Summary in English / Text in Afrikaans / Awareness of and interest in the incidence of sexual child abuse has been increasing. The current prominence of this phenomenon in south Africa, . is evidenced by reports in the printed and electronic media. A study of the prehistoric era, ancient civilizations, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and later shows that children have been sexua·lly abused throughout all ages. Yet, the sexual abuse of children is incompatible with the values and goals of authentic nurturing. i • Child sexuality can never ~e equated w1.th adult I sexuality. The child lacks the emotional~ mental, intellectual and physical capabilities to manage sexual contact with an adult person. He/ she is therefore not in a position to agree to intimate intercourse. This research project mainly focused on the relationship between the identification of and aid to the sexually abused child, and the personality functioning of adults who were sexually abused as children. An ontological-antropological approach to childhood has shown that the sexually abused child has the right to the school guidance teacher's respect for his dignity as child and a need for a response to his pain and yearning. The sexually abused child is situated in a distinctive lifeworld and sexual abuse has affective, social and physical consequences. Social relations are negatively affected and some children show self-destructive behavior. The establishment of an authentic and stable sexual identity is especially threatened. Children should be educated to resist the sexual advances of adults, while sexually abused children should be provided with adequate aid. Educators (guidance teachers) should therefore have the necessary guidelines at their disposal for the prevention and treatment of sexual child abuse. / Psychology of Education / D.Ed. “A Bunch of Grapes" : a reading of Lindsey Collen’s The Rape of Sita

This feminist analysis addresses Lindsey Collen’s intertextual use of myth in The Rape of Sita and how her reformation of the parodied texts becomes a resistance to patriarchy. Collen’s examination of possible counteractions against patriarchy is analysed and it is determined whether or not she posits writing, especially demythologization, as the best resistance to patriarchal discourse. Also, her assertion that transformation and a unity of the sexes are needed to bring about equality is studied. The methodology used is qualitative and inductive. The sources are examined and interpreted through close-reading strategies which reveal the complexities of the text and the way in which Collen subverts myth. Classical and Hindu myths and other texts, such as T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, are re-read and re-examined to investigate to what extent they have challenged or championed patriarchal ideology, through which it is hoped that a greater understanding of the way in which mythology contributes to attitudes to rape is gained. Three other texts dealing with rape are also studied, in order to better place Collen’s novel in context of the genre. Primarily, feminist criticism, particularly with an African feminist viewpoint, is used. However, because a conflation of post-colonial and postmodern approaches is embedded within feminism, these concepts are dealt with also. This essay focuses on the ways in which respect for nature is expressed through animal imagery in Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God, Mark Twain's "The Stolen White Elephant," Roughing It, and Pudd'nhead Wilson, and Jack London's The Call of the Wild. Each author encouraged readers to seek the benefits of nature in order to become better human beings, forge stronger communities, and develop a more unified nation and world. By learning from the positive example of the animals, we learn how to share our world with them and with each other.

The Role of Consumer Gender Identity and Brand Concept Consistency in Evaluating Cross-Gender Brand Extensions

Cross-gender brand extensions are a developing and valuable strategy that has quickly grown to become a vital component of strategic communications management. The goal of this study is to gain a greater insight on what makes for a successful cross-gender brand extension. In order to expand upon the Basic Model of Brand Extension Evaluation (Doust & Esfahlan, 2012), this study examines how marketing factors, more specifically product positioning, combined with consumer gender roles and brand concept, affect how consumers evaluate cross-gender brand extensions. In the past gender and brand concept have been studied within cross-gender brand extension research. Yet, the present study focuses on gender roles, conceptualizing gender as levels of masculinity and femininity. The products featured were positioned as having either a symbolic or functional brand concept. The results from this study not only confirm that gender and gender roles are indeed two distinct concepts, but they also indicate that gender roles and brand concept have a significant effect on brand extension evaluations, especially when level of masculinity is a factor.

I skolan medvetandegörs hot och våld : Intervjustudie med personal från gymnasieskolor / In school, threats and violence are made aware : Interview study with high school staff

Syftet med denna uppsats var att redogöra för det förebyggande arbetet kring hot och våld men också hantering av hot och våld i gymnasieskolan. Därmed användes en kvalitativ intervjustudie med rektorer, lärare samt en kurator som gav svar på följande frågeställningar; hur förebyggdes hot och våld i gymnasieskolan, hur identifierades hot och våld i gymnasieskolan samt hur bemöttes hot och våld i gymnasieskolan. Personalens svar på dessa frågeställningar analyserades utifrån Paulo Freires befrielseteori och därmed gavs en tydligare bild av skolans situation gällande hot och våld. Medvetandegöra-(conscientização) innebar att handlingsplanerna kritiskt reflekterades över som uppdaterades årsvis samt granskning av elevenkäter och medarbetarenkäter. I arbetslaget samtalades och delades erfarenheter som var en del i att hot och våld medvetandegjordes. Förutom i arbetslaget delades olika erfarenheter genom föreläsningar, litteratur och poddar, vilket ökade kunskapen om hot och våld. Eleverna diskuterade värdegrunden, normer och de förtryckta samt förtryckarnas världsbild. Därtill fick elever kännedom om den hjälp som fanns såsom kurator, socialtjänst och utväg om de hamnade i en våldsam eller hotfull situation. Det förebyggande arbetet kring hot och våld sammanfattades i följande strategier: skapandet av en trygg arbetsmiljö samt ökning av elevers och lärares kunskap. Dessutom behövdes både teoretiska och praktiska kunskaper om hur elever och lärare skulle agera vid hotfulla och våldsamma situationer. Olika handlingsplaner tillämpades vid olika hotfulla och våldsamma situationer. Vid övning av inrymning förbereddes lärare och elever hur de skulle agera vid våldsamma och hotfulla situationer. Dessutom behövdes kännedom om vilka aktörer som fanns inom skolan såsom elevhälsoteam, som oftast bestod av kurator, psykolog och skolläkare. Därutöver bestod en krisgrupp av andra professioner såsom pastor, diakon, mentor, präst eller imam. I samhället fanns det vid större katastrofer och olyckor stöd och råd från socialtjänsten och POSOM-gruppen att tillgå. Begrepp: Hot och våld medvetandegjordes, i skola, i nära relationer, i hemmet, barn for illa, elevhälsoteam, Krisgrupp, Socialtjänsten, Polisen, POSOM-gruppen / The purpose of this essay was to account for the preventive work on threats and violence but also the management of threats and violence in high school. Thus, a qualitative interview study was used with principals, teachers and a counselor´s who provided answers to the following questions; how threats and violence were prevented in high school, how threats and violence   were indentified in high school and how threats and violence in high school were adressed. The staff´s answers to these questions were analyzed on the basis of Paulo Freire´s liberation theory and thus gave a clearer picture of school´s sitaution regarding threats and violence. Awareness-raising (conscientização) meant that the action plans were critically reflected on, which were updated annually, as well as a review of student surveys and employee surveys. The work team discussed and shared experinces that were part of raising awareness of threats and violence. In addition to the work team, different experiences were shared through lectures, litterature and podcasts, which increased knowledge about threats and violence. The students discussed the values, norms and the world of oppressed and the opressors. In addition, students become aware of the help that was available, such as a counselor, social services and a resort if they ended up in a violent or threatening situation.  The preventive work on threats and violence was summarized in the following strategies: the creation of safe working environment and an increase students and teachers knowledge. In addition, both theoretical and practical knowledge was needed about how students and teachers should act in threatening and violent situations. Different action plans were applied in different threatning and violent situations. When practicing accomodation, teachers and students were prepared to act in violent and threatening situations. In addition, knowledge was needed about which actors were present within the school, such as student health teams, which usually consisted of a counselors, psychologists and school doctor. In addition, a crisis group consisted of other professions such as pastor, deacon, mentor, priest or imam. In the event of major disasters and accidents, support and advice from the social services and the POSOM group were availible. Ambivalent Ecologies: Representations of the Nonhuman in African American Literature, 1830-1940, argues that nonhuman animals and ecological phenomena are central to the projects undertaken by African American authors from the antebellum slave narrative through the interwar period. In four chapters that focus on the Anglophone literature of nineteenth century abolition, the late nineteenth-century conjure tales of Charles W. Chesnutt, Jean Toomer’s Cane, and Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God, I contend that there are as many differences in how these authors marshal the nonhuman as there are similarities. Following this insight, I tease out the unevenness and tensions in these representations across the tradition. Tracing the influence of literary genre and historical developments on representations of the nonhuman, I contend that these mark a site or perhaps a vector of profound ambivalence. Pushing beyond paradigms that reflexively position the work of black creative intellectuals as always already critical of Western liberal humanism, I offer a more nuanced set of close-readings that stay with the trouble of what I theorize as the ecological ambivalence that animates African American literature’s relationship toward the colonial categories the Human, or Man. Drawing on the work of Sylvia Wynter, Zakiyyah Jackson, Frantz Fanon, and others, I position this ambivalence as a key feature of the ecology of African American life.
