diskuteras implikationer för specialundervisning och studiens bidrag. / The subject of this licentiate thesis is about how a teaching can promote students' understanding of the base-ten system by inviting them to a teaching where they can collectively explore the base system, as an overall level of the base-ten system. The aim is to exemplify and discuss how teaching, which affords students opportunities to develop thinking about the base-ten system on a general or overall level, can be designed. Furthermore, the aim is to study teaching designed according to the principles of learning activity in terms of how it can be preventive from a special pedagogical perspective. The study is based on the results of two articles with the following questions: 1) Which aspects in the design and implementation of the tasks afford students opportunities to explore the relationship between different base numbers and the transition to successively larger and smaller number units? 2) What in the students' reasoning and work with specially designed tasks can be seen as signs of theoretical thinking about the base system? Learning study has been used as a research framework and generated data for the two articles. The learning study was carried out in year 4, together with three mathematics teachers. Design and analysis are inspired by El’konin’s and Davydov’s mathematical program and some principles from learning activity. The theoretical principles for learning activity were used as tools for analysis. Data consists of video recordings from three lessons (in total approximately 420 minutes), transcriptions and data compilations of tasks, transcriptions, and notes from the evaluations in the iterative work with the lessons. The results consist of three aspects that need to be made visible through the design and implementation of the tasks so that the students can work theoretically with the structure of the base system: (1) The base number, (2) Number as a measurement number, and (3) The representations of the number units. The students need to distinguish the aspects in order to discern that a bigger or smaller number unit is missing and to test and reflect on the relationship between the base number and the transition to successively larger and smaller number units, constructed in different bases. The result also includes several examples of signs of emerging theoretical thinking within three identified categories: 1) the bases function to the digits´ value in the number, 2) position switching, and (3) the unit as one of a quantity. In the analysis, Davydov's definition of theoretical thinking, as something that can be expressed in the form of theoretical reflection, analysis, and planning as well as the reproduction of fundamental principles for specific subject content, has been used. The results contribute to mathematics didactic research and to special educational research with a focus on mathematics through descriptions of the three aspects and signs of theoretical thinking. Further the descriptions of how tasks can be designed and carried out be used in teaching and continued research. The discussion deals with how teaching can be designed that afford student opportunities to develop theoretical thinking about the base system. The discussion also deals with what in a teaching designed according to the principles of learning activity can be understood as preventive in a special pedagogical perspective, by creating opportunities for students to collectively explore and understand the entire position system as a structure already early in elementary school. La continuité a un statut compliqué pour Deleuze et Leibniz. Chez Leibniz, la continuité est omniprésente dans ses mathématiques et sa métaphysique, mais il est aussi le théoricien de l'individualité absolue des monades, qui peuvent être interprétées comme des discontinuités irréductibles. Chez Deleuze, le champ Idéal est parfois considéré comme une continuité, mais il se caractérise aussi par une affirmation de divergence (et d'incompossibilité), qui pourrait impliquer une sorte de discontinuité dans l'ordre virtuel. Cette étude aborde ce problème chez les deux penseurs et révèle le rôle de la continuité dans leur métaphysique. En effet, un concept deleuzien de continuité est reconstitué en explorant Le pli, Différence et répétition, et Logique du sens. Il est montré comment la continuité (chez les deux penseurs), en tant que concept mathématique, se transforme en une notion métaphysique indispensable à la philosophie de l'événement de Deleuze.
Cette recherche développe les nuances conceptuelles d'une notion deleuzienne de continuité et identifie ses différents types, à savoir la continuité divergente, la continuité intensive, la continuité torsionnelle et la continuité ten(or)sionnelle. Cette analyse permet de mettre au premier plan la correspondance architectonique de la métaphysique de Deleuze dans ces trois livres, une architecture empreinte de continuité et de pli. / Continuity has a complicated status for Deleuze and Leibniz. For Leibniz, continuity is prevalent in his mathematics and metaphysics, but he is also known to be the theoretician of the absolute individuality of monads, which can be interpreted as irreducible discontinuities. For Deleuze, the Ideal field is sometimes regarded as continuity, but it is also characterized by an affirmation of divergence (and incompossibility), which might imply a kind of discontinuity in the virtual order. This study engages with this problem in both thinkers and discloses the role of continuity in their metaphysics. Indeed, a Deleuzian concept of continuity is reconstituted while exploring The Fold, Difference and Repetition, and Logic of Sense. It is shown how continuity (in both thinkers), as a mathematical concept, turns into a metaphysical notion that is indispensable for Deleuze’s philosophy of event.
This research unfolds the conceptual nuances of a Deleuzian notion of continuity and identifies its different types, namely, divergent continuity, intensive continuity, torsional continuity, and ten(or)sional continuity. This analysis allows us to foreground the architectonic correspondence of Deleuze's metaphysics in these three books, an architecture imbued with continuity and fold.

Adapting and validating the Strengths Use and Deficit Improvement Questionnaire for educators in Gauteng / Rachele PaverPaver, Rachele January 2014 (has links)
Education is essential in providing future human capital that is much needed to build a sustainable, competitive economy. However, the importance of a quality education is often underestimated. In order to enhance working conditions of educators, it seems essential to investigate the role of the positive psychology paradigm by means of developing teachers’ areas of deficiencies and capitalising on their strengths in order for them to reach their full potential and flourish. The current study aimed to adapt and validate the recently developed Strengths Use and Deficit Improvement Questionnaire (SUDIQ) in an attempt to make it suitable for educators.
The general objective of this research study was to establish the psychometric properties of the SUDIQ by means of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), convergent, discriminant and empirical validity. A cross-sectional field survey design and a convenience sample of educators from several educational institutions in the Gauteng Province (N = 502) was utilised to gather the data. CFA was used to test the factorial validity of the adapted SUDIQ scale. In order to prove convergent and discriminant validity, the relationships between the SUDIQ dimensions and similar theoretical constructs (job resources, strengths use, psychological capital, proactive behaviour and person-job fit) as well as constructs postulated to be unrelated to the SUDIQ dimensions (age and education) were determined. Finally, the relationship between the SUDIQ dimensions with vigour, dedication, emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation was determined by using multiple regression analysis.
The results confirmed that the SUDIQ comprised a four-factor structure. These four factors were perceived organisational support for strengths use, perceived organisational support for deficit improvement, proactive behaviour towards strengths use and proactive behaviour towards deficits improvement. These dimensions were positively related to the scales such as the strengths use scale, autonomy, supervisor and colleague support, psychological capital, proactive behaviour, and person-job fit. Anticipated perceived organisational support for deficit improvement and proactive behaviour towards strengths use and proactive behaviour towards deficit improvement were unrelated to age. The scales were also relatively weakly related to education. Furthermore, the results revealed that perceived organisational support for strengths use, proactive behaviour towards strengths use and proactive behaviour towards deficit improvement were significant predictors of both vigour and dedication. However, it was found that the only SUDIQ dimension that predicted emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation was proactive behaviour toward strengths use.

stipulates that PD programmes should align with system-wide needs, strengthen learning area content
and outcomes, and promote system transformation. Imbedded in this system-wide criterion is The
White Paper on e-Education to employ a fully ICT integrated system at all levels of education:
management, teaching and learning, and administration by 2013. Mathematics teachers require PD
that develops their technological pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) and their social
professional identity (SPI). The PD of Mathematics teachers for ICT integration can assist the DBE to
achieve the aims of The White Paper on e-Education and bridge the technology gap between South
Africa and international education systems. Open distance learning (ODL) could be a viable method
to deliver PD to Mathematics teachers to address their zone of proximal development, develop their
TPACK, and establish and maintain their SPI. This study made use of a fully mixed sequential equal
status multi-mode research design and methodologies to develop guidelines for the PD of
Mathematics teachers in the pedagogical use of ICT in ODL. The qualitative phase (Phase I) was
rooted in the interpretivist paradigm. Through an adjustable exploration of a systematic literature
review, the researcher identified 23 core documents, analysed them with Atlas.ti™, and
conceptualised four themes according to Engeström‘s third generation activity theory (AT). Phase II
(radical exploration phase) of the research design was rooted in the radical structuralist paradigm. In
the context of transformation, it developed, validated, and standardised a research instrument for the
measurement of Mathematics teachers‘ PD requirements. The instrument was distributed to 300
senior phase (grades 7-9) Mathematics teachers in eight education management district centres of the
WCED. The analyses of the quantitative data conceptualised a fifth activity system. The five activity
systems from the adjustable and radical exploration phases were symbiotic, and co-dependent.
Expansive learning was used for boundary crossing and network building during six phases of this
study. The findings from the six phases of the expansive learning cycle indicated that PD of
Mathematics teachers in ODL for Phase III implementation of the e-Education policy should be a joint
initiative. Fundamentally ICT integration and implementation should start with Department of Basic
Education (DBE) initiatives. The DBE and Provincial Departments of Education (PDEs) should
conduct a needs analysis of ICT implementation, evaluate previous ICT PD programmes, plan ICT PD
strategies aligned with the ICT development plan, as well as with the requirements of the Mathematics
teachers. The DBE and PDE should invest in the provision of ICT equipment, afford human capital,
reinstate the laptop initiative for teachers, and supply schools with networked-computer facilities to
explore online platforms for PD. Mathematics teachers should assess their professional knowledge to
construct new philosophies, create a subject network group, and interact as participants and members
within their social environments. The standardised instrument could be used to determine and

The subject of this paper is the study of history of the Kačina Chateau from the point of view of its inspiration from the art and architecture of the ancient world. The introductory chapters were dedicated to the general atmosphere of the time in which the castle was designed and built, the general ideas of the Enlightenment, and also to its relations to Count Chotek. There is an unresolved problem whether its relations to Classical antiquity monuments existed directly, or if they were mediated by other sources. While working on the theme it turned out that the foundation of Kačina Chateau derived from earlier models that were developed during centuries. The work of Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was of substantial importance for all Classicist architecture and especially the architects of the Renaissance knew it very well and used it frequently. For the architecture of Kačina Chateau the most important stimuli were those of Andreas Palladio who transformed earlier patterns according to his own artistic views. One of the following chapters concentrates on the personality of the owner of the estate, the Count Jan Rudolf Chotek, and then on the architects and builders of the castle. Evaluation of the implementation of the Baby and Mother Friendly Initative in NamibiaAmadhila, Justina Nelago 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to conduct evaluation research on the implementation of the Baby and Mother Friendly Initiative in Namibia in order to identify its successes and failures, as well as to develop guidelines for the strengthening of the programme. An evaluation research design using a sequential mixed-methods approach to collect qualitative and quantitative data was conducted. In phase 1, qualitative data were collected through face-to-face interviews. Participants were the chief health programme officer for nutrition at national level and nurse managers in charge of the baby and mother friendly hospitals. In phase 2, quantitative data were collected from 391 registered and enrolled nurses/midwives working in the baby and mother friendly hospitals through a self-administered questionnaire. Both phases 1 and 2 indicated partial implementation of the Baby and Mother Friendly Initiative programme. Factors influencing the implementation positively or negatively were identified. (anglicky): In this thesis, two representative works of two post-war schools of Japanese detective fiction are analysed based on the knowledge of modern narratology. Two mentioned schools are so called social school of detective fiction (shakaiha 社会派), which appeared at the beginning of 60ties, and new authentic school of detective fiction (shin honkakuha 新本格派), which appeared at the beginning of 80ties. This thesis focuses on a theoretical understanding of the term "detective fiction", it describes the development of the detective genre in post-war Japan while focusing on the debates on "authentic" and "inauthentic" detective fiction and describes typical features of two previously mentioned schools. The by using a theoretical apparat suitable for analysing works of very schematic detective genre, two works - Points and lines (Ten to sen 点と線, 1958) written by Matsumoto Seichō 松本清張 (1909-1992) and Tokyo Zodiac Murders (Senseijutu satsujin jiken 占星術殺人事件, 1981) written by Shimada Sōji 島田荘司 (1948 - ) - are analysed. Analyses focus on composition schemes of both works and on the example translated from original works, existence or absence of elements typical for both schools are demonstrated while a different usage of these elements is showed.
