Collaborative care relations: Examining perspectives for application and change within a Canadian hospitalBrander, ROSEMARY 25 June 2012 (has links)
Collaborative care is a philosophy which guides the work of interdisciplinary teams and patients and their families internationally. It has been demonstrated to improve quality of care, safety, and patient and staff satisfaction, yet applying this philosophy still requires much investigation. This thesis describes processes of change directed towards a vision to enhance collaborative care relationships with patients and families within one hospital site of a non-acute academic health science centre in Ontario, Canada. By building focused conversations around existing patient and family centred education and using an initial conceptual framework of customer service, healthcare providers, mid- and senior level leaders shared their perspectives, negotiated meanings and created innovations to enhance collaborative relationships within the organization. Based within the critical paradigm, a critical collaborative ethnography was constructed with the use of sequential and mixed research methodologies. The ethnography evolved over three phases in a step-wise and additive design during the three year period of study. Phase 1 examined the perspectives of healthcare providers in an exploratory case study which contributed to mid-level leaders’ discussions in Phase 2. Cumulative findings from Phases 1 and 2 were brought to discussions with senior leaders in Phase 3. Members of a participative action research team assisted with research design and study processes. Shared meanings and innovative change ideas were developed and captured through the use of semi-structured focus groups and interviews, survey, participant observation and inductive analysis. A conceptual framework of ‘partners-in-care’ emerged and was used to assist participants to make sense of the values and factors important in their work with respect to collaborative relationships. The research processes facilitated the development of many innovations to enhance collaborative practice within the hospital. The organization was described by the research as undergoing directed change to enhance collaborative care as evidenced through participant self-reports, observed initiatives and the ethnographic descriptions. / Thesis (Ph.D, Rehabilitation Science) -- Queen's University, 2012-06-25 15:06:24.687

Self-realization in contemporary theology : towards a vision of Christian wholenessSlater, Jennifer 02 1900 (has links)
This research determines the ground for a Christian theological
anthropology that makes provision for a doctrine that supports
human self-realization. It is evident from the study that
anthropological self-realization is an involved process of becoming
truly human, not an isolated course founded solely on the biblical
knowledge of being created in the image and likeness of God. All
sciences, and in particular anthropological sciences, enjoy the
prerogative of unraveling and analyzing the human person. Whether
these sciences are neuro-biological, psychological, theological,
philosophical, biblical, spiritual or mystical in character, each with its
specific method legitimately attempts to explain the complexities of
the human person. In the light of this neither philosophy nor theology
possess the exclusive claim to authentic human wisdom. In truth
most scientific insights have a combined impact on the self-realizing
growth and development of humanity.
The process of self-realization links theology to real life questions such
as evil, suffering, hope, love, justice and freedom, as well as with the
immanent, the transcendent, the human and the divine. This thesis
holds to the opinion that a theology of self-realization would
contribute to the 'humanization' of theology since it brings praxis and
theory into close alignment. This study equally expresses the
conviction that the doctrine of consecrated vowed life, an ecclesiastical
structure in the Roman Catholic Church, is particularly in need of
humanization, as the notion of 'self' as a strength has been notably
absent from traditional treatises on the practices of religious life.
Conventional forms of consecrated vowed life called the woman to
suppress and spiritualize at least some of her femininity. This was due
to the distorted theological anthropology that sustained consecrated
life in which God was presented as an idea to be grasped
intellectually, and not an experience to be lived. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / Th. D. (Systematic Theology)

this paper aims to conduct a study about some methods used to obtain an approximate
solution of the functions of roots. The survey was made by means of a
literature review, focusing on Numerical Methods Bisection, False Position, Fixed
Point, Newton-Raphson and Secant. In order to illustrate the operation and application
of these methods, numerical test problems taken from the literature were
performed by implementing these. For each test performed were analyzed parameters
that in uence each method and the convergence situation for the approximate
solution of the analyzed problems. Although these methods do not always make
available exact roots, they can be calculated with the precision that the problem
needs. At this point, it is evident the importance of studying methods for nding
such equations roots. Thus, the work is justi ed on the need to discuss the problems
facing the nding roots of polynomial functions in the literature. In addition, this
paper describes a comparison between the methods studied by applying mathematical

Previous issue date: 2015-04-30 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This work bears the purpose of setting up the course of the circle quadrature solution attempts,
as well as to mention its influences, contributions for the mathematics development until now
and to incentive the geometry dynamics use. In it we produce a possible explanation of how
geometry has been created besides of a brief study on the number followed of the production
GeoGebra software, the too we have utilized to build up the figures and the work implementations.
We will utilize the areas equivalence based on Euclides elements to solve an initial
problem: that of constructing a quadrilateral equivalent to a given pentagon and, for such, it
will be necessary the demonstration of some propositions. We will utilize the square to relate
its areas with those of the polygonal figures through the âquadratureâ method. With such we
will execute the rectangle, triangle, pentagon quadrature, and that of the convex n sides polygon.
We will utilize Pitagoras theorem to sum up the squares areas by bringing up brief comments
about its use. Afterward this method will also the utilized in the attempt of squaring the curvelin
figures such as the circle which has later on originated the problem of the circle quadrature. For
explain such a problem we will utilize the geometric construction along with the demonstration
of two methods for obtaining the circle quadrature and its respective results and comparisons.
In the sequence, we will know what the are constructive numbers, algebraic and transcendent,
which will enable us to reach to a classification of the number and its relation to the circle
quadrature problem, reaching out the answer to our problem. While defining the geometrical
average we will demonstrate how to obtain some quadrature utilized in such an average in the
proposed activities. In other words, we can say that this work aims to produce the circle quadrature
problem, the investigation of the methods developed by mathematicians for the solution of
this problem in the course of history and, finally, an ascertainment on the answer these methods
point us.
do círculo, chegando à resposta do nosso problema.

Counting prime polynomials and measuring complexity and similarity of informationRebenich, Niko 02 May 2016 (has links)
This dissertation explores an analogue of the prime number theorem for polynomials over finite fields as well as its connection to the necklace factorization algorithm T-transform and the string complexity measure T-complexity. Specifically, a precise asymptotic expansion for the prime polynomial counting function is derived. The approximation given is more accurate than previous results in the literature while requiring very little computational effort. In this context asymptotic series expansions for Lerch transcendent, Eulerian polynomials, truncated polylogarithm, and polylogarithms of negative integer order are also provided. The expansion formulas developed are general and have applications in numerous areas other than the enumeration of prime polynomials.
A bijection between the equivalence classes of aperiodic necklaces and monic prime polynomials is utilized to derive an asymptotic bound on the maximal T-complexity value of a string. Furthermore, the statistical behaviour of uniform random sequences that are factored via the T-transform are investigated, and an accurate probabilistic model for short necklace factors is presented.
Finally, a T-complexity based conditional string complexity measure is proposed and used to define the normalized T-complexity distance that measures similarity between strings. The T-complexity distance is proven to not be a metric. However, the measure can be computed in linear time and space making it a suitable choice for large data sets. / Graduate / 0544 0984 0405 / nrebenich@gmail.com

Social workers' conceptualizations of spirituality as lived experience in professional practiceLwanga, Kasekende S., Christine 27 September 2016 (has links)
This doctoral study explores social workers’ shared understandings of spirituality as lived experience in their personal lives and professional practice. It examines Canadian social workers’ shared conceptualizations of spirituality as lived experience, what it entails, its role and purpose (why), and how it informs professional practice. Data collection involved three steps: a national publicity led to 24 completed self-screening questionnaires (SSQ); 14 in-depth interviews conducted through constructivist grounded theory’s theoretical sampling and; the preliminary findings were validated by the 24 SSQ participants.
This study generated two key findings. The central concepts category of the conceptual schema of spirituality as lived experience emerged as Transcendent Life Energy (TLE) as Unconditional Love (UL) in Transformative Relationships (TR) With Self (WS) in Support of Wellbeing (SW)- i.e. TLE-UL-TR-WS-SW. Second, the conceptual schema analyzed through Self as body-mind-emotions-spirit-social (B-M-E-S-S) being—the social work practitioners—illuminated that spirituality as lived experience is about inherent, interconnected, transformative relationships that involve individuation as a life-long process that support healing, development of personal values, growth, and wellbeing in participants’ lives, their clients’ and social life.
These findings unveiled interrelated discoveries of significance in social work practice. The wellbeing of Self is inherently interconnected with practitioners’ professional practice, their clients’ and others’ wellbeing. This confirmation is consistent with the concerns about the use of Self in countertransference and religion/culture. However, the personal values that participants developed through the conceptual schema were consistent with human rights and social work values; they included: respect for inherent dignity and worth of persons, self-determination, personal and professional integrity, do no harm, and social justice. Participants’ process of developing personal values exposed a distinction between beliefs and values acquired through socialization and those developed through the conceptual schema. These findings illuminate the function of social work as catalyst for transformative relationships and clarify the role of individuation as directly related to wellbeing, in the midst of cultural and embodied hegemony. Furthermore, the findings illuminate how, why, and what spirituality as lived experience entails and; highlight the multidisciplinary nature of social work practice and theory as inherently interconnected, encompassing human, natural, and social sciences. / October 2016
