Adaptive Fourier Analysis For Unequally-Spaced Time Series Data

Liang, Hong 22 May 2002 (has links)
Fourier analysis, Walsh-Fourier analysis, and wavelet analysis have often been used in time series analysis. Fourier analysis can be used to detect periodic components that have sinusoidal shape; however, it might be misleading when the periodic components are not sinusoidal. Walsh-Fourier analysis is suitable for revealing the rectangular trends of time series. The flaw of the Walsh-Fourier analysis is that Walsh functions are not periodic. The resulting Walsh-Fourier analysis is more difficult to interpret than classical Fourier analysis. Wavelet analysis is very useful in analyzing and describing time series with gradual frequency changes. Wavelet analysis also has a shortcoming by giving no exact meaning to the concept of frequency because wavelets are not periodic functions. In addition, all three analysis methods above require equally-spaced time series observations. In this dissertation, by using a sequence of periodic step functions, a new analysis method, adaptive Fourier analysis, and its theory are developed. These can be applied to time series data where patterns may take general periodic shapes that include sinusoids as special cases. Most importantly, the resulting adaptive Fourier analysis does not require equally-spaced time series observations. / Ph. D.

Pastoral guidance of the "unequally yoked" marriage partners / Petria Magdalena Theron

Theron, Petria Magdalena January 2004 (has links)
This study deals with problems of the unequally yoked marriage partners (a couple where one is a Christian and the other not). The practical theological model of Zerfass was followed by establishing a basis-, a meta- and a practice theory. The basis theoretical perspective shows that God forbade mixed marriages in the Old Testament due to the danger that His people could be lured into heathen practices. In the New Testament, Paul warns Christians not to many unbelievers. Unequally yoked marriages happened when one of the partners got converted after the marriage. Paul's advice to believers is that divorce is permissible, but the decision lies exclusively with the unbeliever. If the unbeliever wants to leave, the believer must let him/her go. Peter's advice to the believing wife is that she must submit to her unbelieving husband and not say a word, as he may be won over for Christ through her deferential behaviour. From the metatheoretical perspective, the literature consulted shows that religious commitment and homogamy have a positive effect on marriages. Believers in unequally yoked marriages revealed in the empirical study the problems they experience and how they cope. A relatively fulfilled marriage is possible. Pastors consulted in the empirical study want to help couples to accept each other and to learn to live with their differences. The pastors focused mostly on the believer's relationship with God. Guidelines for a possible model which pastors can follow in their pastoral guidance of the unequally yoked couple are given and focus primarily on the believing partner. Prayer and Scripture are fundamental in the pastoral guidance. / Thesis (M.A.)--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2004.

Návrh a analýza synchronních strojů s permanentními magnety a soustředěným vinutím / Design and analysis of PMSM with concentrated winding

Macek, Pavel January 2015 (has links)
Permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) are widely used in many industrial applications. This thesis starts with familiarization with the properties and structure of each type of synchronous machines with permanent magnets. Subsequently there are described properties and possible division of AC winding types. Afterward analytical designs of four machines with two different types of winding were realized. These designs were compared by means of simulations using the RMxprt program and their properties were subsequently verified by method of finite element using the Maxwell 2D program. Evaluation and comparison in terms of utility properties for all designs of machines were performed at the conclusion of this thesis.

The impact of parsing methods on recurrent neural networks applied to event-based vehicular signal data / Påverkan av parsningsmetoder på återkommande neuronnät applicerade på händelsebaserad signaldata från fordon

Max, Lindblad January 2018 (has links)
This thesis examines two different approaches to parsing event-based vehicular signal data to produce input to a neural network prediction model: event parsing, where the data is kept unevenly spaced over the temporal domain, and slice parsing, where the data is made to be evenly spaced over the temporal domain instead. The dataset used as a basis for these experiments consists of a number of vehicular signal logs taken at Scania AB. Comparisons between the parsing methods have been made by first training long short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural networks (RNN) on each of the parsed datasets and then measuring the output error and resource costs of each such model after having validated them on a number of shared validation sets. The results from these tests clearly show that slice parsing compares favourably to event parsing.

O papel da jurisprudência no Processo Civil contemporâneo / The role of case law in the contemporary Civil Procedure

Daniela Pereira Madeira 26 October 2012 (has links)
847, 1 do projeto concluído no Senado Federal). / The correct use of case law will lead Brazilian society to a greater judicial stability that complies with the principle of equality, not only before legal rules as well as before judicial norms. It should be avoided the discrepancy of judgments related to the same matter, which unequally treat the ones in the same circumstances, thus avoiding the long judicial journey in order to obtain a uniform judgment for similar situations. The principle of equality aims to ensure that everyone receives equal law treatment and on the other hand, assures that all judges should decide in the same way when they come across similar situations. The jurisprudence as it reflects the interpretation of the rule, should be stable and predictable, in order to guide the conduct of citizens as it states the highest Court understanding on a particular matter. An unstable and unpredictable rule does not create lawl certainty nor the social peace that one can reasonably expect. The application of case law in time, by means of its modulation, earns new contours due its legal provision in the Civil Procedure Code Project. The change of a settled understanding claims for an adequate and specific reasoning, considering the need for stability of legal relations (art. 847, 1 of the completed project in the Senate). This increases the value of the legal certainty principle and of legitimate expectations principle that should have as one of their consequences that the legitimate expectation of the claimer is respected by applying him the old and more beneficial ruling jurisprudence. In this context, the aim for an effective procedural reform should be pursued, besides the procedural celerity and the efficiency of judicial acts, and also the standardization of jurisprudence. An unique agenda of conduct for the claimants should be desired as a goal. And this can only be achieved when there is a standardization and application of prevailing jurisprudence.
