A study of the origins, development and contemporary manifestations of Christian retreatsJenkins, Hugh Peter 31 October 2006 (has links)
The dissertation is a study of the origins, development and contemporary manifestations of Christian retreats. It traces origins from the Biblical record until current retreats. Christian retreat is a period of withdrawal from usual activities to experience encounter with God through Christian prayer. Jesus' pattern of engagement in ministry and withdrawal is a vital basis for retreat. Other Biblical descriptions of retreat are studied. There is an examination of retreat experiences in Church history with a particular focus on monasticism, as a major expression of retreat life, and Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the modern retreat movement. Varieties of subsequent retreat types in the spiritualities of different traditions from the Protestant Reformation onwards are considered. The spectrum of study includes Protestant, Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Pentecostal spiritualities. The study culminates in focusing on current Ignatian and other retreats in their many forms. This includes private devotions to lengthy periods of retreat. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M.Th. (Christian Spirituality)

Consumer perception of machine-generated advertisement / Konsumenters uppfattning av maskin-genererade reklamkampanjerCsoré Suhonen, Christoffer, Hjelm, Tommy January 2021 (has links)
Research in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) in marketing mainly consists of increasing value for retailers or ethical issues related to consumers, in contrast, academic research regarding consumers perception of AI in marketing is vague at best. This research explores the perception of machine-generated advertising campaigns and how these campaigns are experienced by consumers. This research aims to explore the uncharted phenomenon of consumer perception related to receiving and evaluating advertisements through short message services and emails. An exploratory research question was used and formulated as: What are the perceptions of machine-generated advertisements among consumers. In order to answer the research question, two sub-questions were used as follows; what themes constitute the consumers’ perception of machine-generated advertisements and what is the consumers’ discernment ability of machine-generated advertisements. Using a mixed-method approach, this research gathered data conducting interviews that resulted in themes describing consumers' perception and an online questionnaire that was used in a univariate analysis, showing the consumer's discernment ability. Additionally, z-tests were conducted to increase the coverage of the discernment ability between different sample groups. The study concludes a descriptive theory for consumer perception of intelligent marketing campaigns and shows that consumers have a low distinguishing ability between machine and human made advertisements. This research concludes that further research is needed as the result of this study merely scratches the surface of a complex phenomenon. The results can however, be used as a springboard for further research on the topic as more comprehensive understanding is still achievable.

Digital communication in and beyond organizations: Essays on unintended consequencesEntschew, Elisa Maria 16 September 2019 (has links)
Digital communication refers to human-to-human, human-to-machine or machine-to-machine communication. This dissertation focuses on human-to-human communication in professional relationships based on hardware innovations like tablets, smartphones, or wearables as well as internet-based services like email, instant messaging or social media. Intended consequences of using social communication technologies are often increased freedom of action or faster communication. However, digital communication does also lead to unintended consequences like new social controls, less freedom of action or a lack of time. The aim of the dissertation is to explore explanation attempts why these consequences occur as well as to elucidate how organizations could deal with it. The key message of the dissertation is that using digital communication technologies requires well-trained moral discernment to better understand unintended consequences as well as to better cope with them.:1. Introduction
2. Digital communication: a new challenge for moral discernment
3. Digital communication in and beyond organizations: unintended consequences of new freedom
4. Digital communication in organizations: acceleration and lack of time

Discerning a spirituality for transformative mission: in dialogue with the Comboni Missionary SistersLepori, Laura 01 1900 (has links)
This research seeks to acquire a deep understanding of how spirituality and
mission correlate and shape each other. An initial review of missiological texts has
revealed that spirituality is not often (nor explicitly) taken into consideration by
missiologists. Likewise, mission generally does not occupy a central place within the
academic discipline of spirituality. I contend that spirituality is the motor of mission and
missiology and therefore cannot be only briefly mentioned or omitted from
missiological discourse.
This thesis explores this relationship with a specific focus on the Comboni
Missionary Sisters. It explores the mission spirituality of their founder, Daniel
Comboni, how this is taken up by the Comboni Missionary Sisters and how it shapes
their lives and their being in mission. The research also aims to foster some
transformations. It explores new ways for the Sisters to express their ways of being in
mission in the context(s) in which they live, in order to be faithful to Comboni’s
charism as well as to be a relevant presence today.
The thesis proposes that mission spirituality be studied and lived by making use a
Mission spirituality spiral. Its six dimensions are: spirituality, at the centre and all along
the spiral; encounter with other(s) and with the context; context analysis; theological
reflection (encounter with Scripture and Tradition); discernment for transformative
ways of being in mission and reflexivity.
A qualitative analysis is presented from interviews conducted with fifteen
Comboni Missionary Sisters working in various continents. Genuine encounter with the
Triune God, with the other(s), with the context and its analysis, and encounter with
Scripture and Tradition lead to transformation in the person and subsequently to finding
new ways of being in mission.
The mission spirituality spiral is used as an analytical tool to study the mission
spirituality of Comboni and the Comboni Missionary Sisters and also as a mobilising
tool. Suggestions for further areas of research are made. The thesis concludes with some
personal learning and transformation. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. Th. (Missiology)

[en] IGNATIAN DISCERNMENT: HUMAN FREEDOM RESPONDING TO GOD / [pt] DISCERNIMENTO INACIANO: A LIBERDADE HUMANA RESPONDENDO A DEUSRAISA SUENA SOARES LOPES 19 February 2016 (has links)
[en] Discernment is an intrinsic dimension of the Christian life. In contact with biblical texts, we can attest it from the prophets through Jesus, Paul and John. Discernment inserts us into a life of dynamic faith, constantly challenged by the action of the Holy Spirit. These challenges should lead us to concrete actions in which the human being invests his freedom into the salvific plan of God. In this thesis, we propose a comprehension of this reality from the perspective of Ignatius of Loyola, which represents the way how he sought to capture and interpret the will of God, and how this provides better quality in the following of Jesus Christ. The mark of Ignatius spirituality is discernment, which is based on his strong experience of God. Ignatius emphasizes that God is heard and understood from the human conditioning of each epoch, from the most everyday experiences; God can be sought and found in all things. Ignatius rescues the personal dimension of Christian life while providing an anthropological unit since he speaks about being aware of the inner movements (motions) of consolation and desolation, making of these the criterion of discernment. Further, ignatian discernment restores freedom and responsibility in the Christian life, since he admits that the search and the meeting of the will of God is up to each person. This feature of the discernment ends in an opening confident to the Holy Spirit and in a more meaningful life.

Previous issue date: 2018-09-28 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This work introduces Pope Francis ministry in a different light, an approach which has not been usually adopted, so far: Ignatian spirituality. From the start, it narrates Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s spiritual and intellectual backgrounds, which were firstly incorporated from his own family and further developed when he joined in the Society of Jesus. His trajectory as a clergyman highlights his struggles with his fellow brothers in his religious congregation, where he experienced both setbacks and advancements, especially, when we consider the Latin America historical context at the time, during which Argentina, where he was born and raised, was under a military dictatorship. Nevertheless, in spite of all the political tensions, his decisions always go in the direction of pastoral work and spiritual discernment. Following that, this work highlights the Second Vatican Council major influence over the Church new policies in our contemporary cultural scenario, a context full of challenges which were long felt in the successive Church crisis. This was an important aspect for Pope Benedict XVI resignation, which is also assessed in this work, a resignation that was followed by the conclave ending up in the election of the first Jesuit Pope. The circumstances for his choice and the facts triggered by the new Bishop of Rome, beginning with his decision to be called “Francis” and advancing to the traits of his Petrine ministry, are taken into account, especially in the light of Ignatian spirituality, when references to time, places and people are underlined. Nevertheless, it is a work that introduces Pope Francis inner language in the context of his outspoken life / Este trabalho apresenta o ministério do Papa Francisco sob um enfoque com poucos precedentes, até então: a espiritualidade inaciana.
