o Latim apresenta diversos traços desse antigo paradigma.
This research was developped during the Master Course on Language Studies, at
Instituto de Letras, in UFF. The objectve focused is the morpheme –ē, composer of
verbs with a state value – stative – in Latin. The starting point of these studies is the
apparent intersection between the categories of derivational suffix and thematic vowel
wich the referred morpheme is found in. Diacronic studies of latin morfology show that
this suffix has a relatively complex path as continuity of a morpheme composer of
indoeuropean aoristic themes. As the permanence is inherent to change, Latin shows
several features of such na ancient inflectional paradigm. Affiliated to a used based
functionalist theory, this work uses the constructional perspective by Traugott &
Trousdale (2013). For the analysis, we used transitivity paramaters by Hopper &
Thompson (1980). The corpus are comedies of Plautus, writer from archaic period of
Latin Litterature. The choice of this author is due to the popular feature of his work and
to the numerous orality marks nos his texts, wich lead us to believe that its language
was close to the vernacular spoken language of his age. In a general way, the analysis
shoed that stative verbs use are away, in many features, from those described by
diachronic grammars, because they have no productivity and with a probable
neoanalysus of the verb stem. They also showed that the suffix is related to the notion of
aktionsart, or a way of being of a verbal action

Mouvement associatif étudiant et transformations des modes d’engagements collectifs / Student associative movement and transformations of the collective engagement methodsLichet, Thierry 12 January 2010 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the student union and its impact on other forms of individual devotion towards collective commitments in the Social world. It aims to demonstrate that the student union generates projects and forms of commitments in the collective, that reappear several years later in unions, NGOs, political parties. Although the student union message is transitive, the precursor nature of collective engagements, central to student union movement, is the focus of this research. The demonstration spans two chapters. The first demonstrates the historical reality of such proposal, from the end of the nineteenth century to the 80s. The second demonstrates its topicality, mainly through the activities within the network FAGE. This work, combining quantitative and qualitative analysis, is based upon the subject of Touraine category, with a particular emphasis on the participation of the student union in the emergence of the Subject. The historical aspects of this thesis are based on the work of Monchablon, Fischer, and more broadly, GERME. The problems associated with the third sector are considered under the point of view of Ion, Archambault and Mauss. The transitive capability of the student union message builds on Fillieule, Mayer and Agrikoliansky works. This work demonstrates the ability of the student union to disturb the social consensus in the area of collective commitment of individuals, and to favour the gradual institutionalization of innovative and performative modalities.

M.Sc thesis, Department of Mathematics, University of Western Cape
For integers n; k 1; and k n; the graph k
n has vertices the 2n vectors
of Fn2
and adjacency de ned by two vectors being adjacent if they di er in k
coordinate positions. In particular, 1
n is the classical n-cube, usually denoted
by H1(n; 2): This study examines the codes (both binary and p-ary for p an odd
prime) of the row span of adjacency and incidence matrices of these graphs.
We rst examine codes of the adjacency matrices of the n-cube. These have
been considered in [14]. We then consider codes generated by both incidence
and adjacency matrices of the Hamming graphs H1(n; 3) [12]. We will also
consider codes of the line graphs of the n-cube as in [13].
Further, the automorphism groups of the codes, designs and graphs will be
examined, highlighting where there is an interplay. Where possible, suitable
permutation decoding sets will be given.

Topological and symbolic dynamics of the doubling map with a holeAlcaraz Barrera, Rafael January 2014 (has links)
This work motivates the study of open dynamical systems corresponding to the doubling map. In particular, the dynamical properties of the attractor of the doubling map when a symmetric, centred open interval is removed are studied. Using the arithmetical properties of the binary expansion of the points on the boundary of the removed interval, we study properties such as topological transitivity, the specification property and intrinsic ergodicity. The properties of the function that associates to each hole $(a,b)$ the topological entropy of the attractor of the considered dynamical system are also shown. For these purposes, a subshift corresponding to an element of the lexicographic world is associated to each attractor and the mentioned properties are studied symbolically.

[en] COMPLEMENTS AND ADJUNCTS OF THE VERB: ATTEMPT OF ORGANISING THE CHAOS / [pt] COMPLEMENTOS E ADJUNTOS DO VERBO: TENTATIVA DE ORGANIZAÇÃO DO CAOSTHAIS TIBURCIO DUQUE 26 May 2011 (has links)
tampouco a natureza do(s) elemento(s) a ele ligado(s).
sintaxe e a semântica.
[en] This work carries a critical review of the traditional model of grammar,
specifically the Grammars by Cunha e Cintra (2001) and Rocha Lima (2007). Through
these analysis, we seek to prove that the manner how the concept of verb
complementation, as well as the notions of complementary and accessory terms and of
transitivity, have been traditionally presented in grammar and didactic books present a
number of gaps and incoherencies that have been causing difficulties in the
teaching/learning of our mother tongue [Portuguese]. Usually verbal transitivity is related
to the idea if there is or not a completion of the information transmitted by the verb,
without considering the circumstances and meaning in which the verb is being used or the
nature of the element(s) connected to it. We can thus state that which is being presented
to students as the grammar of the Portuguese language is a set of rules that often doesn’t
take into consideration the reality of linguistic facts. Aiming to find an analytical way that
could help us to solve the problem, we studied some more recent works that partially or
totally escape from the traditional orientation, such as Moderna Gramática Portuguesa
by Bechara (the 1999 edition onwards), Gramática de usos do português by Moura Neves
(2000), the Master’s thesis by Maria Eliana Duarte Alves de Brito (1986) and Gramática
de Valências by Busse e Vilela (1986). Departing from a functionalist orientation and
taking as basis the principle of dependency grammar, the goal of this work is to
demonstrate that two poles of analysis must be taken into consideration in the study of
phrases: syntax and semantic. Being the verb the central element of a phrase, it’s the verb
that determines the number of empty-spaces, besides of the morphosyntatic and semantic
properties of the actants that convey these empty-spaces. In this way, the distinction
between direct and indirect object of traditional grammar comes up as insufficient, being
thus necessary to identify a greater number of types of actant. Besides, we were able to
distinguish, through the analysis of the verb as central element, which terms must be
considered actants (complements) or circumstantial (adjuncts).

Representation of Psychopathic Characteristics in Fiction : A Transitivity Analysis of the Protagonist’s External and Internal Dialogue in the TV-series YouOlsson, Madeleine January 2021 (has links)
The series You (2018) challenges the traditional characteristics of a protagonist and introducesthe audience to a psychopathic protagonist with traits which are typically recognised in thetraditional villain. This study investigates the portrayal of the fictional character JoeGoldberg’s psychopathic characteristics by analysing the language used in his external andinternal dialogues. More specifically, drawing on the tools of transitivity analysis (Halliday1985), the study focuses on the process types and corresponding semantic roles assigned tothe pronouns I and you used by the protagonist over the course of three strategically selectedepisodes of the series. The results of the qualitative and quantitative transitivity analysis ofinternal and external dialogues throughout three chosen episodes shows that in the internaldialogues Joe appears analytical and assigns attributes and actions to you which correspond tothe mental representation of the object of his desire, Beck. While Joe’s internal dialoguesascribe some appealing attributes to Beck, the transitivity analysis also shows that he identifiestraits of vulnerability, such as lack of confidence and being indolent in reaching her goals. Incontrast, Joe’s approach in the external dialogues continuously appears to project him as ahumble person who puts the needs of others before his own, expressing deep considerationand understanding of the needs and emotions of others. The audience is introduced to hismanipulative behaviour by this contrast between his external and internal dialogues, which ishighlighted by the transitivity analysis in the present study.

Essays in Social Choice and Econometrics:Zhou, Zhuzhu January 2021 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Uzi Segal / The dissertation studies the property of transitivity in the social choice theory. I explain why we should care about transitivity in decision theory. I propose two social decision theories: redistribution regret and ranking regret, study their properties of transitivity, and discuss the possibility to find a best choice for the social planner. Additionally, in the joint work, we propose a general method to construct a consistent estimator given two parametric models, one of which could be incorrectly specified. In “Why Transitivity”, to explain behaviors violating transitivity, e.g., preference reversals, some models, like regret theory, salience theory were developed. However, these models naturally violate transitivity, which may not lead to a best choice for the decision maker. This paper discusses the consequences and the possible extensions to deal with it. In “Redistribution Regret and Transitivity”, a social planner wants to allocate resources, e.g., the government allocates fiscal revenue or parents distribute toys to children. The social planner cares about individuals' feelings, which depend both on their assigned resources, and on the alternatives they might have been assigned. As a result, there could be intransitive cycles. This paper shows that the preference orders are generally non-transitive but there are two exceptions: fixed total resource and one extremely sensitive individual, or only two individuals with the same non-linear individual regret function. In “Ranking Regret”, a social planner wants to rank people, e.g., assign airline passengers a boarding order. A natural ranking is to order people from most to least sensitive to their rank. But people's feelings can depend both on their assigned rank, and on the alternatives they might have been assigned. As a result, there may be no best ranking, due to intransitive cycles. This paper shows how to tell when a best ranking exists, and that when it exists, it is indeed the natural ranking. When this best does not exist, an alternative second-best group ranking strategy is proposed, which resembles actual airline boarding policies. In “Over-Identified Doubly Robust Identification and Estimation”, joint with Arthur Lewbel and Jinyoung Choi, we consider two parametric models. At least one is correctly specified, but we don't know which. Both models include a common vector of parameters. An estimator for this common parameter vector is called Doubly Robust (DR) if it's consistent no matter which model is correct. We provide a general technique for constructing DR estimators (assuming the models are over identified). Our Over-identified Doubly Robust (ODR) technique is a simple extension of the Generalized Method of Moments. We illustrate our ODR with a variety of models. Our empirical application is instrumental variables estimation, where either one of two instrument vectors might be invalid. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2021. / Submitted to: Boston College.
