Energiutvärdering av Undervisningshuset på Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan i Stockholm : Uppföljning av energianvändning medelst normalårskorrigering / Energy evaluation of Undervisningshuset at The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm : Follow-up of energy use by means of standard year correction

Pehrs, Malin, Hjort, Lina January 2020 (has links)
Både resultaten för denna rapport och Energideklarationen klassificerar därmed Undervisningshuset med Energiklass B. / The housing- and service sector makes up about 40 % of the total yearly energy use in Sweden. For new buildings with ambitious requirements, such as the object of this study, an important part of the work towards sustainability is follow-up and feedback on its energy use to illustrate the connection between ambition and actual result. Energy follow-up for Undervisningshuset, a building on KTH Campus with ambitious visions of sustainability and pedagogy, is therefore the aim of this study. To compare the energy use in buildings between different years the energy use must be normalized which is done in two steps; correction for normal occupancy and standard year correction. In this report the normalized energy use of Undervisningshuset is calculated by means of energy signature and degree-days, which is compared to the expected energy use according to the Energy Declaration normalized by SMHI’s energy-index. The energy performance of Undervisningshuset is 56 kWh/m2 and year according to the energy signature method and 59 kWh/m2 according to the degree-day method, compared to the expected energy performance in the Energy Declaration of 60 kWh/m2 and year. Both the results of this report and the Energy Declaration thereby classifies Undervisninshuset with Energy Class B.

Food webs and phenology models: evaluating the efficacy of ecologically based insect pest management in different agroecosystems

Philips, Christopher Robin 02 September 2013 (has links)
Integrated pest management (IPM) is defined as an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. Integrated pest management programs use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interactions with host plants and the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest populations by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. True IPM takes advantage of all appropriate pest management options including, as appropriate, the judicious use of pesticides. It is currently estimated the IPM in its full capacity is being practiced on less than ten percent of the agricultural land in the U.S. The primary objective of this research was to evaluate land management decisions and create new tools to promote a true IPM approach and encourage growers to reevaluate their method of insect control. To accomplish this I developed new predictive tools to reduce or eliminate unnecessary insecticide application intended to target cereal leaf beetle in wheat, and assessed a conservation biological control technique, farmscaping, to determine its true impact on lepidopteran pest suppression in collards. / Ph. Experience, Interpretation, and the Performance of Authorship: A Study of Multiple Perspective in the Work of George Orwell

Rose, Robert 16 December 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines stylistic technique and narrative strategy in a range of George Orwell’s fictional and non-fictional texts to demonstrate how personal experience and detached interpretation interact dialectically in his work to create layers of narrative complexity. Moving from Raymond Williams’ observation that the figure of “Orwell” is the writer’s “most successful” creation, this study asserts a vital correlation between form and content in Orwell’s work, specifically in the central position that perspective occupies in his political outlook. The multiple perspectives that surface in Orwell’s texts – the reluctant Imperial policeman, the tramp in disguise, the advocate of the working poor, the rebellious and satirically-inclined anti-totalitarian writer – correspond with the author’s life experiences, and yet are revealed as rhetorically constructed positions that are adopted strategically to generate nuanced, and at times contradictory, impressions of a wide range of subject matter. Chapter 1 treats Orwell’s Burmese writings as ethnographically-inflected texts; Chapter 2 examines the figure of the mask in Down and Out in Paris and London and in The Road to Wigan Pier; Chapter 3 analyses a dialectic of experience and interpretation at play in Homage to Catalonia; Chapter 4 scrutinizes the mobilization of the rebel writer figure in a selection of Orwell’s mature essays; and Chapter 5 examines the strategic deployment of competing perspectives in Nineteen Eighty-Four’s anatomy of the totalitarian state. This array of analytical approaches serves the dual function of highlighting the versatility and sophistication of narrative strategy across a range of individual texts in Orwell’s oeuvre, and of demonstrating a trajectory in his work that adheres simultaneously to both formal and political considerations. Orwell’s highly prolific two-decade-long writing career, I argue, can be productively understood as an ongoing experiment with narrative strategy, and this experiment exerts at each stage a direct influence on his evolving political aesthetic.

Le dieu Haroéris / The god Haroeris

Tillier, Anaïs 18 December 2012 (has links)
The study devoted to Haroeris was carried out from a corpus of more than 500 sources which quote the god. Its aim is to highlight the various characteristics of his personality and his duties in the myths and rituals which make up the theology of temples. The result is not complete because of the loss of a significant portion of monuments dedicated to the god. Only one of his three major temples remains today. The preserved documents cover a period from the Middle Kingdom to the Roman period (ca. 1900 BC-300 AD). It gives the opportunity to analyze the origins and the evolution of Haroeris’ theology. The god was probably created at the beginning of the Middle Kingdom. At that time, he is worshiped in a city of the Delta near Heliopolis according to his name 1r-wr-Ra which identity him with the creator god Ra. This feature of Haroeris is abandoned at the beginning of the New Kingdom when appears the new form of the god named “Haroeris-Mekhenty(en)irty” and attested until the Roman period. The assimilation of Haroeris to the old Letopolitan god Mekhenty(en)irty is probably due to his arrival at Letopolis which is considered to be the main place of his worship in late sources. Haroeris also has a sanctuary in Kom Ombo and Qus. In Kom Ombo, he shares his temple with the crocodile-god Sobek. However, he plays the main role in the local myths (primordial fighting against the enemies of Ra; return of the Faraway Goddess). The temple of Qus is dedicated to the birth of the god delivered by Heqet-Nut. Haroeris also plays the role of protector of the osirian family. KEYWORDS

Týdeník Šumavan v letech 1918-1941 na Klatovsku a osobnost Maxmiliána a Otakara Čermáka / Weekly newpaper Šumavan during years 1918-941 in Klatovy region and figures of Maxmilián and Otakar Čermák

Hamhalterová, Dana January 2012 (has links)
The object of this dissertation is to describe development of the press in urban district Klatovy during 1918 - 1941 for example the weekly newspaper Šumavan. By political and social background we are going to explain development of this weekly newspaper from his beginning to his cessation and to describe character of the newspaper. We are also going to give attention to figure of a founder, an owner and an editor Maxmilián Čermák and his son Otakar Čermák. Patriotic thinking at the beginning of 60's in 19th century in Klatovy gave the incentive to foundation of the first Czech printing office in Klatovy in autumn 1867. The Czech printing office was the essential step for foundation of Czech-written periodical which would spread thoughts and interest in well-being of the whole Bohemia Forest area. To foundation and continuance of the first Czech newspapers in south-western Bohemia (except Pilsen) contributed patriotic thinking grammar school profesors and rich citizens from Klatovy who were concentrated around guild Měšťanská beseda. The weekly newspaper Šumavan was publicated during 1868 - 1941 if we don't count the last issue which was publicated on 19th May 1945 to liberation of Czechoslovakia. There were two approximately four years' intervals by reason of war censorship in the long life of the...

Activity patterns of residents of Paraisópolis: analysis of multiple days of data collected with smartphones.

Pizzol, Bruna 29 June 2018 (has links)
This dissertation explores two main lines of research: to investigate the activity patterns of 105 residents of the Paraisópolis, second largest slum of São Paulo, using data collected over multiple days using smartphones. Data was collected with a home interview and tracking GPS location every 5 minutes for one week. Based on location data, individual stays and points of interest we inferred. Based on their characteristics, stays were clustered into 6 classes, later used to describe individuals\' weekly activity patterns. Individuals were then clustered into 7 categories, based on similarity of their activity patterns. Each group of individuals was then investigated regarding its socioeconomic and demographic composition, to verify if similarity of behavior was associated with homogeneity concerning gender, age, income, occupation, level of education, among other attributes. Results suggest that among the seven clusters of individuals, two of them conduct most of their activities at home; individuals of other two groups seem to have a main frequent regular activity outside their home but within the area of Paraisópolis, one with greater diversity of activities than the other; finally, individuals of the three remaining groups participate in a frequent regular activity outside Paraisópolis, differing among themselves concerning variability and number of other activities conducted during one week. It should be highlighted that 56% of the people in the sample was classified in groups with diversified behavior, indicating the need to consider other activity patterns beyond the more usual simple commute considered in modelling efforts.
