Schaf, Frederico Menine January 2006 (has links)
This work aims to the use of remotely web-based experiments to improve the learning process of automation and control systems theory courses. An architecture combining virtual learning environments, remote experiments, students guide and experiments analysis is proposed based on a wide state of art study. The validation of the architecture uses state of art technologies and new simple developed programs to implement the case studies presented. All implementations presented in this work uses an Internet accessible virtual learning environment providing educational resources, guides and learning material to create a distance learning course associated with the remote mixed reality experiment. The experiment is integrated in the learning environment and support the mixture of real equipments combined with simulated ones (virtual). This mixture of equipments (components) is automatic controlled by the user and is a new developed technology called interchangeable components. The state of art section of this work presents, compare and describes several technologies used to implement the proposed architecture. Related work of remote experimentation and virtual learning environments is also presented. The architecture was elaborated based on appointed advantages and drawbacks of the related studies. This work is part of the RExNet consortium, supported by the European Alfa project.

Development and Validation of a Web-Based Module to Teach Metacognitive Learning Strategies to Students in Higher Education

Singh, Oma B 03 March 2009 (has links)
This study used a design based-research (DBR) methodology to examine how an Instructional Systematic Design (ISD) process such as ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) can be employed to develop a web-based module to teach metacognitive learning strategies to students in higher education. The goal of the study was twofold: (a) to examine the use of a systematic ISD process, ADDIE, to develop a web-based module that would be considered valid and effective, and (b) to use the design-based research (DBR) methodology to create relevant outcomes for practitioners in the field of IT while adding to the body of IT research. As in other DBR studies, a large amount of qualitative data was collected. DBR studies usually call for a variety of data collection instrument. In this study, a total of two interviews and twelve questionnaires were used to gather data. The outcomes of the study suggested that using a systematic approach such as ADDIE to develop a valid and effective interactive web-based module was still viable. Additionally, although the outcomes from this study did not form a basis to propose a new ISD model, it highlighted five key activities that could be added to the ADDIE process to accommodate development of a quality interactive web-based product. The five activities are as follows: (1) to conduct a detailed front-end analysis, (2) to develop a prototype early in the process, (3) to integrate formative and summative evaluations, (4) to assimilate iterations of "design-evaluate-refine" cycles throughout the process, and (5) to accommodate flexibility within the process. Furthermore, using the DBR methodology yielded results that added to the body of IT research and it provided support of the use of this methodology within the instructional technology discipline.

A scalable web-based system handling sensor data from smart homes

Nordin, Emil, Manfredh, Lucas January 2019 (has links)
A smart home is a building equipped with sensors collecting data about its environment. Data collected from smart home buildings can be used for research to improve home automation and develop smart cities. A scalable web-based system can be used to handle the large quantities of data generated from smart homes. Previous studies have been conducted on the requirements of a system collecting sensor data from smart homes, however, information about the presentation of data is still lacking. Because of this research needs to be done on what kind of system handles and presents sensor data well. The aim of this degree project is to identify the requirements of a web-based system handling and presenting sensor data. A scalable web-based system is developed based on the requirements identified from interviews and a literature study. The system shows that sensor data can be presented in a manner which facilitates research. Results show that a scalable web-based system can be used to display and download sensor data with associated information about the data.

Netzbasierte Dienste

Tamm, Gerrit 27 May 2003 (has links)
This dissertation presents a comprehensive analysis and conceptual framework of the web-based Application Service Provider (ASP) market. Based on a detailed analysis of ASP supply and demand in Europe, appropriate institutions and information substitutes for the matching process on the ASP market are identified and evaluated. The conceptual framework for the supply side is developed by evaluating the market situation, designing an ASP value chain, classifying digital goods, describing the ASP technologies and business models. These are then compared with the classic model of software utilization and the concept of virtual organizations. The results indicate present deficits in the supply-side information and communication policy. For ASP demand, theories of outsourcing of information technologies, methods and instruments of cost-and-utility-measuring and the theory of transaction phases of outsourcing are used. The basis for both supply-side and demand-side evaluations is an empirical analysis of the European ASP market. We compare the outcome of the supply and demand analyses and derive methods for their coordination by the transaction cost theory and the theories of information and institution economy. Barriers, lack of transparencies and information asymmetries are identified on both sides and thus, information substitutes for web-based services are developed. Information substitutes for experience and trust characteristics are evaluated with an online-questionnaire completed by key participants based on their perception, action and willingness to pay. From those results, we deduce strategies for reducing the information asymmetry. The result of the work is the deduction of relevant criteria for the presentation and evaluation for the supply of web-based services and the development of strategies for reducing the transaction uncertainty by identifying and integrating information substitutes.
