An Anglican parish in transformation : the history of St. Margaret’s, Parow, 1942 - 1995

Davids, Tessa Dawn 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch Univeristy, 2013. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study is an historical analysis of the History of St. Margaret’s Anglican Parish, situated in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. While documenting the history of the parish since its establishment in 1942, it also critically examines its response to the socio-political changes the country was going through such as the Group Areas Act and in so doing, determines the extent of its own transformation. St. Margaret’s was not the first Anglican parish in Parow. An Anglican presence existed in Parow since 1900 with St. John the Baptist being the first parish along with an Anglican primary school, namely Glen Lily. The Anglican parishes of Parow were profoundly affected by apartheid, especially the Group Areas Act which completely changed the landscape of the town and the roles of the parishes. It led to the deconsecration of St. John’s and the closure of Glen Lily Primary school. The church building survived, but the school was completely demolished. St. Margaret’s did became an independent parish, but faced many challenges as it struggled to cope with the call from the Anglican Church to become agents of reconciliation while Archbishop Tutu called for sanctions against South Africa and seemingly supported the armed struggle. Despite the unhappiness with the Archbishop’s call for greater commitment to the abolition of apartheid, the congregation did in time find its own metier.

Historie farnosti Olešnice na konci 18. a v průběhu 19. století / The history of the Olešnice parish in the late 18th and during the 19th century

WAGNEROVÁ, Miluše January 2011 (has links)

Leadership as service of a parish in mission

Prior, Laurence Paul 06 1900 (has links)
This study is concerned with the style of leadership needed to enable the church to fully express itself in mission. The renewed ecclesiology of the Second Vatican council, in which the church is said to be missionary by nature, is reviewed. The fundamental structure of the church is described theologically under the themes of the people of God, creation of the Holy Spirit and the body of Christ. A study of the Council's teaching on a pyramidal style ofleadership leads to the conclusion that it is inadequate for implementing the teaching on the missionary nature of the church. A review of post-Vatican II ecclesial movements worldwide points to a strong desire among many for a church of greater participation with a more personal leadership style. A study of leadership in the corporate world shows how a servant-style is replacing the traditional pyramidal structure. It is shown how this servant-leadership style could also be used in the church. The results of a qualitative research study of St. Joseph's Parish in Metro Manila, Philippines, are presented. This shows how the pastor gathered around him a group of lay leaders who share and express his style of servant-leadership. This part of the study begins by setting the historical context within which this parish exists by giving an overview of the history of the church in the Philippines and then shows how the leaders of St. Joseph's Parish motivated a passive congregation to become a church-in-mission. This occurred over a number of years through the parishioners being invited to full participation in parish life and becoming involved in service of those in need. An intense formation programme by parish leaders, who used a servant-leadership style, helped lead this parish from its former passivity to a manifestation of the missionary nature of the church. The study concludes by identifying some themes for further research. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D.Th.(Missiology)

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation integrates research line: Integration, Politics and Frontier, the MA in History of UFSM, and had the support of CAPES, through Stock Exchange DS. The objective focused on characterizing the commercial activity practiced in the Parish of St. Patrick Itaqui, located on the western border of the province of Rio Grande de São Pedro, Brazil, between 1850 and 1870. The commercial activity during this period involved a multitude of activities that have developed in local character, involving merchants, traders and moneylenders, who stood out in this border town, being identified from the records in the primary sources of legal and administrative character. Exploratory research and analytical documentary sources as the Common Shares Civil and Crime, Post-Mortem inventories, records of Notary Notary and Attorney Itaqui, found in the Public Archives of Porto Alegre, were added to the lists of Customs and Reports Mayor of Itaqui, located in the Historical Archive of Porto Alegre, to describe an activity marked by diversification of market practices and strategies implemented by merchants, traders and brokers in these spaces. It was observed that the large influx market, with the entrance of the harbor of St. Patrick Parish Itaqui, allowed the rise of characters like Manuel Marenco and Emigdio Bonorino, which began to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by maintaining links and ties political and economic elites in these spaces, to discuss plots of power at the local level. The capital that transited in free space would promote the promotion of commercial sectors in areas of wholesale and retail dry goods, practiced sales and shops, plus the actions of domestic and foreign businessmen linked to narrower markets involving credits, loans, land and cattle. Itaqui these contacts can enlarge spaces of economic exploitation allowing the performance of a number of agents in the expanded flows and local spaces / A presente dissertação integra a linha de pesquisa: Integração, Política e Fronteira, do Mestrado em História da UFSM, e contou com o apoio do CAPES, por meio da Bolsa DS.

Sartori, Tríssia Ordovás 11 November 2016 (has links)
Submitted by cmquadros@ucs.br (cmquadros@ucs.br) on 2018-01-30T16:57:21Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese Tríssia Ordovás Sartori.pdf: 2683308 bytes, checksum: fbc5b3aedd06bd0606a1f5a8ec336d57 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2018-01-30T16:57:21Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese Tríssia Ordovás Sartori.pdf: 2683308 bytes, checksum: fbc5b3aedd06bd0606a1f5a8ec336d57 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-01-30 / The present work, conducted in the Doctoral Program in Literature at the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS) and the University Center Ritter dos Reis (UniRitter), research located in the branch of Onomastics, has as the main objective to map the names of the children baptized in Saint Teresa Parish, in Caxias do Sul-RS, as well as to relate them to the historical, sociocultural and religious context of the community. The method used in the development of the present study was the inductive. We started from the recorded data, proceeded to their analysis and explained them, to then establish generalizations. The research is documental and bibliographic, and takes into account the qualitative analysis model, combining it with the quantitative for the use of data, their occurrences and their percentages. The cut made for this study comprises the coverage area of St. Teresa Parish, in Caxias do Sul-RS. It was chosen this parish community for being it the first church established, in May 20, 1884, in the then Caxias Colony, nine years after the arrival of the Italian immigrants. By its interdisciplinary character, the Onomastic study establishes other relations concerning the name, showing linguistic and cultural aspects that relate both to an individual, as to the community in which he lives.
