Freight Truck Traffic Associated with the Port of Oakland: A Case Study of Roadway Impacts

Hinkamp, James 01 December 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The Port of Oakland (“Port”) is the 5th largest container seaport by volume in the U.S. and the largest in Northern California. Maritime shipping activity at the Port exceeds 2 million import and export twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers annually. Containers may be full or empty, but nonetheless typically require hinterland shipment and intermodal transfer between maritime and land-based freight distribution systems. The freight trucking mode (“drayage”) handles approximately 80% of all TEU throughput at the Port, thus constituting the majority of landside Port traffic. The Port is also situated adjacent to dense urban development thereby exacting certain external impacts. Drayage impacts on regional roadway infrastructure proximate to the Port are explored, to expand knowledge of freight network conditions and relevant policies addressing the topic in the San Francisco Bay Area. Statistical regression analysis and elasticity results estimate a certain level of impact on nearby freight corridors of I-80, I-680, and I-880. Drayage traffic has continued to increase since 2000, as a function of increasing TEU throughput occurring at the Port. Policies to address stable freight flow and infrastructure maintenance are ongoing, although additional studies are also recommended to ascertain comprehensive network impacts.

Elencou-se e categorizou-se cada possibilidade sonora expandida encontrada nessas obras / Abstract: The thesis investigates the works of composers Edino Krieger (1928) (Ritmata 1974 for solo guitar ), Chico Mello (1958) ( Do Lado do Dedo, 1987 for solo guitar and Dança for Guitar Quartet, 1986) and Arthur Kampela (1960) ( Percussion Study 1.1991-93 , for solo guitar) aiming to create a guide to interpreting and writing extended technique in Brazil. The works permeate the productive one that extends from 1974 to 1994 and investigated concepts and trends in technical overview of the expanded national and international historical way. Such investigation was aimed at addressing the complex features in terms of timbre and rhythmic- percussive procedures. Articulatory variables procedures (diversified plucking, tapping and percussive procedures) implementing by the guitarists imply improvement and enrichment of the quality of the aesthetic repertoire. These procedures consist of creative processes viability acoustic and mechanical fit, instrumental support and materials for clarity and feasibility in the works. Every extended sound found in these works was listed and categorized / Doutorado / Processos Criativos / Doutor em Música

How to develop a modern website : Is responsive web design the future of web developing?

Carlstedt, Fanny, Rask, Matilda January 2013 (has links)
The IT industry is constantly evolving and it's more or less a requirement today for web developers to be familiar with and to be able to develop for all platforms. A technique that has taken hold and is now widely used is responsive design. Developing responsive design means adapting the layout to the viewing environment; the screen size. Another useful method when developing for different devices is the mobile first theory, which means developing for the mobile screen first. This is done to scale down the site and to clear unnecessary information in order to provide a better user experience. In this work we have developed a new design for the site greenb.se, using the mobile first theory to create a responsive website.

The Dacke War, a peasant uprising in Sweden : Counter-insurgency, a timeless phenomenon

Johansson, Daniel January 2016 (has links)
Uprising and insurgency has always been present during history. Military theorists have been studying various uprisings during history in order to develop solutions how to counter uprisings and insurgency. Current theories involving counter-insurgency are in some way influenced by on-going conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. With the possibility of being type casted, the theories of David Kilcullen is based on US experiences from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and form the basic foundation of numerous national strategies when it comes to counter-insurgency and policy-making.  The purpose of this study is to assess in what way Kilcullen´s theories are without causality and in what way they are timeless as the theory form the basis of several nations modern counter-insurgency strategies. The study has been done by appliqueing Kilcullen´s theories on the actions taken by Gustav Vasa during the Dacke War.  The result shows great deviation when it comes to the amount of violence being used.  It is not possible to confirm Kilcullen´s theories being applicable studying a historical uprising characterised by great violence. The study does on the other hand show acts of non-violent actions taken by Gustav Vasa that correlates with the theories of David Kilcullen.  As a result the study shows evidence of causality and the theories seemingly being a result of the present situation. Therefore the Kilcullen theories can not be seen as timeless.

Os 120 anos da vida do homem: uma análise contextual / The 120 years of human life: a contextual analysis

Hubner, Manu Marcus 14 August 2015 (has links)
Through the numbers, men are able to compare, sort, measure and quantify everything there is around them. Besides their use for mathematics, many numbers have symbolic meanings. In the Hebrew Bible, numbers are frequent, and have different functions and meanings. Some numbers are highlighted, such as the number one hundred and twenty, used to measure or counting of time, space (areas or territories), weight, people or animals. This number can be found in the Book of Genesis (6:3), as a measure of time, at the moment when a limit of one hundred and twenty years is decreed as the maximum life expectancy of man a punishment for man\'s transgressions comparable to the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:23-24) or the confusion of speech during the episode of the Tower of Babel (Gen. 11:7). This decree is established on an interpolation of a seemingly mythological, laconic narrative in which beings known as the \"sons of God\" had relationships to the \"daughters of men\", giving rise to offspring known as \"giants\" or \"heroes\". The number one hundred and twenty is related to the period of one hundred and twenty years in which Noah built the ark to survive the flood (Gen. 6), to one hundred and twenty days in which Moses was on Mount Sinai in three forty-day periods each (Ex 24 :12 -18 , 32:15 , 30-31 , 34:4, 29), as well as the conventional period of three generations of forty years each, exemplified by the covenant of God with the people of Israel: \" ... keep all His rules and laws that I am prescribing to you you, your children and your childrens children\" (Deut. 6:2). Thus, although the number one hundred and twenty has a huge amount of dividers, its subdivision into three periods or generations of forty years each has a symbolism that instigates the investigation.
