The Future of Podcasts : A Case Study based on Usability Heuristics of a Podcast Service User Interface of an iOS Application

Ackerstierna, Linda, Söder, Mikka January 2021 (has links)
This study investigates the Usability of the podcast service User Interface (UI) of the iOS app Aftonbladet. The method used originates from a heuristic evaluation technique where semi- structured interviews were conducted with users of the podcast service to explore the usability and to find usability problems. The conducted interviews determined that there existed usability problems with the UI and thus, usability heuristics have been violated in the UI.   Nielsen’s Ten Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design and Nielsen’s Severity Ratings for Usability Problems are applied to the interview answers for evaluating the usability of the podcast service UI.   The heuristics that are interpreted as being of critical importance are:   Heuristic 3. User Control and Freedom  Heuristic 4. Consistency and Standards  Heuristic 5. Error Prevention  Heuristic 6. Recognition rather than Recall  Heuristic 7. Flexibility and Efficiency of Use  Heuristic 8. Aesthetic and Minimalist Design  Heuristic 10. Help and Documentation    Three out of the ten heuristics were not of critical importance:    Heuristic 1. Visibility of System Status  Heuristic 2. Match Between System and Real World  Heuristic 9. Help Users Recognize, Recover and Diagnose from Errors

The Effect of Maternity Care Practices on the Duration of Breastfeeding

Rodriguez, Lisette 01 January 2019 (has links)
The natural practice of breastfeeding has been strongly noted as one of the most cost-effective, health promoting, disease-prevention strategies of the 21st century. Although primary health organizations recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life with added complementary foods and continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or longer, many mothers do not breastfeed their infants for the recommendation length of time. Applied policies and health practices, such as those described under the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and The International Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes, have been noted as contributing factors that can considerably impact the manner which women choose to feed their infants. A cross-sectional methodology assessed associations between maternity health practices and breastfeeding duration among women birthing in the United States. A secondary data analysis of the Infant Feeding Practice Study II and its Year 6 Follow-Up was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 24. Procedures for data analysis included frequencies, Ï?2 tests, and ordinal logistic regressions. Outcomes revealed that feeding infants any formula during their hospital stay drastically reduces the likelihood for prolonged breastfeeding duration. Study results also concluded that offering a pacifier to infants during their hospital stay reduced the length of breastfeeding duration. This study confirms many of the primary breastfeeding practices that are at the frontline of maternity patient care in the United States. Establishing well-grounded practices that aid in the long-term duration of breastfeeding could help save lives and improve child and maternal health outcomes within the United States.

Varje ljud skapar ett eko : Åsikter och Uppfattningar angående Klimatförändringar / Every Sound Creates Echoes : Echo-Chambers, Opinions, and Perceptions on Climate Change

Vig, Oskar January 2023 (has links)
This thesis examines how individuals and groups express their views on climate change in Swedish news media and whether there are echo chambers in the climate discourse. The study used a critical discourse analysis to examine a targeted sample of 13 news articles from Swedish newspapers. The articles were analysed to understand how arguments about climate change are constructed, which arguments are used to support different narratives, and how Swedish media coverage can influence citizens opinions and perceptions about climate change. The analysis revealed two distinct echo chambers in the discourse. The first echo-chamber framed climate change as an urgent matter related to political incompetence, global corporations, and banks. This echo-chamber often described a doomsday perspective, which can leave readers with feelings of helplessness or denial. The second echo-chamber showed scepticism towards the assumption that climate change is a result of anthropogenic activities. The scepticism is based on denial, lack of knowledge, and political ideologies, which hindered efforts to address the impacts of climate change. Mistrust in information sources, including the media and scientific organizations, influence this group's perceptions, leading to scepticism towards the scientific evidence of climate change. This study highlights the positive and negative effects of echo chambers in discourses around complex topics, these underlines the importance of assessing reliable information sources (i), actively seeking new perspectives (ii), and promoting open, respectful dialogues to reduce polarization and to effectively address the climate crisis (iii). The study highlights the crucial role that collective action and critical thinking play in solving the climate crisis, while recog-nizing the challenges associated with the solutions. Furthermore, the study explores the poten-tial of The power of ten concept and the role of the media encouraging proactive and con-structive information sharing.

Invertebrate Diversity: An Individualized Programme for Life Science / Invertebrate diversity: An individualized programme / Invertebrate diversity

Curtis, Barry 01 1900 (has links)
Educational changes in Ontario, initiated by the Hall-Dennis Report, resulted in a public perception of declining educational standards in the 1970's. Ministry of Education Guidelines, which were implemented in an attempt to remedy this, created a major disruption in our grade nine and ten science programmes. The grade ten Life Science course had become fragmented and the classes polarized between bright and slow students. Traditional teaching methods were no longer functioning well and, as a result, students were poorly motivated. In this project, the Life Science curriculum is restructured to improve continuity of subject matter and student motivation. The major innovation is an individualized unit on invertebrate diversity. This modular unit is designed for self-paced mastery learning. The six modules of this unit are based on the Personalized System of Instruction (P.S.I.). Optional activities are incorporated into each module to challenge and motivate industrious students. The means of evaluation of the new curriculum unit are outlined and various criteria for the success of the project are specified. / None / Master's of Science in Teaching (MST)

Persoonlike finansiële bestuur van NWK Beperk–werknemers / deur Willem Jacobus Adriaan Kriel

Kriel, Willem Jacobus Adriaan January 2010 (has links)
Personal financial management is an integrated part of modern man's everyday life. It does not only involve spending his monthly income. It comprises his outlook on life, the way he handles all his financial affairs as well as the way he goes about minimizing his financial risks. The financial plan that the individual has to provide for his retirement, to take care of his dependants as well as the way that the assets he acquired during this lifetime, must be distributed after his death, also forms part of this personal financial management. The main purpose of the study is to determine the levels of personal financial management practiced by employees of NWK Limited, as well as to determine the need for guidance in this regard. The following aspects of personal financial management are researched in chapter 2. These aspects were used to determine to what extent personal financial management was performed by having the study population anonymously complete a customized questionnaire. The following aspects were applied: * Attitude towards money. * Management style with regards to money. * Time value of money. * The financial plan. * Investments. The results of the study confirmed that there is a definite need for guidance with regard to personal financial management, especially under the younger employees as well as the personnel in the lower job levels of the company. Through the rendering of a tailored guidance programme, productivity as well as the quality of life, especially after retirement, could be improved significantly. / Thesis (M.B.A.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2011.

The Development of Year 3 Students' Place-Value Understanding: Representations and Concepts

Price, Peter Stanley January 2001 (has links)
Understanding base-ten numbers is one of the most important mathematics topics taught in the primary school, and yet also one of the most difficult to teach and to learn. Research shows that many children have inaccurate or faulty number conceptions, and use rote-learned procedures with little regard for quantities represented by mathematical symbols. Base-ten blocks are widely used to teach place-value concepts, but children often do not perceive the links between numbers, symbols, and models. Software has also been suggested as a means of improving children's development of these links but there is little research on its efficacy. Sixteen Queensland Year 3 students worked cooperatively with the researcher for 10 daily sessions, in 4 groups of 4 students of either high or low mathematical achievement level, on tasks introducing the hundreds place. Two groups used physical base-ten blocks and two used place-value software incorporating electronic base-ten blocks. Individual interviews assessed participants' place-value understanding before and after teaching sessions. Data sources were videotapes of interviews and teaching sessions, field notes, workbooks, and software audit trails, analysed using a grounded theory method. There was little difference evident in learning by students using either physical or electronic blocks. Many errors related to the "face-value" construct, counting and handling errors, and a lack of knowledge of base-ten rules were evident. Several students trusted the counting of blocks to reveal number relationships. The study failed to confirm several reported schemes describing children's conceptual structures for multidigit numbers. Many participants demonstrated a preference for grouping or counting approaches, but not stable mental models characterising their thinking about numbers generally. The independent-place construct is proposed to explain evidence in both the study and the literature that shows students making single-dimensional associations between a place, a set of number words, and a digit, rather than taking account of groups of 10. Feedback received in the two conditions differed greatly. Electronic feedback was more positive and accurate than feedback from blocks, and reduced the need for human-based feedback. Primary teachers are urged to monitor students' use of base-ten blocks closely, and to challenge faulty number conceptions by asking appropriate questions.
