Vertikalt växthus i Kiruna : Med spillvärme från LKABs gruvindustri / Vertical greenhouse in Kiruna : Utilizing waste heat from LKAB's mining industryJohnsson, Emma, Cheung, Virginia January 2013 (has links)
While the cities are expanding the demand for locally grown and organic crops is increasing. To be able to produce locally and more sustainable crops, one option could be to grow in a so-called vertical greenhouse. In Kiruna the largest ore mine in Sweden is operated by the company LKAB. Various processes in the mining industry lead to waste heat. In Kiruna, the climate is cold compared to most parts of Sweden, and therefore requires heating for the cultivation to be able to take place all year round in a greenhouse. The project’s task is to explore how to utilize waste heat from the mine to a vertical greenhouse in the context of a new office building at LKAB's mining area. LKAB's new office building has a square footprint on the ground with one of the corners in the south direction. The division between the greenhouse and the office can be simplified by the square divided diagonally where the southern half is the greenhouse and the northern half the office. Since the sunlight is limited in Kiruna the greenhouse walls has been design to adjust to the sun’s low position. The sun’s low position requires a sloped facade in the south direction. The greenhouse’s floor area decreases with each floor. As the external material for the greenhouse glass is used and as framing material steel is used. A hydroponically system is used where the seedlings are put directly in a circulating nutrient solution and in this way the system can be designed with horizontal pipes in several vertical cultivated floors. The greenhouse will be heated with waste heat from LKAB's industry, the project examines two alternatives of waste heat sources, and the result is that both of the alternatives studied can be used to heat the entire volume of the greenhouse.

Infrastructure and its impact on economic development : the case of South Africa and BrazilLazarus, Hilton 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MDevF (Business Management))--University of Stellenbosch, 2007. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study looks at South Africa and Brazil in a comparative sense to determine how infrastructure development and investment since 1970 to 2002 impacted not only on
aggregate GDP but also on social indicators such as gross national income (GNI), infant
mortality and literacy within these countries. Although Brazil is four times the size of South
Africa, the two countries have political and economic situations that are similar. The more
recent history of the two countries suggests that infrastructure development and
investment have received priority. The research methodology was to review related
literature, secondly to statistically measure the impact of infrastructure investment on the
factors mentioned using a linear regression model and, thirdly to analyze and discuss the
outcomes.
The role of government in infrastructure development is argued to be one of limited
capital investment and more of a regulatory one with the consequent result of crowding-in
private sector investment. Brazil has in recent times followed a route of public-private
partnerships with the South African government on the other hand being the principal
investor for infrastructure. The magnitude of elasticity of the impact of infrastructure in
both South Africa and Brazil was found to be unusually large implying an implausibly high
marginal rate of productivity for capital investment. This could be because of the
incompleteness of the data obtained. Furthermore, infrastructure investment in Brazil is
found to have a larger social impact than in South Africa, except for aggregate GDP.
In conclusion, the results of the statistical analysis corroborate the assertion of the various
literatures surveyed. The main findings of the analysis in this study do not conclusively
suggest that the path followed by Brazil through public-private partnerships has had a far
better effect than in the case of South Africa utilizing substantial government investment
to promote infrastructure development. Although the study was not geared towards the
effect of policies on the impact of infrastructure, especially on the social fabric of
developing countries, further research in this area could be undertaken. The impact of
individual measures of economic infrastructure such as railways, roads, ports, air travel,
telephones and electricity could also be researched to determine their economic impact in
South Africa and Brazil.
hoofbelegger in infrastruktuur is.
was.
infrastruktuurbelegging in Brasilië ‘n groter sosiale impak as in Suid-Afrika getoon, buiten

Reducing the deviations in manufacturing documents : A case study about deviations in manufacturing documentation and the measures that can reduce the number of deviations.Hagren, Christoffer, Hultgren, Jonas January 2020 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of the study is to create an understanding of the factors contributing to deviations in the internal document handling at a manufacturing company. When minimising the faults in the document it leads to higher effectiveness for the company. Method – A case study has been conducted at a company. The methods that were used to collect empirical data were interviews and document studies. The theoretical framework was found using a systematic review of what has been studied before. By combing the empirical data and the theoretical framework the studies purpose will be able to be reached. Findings – The study shows that a manufacturing company need to make sure that they use the employee’s competences since they have the best knowledge on how to manufacture the product. To use their competences the management of the company need to organize the company so that they can get a better view of the employee perspective. To minimise the faults, the disturbing elements need to be removed from the work environment since these distractions cause deviations. The digitalisation of the documents will remove most of the simple document faults, but the digital system must use continuous improvements to maximise the use of the system. Several different underlying factors play a role in why deviations occur, why it is important to monitor and work to improve all factors that cause deviations. From a sustainability perspective, there are reasons to expect a more well-functioning and pleasant workplace that increases social sustainability. Handling the document correct lowers the risk for disposal of products because of document deficiencies, and less raw material and energy will be wasted. Not wasting resources will also save money for the company since they will not need to throw away products. Implications – The results of the study can be used as guidance for organizations that operates in a similar situation with the same prerequisites as the case company. With the support of the study, a business can find the deviations in their document handling and learn how to reduce these. Limitations – The case study has been conducted on one company. If the case study had covered multiple companies, it would have reached greater reliability. Since several factors were considered significant to the study the depth of each factor has been limited.

Upper secondary English teachers’ knowledge, beliefs, and practices of assessing writing in Sweden: A survey studyMykhaylova, Valeriya January 2022 (has links)
Assessment of writing skills is a part of teachers’ everyday life. According to previous studies on a similar subject, teachers’ education in assessing writing is limited. The lack of education for teachers may lead to negative consequences for the whole educational system. For this reason, the purpose of this study focused on the analysis of English upper-secondary school teachers’ knowledge, beliefs, and practices in assessing writing in Sweden. The method for this study was adapted from Crusan et al. (2016) research. An Internet survey was used in order to receive information about teachers’ cognition. Firstly, the survey was published in different Facebook groups, and secondly, it was sent to upper-secondary teachers of English in different counties in Sweden via email. In total, 52 English teachers from upper-secondary schools participated in this study. The results showed that teachers’ knowledge, beliefs, and practices are co-dependent. Teachers need to be aware of their cognition regarding knowledge, beliefs, and practices. In-service teachers need to receive more training as a form of professional development, while institutions for pre-service teachers need to re-evaluate their educational plans. More research about teachers’ cognition and assessment of writing is needed in Sweden.
