Terénní sociální práce v ohrožených rodinách / Field social work in vulnerable families

This thesis treats the service "Field Social Work in vulnerable families" provided by Diakonie of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren - The Center of Christian Aid in Prague. This service is regarded as one of the most effective types of interventions to vulnerable families. The support of such families is based both on the concept of social functioning and related life situations, as well as on the approaches and concepts (paradigms of social work) of the specific field social workers. The process of evaluating the life situation of a family is rather a difficult one which until today has not been standardized throughout the Czech Republic. On the 1st January 2013 a new Decree No. 473/2012 Coll. came into force, introducing a form designed for evaluating the life situations of a child. Since then there has been an ongoing reform in the Department of Social and Legal Protection of Children. The service Field social work in vulnerable families would like to follow this reform. That is why it is necessary to map the present state of evaluating life situations of families with children in our Service and use the results in order to create an effective and efficient method for future work. Týrané, zneužívané a zanedbávané dítě / Child abuse and neglect

This dissertation is focused on some problems of maltreated, abused or neglected children and it also tries to outline a contemporary view of this situation. Considerable changes occured in this field after breaking a taboo on this subject, which is presented as a topic for a wide discussion. In my work I tried to give a complex view of some aspects of maltreated, abused or neglected children problems. Furthemore I focused on the problems of a public awareness concerning maltreated, abused or neglected children, and possible public activities in this field. I also investigated a public awareness of civic associations (i. e. organisations, institutions or facilities) which take care of endangered children in Trhové Sviny and nearby sorroundings. This research was based on a standardised questionaire. According to an analysis of its results, it is possible to to state a negation of both hypotheses in which I originally considered a public awareness of maltreated, abused or neglected children low, or likewise, I pressumed that a public awareness of the above mentioned organisations (civic associations, institutions) would not be very high. In spite of these conclusions it is a safe assumption that the tasks given to find out a situation in a public awareness concerning the endangered children, were fulfilled.

The socially isolated child at school

The phenomenon of social isolation among school children in most instances goes unnoticed by both teachers and parents and this oversight could have serious negative restraints on the socially isolated child's cognitive, affective, moral, personality and social development. Social isolation can be caused either through being rejected or neglected by the peer group. This study was carried out among primary and secondary school learners to detei:,mine the extent to which these children are socially isolated; and to identify factors contributing to learners' social isolation. The aim of the study is to provide teachers and parents with a foundation and rationale for effective intervention. A literature study was done to identify the factors influencing social isolation. Some of the factors identified were: social competence, self-esteem, psychological well-being, intelligence, academic achievement, moral values, physical disability, sports participation, self-perceived physical attractiveness, self-perceived physical disability, marital status of parents, parental supervision, parental acceptance, parental autonomy granting and parental conflict. All aspects of development (namely, physical, cognitive, affective, personality, moral and social) were studied in relation to the phenomenon of social isolation. By means of an empirical investigation, it was found after a regression analysis that self-esteem, obedience and social competence accounted for most of the variance in social isolation for primary school learners and in the case of secondary school learners, social competence, family supervision and self-esteem. The two most common factors were social competence and selfesteem. From the empirical findings it was also noted that learners' home language and grade were also associated with social isolation. The educational implications of the findings of the literature and the empirical study are discussed and guidelines given to assist teachers and parents to identify and eliminate the factors contributing to the development of isolation among school learners. If both parents and teachers take cognisance of these recommendations and try to implement them, it should help children in their self-actualisation and facilitate their attainment of adulthood with the least developmental restraints. / Psychology of Education / D. Thesis Transgeneration transfer of aggressive behaviour in families as a cause of domestic violence has theoretically - empirical nature and is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is defined by the family, its functions, types, and family pathology is described in the context of domestic violence and CAN syndrome. The central chapters of this section also deal with educational styles, parental attitudes, characteristics of domestic violence and child development in families with the occurrence of domestic violence. The practical part includes a qualitative analysis of documents, families affected by domestic violence, held at the Municipal Office Prachatice, department of Social and legal protection of children. The analysis examined whether these families can be considered the transgeneration transfer patterns of behaviour and styles of upbringing family to multiply family. The analysis is complemented by interviewed case study. Factors contributing to the neglect and abuse of foster children : social workers’ perspectives and suggestions

The child protection system includes foster care. Yet some foster children are neglected, physically or emotionally abused and are used to obtain Foster Care Grants. The essence of this study is to develop a thorough and comprehensive understanding from the frame of reference of social workers on the factors that contribute to the neglect and abuse of foster children as well as their suggestions about possible interventions. The qualitative research approach was applied. The researcher utilised purposive sampling to select social workers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather information and data was analysed. AN EXAMINATION OF INFLUENCES ON CHRISTIAN PARENTS’ CONCEPTUALIZATIONS OF RELIGIOUSLY RELATED CHILD MALTREATMENT AND RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION LAWS IN INDIANA

<p dir="ltr">Exposure to child maltreatment and neglect have lifelong negative impacts (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2016; Sheffler et al., 2020; Vig et al., 2020). While there are known risk factors that make a child more likely to experience abuse, there is little examination of the potential influence of parent or caregiver religious beliefs on the perpetration of child maltreatment (Beller et al., 2021; Ellison & Bradshaw, 2009; Rodrigues & Henderson, 2010; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022a). The prevalence of religiously related child maltreatment (RRCM) in the United States is unknown, and research has been limited to examinations of outlying Christian groups (Asser & Swan, 1998; Bottoms et al., 2015; Bullis, 1991; Simon et al., 2012; Sinal et al., 2008). However, there are some indications that instances of religiously related child maltreatment have been found to occur in mainstream sects such as Protestant denominations (Bottoms et al., 1995; Bottoms et al., 2015). This dissertation sought to examine how mainstream Protestant Christian parents (Evangelical & Mainline) conceptualized what was harmful or not to children in relation to their religious belief systems. Furthermore, this research examined the potential factors of influence on how Protestant Christian parents perceived child maltreatment and their perceptions of religious exemption applications to children.</p><p dir="ltr">An exploratory qualitative research design was taken to examine these research questions. A total of 23 semi-structured interviews were conducted with Indiana Protestant Christian parents. Interviews were transcribed and then analyzed using reflective thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2019; Braun & Clarke, 2020a, 2020b). Findings indicated that Protestant Christian parents across both denominations considered their religious beliefs to be a positive influence on how they raise their children, in particular, how they modeled showing love without judgment to others. Denominational differences were seen in modeling of love without judgment to marginalized communities. The personal experiences of Protestant Christian parents and their religious beliefs were influential factors on how these parents perceived what was harmful to children. When examining parents' awareness of religious exemption applications to childcare and parenting, most Protestant Christian parents indicated limited awareness. Thematic tensions were present when examining parents’ discussions of the use of religious exemptions for childcare and parenting practices. One tension was the parental right to religious exemption use versus the potential harm that could befall children through the use of such religious exemptions. These findings provide direction for future research to improve understanding of how mainstream Protestant Christian parents conceptualize what is harmful to children and the factors of influence.</p>

The dissertation thesis "Relationship of parents to minors with regard to the specifics of domestic violence" focuses in particular on judicial proceedings in cases of custody of minors where family relationships are affected by domestic violence. It attempts to explain why it is necessary for the courts to take into account this fact and to adopt such measures within their decisions to provide sufficient protection to persons at risk and at the same time to stop violent behaviour. Domestic violence as a dangerous social phenomenon is described in detail; information on its individual appearances and forms is brought; briefly mentioned are also other scientific disciplines whose knowledge is important not only for the recourse of offenders and the protection of victims but also for creation of a strategy of effective prevention. Negative impacts on mental state of minors are stressed, who must be viewed in all cases of domestic violence as its victims, i.e. also when the violent behaviour is not immediately directed against them. The thesis brings interpretation of the current legislation with reference to the most important changes in the legislation in the last decade. The circularity of trauma-addiction-trauma

Text in English / The rationale for the study was to investigate the symbiotic connection of trauma and addiction. The focus is on childhood trauma and the turn to addictive practices to quell the memories and experiences endured as children. Chapter One discusses the methodology regarding the approach of the study and includes an introductory literature review of the phenomena. Additional literature is included in the ensuing chapters. A personal account of the motivation behind the research is chronicled in Chapter Two. In this chapter, I share with the readers my personal experiences around trauma and addiction in my family of origin. The notion of the blending of trauma and addiction is the focus of Chapter Three. It includes the approach to treatment of trauma and addiction as well as addiction counsellor training in the South African context. The storied lives of the participants and their experiences of trauma and addiction are encapsulated in Chapter Four.
