Fyzická aktivita u jedinců po transplantaci ledvin / Physical activity after the renal transplantation

Sýsová, Alena January 2011 (has links)
Introduction: Thanks to modern medicine people with chronic forms of the diseases can live longer than before. In this work we concerned with last stage of chronical kidney dinase, which is treated by dialysis or transplantation. Succesful renal transplantation leads to significant improvement in quality of life of patients, but after transplantation there are still some risk factors, which may influence health and physical condition of men. We can eliminace these risk factors with some non-pharmacological ways, for example with intervention program of regular physical activity and special nutrition, which can help to gain and increase patient`s physical condition. The main focus of research of this thesis was to evaluate physical condition and amount of physical aktivity of 4 groups of patients, each with another intervention, after renal transplant. We used the battery of motor tests "Senior Fitness Test Manual". Aim: Analyze, how regular physical activity, special nutrition and combination of both influence physical condition of patients after renal transplant. Methods: This research work is a part of the grant project IGA MZ CR 173 (NS-10518- 3/2009). We used 21 participants selected from patients of Nephrology Clinic TC IKEM in Prague for our solution. Physical fitness testing was performed...

Etudes des mécanismes de maintien en mémoire de travail chez les personnes jeunes et âgées : approches computationnelle et comportementale basées sur les modèles TBRS* et SOB-CS / Study of the maintenance mechanisms in working memory with young and older people : computational and behavioral approach based on the TBRS* and SOB-CS models

Hoareau, Violette 19 December 2017 (has links)
Working memory is a cognitive system essential to our daily life. It allows us to temporarily store information in order to perform a cognitive task. One of the main features of this type of memory is to be limited in capacity. The reasons for this limitation are widely debated in the literature. Some models consider that a main cause of forgetting in working memory is the existence of a passive temporal decay in the activation of memory representations whereas other models assume that interference between information are sufficient to explain the limited capacity of this memory. Two computational models have recently been proposed (TBRS* and SOB-CS) and they perfectly illustrate this debate. Indeed, they both describe differently what happens during a working memory task involving both storage and information processing. In addition to opposing the causes of forgetting, they propose separate maintenance processes: refreshing relevant information according to TBRS* versus removing irrelevant information according to SOB-CS. This thesis was organized around two main objectives. First, we focused on the study of these two models and their maintenance mechanisms. To do so, we performed behavioral experiments using the complex span task to test specific hypotheses of these models. Second, using computational models, we investigated the causes of working memory deficits observed in the elderly, with the aim, in the long term, of creating or improving remediation tools. Regarding the first objective, results showed a discrepancy between human behavior and simulations. Indeed, TBRS* and SOB-CS did not reproduce a positive effect of the number of distractors contrary to what has been observed experimentally. We propose that this positive effect, not predicted by the models, is related to the long-term storage not taken into account in these two models. Regarding the second objective, the behavioral results suggest that older people would have difficulty mainly in refreshing memory traces and in stabilizing information in the long term during a complex task. Overall, the results of this thesis suggest to deepen the research on the links between the maintenance mechanisms and the long-term storage, for example by proposing a new computational model accounting for our results. Beyond advances in understanding the functioning of working memory, this thesis also shows that the use of computational models is of particular relevance for the study of a theory as well as for the comparison of different populations.

Baby Boomer Living: Designing a Modern Continuing Care Retirement Community

Wassum, Ryan Michael 01 June 2013 (has links)
With the largest U.S. generation in the midst of retirement, the Baby Boomer cohort is vastly changing the senior housing landscape. As the housing market gradually improves and the development of senior housing chases the increasing demand, Baby Boomers are a highly selective cohort with more buying and spending power than their predecessors, are healthier and more active, and are demanding an unconventional modification of alternative senior housing. The “traditional” senior community is outdated and no longer seen as a viable choice for retirement, and new and innovated models have surpassed the old-fashioned establishments. Among the innovative senior community models, the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) combines a variety of unique residential options and comprehensive services that meet the needs of new and active retirees and aging seniors. Focusing on the Baby Boomer cohort in conjunction with a modified CCRC model, this project examines the current demographic and housing landscape for Baby Boomers and seniors, as well as assesses trending planning techniques and design elements to formulate an ideal senior living prototype for the 234 acre Sinclair Ranch in Chinese Camp, California. In culmination of research, academic literature review, survey analysis, and case study review, key trending planning and design elements have emerged to develop a state-of-the-art CCRC intended to meet market demands and desires of a growing and highly selective senior cohort. Thus, this project concludes with a design Draft Plan for the Sinclair Ranch that captures both the characteristics of an innovative CCRC and the emergent desires stemming from the shifting senior landscape. With key design recommendations and proposed community features, the draft plan is intended to outline and guide the vision of the proposed development for the Sinclair Ranch CCRC.

Hedin, Alexander January 2011 (has links)
The first version of the Senior processor was created as part of a thesis projectin 2007. This processor was completed and used for educational purposes atLinköpings University. In 2008 several parts of the processor were optimized andthe processor expanded with additional functionality as part of another thesisproject. In 2009 an EU funded project called MULTI-BASE started, in which theComputer Division at the Department of Electrical Engineering participated in.For their part of the MULTI-BASE project, the Senior processor was selected tobe used. After continuous revision and development, this processor was sent formanufacturing. The assignment of this thesis project was to test and verify the different func-tions implemted in the Senior processor. To do this a PCB was developed fortesting the Senior processor together with a Virtex-4 FPGA. Extensive testingwas done on the most important functions of the Senior processor. These testsshowed that the manufactured Senior processor works as designed and that it alonecan perform larger calculations and use external hardware accelerators with thehelp of its various interfaces.

Palaestra : Outdoor activity for seniors / Palaestra : Utomhusaktivitet för seniorer

Fredriksson, Cecilia, Ramberg, Christina January 2011 (has links)
The assignment from Slottsbro AB was to construct an outdoor activity in modular form, without electronics, mechanics or weights as resistance, targeting seniors. To gain better understanding of what kind of activities seniors need and what problem areas they have, interviews were made with physiotherapists’, researchers and training instructors. Seniors were interviewed and answered questionnaires and observations of various kinds were made to gain further knowledge and inspiration. A literature study was made to gain knowledge of seniors’ health and physiology, fitness and movement exercises and fall prevention. Exercise is a great way for preventing falls, especially functional training, meaning training to manage everyday life. It is particularly balance, leg strength, explosive arm strength and mobility that need to be trained. During the construction phase sketches of various suggestions on equipment or motion exercises were made and were consulted with Slottsbro AB. CAD-models were constructed based on the previous decisions. From these CAD-models prototypes at scale of 1:10 were made in the University workshop. The models were later used to take product pictures outdoors, in order to give an idea of how a full-scale design would look like. Scale models were also used in the compulsory thesis exhibition. To show how the park should be used a stop film was made. It was meant as an illustrative element during the exhibition and final presentation. The modules that were developed were:  A bench with three different seat heights  A balance board  A staircase combined with an inclined plane  Bars in different heights to stand by and do different types of exercises,  Rings attach to rubber bands with different resistance  Windlass, curved pipe and spinning wheels The activity park was named Palaestra which means “training” in Latin.

A qualitative study about Elite bandy player’s experiences in the transition from junior to senior

Lindström, Jesper January 2018 (has links)
Previous studies has shown that the transition from junior to senior is one of the mostdifficult transitions in a sports career, at the same time the transition is seen as a critical periodin life. The environment can both be seen as a resource and a barrier, depending on how theathletes experience the environment. Furthermore, studies have shown that determination andgoal awareness are seen as resources. The purpose of the essay was to study elite bandyplayer’s experience of the transitions from junior to senior with the aid of semi-structuredinterviews with emphasis on experienced demands, coping, barriers and resources. Theparticipant were four male elite bandy players from the national team in Sweden at the age of25-31 (M= 29, SD=2.34).The participants in the study participated in three semi-structuredinterviews, were the themes were based on the purpose. The interviews were analyzed byusing a qualitative content analysis. The results showed that internal and external demandsduring the transition were individual demands as well as physical differences. Theenvironment affects the transition positively and negatively, both factors inside and outsidethe sport. Furthermore, mental resources as self-confidence were resources while injurieswere considered to be barriers. The participants have had goal awareness during the transitionwhich was considered as coping. For future recommendations, it is of interest to keepconducting research in bandy. More precisely, to investigate the differences between womenand men in the transition from junior to senior. It is also of interest to study the economicaldifference between the highest league in Russia and Sweden.

Individuální plánování jako nástroj sociální integrace uživatelů služby Domova pro seniory Třebíč / Individual planning as a tool for social integration of service users Retirement Home Třebíč.

DOLEČKOVÁ, Olga January 2015 (has links)
In my diploma thesis I deal with the issue of individual planning as an important tool for social integration of seniors after their entering into the residential social services - Retirement Home Třebíč. The issue of population aging and the seniors seeking residential social services becomes an important issue today and it is related to the increasing length of human life. This thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part is divided into eleven chapters and includes the basic issues related to the main research question. In the empirical part of the diploma thesis there is the goal stated, which is to chart a setting of the individual planning process in the Retirement Home Třebíč. A qualitative research method was applied for a data collection and a sub-analysis method was chosen to create groups (clumps). The major research question for this thesis was established: "Does the individual planning in the Retirement Home Třebíč serve for social integration of the service users?" To answer the main research question, five specific research questions were defined: 1. Are the physiological needs of the users being fulfilled? 2. Is the clients' need for security being fulfilled? 3. Are the social needs of clients being fulfilled? 4. Is the need of clients' autonomy being fulfilled, 5. Are clients satisfied with the individual planning? The research work itself was conducted in two phases. A preliminary research was performed in the first phase and only then the research itself followed. The resulting data were structured and presented according to the specific research questions. The research showed that the respondents are satisfied with individual planning in the Retirement Home Třebíč. In order for the social integration of service users to be complete, not only social but also physiological needs, the need for security and autonomy of residents' needs should be fulfilled. Only if a full range of needs is fulfilled completely, one can speak of a functioning social integration. The research also revealed that all respondents have a key worker and know her name. They identically also answered the question whether they have an individual plan of care formed for them. It reflects wishes of the user if the provided services of the home allow that. To answer the main research question "Does the individual planning in the Senior Home Třebíč serve for social integration of the service users?" my answer is yes. One of the important areas that affect the individual planning and service users' satisfaction is a mutual communication between the residents and staff of the facility. Their proactive approach is of great importance in all areas assessed. In the interviews, clients also repeatedly praised the friendly atmosphere in the home. This thesis should expand awareness of an individual planning in a retirement home among students, home workers, especially key employees, but also the general public.
