System architecture service oriented for analisys with experiments at bee Weblabs.

Leite, Marcelo de Queiroz 04 August 2011 (has links)
The preparation, execution, collection and closing of an experiment using computational means to support the research, is a complex activity because it requires specific knowledge of the researcher to whom he was not prepared to act. WebLabs are known support tools to researchers, because they allow performing experiments without the physical presence of the research team. Among the activities undertaken by the researcher, after collecting data, performs the analysis of data, in which mathematical and statistical models are applied to interpret the data. In a Weblab experiments are performed through web in remote laboratories, and also needed to analyze the data obtained with the data collection. The mathematical model used along with their interpretation are events that are part of the experiment, but are not treated that way today in Weblabs. This paper proposes the specification of reference architecture to be used as a template to allow the development of components that provide services with the ability to make the integration of data collected through scientific experiments carried out with the help of weblabs with tools aimed at environmental and biodiversity experiments. The specification is based on the paradigm of service oriented architecture, allowing management analysis using Weblab experiments and providing the services specified for operation in distributed environments. This model is the basis for a case study with the development of a proof of concept, through development of a component that publishes and distributes and integrates the data collected in a Weblab with a special tool in environmental analysis.

A model to schema and data maintenance in data warehouses implemented at mobile platforms.

Italiano, Isabel Cristina 11 June 2007 (has links)
This work presents an architecture for using Data Warehouses in mobile computers and describes the architecture components (data and processes) that allow the data synchronism based on metadata and restricted to the scope of access for each user. The data structures and the processes composing the architecture are reduced to already known and solved problems, justifying its feasibility. Besides, this work also provides the guidelines to evaluate the complexity and impact caused by changes of schema in the central Data Warehouse that must be reflected in the data marts located in the mobile platforms. The analysis of the complexity and impact of the changes made to the schemas may help environment administrators to plan these changes and propose better alternatives when dealing with more complex schema changes causing a greater impact on the environment. The relevance of this work is related to real cases that require evolution of analytical databases (Data Warehouse) in mobile computers in which the users keep their own subset of Data Warehouse information to support their business processes.

Computational strategies to support interoperability between models processed by species distribution modeling tools.

Borba, Cleverton Ferreira 15 August 2017 (has links)
The research area called Informatics for Biodiversity faces the challenge of meeting the demand for technology to support biodiversity conservation. Among the areas of ecology that benefit from technological resources, the modeling of species distribution is notable for the number of tools and algorithms developed to researchers in this area. However, studies have shown that modeling has become more complex, as well as the need for improvements in the application of new techniques and computational solutions. The computational interoperability for biodiversity data, which includes models generated by modeling tools, is cited by authors and researchers in the field as a concern that demands studies, definition of best practices and computing solutions. Each topic that involves modeling such as algorithms, parameters, occurrence data, environmental layers, tools, techniques for the elaboration of models, standards of metadata and application profiles are objects of study of this dissertation. This thesis presents a computational strategy to support the interoperability between the models generated by the modeling tools of species distribution, through the use of metadata standards and the development of an application profile that supports this interoperability. Two case studies are presented with the objective of validating these strategies and we also present a computational architecture to support communities to develop of modeling tools to seek this interoperability between the data supplied and processed by them. The contributions of this work involve the provision of an application profile for the area of species distribution modeling, a software prototype to process the models generated by the modeling tools, the incentive and use of the digital objetct identification to make data available, and in addition to the process of research and validation of methodologies that were used to summarize the results of this research.

Language Classification of Music Using Metadata

Roxbergh, Linus January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate how metadata from Spotify could be used to identify the language of songs in a dataset containing nine languages. Features based on song name, album name, genre, regional popularity and vectors describing songs, playlists and users were analysed individually and in combination with each other in different classifiers. In addition to this, this report explored how different levels of prediction confidence affects performance and how it compared to a classifier based on audio input. A random forest classifier proved to have the best performance with an accuracy of 95.4% for the whole data set. Performance was also investigated when the confidence of the model was taken into account, and when only keeping more confident predictions from the model, accuracy was higher. When keeping the 70% most confident predictions an accuracy of 99.4% was achieved. The model also proved to be robust to input of other languages than it was trained on, and managed to filter out unwanted records not matching the languages of the model. A comparison was made to a classifier based on audio input, where the model using metadata performed better on the training and test set used. Finally, a number of possible improvements and future work were suggested.

Learning objects (LO) are getting more importance in the education environment, providing digital resources that are increasingly common in both classrooms and e-learning teaching. Nowadays, these objects can be found in educational materials, without being explicitly defined as learning objects. During the latest years the use of learning objects is growing up, bringing with that the necessity of solutions for the cataloging and editing metadata information about these objects to make possible the recovery, reuse and even the change of these objects. To give support for this task, this dissertation proposes an intelligent learning object metadata editor, the Linnaeus system, which will provide help for the cataloging process of learning objects through the use of intelligent agents, and semantic web technologies, in the form of editing wizards and learning domain educational ontologies.

Metadata på webben : en studie av metadata och dess användning på sex svenska högskolors och universitets webbplatser / Metadata on the Internet : a study of metadata and its use at Web sites of six Swedish universities and colleges

Stenäng, Marie January 2000 (has links)
The purpose of this Master's thesis is to study metadata and its use at Web sites of six Swedish universities and colleges. Each Web site has been examined at three different hierarchical levels and the total number of examined Web pages is 258. 16 questionnaires have also been sent to webmasters at the six universities and colleges. The results show that metadata refers to the data which can assist to organize, describe, identify, locate, evaluate and retrieve resources on the Internet. Even though there are several different metadata formats available on the Internet, the commercial search engines only support the HTML's title tag and the meta tags with the attributes keywords and description. The six examined Web sites use the meta tag to some extent. The metadata format Dublin Core is represented in a small number of the examined Web pages. Search engines usually present the title tag and the description tag of Web pages in the search results. Therefore, it seems especially important to provide good title and description tags. The study of the three different hierarchical levels at each Web site shows a difference in the use of metadata. At some levels the HTML's meta tag is not used at all. In the questionnaires, the webmasters describe the Web sites as decentralized, where each webmaster only answers for his/her part of the Web site. The differences in the use of metadata could be due to each webmaster's interest and knowledge of metadata. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Social bokmärkeshantering på webben : en översikt över webbplatser med användardefinierad taggning / Social Bookmarking on the Web : a review of websites with user-defined tagging

Almestad, Gustav, Jäger, Ran January 2007 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine collaborative tagging as a potential asset to libraries by a review of 10 social bookmarking sites and their features, and a discussion of these features’ possible use when the environment changes from the web to a library. Previous research on collaborative tagging is presented, as well as overviews of social bookmarking, folksonomies and the concept of Web 2.0 and Library 2.0. The study itself is presented as a walkthrough of common features and how they work, followed by a schematic overview of which sites have which features. Finally each site is presented in a more detailed manner. An example of social bookmarking within a library, PennTags, is then also described. The results show that there are great differences to be found among the social bookmarking sites, in both features and in which tools they offer. As some features have become more common since previous similar studies, there are also one or two unique features for almost every site. Many of the younger sites have adopted the more social approach instead of being mainly an organizational tool, with an emphasis on features like groups and lists of friends. The analysis uses previous research and the results combined to answer which features could be suitable for a library environment, and how to use them. The conclusion is that many features can be considered useful in a library portal, although not all, and that the motives and preferences of each library affect which features are suitable.

Vetenskapsakademien / Cataloguing a special collection by the means of TEI : A methodological study performed on the Swedenborg Archives at the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences

Berggren, Maria January 2008 (has links)
In this thesis, the TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) encoding scheme is investigated as a system for storing metadata about manuscript material and 18th century first prints in the Swedenborg Archives at the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences. The aim of the study is to test the functionality of TEI as a metadata system in cataloguing a special collection. Some criteria of functionality are formulated, and examples of encoded catalogue entries are described and analysed. It is demonstrated how descriptive metadata have been registered within the TEI header, while structural metadata have been recorded within the text element of the TEI file. On the whole, TEI is considered to be a functional tool that matches the present purposes. Some weaknesses are pointed to, however: For example, the TEI encoding scheme is not perceived to be fully satisfying for presenting descriptive metadata about manuscripts and prints in the same volume, and, moreover, it is not considered fully appropriate for describing abstract logical text structure in relation to the physical structure of the document. Lastly, TEI is compared to two other metadata systems, the AACR2, ch. 4, and AMREMM. A general conclusion is that the TEI offers a set of guidelines that can easily be adapted to specific needs, while a system for cataloguing in a more proper sense must also contain a set of rules concerning what categories of data are to be included, and in what form it is to be done. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Nationellt uppdrag och internationellt samarbete : Nationalbibliotekens bevarandemetadata för digitalt skapat material / National Mission and International Cooperation : National Libraries preservation metadata for born-digital material

Mecklenburg, Martina January 2008 (has links)
The National Libraries task to save and preserve the national cultural heritage has turned to a new challenge in a digital world. The preservation of born-digital material for future use requires not only saving the digital object itself but also information about the object, preservation metadata. This is a relatively new issue and the library community has very little experience in this area. It has become evident that international cooperation is necessary to solve the task and that the development of international standards is of fundamental significance. This thesis investigates what has been done to meet the problems with the fast obsolescence of digital material with the focus on metadata. It examines the international collaboration in this area and the results. Ten European national libraries were inquired and their approach to long term preservation of the born-digital heritage concerning collection and strategies for handling of preservation metadata. The study shows that the Scandinavian countries began collecting with web harvesting while most countries in Central Europe work with deliveries. It is also shown that the regional differences are becoming smaller and that today most of the countries are following a combined approach. Web harvesting requires a different management of metadata than digital deliveries. However, within the different methods the solutions are rather close. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Metadata i publikationsdatabaser Hur används DSpace? / Metadata in institutional repositories How is DSpace used?

Kaage, Gabriella January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to study how libraries handle metadata in institutional repositories. The methodology of the study is semi-structured interviews with librarians from all Swedish libraries that currently use the institutional repository system DSpace. Metadata schemes from the different libraries have also been studied. As analytical tools the study uses the user tasks presented in Functional Requirement for Bibliographic Records, as well as a study of metadata quality made by Jung-Ran Park. The study shows a rather big difference between the ways the libraries use institutional repositories. Some of the libraries use their repository as a full text database, while others use it for all publications within the organization with bibliometric functions. The study also shows that there is a difference in the use of metadata. Some of the libraries use the metadata elements created by Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, while others create their own elements. / Program: Bibliotekarie
