Representationer av kvinnor : En undersökning om hur kvinnor representeras i utställningar på Museum Gustavianum och Uppsala universitets Myntkabinett / Representations of women : A study on how women are represented in exhibitions at the Museum Gustavianum and the Uppsala University Coin Cabinet.

Lundqvist, Lisa January 2016 (has links)
This essay studies how women are represented in three museum exhibitions. The exhibitions are the Museum Gustavianum exhibition of the history of the University from the 1800s to the present day, the viking exhibition Valsgärde and the Uppsala University Coin Cabinet. The methods used in the study are Thick Description and Wera Grahn’s analyticcal tool, Five Questions to an Exhibition. As the theoretical foundations of my study I have used Hirdman's gender system and Butler’s concepts of performance and the heterosexual matrix.   The results of the study show that women and men are displayed in different places in the exhibitions. The language and the way of speaking about women in the exhibitions often differed from how the men were presented. It also became clear that there were few items related to women in the exhibitions. Based on how women are represented in the exhibitions, one can conclude that museums are part of the gender system as maintainers and co-creators.

Mellan bildningsideal och besparingskrav : En studie av Uppsala universitetsbiblioteks styrdokument 1999-2013 / Between Ideals of Bildung and Economisation Requirements : a study of Uppsala University Library’s Documents of Rule and Regulation 1999−2013

Kotka, Agnes January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how structural changes are depicted as well as formally brought about in the documents of rule and regulation of Uppsala University and Uppsala University Library the years 1999−2013. Beside the documents of rule and regulation, also documents that is commenting on (or in other ways relates to) these are investigated. The study is based both in organizational theory and modern rhetorical theory. The results show that the University to a certain extent gained an increased possibility to micromanage the library’s working routines during the time span covered and the study traces the consequences this had on the library organization and reactions it evoked among the leaders and representatives of the library staff This raised a debate between representatives from the University library and its mother organization, the University, regarding at which level in the whole organization decisions regarding the library’s forms of funding and everyday praxis. In addition also the development at the University library at Lund University is more briefly surveyed, as a complementing picture. The thesis is a two years master’s thesis written at the Department of Archive, Library and Museum Studies at Uppsala University.

Kommunikation i byggprojektering : En studie över användandet av agila ärendehanteringsverktyg inom byggprojektering / Communication within construction planning

Roland Sandblad, Maria, Nilsson, Johannes January 2018 (has links)
The construction industry is a conservative industry that has for a long time been seen as recalcitrant and traditional, which has resulted in a slow development in business communication systems. This report covers how communication in project planning looks like today. The report also sheds light on opinions this branch of industry has of agile project leading- and communication systems. The study that was performed provided information on how the users view Jira, the agile project leading and communication system, and how it operates. To examine this a qualitative investigation was done in the form of interviews with project leaders, coordinators and consultants. To achieve a somewhat wider response group a survey was conducted through an Internet based questionnaire. The purpose of the study was to identify how coworkers in a Jirabased project feel about the program’s usefulness, if it helps or hinders productivity, if there are any possible features that need improving, and what the users think about the work environment of Jira. The result of the study was a positive opinion of both Jira as a software program and the overall change in project communication opportunities. The study also provided ideas on how to adapt Jira to the project planning branch of the construction industry. In addition, the study also resulted in suggestions on how the company can improve their usage of Jira in the case study for the thesis.

Many Nations also had articles specifying the tasks of their archivists. The methods used in the archival management varied to some degree between different Nations. Concerning how well the archives was being managed they were generally managed a little defectively, even if this varied between the Nations. "Vi är ju inget museum!" En undersökning av Uppsala studentnationers kulturarvshantering / “We’re not a Museum!” A Research of the Cultural Heritage Management at the Student Nations of Uppsala University

Bergkvist, Moa, Lönner, Pernilla January 2011 (has links)
The thesis investigates how Uppsala University student nations steward their cultural heritage. The survey targets how student nations manage their cultural heritage, what financial priority they give it, their attitude towards it, and their awareness of it.A qualitative study of semi-structured interviews with representatives from 11 out of 13 student nations in Uppsala was implemented. The theoretical framework is based on the theory of David Lowenthal on the importance of cultural heritage, Susan Pearce’s theory on collecting, and Pierre Bourdieu’s theory on cultural capital. To investigate the importance of cultural objects theories by Ivo Maroević, Annette Weiner, and Igor Kopytoff was applied. The survey shows that stewardship of cultural heritage at Uppsala student nations is poor and in need of reform. The survey also shows that the status of the nations’ antiquarians and other responsible officers is low and that antiquarians feel neglected in the priorities of the nation's financial plans. The thesis suggests collaboration between the student nations and Uppsala University as a solution to these problems. This two years master’s thesis could serve as a point of departure for such an initiative.

Communications solution for refugee settlement : Investigation of nRF24L01+ modules for use in a communications network

Engquist, Martin, Bethdavid, Simon January 2018 (has links)
The main purpose of this thesis is to test a communications solution for the second to largest refugee settlement in the world, Bidi Bidi. A solution where it is possible to inform the refugees with necessary information, for example that the water at a specific location is currently contaminated or that food is provided at another location. The idea is to use nRF24L01+ modules which operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency band and send information through various ways. This includes turning LEDs' on and off, sending text Strings and streaming audio. The results showed that the modules are too unreliable for a refugee settlement. They also showed that it is not possible to send other types' of data while streaming audio, but there could be workarounds. It is clear that more knowledge and further investigations are needed.

Business Intelligence in Uppsala Univeristy - Do academic institutions practice what they preach?

Bakkalian, Gastón, Rådemar, Joakim January 2015 (has links)
Business Intelligence (BI) is not a new concept. However, it is still complicated to work with it due to the different views and ways of implementation. This study has adopted an organisational oriented approach of BI: getting the right information, to the right people, at the right time. It was found in this study that poorly implemented BI features and inadequate information infrastructure may lead to workarounds in order to compensate for missing or lacking features and systems. This case study has been conducted at the faculty of Social Sciences of Uppsala University (UU) where a set of interviews were conducted to individuals on one of the key positions at the university; the Director of Studies (DoS). The aim was to map out the key processes and head activities of the DoS’s and evaluate them through the BI view of this thesis. Being the conclusion a concrete mapping of the DoS head activities as well as BI assessment of the current situation of the studied departments. Some improvements have been proposed in order to remedy the lacking of valuable and critical features and systems. However, it was found that the current system infrastructure and problem area is too immature in order to implement any form of integration. Several studies on key positions and influential systems need to be conducted in order to exhaustively map out and discover the problem area.

Akademiska sjukhuset : Befintliga geotekniska och hydrogeologiska förhållanden och dess markförutsättningar för framtida byggnationer / Uppsala University Hospital : Current geotechnical and hydrogeological conditions and their potential for future construction

Bar-Am, Maya January 2021 (has links)
Uppsala University Hospital is a large institution of vital societal function and many new buildings have been constructed and others rebuild during the past ten years. The hospital area is located on Uppsalaåsen and within a primary protection zone, i.e. there is a complex geology and requirements for the protection of the groundwater used for Uppsala’s water supply. The ground contains large sections of clay and has drastic changes in soil types. This has resulted in a subsidence problem within the hospital area. Region Uppsala has several plans regarding upcoming constructions at Uppsala University Hospital and due to the complicated soil situation is an investigation of the geotechnics and hydrogeology within the area sought for. The focus of this master thesis is on subsidence capacity and the ground water’s pressure levels. Four zones within the hospital area have been pointed out by Region Uppsala for potential future construction projects. The zones are at the parking garage T3, production kitchen, NOP-complex and new cyclotron building. The master thesis was divided into three parts; locating the soil layer sequence, calculation of subsidence based on CRS tests and study of the ground water’s pressure level. The soil layer sequence was construed in GeoSuite based on 474 probes conducted by the consultant company Bjerking. The probs respective soil layer was interpolated and illustrated as level curves using Topocad. Eight cross-sections were made within the zones of extra interest and the sections were made from a 3D-model created in Civil 3D. The soil layers examined throughout the master thesis were filling material, clay, granular soil, rock and ground surface. The subsidence capacity and its time were calculated based on two CRS trials and max-, min- and average values of the ground water’s pressure levels under the hospital area was computed based on 20 years of daily data retrieved from a measuring well in Stadsträdgården facilitated by Uppsala Vatten. The results confirm the ridge complex geology consisting of varying depths of clay under the hospital area. Several buildings will probably require deep foundations, e.g. the parking garage T3. The results also show areas of shallow layers of clay indicating lower risk of subsidence and hence will require a shallow foundation. The conducted subsidence calculations indicate that the parking garage T3 will sink 20 to 70 cm after 158 to 213 years if no foundation is implemented, which is in line with the current subsidence occurring at the building. The ground water’s pressure level has had an average value of + 2.3 m (RH2000) during the last 20 years and will probably not fluctuate in the future due to the existing decision on water management. Hence, some buildings within certain parts of the hospital area will require permission prior to construction within the primary zone.  The results establish a valuable overview of the hydrogeology at Uppsala University Hospital and give indications regarding how the foundations in the zones of extra interest should be dimensioned sustainable and economically. However, more data is needed, e.g. additional probes and CRS trials, to gain an increased complexity of the hospital area in respect to soil layer sequences and subsidence tendency.

A study of risks of threats and violence toward hospital staff in relation to patient access to electronic medical records

Åkerstedt, Ulrika January 2015 (has links)
In 2012, the county of Uppland in Sweden launched a service granting patients online access to their electronic medical record (EMR), including the list of staff who have logged into the record (the “log list”). Patients seem predominantly positive to this service whereas many professionals, physicians specifically, have expressed concerns about, for example, increased risks of threats and violence towards healthcare staff. One year after launch the present study was conducted to examine whether staff whose patients had gained access to online EMRs experienced greater risks of threats and violence, and were exposed to more threats and violence, than those whose patients had not yet gained access. The extent to which professional role, gender, work experience and staff attitudes to the service were important factors was also examined. A total of 174 professionals at Uppsala University Hospital responded to a web survey (35% response rate). 83 represented the emergency department, whose patients had online EMR access, and 91 represented the psychiatric department, whose patients had not. 40% of all participating professionals, emergency physicians and psychiatric staff specifically, believed that risks of threats and violence increase after launch. The results did not, however, support a correlation between patient access to online EMRs and more incidents of threats and violence, and only one respondent reported that patient access had played any significant negative role in relation to an incident. These and other results may prove useful as the online EMR service is now being launched in other Swedish counties as well.
