Cercas e pontes: o movimento GLBT e o mercado GLS na cidade de São Paulo / The fences and bridges: the GLBT movement and the GLS market in São Paulo city

França, Isadora Lins 31 March 2006 (has links)
This thesis is a study of the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender) movement and its relations with a segmented market that is focused on homosexuals or GLS (Gay, Lesbian and Supporter). This work departing from the conducted field research on the Associação da Parada do Orgulho GLBT de São Paulo (APOGLBT - São Paulo\'s Association for the GLBT Pride Parade) seeks to understand these relations. Besides this, an effort has been made to understand the dynamics of the GLS market and the GLBT movement, specially in São Paulo, since the mid 1990s. The focus of this thesis is grounded on an analysis of processes of rapprochement and differentiation between the movement and the market, involving situations of conflict and collaboration between both social actors. This approach has been elaborated from a theoretical discussion about processes of collective identity formation, present in the constitution of political subjects, as well as from an anthropological perspective on consumption processes.

Housing market segmentation -case study

Huang, Li-We Unknown Date (has links)

Consumer Behavior of Credit Card Holders

Yen, Yuh-Mei Unknown Date (has links)

Where to Invest? : Choosing the optimal stock market for investing in a cross-listed Nordic firm

Fagerlund, Elias, Mashrukh, Talukder January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the location of buying stocks in a Nordic cross-listed company matters in terms of 1) earning abnormal returns, or 2) gaining in optimizing the amount spent by buying the specific stock cheap. Nowadays, markets are becoming more integrated and if we believe in the efficient market hypothesis, prices of the same class of stocks paying the same dividend annually, of an MNC must be the same irrespective of the stock exchange it is listed upon. Though efficient market hypothesis exists in theory, market imperfection is a reality. All the Nordic (Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish and Icelandic) firms listed on foreign stock exchanges in addition to their home market have been included in the sample. In fact, this sample represents 100% of the population. The daily prices of cross-listed stocks have been analyzed and conclusions have been drawn based on the mean returns and mean prices along with Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test statistics. The data have been analyzed over the last ten years capturing the recent economic cycle. The whole period has also been divided into three sub-periods to establish comparisons with the whole period. This paper reports that even though returns on cross-listed stocks are statistically same over all periods, prices of the stocks vary according to the location of listing. That is, investors can buy from a stock exchange where the specific stock is underpriced thereby decreasing the amount invested in absolute term and optimizing the amount spent if not the return. The returns and prices have analyzed using the local currency of the MNC’s country of origin and Special Drawing Rights (SDRs). No considerable differences on the returns or pattern of price movements have been observed while using two currencies.

STEM Employment in the New Economy: A Labor Market Segmentation Approach

Torres-Olave, Blanca Minerva January 2013 (has links)
The present study examined the extent to which the U.S. STEM labor market is stratified in terms of quality of employment. Through a series of cluster analyses and Chi-square tests on data drawn from the 2008 Survey of Income Program Participation (SIPP), the study found evidence of segmentation in the highly-skilled STEM and non-STEM samples, which included workers with a subbaccalaureate diploma or above. The cluster analyses show a pattern consistent with Labor Market Segmentation theory: Higher wages are associated with other primary employment characteristics, including health insurance and pension benefits, as well as full-time employment. In turn, lower wages showed a tendency to cluster with secondary employment characteristics, such as part-time employment, multiple employment, and restricted access to health insurance and pension benefits. The findings also suggest that women have a higher likelihood of being employed in STEM jobs with secondary characteristics. The findings reveal a far more variegated employment landscape than is usually presented in national reports of the STEM workforce. There is evidence that, while STEM employment may be more resilient than non-STEM employment to labor restructuring trends in the new economy, the former is far from immune to secondary labor characteristics. There is a need for ongoing dialogue between STEM education (at all levels), employers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to truly understand not only the barriers to equity in employment relations, but also the mechanisms that create and maintain segmentation and how they may impact women, underrepresented minorities, and the foreign-born.

A generic simulation environment for heterogeneous agents. With applications in marketing and technological choice.

Meyer, David 09 1900 (has links) (PDF)
This monograph contributes to the methodology of Agent-based Computational Economics. First, we introduce a generic simulation framework suitable for agent-based simulations featuring the support of heterogeneous agents, hierarchical scheduling, and flexible specification of design parameters. For the latter, we use an XML-based format enabling the design of flexible models, with the possibility of varying both agent population and parameterization. Further, the tool allows the definition of communication channels to single agents, or groups thereof, and handles the information exchange. Both agents and communication channels can be added and removed at runtime. To handle the heterogeneity arising from both the agents' implementations and the underlying platforms, we introduce an XML-based wrapper technique for mapping the functionality of agents living in an interpreter-based environment to a standardized JAVA interface. Second, we present a collection of artificial economic actors to be used with this framework. Their interplay is demonstrated in two fields of management science: marketing and technological choice. In the field of marketing, the question of choosing the optimal segmentation techniques for market segmentation is investigated, comparing the performance of firm agents with diverse segmentation strategies in a highly customizable artificial consumer market. In the second application, we study the influence of technological efficiency and organizational inertia on the emergence of competition when firms decide myopically. We observe the competitive reaction of a former monopolist to the advent of a new competitor to assess when new, "disruptive" technologies cause the failure of incumbent firms and investigate simple defensive strategies.
