Aplicação do acoplamento entre o MEC e o MEF para o estudo da interação dinâmica elastoplástica entre o solo e estruturas / BEM/FEM coupling application to the study of the elastoplastic dynamic interaction between soil and structures

Almeida, Francisco Patrick Araujo 24 October 2003 (has links)
Vários exemplos numéricos são apresentados, onde se percebe a eficiência do código computacional desenvolvido / The objective of the present work is the development of a computational code that makes possible dynamic analyses of three-dimensional structures in elastic-linear behavior coupled to the soil, modeled as elastoplastic infinite medium. Simple finite elements, shell and general bars, are used to model elastic structures. The structures of foundations are modeled by shell’s elements which simulate the contact with the soil, modeling radiers, tunnels and buried reservoirs. Blocks are modeled by three-dimensional boundary elements. The soil is modeled in two different ways: in the plastic region Kelvin’s fundamental solution (static) is used and in the elastic region the fundamental solution of the Stoke’s problem is adopted. The coupling among the media is done applying the sub-region technique. It is important to note that the equivalent static procedure has been implemented. Several numerical examples are presented, demonstrating the efficiency of the developed computational code

Ferro, Newton Carlos Pereira 14 January 1999 (has links)
In the present work a combination of the Boundary Element Method (BEM) and the Finite Element Method (FEM) is used for pile-soil interaction analyses, considering the soil as a homogeneous, three-dimensional and infinite medium. The three-dimensional infinite continuous medium is modeled by the BEM, and the piles are, considered as beam elements, modeled by the FEM. This combination also is used for studying the interaction of plates sitting on a continuous medium. The pile equations generated from the FEM are combined with the medium equations generated from the BEM, resulting a complete equation system. Manipulating properly this equation system, a set of stiffness coefficients for the system soil-pile is obtained. Finally, to make the model more comprehensive, it presented a formulation to take into account the soil nonlinear behavior at the pile interface.

Análise da interação casca plana-estaca-solo via acoplamento MEC/MEF tridimensional e suas aplicações / Analysis of flat shell-pile-soil interaction via a tridimensional BEM/FEM coupling and its applications

Luamba, Endi Samba 26 March 2018 (has links)
Soil-structure interaction problems are analyzed by a tridimensional formulation obtained combining the Boundary Element Method (BEM) and the Finite Element Method (FEM). Structural elements that interact with the soil are modeled by the Finite Element Method. And the soil, considered as a semi-infinite, homogeneous, linear elastic and isotropic medium, is modeled by the Boundary Element Method, using Mindlin\'s fundamental solution. Mindlin\'s fundamental solution is particularly suitable for the type of problems under analysis, viz. problems involving semi-infinite three-dimensional solids, since it is necessary to discretize only the loaded surface of the soil and/or the line-load, and not all the three-dimensional solid. The discretization of the pile in several three-dimensional beam finite elements, allowing the consideration of piles of any size and subjected to any type of loading, is one of the main contributions of this work. Another contribution is about the consideration of the horizontal load in the plate-pile-soil system, directly applied to the plate, and not redistributed on the top of the piles. Therefore, the laminar structural elements (rafts, footings, and foundation blocks) are modeled by flat shell finite elements, making possible the consideration of the effects of flexion and membrane. This approach allows the analysis of both a capped pile group and a piled raft of any stiffness. The coupling between the BEM and the FEM is performed through a mixed formulation in which the matrix of the soil\'s influence coefficients obtained by the BEM is added to the stiffness matrix of the structural elements obtained by the FEM, resulting in an equivalent stiffness matrix. Numerical examples of pile-soil, plate-soil and flat shell-pile-soil interaction are solved to verify, validate and demonstrate the efficiency of the developed and implemented formulations.

The development of rapid genotyping methods for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Stephens, Alex J. January 2008 (has links)
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an important human pathogen that is endemic in hospitals all over the world. It has more recently emerged as a serious threat to the general public in the form of community-acquired MRSA. MRSA has been implicated in a wide variety of diseases, ranging from skin infections and food poisoning to more severe and potentially fatal conditions, including; endocarditis, septicaemia and necrotising pneumonia. Treatment of MRSA disease is complicated and can be unsuccessful due to the bacterium's remarkable ability to develop antibiotic resistance. The considerable economic and public health burden imposed by MRSA has fuelled attempts by researchers to understand the evolution of virulent and antibiotic resistant strains and thereby improve epidemiological management strategies. Central to MRSA transmission management strategies is the implementation of active surveillance programs, via which unique genetic fingerprints, or genotypes, of each strain can be identified. Despite numerous advances in MRSA genotyping methodology, there remains a need for a rapid, reproducible, cost-effective method that is capable of producing a high level of genotype discrimination, whilst being suitable for high throughput use. Consequently, the fundamental aim of this thesis was to develop a novel MRSA genotyping strategy incorporating these benefits. This thesis explored the possibility that the development of more efficient genotyping strategies could be achieved through careful identification, and then simple interrogation, of multiple, unlinked DNA loci that exhibit progressively increasing mutation rates. The baseline component of the MRSA genotyping strategy described in this thesis is the allele-specific real-time PCR interrogation of slowly evolving core single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The genotyping SNP set was identified previously from the Multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) sequence database using an in-house software package named Minimum SNPs. As discussed in Chapter Three, the genotyping utility of the SNP set was validated on 107 diverse Australian MRSA isolates, which were largely clustered into groups of related strains as defined by MLST. To increase the resolution of the SNP genotyping method, a selection of binary virulence genes and antimicrobial resistance plasmids were tested that were successful at sub typing the SNP groups. A comprehensive MRSA genotyping strategy requires characterisation of the clonal background as well as interrogation of the hypervariable Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) that carries the β-lactam resistance gene, mecA. SCCmec genotyping defines the MRSA lineages; however, current SCCmec genotyping methods have struggled to handle the increasing number of SCCmec elements resulting from a recent explosion of comparative genomic analyses. Chapter Four of this thesis collates the known SCCmec binary marker diversity and demonstrates the ability of Minimum SNPs to identify systematically a minimal set of binary markers capable of generating maximum genotyping resolution. A number of binary targets were identified that indeed permit high resolution genotyping of the SCCmec element. Furthermore, the SCCmec genotyping targets are amenable for combinatorial use with the MLST genotyping SNPs and therefore are suitable as the second component of the MRSA genotyping strategy. To increase genotyping resolution of the slowly evolving MLST SNPs and the SCCmec binary markers, the analysis of a hypervariable repeat region was required. Sequence analysis of the Staphylococcal protein A (spa) repeat region has been conducted frequently with great success. Chapter Five describes the characterisation of the tandem repeats in the spa gene using real-time PCR and high resolution melting (HRM) analysis. Since the melting rate and precise point of dissociation of double stranded DNA is dependent on the size and sequence of the PCR amplicon, the HRM method was used successfully to identify 20 of 22 spa sequence types, without the need for DNA sequencing. The accumulation of comparative genomic information has allowed the systematic identification of key MRSA genomic polymorphisms to genotype MRSA efficiently. If implemented in its entirety, the strategy described in this thesis would produce efficient and deep-rooted genotypes. For example, an unknown MRSA isolate would be positioned within the MLST defined population structure, categorised based on its SCCmec lineage, then subtyped based on the polymorphic spa repeat region. Overall, by combining the genotyping methods described here, an integrated and novel MRSA genotyping strategy results that is efficacious for both long and short term investigations. Furthermore, an additional benefit is that each component can be performed easily and cost-effectively on a standard real-time PCR platform.

Another negative factor is the disposal of waste gypsum in inappropriate places, thus contributing to the degradation of environmental quality, due to the leaching of this waste and may trigger the formation of sulfuric acid. Therefore, based on this picture, processing and reuse of waste coating, combined with the ceramics industry, which is a strong potential in the reuse of certain types of waste, promote mutual benefits. Thus the overall objective of this work is to conduct a search with scientific and technological aspects, to determine the effect of the incorporation of the residue of plaster for coating, from the building, the formulation of bodies for red ceramic. The residue of plaster coating was collected and characterized. They were also selected raw materials of two ceramic poles of the state of Rio Grande do Norte and formulations have been made with the intention of obtaining those with the best physical and mechanical properties, the residue was added the percentage of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30%, in the best formulation of ceramic industry 1 and, according the properties analyses, 5%, 10% and 15% as the best results of ceramic industry 2. The samples were sintered at temperatures of 850 ?C, 950 ?C and 1050 ?C, the heating rate of 5 ?C / min with isotherm of two hours. They were submitted to testing technology, such as lineal shrinkage, water absorption, apparent porosity, apparent density and bending resistence. The residue incorporation best results in the formulations of mass in red ceramic, were observed between the temperatures of 850 ?C and 950 ?C, in those formulations that have illite clays and medium plastic in their composition, in the range of 0% to 15% residue incorporated / Na constru??o civil, durante o processo de execu??o de grandes ou at? mesmo pequenas obras, h? um desperd?cio consider?vel de gesso nas etapas de revestimento, tornando-se este um fator negativo, pois parte das perdas destes processos construtivos permanece incorporada nas constru??es, na forma de componentes, cujas dimens?es finais s?o superiores ?quelas projetadas.

No. of bitstreams: 1 HarrisonAD.pdf: 3488100 bytes, checksum: 805801db06d21e5667735d16a5799fe2 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-05-30 / The cobalt-chromium alloy is extensively used in the Odontology for the confection of metallic scaffolding in partial removable denture. During the last few years, it has been reported an increasing number of premature imperfections, with a few months of prosthesis use. The manufacture of these components is made in prosthetic laboratories and normally involves recasting, using parts of casting alloy and parts of virgin alloy. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to analyze the mechanical properties of a commercial cobalt-chromium alloy of odontological use after successive recasting, searching information to guide the dental prosthesis laboratories in the correct manipulation of the cobalt-chromium alloy in the process of casting and the possible limits of recasting in the mechanical properties of this material. Seven sample groups were confectioned, each one containing five test bodies, divided in the following way: G1: casting only with virgin alloy; G2: casting with 50% of the alloy of the G1 + 50% of virgin alloy; G3: casting with 50% of the alloy of the G2 + 50% of virgin alloy; G4: casting with 50% of the alloy of the G3 + 50% of virgin alloy; G5: 50% of alloy of the G4 + 50% of virgin alloy; G6: 50% of alloy of the G5 + 50% of virgin alloy and finally the G7, only with recasting alloy. The modifications in the mechanical behavior of the alloy were evaluated. Moreover, it was carried the micro structural characterization of the material by optic and electronic scanning microscopy, and X ray diffraction.and fluorescence looking into the correlatation of the mechanical alterations with structural modifications of the material caused by successive recasting process. Generally the results showed alterations in the fracture energy of the alloy after successive recasting, resulting mainly of the increasing presence of pores and large voids, characteristic of the casting material. Thus, the interpretation of the results showed that the material did not reveal significant differences with respect to the tensile strength or elastic limit, as a function of successive recasting. The elastic modulus increased from the third recasting cycle on, indicating that the material can be recast only twice. The fracture energy of the material decreased, as the number of recasting cycles increased. With respect to the microhardness, the statistical analyses showedno significant differences. Electronic scanning microscopy revealed the presence of imperfections and defects, resulting of the recasting process. X ray diffraction and fluorescence did not show alterations in the composition of the alloy or the formation of crystalline phases between the analyzed groups. The optical micrographs showed an increasing number of voids and porosity as the material was recast. Therefore, the general conclusion of this study is that the successive recasting of of Co-Cr alloys affects the mechanical properties of the material, consequently leading to the failure of the prosthetic work. Based on the results, the best recommendadition is that the use of the material should be limited to two recasting cycles / Ligas cobalto-cromo s?o extensivamente utilizadas na Odontologia para a confec??o de arma??es met?licas em pr?teses parciais remov?veis. Em rela??o ? microdureza, as an?lises estat?sticas mostraram n?o haver diferen?as significativas.

Cavalcanti, Daniel Jatobá de Holanda 12 May 2006 (has links)
In this work, it is proposed a mechanical behavior analysis of the soil-structure interaction from the development of a computational code using a coupling static formulation of Boundary Element Method (BEM) and Finite Element Method (FEM) for the displacements and stress calculation in structures in contact to the half space. Thus, it is intended to model the structure using the bending plate finite element DKT (discrete Kirchhoff triangle) and applying the concepts of the Boundary Element Method (BEM) formulation to model the soil, considered as a half- infinite and/or infinite space and using Kelvin s fundamental solution. The coupling between the media is done using the sub-regions technique. From the computational code development some practical examples of engineering are implemented, such as: soil-structure interaction analysis in superficial and buried plate foundations and others engineering structures, study on the behavior of a half- infinite space from the application of a distributed and concentrated load, analysis of bodies submitted to bend and traction, among others applications. Aplicação do acoplamento entre o método dos elementos de contorno e o método dos elementos finitos para a análise bidimensional da interação solo-estrutura / Application of the coupling between the boundary element method and the finite element method for analysis of the bidimensional soil-structure interaction

Vieira, Camila de Sousa 03 April 2009 (has links)
This study aims the development of a computational tool used to analyze two dimensional problems of soil-structure interaction, where soil is modeled by Boundary Element Method (BEM) and structures are treated by the Finite Element Method (FEM). Fundamental solutions of Kelvin 2D and Melan to BEM are implemented, where boundary elements with linear approximation are used. Structures modeled with FEM are discretized with two-dimensional frame finite elements. Coupling among media is done using the sub-region technique, where conditions of compatibility of displacements and equilibrium of tractions are applied to the interfaces between various sub-regions. Both soil and structures are considered as composed of homogeneous, isotropic, elastic and linear materials. However, sub-region technique allows the soil to be considered as stratified. Application for various acting loads, on structure or on soil, are considered slow, therefore the proposed analyses are statics. Examples are presented using the developed computational code.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2094299 bytes, checksum: 783d6f9949086fb75e4a51fc3adbd48a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-04-22 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / In this work, new solutions based on the Boundary Element Method (BEM) are established for the linear analysis of bending and stability problems of Reddy-Bickford beams. All mathematical steps to write the BEM representation are properly presented: transformation of governing differential equations into equivalent integral equations, deduction of fundamental solutions, formation and solution of algebraic representation. In addition, elastic foundations (winkler and pasternak’s types) attached to Reddy-Bickford beams are solved by BEM as well. It is also addressed a convenient strategy for discontinuities in the area such as abrupt change in geometry of the cross section (stepped beam), intermediate axial load, intermediate supports (continuous beam). Numerical examples incorporating various types of discontinuities and boundary conditions in the field are presented to validate the solutions proposed BEM.
