Design and Implementation of Simulator Mechanisms of Architecture Description Language

In the age of system-on-chip designs, design complexity of systems increases continuingly. This results in difficulty of design convergence. In design exploration of system architectures, we need to design, specify, and verify system designs effectively. By employing an architecture description language (ADL), we can effectively support specification and verification of system level designs. Existing ADLs have certain de-efficiencies in specification capabilities. We designed and improved specification capabilities in our architecture description language. Specification techniques in our ADL include behavioral description, structural description, regular structure description, built-in architecture feature description, and data integration description. In this thesis research, we focus on supporting verification capability of our ADL. We designed a simulator of the ADL. The simulation mechanisms include language input design, simulation data structure construction, behavioral simulation, structural simulation, regular architecture simulation, built-in architecture feature simulation, and data integration mechanism. With the ADL simulator, we can verify functionality and performance of architecture designs specified in the ADL. Simulation results can thus be used to guide design exploration and help design convergence.

Universal Product Design: Transforming User Activity Into Product Function

Many people have disabilities and would like to have all of the amenities typical of daily life. Universal product design is important in designing for the disabled and creating user-friendly products for all people. The goal of this thesis is to develop a universal product method by understanding how user activity closely resembles product function. The research results include a twenty product pair study in which a universal and typical product were compared. An activity diagram and functional model for each product in the product pair were the design tools used for this comparison. User activities were used to cluster product function changes. In addition, design changes such as functional, morphological and parametric were identified between the universal and typical product. The result was an action-function diagram showing the clusters and design changes for all of the twenty product pairs. An interactive GUI universal product design repository detailing the information from the action-function diagrams was created and used for eventual modification of typical products to make them universal. A universal product family was created using a user-centric universal design method developed because of the universal product design repository. Furthermore, user disability ratings from the ICF helped to expand the database and make creation of a universal product family more focused on levels of disability. The useful application of the research will be in developing a universal design method for product designers and engineers. This method will be broken down into a design structure matrix representation of functions from a universal product family of household kitchen appliances. In addition, an embodied concept for a product family consisting of existing accessible dispensers will be used to validate the universal design method developed from the twenty product study. Both case studies will serve as an example of how to extend universal design principles to a wide range of consumer product categories.

The initiative for this project was taken by Benteler Engineering Services, as a result of having identified areas of improvement, in designated accessible areas like the wheelchair spot onboard buses. Depending on a wheelchair to be able to move around can understandably be challenging. Public transport is a common good in today`s society, however despite the measures taken towards adjusting to accessible needs, the majority of those being disabled chose different alternatives of transportation. This is due to reasons such as the drivers' poor attitude, furthermore the limitations of the space allocated to accessible needs, as people with strollers also use these spots onboard. Also, some wheelchair users find the rides unsafe, as they could easily fall over during without the appropriate space for them onboard the buses etc. These are only a few reasons why other options are sought out, i.e. private cars or taxis. The focus of the project has been to create a dialogue with the wheelchair users, in order to address the issues and challenges they are often faced with. To be successful in doing so, various unions have been contacted, followed by questionnaires and workshops with people from all professions – Engineers, bus drivers and those who assist the disabled. The result of this project is a 3D drawing designed in Catia V5. The drawing contains the four sub-functions that the users expressed most worries of. Kant's Typo, and the Limits of the Law

This dissertation develops a Kantian philosophical framework for understanding our individual obligations under public law. Because we have a right to do anything that is not wrong, the best interpretation of Immanuel Kant's Universal Principle of Right tracks the two ways--material and formal--in which actions can be wrong. This interpretation yields surprising insights, most notably a novel formulation of Kant's standard for formal wrongdoing. Because the wrong-making property of a formally wrong action does not depend on whether or not the action in question has been prohibited by statute, Kant's legal philosophy is consistent with a natural law theory of public crime. Moreover, because the law can obligate us only by establishing a universal external incentive to obey its commands, statutes that impose only fines on nominal violators do not constrain our lawful options. Instead, if they are otherwise just, such statutes must be regarded as rightful permissive laws, according to which we may incur liabilities through our voluntary choices.

Κλάσεις καθολικών και αμφιμονοσήμαντων συναρτήσεων

Το αντικείμενο αυτής της εργασίας είναι η μελέτη κάποιων κλάσεων καθολικών συναρτήσεων. Οι κλάσεις αυτές περιέχουν συναρτήσεις μιας μιγαδικής μεταβλητής, οι οποίες πραγματοποιούν εντυπωσιακές προσεγγίσεις πάνω σε συμπαγή υποσύνολα του μιγαδικού επιπέδου. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, θα ασχοληθούμε με δύο κλάσεις καθολικών σειρών Taylor, και με μία κλάση καθολικών συναρτήσεων ως προς τις παραγώγους. Καθολική σειρά Taylor, με την έννοια του Β. Νεστορίδη, ονομάζουμε μία συνάρτηση f , ολόμορφη σε κάποιο ανοιχτό σύνολο Ω ⊂ 􀀀 , η οποία με τη βοήθεια των μερικών αθροισμάτων του αναπτύγματος Taylor γύρω από ένα κέντρο ζ∈Ω, προσεγγίζει όλα τα πολυώνυμα ομοιόμορφα στα συμπαγή υποσύνολα του Ωc , με συνεκτικό συμπλήρωμα. Αυτή την κλάση συναρτήσεων την συμβολίζουμε με U(Ω,ζ). Επιπλέον υπάρχει η ασθενέστερη κλάση 1 U (Ω,ζ) , των καθολικών σειρών Taylor με την έννοια του Luh, η οποία περιέχει συναρτήσεις που πραγματοποιούν του ίδιου τύπου προσεγγίσεις, αλλά μόνο σε συμπαγή υποσύνολα του c Ω . Στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο, παρουσιάζουμε κάποια γενικά αποτελέσματα, που είναι προαπαιτούμενα για ότι θα ακολουθήσει. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, διατυπώνουμε και αποδεικνύουμε το κλασσικό θεώρημα Baire που ισχύει σε πλήρεις χώρους καθώς και κάποια τοπολογικά λήμματα που ισχύουν στο μιγαδικό επίπεδο. Το πρώτο λήμμα είναι ένα κλασσικό αποτέλεσμα που μας εξασφαλίζει την ύπαρξη εξαντλούσας ακολουθίας συμπαγών συνόλων ενός ανοιχτού υποσυνόλου του 􀀀 , με κατάλληλες ιδιότητες. Το δεύτερο λήμμα είναι ένα πιο ειδικό και τεχνικό αποτέλεσμα, οφείλεται στον Β.Νεστορίδη και θεωρείται σημαντικό βήμα στην μελέτη των καθολικών σειρών Taylor. Επίσης, αναφέρουμε τα γνωστά προσεγγιστικά θεωρήματα των Runge και Mergelyan με την βοήθεια των οποίων, μπορούμε να μελετάμε μόνο τα πολυώνυμα και να έχουμε αποτελέσματα που ισχύουν σε γενικότερες συναρτήσεις. Στο δεύτερο κεφάλαιο θα παρουσιάσουμε την απόδειξη του Β. Νεστορίδη, ότι η κλάση U(Ω,ζ) είναι Gδ και πυκνό υποσύνολο του Η(Ω), με την τοπολογία που αναφέραμε παραπάνω. Το αποτέλεσμα αυτό είναι ιδιαίτερα εντυπωσιακό, διότι μας αποκαλύπτει ότι με μερικά αθροίσματα αναπτύγματος της ίδιας συνάρτησης, μπορούμε να προσεγγίσουμε όλα τα πολυώνυμα πάνω σε μια πολύ μεγάλη κλάση συμπαγών υποσυνόλων. Στο κεφάλαιο 3, θα παρουσιάσουμε την απόδειξη ότι η κλάση (Ω) der U είναι Gδ και πυκνό υποσύνολο στο Η(Ω). Όπως το παραπάνω αποτέλεσμα, έτσι και αυτό έχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον, αφού μας εξασφαλίζει την ύπαρξη πολλών συναρτήσεων στην κλάση (Ω) der U . Το τελευταίο κεφάλαιο αποτελεί το κύριο μέρος της παρούσας εργασίας. Βασικός στόχος μας είναι να αποδείξουμε την ύπαρξη 1-1 συναρτήσεων στην τομή των κλάσεων 1( , ) ( ) der UΩζ IU Ω (βλ.[5]). Σημειώνουμε ότι για αυτό το αποτέλεσμα πρέπει το Ω να είναι ειδικότερα χωρίο Jordan. Στην 3 βιβλιογραφία έχει αποδειχτεί ότι η κλάση U(D,0) δεν περιέχει 1-1 συναρτήσεις, και μάλιστα είναι ξένη με την κλάση Nevanlinna οπότε δεν περιμένουμε από τις συναρτήσεις αυτές να έχουν καλές ιδιότητες (βλ.[14]). Αντίθετα το αποτέλεσμα που παρουσιάζουμε υποδηλώνει ότι το φαινόμενο αυτό δεν εμφανίζεται στις υπόλοιπες δύο κλάσεις καθολικών συναρτήσεων και δείχνει πόσο διαφορετική είναι η κλάση U(Ω,ζ) από την κλάση U1(Ω,ζ ). / -

An Improved Approach For Soil Moisture Estimation By Employing Illumination-Corrected Data In A Modifed Ts-VI Method

There are a great number of publications that apply different methods to estimate soil moisture from optical satellite imagery. However, none of the proposed methods have considered correcting solar illumination error that is caused by variation in topography before estimating soil moisture. In this research, an integrated approach is developed to improve the estimation of soil moisture. The integration is represented by removing the solar-illumination error from the data. Several modifications were made in the Ts-VI space based on the Universal Triangle Relationship. The data used in the research are obtained from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite. The research results show that the surface-illumination error, which is caused by variation in topography, misleads the estimation of soil moisture index. Based on statistical and visual analysis, the results are improved with removing error. The method is further enhanced with the application of enhanced vegetation index (EVI) to the Ts-VI relationship.

Ne tik Lietuvos, bet ir viso pasaulio rinkose vis dar trūksta universalių aprangos aksesuarų su lengvomis transformacijomis, kurių dėka veiklios moterys sutaupytų laiko norėdamos pritaikyti juos pagal dienos poreikius. Taip pat gausu iš trečiųjų šalių atveţtų prekių, kurios yra ne tik kad nevykusios profesionalių dizainerių kūrinių interpretacijos, bet ir prastos kokybės. Išanalizavus, kaip Europos ir JAV dizaineriai jungia tarpusavyje aprangos ir aksesuarų stilius, buvo sukurti du aksesuarų komplektai. Pirmąjį sudaro krepšys- rankinė, dirţas- mini sijonas ir kepuraitė- kaklo papuošalas, antrąjį- krepšys- rankinė, dirţas- apykaklė, kepurė- beretė. Tai savarankiški aksesuarų komplektai, kurių pagalba galima sukurti skirtingus įvaizdţius. Jų išvaizda ir funkcija keičiama uţtrauktukų pagalba, kurie paslepia ar atidengia papildomus plotus, taip suteikdami gaminiams naują išvaizdą ar funkciją. Buvo pasirinkta turkio ir marmuruotos 3-ų spalvų derinio odos kombinacija. Transformuojamų gaminių suprojektavimas ir gamyba pareikalauja daugiau laiko, medţiagos bei furnitūros sąnaudų, nei standartiniai gaminiai. Vis dėlto, galimybė pirkėjui turėti daugiafunkcinį gaminį vietoje įprasto – visada viliojanti, taigi paklausa turėtų būti nepaisant to, kad kaina šiek tiek aukštesnė. Analising, how deigners of Europe and USA connects mutual styles, to be proper for buisy man for various life cases, were created two sets of accesories. First composition is made of bag-purse, belt-mini skirt and cap necklace, another one - bag-purse, belt-collar and cap-barret. It‘s independant accessories complects, which helps to create different styles. Those complects view and function can be changed by using zippers. It can hide or show additional areas of leather and that way it creates new look or function. It was decided to use turqoise and variet leather (which was coloried with 3 different colours) combination. After analysis of our days designers creation, conclusion is that universal accessories idea is not new, but still not enough explotated too. This type of accessories is more complicated than the regular one, so to create it need more time and to make it- more leather and other measures. Back Away From the Lecture Notes: Using a Simulation Game to Engage Social Studies Haters

Simulation games may increase student engagement in the social studies classroom. Papert (1991) states that constructionism allows students to build, whether tangible or intangible objects, and that the building and conversation around the building allows student to learn best. In this study, the researcher observed and interviewed participants, as well as wrote in a journal about the experience, regarding playing a simulation game about the Electoral College. The researcher utilized en vivo coding to facilitate data interpretation. The participants were 18 year-old students at a suburban high school in a metropolitan area in the southeastern United States. These participants were selected by self-identifying themselves as ‘social studies haters.’ The researcher gathered data to determine if the simulation game has a relationship to engagement in the social studies classroom and examined with the simulation game, eLECTIONS, exercised elements of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) theory to engage the participants. The researcher determined that self-identified social studies haters at this school more strongly engaged in the social studies content when they participated in the simulation game on the Electoral College. The research also determined UDL enhanced engagement in the simulation game.
