Sanitární keramika / Sanitary Ceramics

Foret, Martin January 2014 (has links)
My thesis is a presentation of Jika Laufen for the international exhibition Expo 2015 in Milan. The work consists of designing and installing sinks into the exposure so that they are in a uniform manner. I designed the concept of the well for several reasons: the bathroom is an intimate space where it should be emphasized emotion , atmosphere and feelings. It is a space where a person should relax. The second aspect is that the ceramic has an organic origin, came from the ground and through the fire becomes very durable and solid. A no less important is the third aspect, exist on the context. Expo is an international exhibition and therefore the presentation of this forest exposure does not represent a Czech company, but also a Czech environment, where you will find beautiful nature and sources of known rivers. My concept is based on emotion and contrast materials. Delicate white ceramics have planted in a sharp stone and dark green leafy moss, creating a contrast full voltage . The exhibition of this type should not be missed even modern technology. That is my proposal represented feeler drain, which is around the perimeter of the sink hidden under the edge so as not to disturb the perception of the whole.

Magmatic water content and its effect on volcano explosivity; an FTIR investigation on the 2006 and 2010 eruption products of Merapi volcano, Indonesia / Magmatisk vattenhalt och dess effekt på vulkanexplosivitet; en FTIR-undersökning av utbrottsprodukterna från utbrotten under 2006 och 2010 av Merapi vulkanen, Indonesien

Seraphine, Nadhirah January 2018 (has links)
One of the most important volatiles in magma is water. In magma, water is incorporated in both the melt and in crystals, including hydrous and nominally anhydrous minerals (NAMs). The purpose of this study is to determine the role of magmatic water content in controlling volcano explosivity especially at Merapi volcano, Indonesia, which is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Here I apply clinopyroxene from two types of eruption products, lava and ash, to test the magmatic water content in the Merapi 2010 eruption. Both oriented and unoriented crystals were analysed using Fourier-Transformed Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to establish the clinopyroxene’s crystal water content. By combining the water content of clinopyroxene and geochemical data obtained from EPMA analysis, the magmatic water content is then estimated by inserting the data into the equation of O’Leary et al. (2010) [lnD= -4.2(60.2)16.5(60.5) VI[Al3+]-1.0(60.2) [Ca2+]]. I also investigated clinopyroxene crystals that were experimentally rehydrated, including four oriented crystals from a Merapi 2010 eruption ash sample annealed at a temperature of 700°C and pressure of 1 atm. Magmatic water contents of Merapi 2010 from rehydration experiments were then compared to the Merapi 2006 magmatic water content which were treated under the same conditions. The results revealed a wide variation between samples and among crystals taken from the same sample. However, oriented samples yielded a smaller variation between minimum and maximum clinopyroxene crystal water content and, overall, ash samples yielded higher water content in clinopyroxene than lava samples. The rehydration experiment significantly amplified clinopyroxene crystal water content by 3 to 7-fold compared to the result without the rehydration procedure. Comparison of data between the 2006 and 2010 Merapi eruptions demonstrates that there was a significant difference in magmatic water contents with the 2010 eruption displaying more than twice as much magmatic water than the 2006 eruption. The result implies that magmatic water plays potentially a crucial role in controlling explosivity of Merapi eruptions. Nyckelord: Merapi vulkan, NA

Silencing the voices of women : a case study on the effects of the "Supporting People" programme on survivors of domestic abuse in a support and housing association

Clarke, Dawn Elizabeth January 2008 (has links)
For centuries women have experienced domestic violence from men they know, as a consequence of which many turn to public services for support. Traditionally, these services have failed to provide adequate support, yet it is through these interactions with the services that abused women's lives are shaped and defined. Service providers therefore need to hear their voices in order to develop effective support services that enable survivors to 'move on' with their lives. A government initiative ¬- the Supporting People Programme (SPP) - has the potential to ensure that housing support providers develop their services in this manner. The main aim of the SPP is to place service users at the 'heart' of the system through user participation. Whilst this is certainly a step in the right direction, my concern is whether this actually happens or whether services adopt a tokenistic approach to user participation that marginalises and silences women survivors. My primary research question, therefore, is: 'What is the impact of the SPP on women survivors of domestic abuse?' Using a research design that included document analysis, observation and semi-structured interviews, I argue that the SPP has the potential to improve the lives of survivors and even to ameliorate, if not eradicate, domestic abuse. However, far from achieving this, the SPP through lack of commitment to ensuring that services actually meet the funding requirement of user participation continues to marginalise and silence the voices of women survivors.

Dispersion modelling of volcanic emissions / Spridningsmodellering av utsläpp från vulkaner

Dingwell, Adam January 2016 (has links)
Gases and particles released by volcanoes pose a serious hazard to humans and society. Emissions can be transported over long distances before being reduced to harmless concentrations. Knowing which areas are, or will be, exposed to volcanic emissions is an important part inreducing the impact on human health and society. In this thesis, the dispersion of volcanic emissions is studied using a set of atmospheric models. The work includes contribution to the development of the Lagrangian Particle Dispersion Model FLEXPART-WRF. Three case studies have been performed, one studying potential ash emissions from potential future eruptions on Iceland, a second covering SO2 emissions from Mt. Nyiragongo in D.R. Congo, and a third studying the SO2 emission rate of the Holuhraun eruption (Iceland) in 2014–2015. The first study covers volcanic ash hazard for air traffic over Europe. Three years of meteorological data are used to repeatedly simulate dispersion from different eruption scenarios. The simulations are used to study the probability of hazardous concentrations in ash in European airspace. The ash hazard shows a seasonal variation with a higher probability of efficient eastward transport in winter, while summer eruptions pose a more persistent hazard. In the second study, regional gas exposure around Mt. Nyiragongo is modelled using flux measurements to improve the description of the emission source. Gases are generally transported to the north-west in June–August and to the south-west in December–January. A diurnal variation due to land breeze around lake Kivu contributes to high concentrations of SO2 along the northern shore during the night. Potentially hazardous concentrations are occasionally reached in populated areas in the region, but mainly during the nights. The third study uses inverse dispersion modelling to determine the height and emission rates based on traverse measurements of the plume at 80–240 km from the source. The calculated source term yields better agreement with satellite observations compared to commonly used column sources. The work in this thesis presents improvements in dispersion modelling of volcanic emissions through improved models, more accurate representation of the source terms, and through incorporating new types of measurements into the modelling systems.

Etudes pétrographique et géochimique des échappements de fluides du Bassin de la Côte Est de l’île nord de Nouvelle-Zélande et modélisation de la lithosphère / Petrographical and geochemical studies of fluid vents from the East Coast Basin of the north island of New Zealand and modeling of the lithosphere

Sabin, Mikael 12 November 2012 (has links)
In 2004 and 2007, nine areas of fluids escapes structures (FES) with mud volcanoes (MVs), gas seeps (GSs) and springs, were sampled in the East Coast Basin (ECB) emerged part of New Zealand's north island. The grain size study indicates that the mud emitted by MVs, like surrounding rocks and decollement layers in the vicinity, is mainly composed of clays and silts. Clay fraction and whole rock XRD study revealed many similarities. Mud volcanoes, surrounding rocks and decollement layers have exactly the same mineral assemblage, i.e. smectite/illite, chlorite, kaolinite, quartz and feldspars. The proportions vary from one sample to another but the couple smectite/illite is always majority. The geochemical study of the solid fraction indicates that the samples are rich in Si02, low in Fe2O3, MgO, MnO and alkaline, with a few exceptions. The major element composition is organized between a pole and a pole clay alkaline carbonate. The REE patterns are similar and characteristics of clays They also have a low degree of fractionation, due to the formation of carbonates. So these are the same minerals that control the chemistry of samples. The liquid phase geochemical study shows that water involved in the MVs is mainly of marine origin, that water/rock reactions are similar, including weathering of illite in smectite, allowed us to obtain an estimate of the water equilibrium temperature between 60 and 110°C, implying an origin depth of 2-3 km.The geophysical study indicates that directly above the MVs and the two hot springs studied, the continental crust has substantially the same thickness and the depth of the subducting oceanic crust is around 20 km. At this depth, the melting of the peridotite is not possible and the resulting fusion of continental crust, responsible of arc volcanism, neither. The geothermal gradient measured at TePuia is influenced by another phenomenon, but the modeling of the lithosphere does not allow us to find which one. These studies show geochemical, petrographical and mineralogical characteristics common to mud volcanoes in New Zealand. Fluids involved in these structures therefore come from the same parent bed, covered with the same sedimentary package. The geophysical study gives us no information about it but nevertheless allows us to establish with certainty that the thermal regime is the same from Northern Hawke's Bay to the south of the ECB; TePuia region is a special case, perhaps influenced by the Matakaoa volcanic complex.

Quelle prédictibilité pour les éruptions volcaniques ? De l'échelle mondiale au Piton de la Fournaise / How predictable are the volcano eruptions? from global scale to Piton de la Fournaise volcano.

Schmid, Agathe 20 October 2011 (has links)
This PhD work focused on several aspects of the eruptions prediction. It allowed us to consider different space scales from global scale to a single volcano, Piton de la Fournaise, through statistical approaches. We then focused more specifically on the volcano-seismicity associated to its eruptive processes, using deterministic methods. First, we analyzed the statistical properties of the eruptive dynamics at the global scale. The emergence of recurrent power laws allowed us to relate the eruptive dynamics to the SOC systems, thereby attesting for the difficulty to predict eruptions by means of deterministic methods. At the global scale, the study of the Omori-law found for eruptions foreshocks and aftershocks, along with the analysis of the parameters of those Omori laws given the size of eruptions, suggests that the damage and relaxation energy in the crust around eruption time and location is power-law distributed. However, the loading and relaxation coefficients are found different than for classical tectonic seismicity, thereby attesting their dependency to the damage processes. When zooming on three observables of Piton de la Fournaise volcano (seismicity, deformation and seismic velocity changes), me showed in a third part that the respective behaviors of the three observables respond to the different steps of the eruptive process, at different time and space scales. The analysis of the pre-eruptive behaviors of those forerunners under pattern recognition techniques enhanced the optimization of the prediction results by combining simultaneously their pre-eruptive information. Lastly, we performed a specific and deterministic study of the volcano-tectonic seismicity of Piton de la Fournaise through the assessment of the source mechanisms of the volcano-tectonic seismicity. Given the complexity of volcanic context, we developed a method to retrieve the source mechanisms of small and high-frequency seismic signals. Using this method three main families of events with different locations and times of occurrence emerge. Two of them may be interpreted as the readjustment of the crust during dyke opening whereas the third family is interpreted as the signature of fluids-rock interactions at the top of the magma Storage zone.

Seismic geomechanics of mud volcanoes

Gulmammadov, Rashad January 2017 (has links)
Mud volcanoes constitute an important component of petroliferous basins and their understanding is essential for successful exploration and development of hydrocarbon fields. They occur in both extensional and compressive tectonic settings, along with passive and active continental margins. Although extensive research exists on the geochemistry, geomorphology and stratigraphic evolution of these localized fluid flow structures, little is known about their geomechanical characteristics. This research investigates the geomechanics of mud volcanoes from the South Caspian Basin and West Nile Delta. This is achieved by establishing a workflow for geomechanical assessment of mud volcanoes using a P-wave velocity dataset from across the mud volcano within the offshore South Caspian Basin. This objective is developed further with the availability of seismic and wellbore data from around the Giza mud volcano, offshore West Nile Delta. Preliminary results of this study from the South Caspian Basin enable confidence in estimating the realistic magnitudes of elastic rock properties, stresses and fluid pressures from empirical and analytical correlations. Moreover, analysis of the variations in fluid pressures allow the fluid flow models around the mud volcano to be constrained and their gradients provide preliminary estimates of the drilling window. Structural and stratigraphic analysis around the Giza mud volcano offers insight into the formation of the mud volcano during the Quaternary and how the fault networks on the hanging wall of the arcuate tectonic fault have acted as conduits for primarily the pre-Pliocene fluids exploiting the areas of weakness along the hanging wall of the fault by entraining the Pliocene sediments. Fluid pressure evaluation reveals small overpressures caused by disequilibrium compaction. Further analysis offers insight into the critical fluid pressures that control fault movement, the stresses responsible for rock deformation around the wellbore and the width of the drilling window constrained by the fracturing of the strata. Analysis presented here provides details on the geomechanical significance of mud volcano environments, with implications for engineering practices. Overall, findings contribute to a systematic understanding of mud volcano settings not only from a field exploration and development point of view, but also at a wider scale for basin analysis and relatively small scale for play analysis.
