We follow Torsten Brodén through his writings on Russell's Paradox. By comparing his work to that of his fellow colleagues at the time, we acquire an understanding of the context in which he wrote. Brodén is somewhat unique among contemporary mathematicans in his philosophical approach and thorough treatment of the most fundamental logical building blocks of set theory. With this mindset, he considers Russell's Paradox from a new point of view and believes himself to have successfully found a way to rid the world of it.

<p>The aim of this essay is to analyze the relationship between the title and the music in a selec-tion of piano pieces by Torsten Petre. Based on the work list, a categorization of the piano titles has been made and the categories have been named ”emotions, moods and minds”, ”na-ture”, ”mankind”, ”dances and similar titles”, ”supernatural beings, fairy creatures and popu-lar belief”, ”foreign countries and foreign culture”, ”nationalism and tradition”, ”artifacts”, and ”miscellaneous”. Two pieces from the category ”emotions, moods and minds” Skizzer för piano, third series Op. 38, 1905 have been chosen: no 2 Svikna drömmar and no 6 Mörka stunder. See appendix 1 for the work list and appendix 2 for the categorization.</p><p>As a background to the analysis, a biography about Torsten Petre as a musician and composer has been written. The background also consists of a description of the bourgeois salon, an environment in which his music was played, as well as of salon music as a genre.</p><p>As there is no established method for analyzing the relationship between title and music, I have based the analysis on Benestad´s thoughts about how we perceive music. I have carried out the analysis using the piano and playing the piano pieces repeatedly until I felt that I could describe the relationship. The analysis shows that using the title as a guideline there is a clear recognition between the title and music, which can be described thoroughly, almost like a story.</p>

This study aims to study the Swedish Air Force Chief Torsten Friis and his social network during the period 1940 – 1942. Friis, who was the Swedish Air Force Chief, between the years 1934 – 1942 completely changed the Swedish Air Force with his new ideas and the implementation of these but he did not do it alone. Other than Friis himself there were many others who in one way or another contributed to the development of the Swedish Air Force. Therefore, this study will investigate Friis social network to gain more knowledge who the people behind the Swedish Air Force where. The concludes that a lot of different individuals played an important role. These where not only officers and other people working in the military, but also non-military personnel such as bureaucrats, board members, businessmen and politicians.

Går det att i arkitekturen se åsikter och värderingar? Med utgångspunkt i politiska ståndpunkter har jag givit mig på valstugan och dess utformning. Valstugorna är idag ofta snarlika varandra oavsett vilket parti som använder dem. Att kunna se olika partiers värderingar och ståndpunkter även i formgivningen av den plats där de möter väljarna, är något som gynnar både väljarna och partierna själva. / Is it possible to see opinions and values in architecture? Starting from political viewpoints, I’ve taken up the ‘election cottage’ and its layout. Election cottages today are often all rather alike, regardless of the party using them. To be able to see the various parties’ values and viewpoints in the layout of the place where they meet the voters is something that benefits both the voters and the parties themselves.

Via denna uppsats, vilken behandlar tre utvalda orgelkompositioner av de svenska tonsättarna Valdemar Söderholm, Torsten Sörenson och Gunnar Thyrestam, alla i sin profession också aktiva kyrkomusiker och pedagoger, vill jag fästa uppmärksamheten på en idag något negligerad era, nämligen den nysakliga perioden inom Musica Sacrae. Följande studie handlar om Torsten Nilssons verk Crucifigatur, ett avantgardistiskt musikstycke för orgel komponerat 1968. Det ingår i en svit om sju stycken, kallade ”improvisationer”. Här möts organisten av en varierad notbild ömsom grafiskt ömsom traditionellt noterad. I studien beskriver jag min strategi för att lära mig verket, som innefattar både teoretiska studier samt lektioner och inspelningsanalys, och reflekterar över resultatet. Det ligger i styckets natur att det blir lika många tolkningar som organister, och det finns inga sanningar exakt hur det skall utföras. Ofta finns flera tänkbara och bra lösningar. Jag har i denna studie presenterat mina tankar och förslag på hur stycket kan utformas och instuderas, grundat på efterforskningar, notanalys och samtal med min lärare Nils Larsson. Den musikhistoriska kontexten har även getts stort utrymme. För den som är nyfiken på musiken, tiden eller stycket specifikt hoppas jag denna uppsats kan ge nya perspektiv och infallsvinklar.

<p> In the history of scientific visualization techniques there is a lack of social science practices and methodologies. The advent of modern computer graphics brought the use of visualizations into a whole new era, but even though the tools by which such modern visualizations are created become easier to access and use, the lack of social science researchers harvesting the benefits of such tools still remain. This ease of use, increase in power and accessibility plus the ever growing need within the natural sciences to augment the human senses has further complicated the relationship between scientific methodologies, validity, reliability and the use of visualization techniques. This relationship must be explored, demystified and understood in order to fully grasp the impact of visualization practices when incorporated into any given scientific method. Within the social sciences there is one example of a tradition that has since its conception carried within it a graphical notion and a visualization practice. Time geography, a theory/method from the field of human/cultural geography has at its core a set of visualization techniques that encapsulate the very framework of time geographical analysis. Since it has been an integral part of the method trough out its history, it provides the perfect example for the study of the relationship between graphical visualization techniques and methodological development. The essay uses time geography as a case to construct and try out a set of scientific and methodological perspectives on the use of modern visualization techniques in social science practices. It is not an attempt to critically deconstruct this relationship within time geography, rather it points to a possible approach to the study of visualization techniques and their impact/role in the development of social science practices.</p> / <p>Den vetenskapliga visualiserings historia visar en tydlig brist på exempel från samhällsvetenskapliga praktiker och metoder. Den moderna datorgrafikens utveckling har tagit den vetenskapliga visualiseringen till nya nivåer, men trots att verktygen för skapandet av moderna datorgrafiska visualiseringar blivit lättare att hantera och förfoga över lyser de samhällsvetenskapliga exemplen på adopterandet av dessa verktyg fortfarande med sin frånvaro. Vertygens ökande grad av användarvänlighet och kraft, samt de naturvetenskapliga traditionernas ständigt växande behov att gå bortom de mänskliga sinnenas begränsningar har gjort relationen mellan visualiseringstekniker och vetenskapliga metoder, dess reliabilitet och validitet ytterligare komplicerad. För atttill fullo förstå hur inkorporerandet av visuella praktiker och modeller påverkar en metods utveckling i övrigt måste denna relation utforskas och analyseras. Inom samhällsvetenskapen finns en tradition som sedan sin tillkomst burit med sig ett visuellt språk och en visualiseringspraktik. Tidsgeografin, en delvis kulturgeografisk tradition har i själva sitt kärnspråk en serie viusaliseringsmodeller vilka är central del av metodens analysverktyg. Tidsgeografin erbjuder därmed ett utmärkt exempel för studier av relationen mellan vetenskapliga visualiseringspraktiker och metodologisk utveckling. Uppsatsen använder tidsgeografins metod och historia som en fallstudie i ett försök att konstruera och pröva ett antal vetenskapsteoretiska och metodologiska perspektiv på användandet av vetenskaplig visualisering inom samhällsvetenskapen. Uppsatsen är inte ett försök att kritiskt dekonstruera tidsgeografin, snarare visar den på en möjlig väg att närma sig studiet av moderna visualiseringsteknikers påverkan/roll i samhällsvetenskaplig metodutveckling.</p>
