Previous issue date: 2014-12-10 / The present study regards São Paulo s city commerce of furniture and decoration objects. We aim to understand and systematize sense production on the context of this segment s consumption from the way intersubjective relations are settled between subjects and thematic spaces. In that way we question how do subjects allow themselves to be seen by the occupation of these thematic spaces and give meaning to sense for Paulistano s decoration commerce? As corpora were taken two thematic streets of the city, RuaTeodoro Sampaio and Alameda Gabriel Monteiro da Silva, on specific sites where concentration of decoration segment stores is bigger. As hypothesis we assume that stores organize themselves in a strategic way, according to the values practiced on the spaces where these stores are placed. These streets are presumed as strong Addressers that will interfere on subjects presence way. As a complement to our investigation we analyze Dunélli House Company, that makes itself seen by three stores on the selected sites. On these thematic spaces occur different sociability ways presentified in their enunciates that make the consumption sense to be, promoting identities and social interaction regimes. The theoretical and referential basis adopted is Discursive Semiotics, from A. J. Greimas legacy, with his proposition concerning sense generative path and narrative grammar. The development of this theory on E. Landowski s Sociossemiotics founds visibility regimes and sense regimes analysis from the kinds of interaction that happen on these spaces, as well as J.M. Floch and A. C. de Oliveira s approach on Plastic Semiotics. The conclusion points that these thematic routes are strong Addressers, able to delineate the kinds of subjects that come to be seen on selected sites and give meaning to sense regarding Paulistano s decoration commerce / A presente pesquisa estuda o comércio de móveis e objetos de decoração da cidade de São Paulo.

[en] THE GAROTAS DO ALCEU: FASHION JOURNALISM AND FEMALE CONSUMPTION IN BRAZIL (1938-1964) / [pt] AS GAROTAS DO ALCEU: JORNALISMO DE MODA E CONSUMO FEMININO NO BRASIL (1938-1964)CARINA BORGES RUFINO 22 November 2017 (has links)
[en] The present study seeks to understand the way in which the representation of women s fashion and consumption is presented in Brazil, having as object of analysis the Garotas do Alceu column, created by the illustrator Alceu Penna, published between 1938 and 1964 in the O Cruzeiro magazine and considered as an essential reference of fashion and behavior for women of that period. For this, a qualitative research was conducted through content textual analysis, based on theoretical references that approach discourses about fashion, consumption, journalism and female sociability from a cultural perspective. The research also has historical references related to women s fashion and consumption practices in Brazil, as well as the women s press and fashion journalism practiced in the country. Because Rio de Janeiro is the city responsible for dictating fashion and behavior patterns in Brazil during the period studied, including the city chosen as the setting for the Garotas do Alceu column, we took the capital of Rio de Janeiro as a reference for this research.

[en] CONSUMPTION HISTORIES AND SOCIAL ILLUSIONS: DEPARTMENT STORES, SHOPPING CENTERS, AND MIDDLE CLASSES / [pt] HISTÓRIAS DE CONSUMO E ILUSÕES SOCIAIS: GRANDES MAGAZINES, SHOPPING CENTERS E CLASSES MÉDIASWILLIAM DE ALMEIDA CORBO 25 May 2018 (has links)
Vamos
e temas relacionados à economia e à produção, as experiências e sensibilidades
entendimento do capitalismo. / [en] This thesis examines the relation between consumption dynamics and the
formation of middle classes, through the study of two important historical
experiences of capitalism: the unveiling of the great magazines in the European
urban centers between the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the
20th century; the rise of the malls at the north-american suburbs in mid-20th century.
In a more specific manner, the thesis aims to analyze the ways through which these
expanding consumption movements pushed the recruitment of social groups and
their getting closer to the world of goods and, in this process, generated images,
ideas and representations of consumer middle classes. The thesis will consider the
particularities of those experiences, explore the characteristics of their contexts and
observe the maintenance of their projects. The thesis starts from the premise that
consumption is a central element in the modern-contemporary culture and,
therefore, the study of its logics, structures and meanings can contribute to
understanding the values and ideologies that orient our social lives. In an exercise
of historical anthropology, this thesis aims to highlight that, beyond the questions
and themes related to economy and production, the experiences and sensibilities
connected to the culture, to the symbolic and to the universe of consumption may
also provide ideas, present discoveries and decipher fundamental structures to the
understanding of capitalism.

Publicité et modernisation au Chili et en Colombie entre 1870 et 1914 : une approche des processus d'établissement de la publicité comme représentation d'une nouvelle pratique de consommation / Advertising and modernization in Chile and Colombia between 1870 and 1914 : an approach to the process of establishing advertising as representation of a new consumption practiceToro Tamayo, Luis Carlos 22 May 2012 (has links)
The modernization of the late nineteenth century in Latin America was presented as an economic project that both would modify the existing social and cultural paradigms and contribute to overcoming the colonial remnants that were still anchored in society. An analysis of the advertisements that were published in print media in Chile and Colombia between 1870 and 1914 has allowed us to appreciate a discursive order of consumption practices related to the modernization being established and how this new exchange goods and services model altered the habits and customs of the society. To advance in the understanding the link between advertising and modernization, we turn to the guidelines set forth by the new cultural history, the Frankfurt School, specifically the approach developed by Jürgen Habermas on the public sphere and the contributions developed by the contemporary British and Latin American cultural studies. Methodologically, we proceeded with the search and selection of a representative corpus of advertising campaigns. Subsequently, such campaigns were classified and systematized according to the method of analysis of press coverage of information. Finally, we examine the processes of production, circulation and consumption, as well as the meaning effects, uses and meanings of this kind of discourse in the Latin American society.

Music CD in development and consumer value in the Thai music industryBhovichitra, Phunpiti January 2017 (has links)
While the digital market, especially the music streaming market, has rapidly grown in recent years, however the physical music segment still remains relevant in the Thai market. The Thai music market has inimitable characteristics within the market in terms of the physical music record offers, recorded musical works, and a growth trend in physical sales. Moreover, the behaviour in physical music consumption is opposite to that in world markets. Music consumption practices in the Thai market and why physical music, and CDs in particular, remain relevant to the Thai music industry are an enigma. The music industry itself has suggested that the physical music market needs to be revamped and its physical products redeveloped. In addition, the major record companies have also refocused into developing physical markets. However, precisely how this is to be achieved has not been specified. The twin aims of this study are to more fully comprehend Thai music consumption practices in today’s market and to examine how the concepts of product development could be effective in responding to consumer needs and desires. Consumer-led product development is the main concept of this study used to create ideas to enhance music CDs. This study combined many perspectives related to consumer-led product development and then applied them to construct the conceptual framework named “The Seminal Framework for CD Development”. The framework is a roadmap to create a new set of features for a new form of music CD based on the input of the music industry’s representatives and consumers. A new form of music CD which includes a new set of features is named in this study as the “prototype CD”. Also, the framework is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the prototype CD; how the prototype CD is responsive to consumer needs as far as functional and psychological perspectives are concerned. Bearing in mind the aim of this research, the researcher considered the interpretive paradigm to be the most appropriate approach for capturing consumers’ experiences in music consumption practices and for studying the opinions, points of view and ideas derived from the consumers, and the experts in music CD development. In the data collection process, this study employed the technique of purposive sampling for selecting from the population. The purposive sampling technique allows the researcher to judge and select people or prospective participants who: 1) are available to participate I in conducting the research, 2) are knowledgeable about the industry, 3) have experience related to the context of the study, and 4) can provide the reliable and detailed information required to understand the focal themes of the study. This study conducted nine interviews with the music industry’s experts, 60 one-on-one interviews and four group interviews with consumers. For the data analysis, this study adopted the manual coding analysis. The Seminal Framework determined the coding structure, and sets of data could be organised into distinct themes, such as the new features of music CDs or future positive possibilities for music consumption. This enabled, at the end of the process, an easier and more efficient identification of the experiential values derived from prototype music CDs. In addition, in more fully understanding the needs and expectations inherent in music consumption practices, such careful coding analysis helps to re-define the typology of music consumers. The typology and the concepts also facilitated the identification of music consumption behaviour in today’s environment. This study contributes a wider concept in consumer-led product development that has been applied to the context of music consumption practices and music product (CD) development.
