Formation et socialisation des adolescents et des étudiants en écoles d'art de pratiques amateurs et supérieures / Training and socialization of teenagers and students in art schools in France

Joly, Frédérique 28 May 2015 (has links)
This thesis consists in a field study realized by studying students in ten schools of art practices and seven upper level art schools in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Île-de-France regions. Questionnaires and interviews with students but also with parents and heads of institutions were used in order to analyze several themes such as the possible development of a typology of students through the analysis of the parents social belonging, or via the concepts of vocation or gift. This study also presents the various aspects of family influence in this type of art practice through the influence of “prescribers” and the real motivations of the parents of the students of these two types of art schools. Moreover, this thesis sheds new light on the concept of gender through the game of numbers but also through interviews with students. Moreover, instead of Education in the study of our public deserves special attention, as new tools and media that shape a particular type of creation as much as they create specific artistic relations. A chapter is also devoted to the representations of being an artist. Finally, the study also reveals possible links between art schools of amateur practices and upper education schools, including similar missions in the training, evaluation and attraction of an identical public in terms of social origin.

The empirical part uses methods of qualitative research, which is based on semi-structured interviews with professional and amateur ornithologists who participate or deal with projects of citizen science. The research problem is formulated as follows: Amateur ornithologists, their role and involvement in civil science and cooperation with professional ornithologists from the perspective of both amateur and professional ornithologists. It uses a thematic analysis to process the interviews on which several topics are based, for example: amateur ornithologist and its concept, relationships between amateur and professional ornithologists and their cooperation, relationship of amateur ornithologists to nature, their self-education, citizen science from the perspective of amateur and professional ornithologists, data and their quality. Research suggests that the difference between amateurs and professionals lies mainly in their relationship to science, which affects other aspects of their relationship to each other and to citizen science.

Collaborative Approaches to Translation in Social Change Movements

Langer, Jocelyn D 13 July 2016 (has links)
The focus of this thesis is on collaborative translation as a reflection of the contexts in which it takes place. I consider a wide range of contexts, including both historical and present day social change movements. Drawing on the principles that were outlined by scholars during the cultural turn in translation studies that took place during the 1980s and 90s, I examine cultural translation as something that can take place on many levels, from the translation of words and sentences to the translation of the values of a movement. As an example of the holistic approaches that are part of cultural translation, I look in-depth at Our Bodies, Ourselves, a feminist book that has been written and translated collaboratively by women all over the world. I then expand my survey of collaborative approaches to include the translation of literary and religious texts, including the translation of Don Quixote into Kichwa, as part of an indigenous movement, as well as historical and present day team translations of Buddhist sutras in the U.S. and China, and numerous collaborative Bible translations spanning centuries and continents. I also explore the relationship between amateur translators, collaborative approaches, and activism in social movements. Part of my aim is to bridge the gaps between translator training and translation theory, practice, and policy. In some cases, amateur translators are a manifestation of the values of a movement; in other cases they are a necessity due to limited financial resources, and activists take a variety of approaches to the problem of budgetary constraints. One approach is collaboration, which can make a translation project economically viable by dividing work amongst volunteers. Another solution is to form worker cooperatives. In addition, the use of technology can help to increase efficiency and save money. Translators in social change movements frequently solve problems and carry out their values by taking holistic approaches. From integrating modern technology and time-tested historical practices to drawing on translation traditions from a variety of cultures, collaborative translation projects demonstrate a wide range of ways in which the values of social change movements can be reflected in the translation process.

The Development Of The University Of Central Florida Home Movie Archive And The Harris Rosen Collection

Niedermeyer, Michael 01 January 2010 (has links)
Since the invention of the cinema, people have been taking home movies. The everincreasing popularity of this activity has produced a hundred years worth of amateur film culture which is in desperate need of preservation. As film archival and public history have coalesced in the past thirty years around the idea that every person’s history is important, home movies represent a way for those histories to be preserved and studied by communities and researchers alike. The University of Central Florida is in a perfect position to establish an archive of this nature, one that is specifically dedicated to acquiring, preserving, and presenting the home movies of Central Florida residents. This project has resulted in the establishment of The Central Florida Home Movie Archive, and the resulting analysis will show that the archive will be a benefit for researchers from all areas of academic study as well as the residents of Central Florida.

The case for high school dramatics : including a survey of the status of dramatics in the high schools of California

Davis, Musa Evans 01 January 1931 (has links) (PDF)
In presenting The Case for High School Dramatics the writer wishes, in advance, to be relieved of any charge of specious pleading. It is not maintained that the dramatic method offers a panacea for the teaching of English, for she is also an advocate of continuous drill in the fundamental processes. In this case of special pleading, however, the effective points of the dramatic method are emphasized to the best of the pleader's ability, and wholly without prejudice to other satisfactory methods of motivating oral and written English. Several years of study arid observation in the milieu, and the pragmatic teaching by trial and error have placed the writer in a position to plead the case with good conscience. From the theoretical as well as the practical point of view the method stands the pragmatic test — it works. The case is sound. In brief, dramatics is a method particularly applicable to the present-day student material, and, in combination with thorough drill in the fundamentals, seems to justify its constantly increasing influence in the senior high school curriculum.
