Narratives of Risk and Pleasure Among Participants Engaged in a Nurse-Led PrEP Service

Halligan, Colton 28 June 2023 (has links)
This research analyzed themes relating to the concepts of risk, risk taking, and pleasure by completing a secondary analysis of participant transcripts collected from the PrEP-RN study conducted by Dr. O'Byrne at the University of Ottawa in collaboration with Ottawa Public Health. Analysis was completed to relate risk, risk taking and pleasure in the context of PrEP-RN, but also identify areas for educational improvement in relation to the selected concepts. The research question sought explanation on the relationship that risk has with risk reduction and risk taking, including analysis of condom usage, risk conversation with partners and general sexual health practices while on PrEP. Additionally, the research sought to answer if PrEP-RN participation had any impact on sexual pleasure, analyzing subthemes of stereotyping, security and desire relating to pleasure. Transcript analysis identified that a reduction in condom usage, improved frequency of sexually transmitted infection testing, promotion of conversations with partners surrounding PrEP and sexual health, and a reduction in sexual fear and anxiety with partners were major themes stemming from PrEP-RN participation. A need to increase education surrounding continued condom usage while on PrEP and identify ways to reduce stigmatization of PrEP were identified as ways to improve the PrEP-RN program.

Lust att föda. En kvalitativ studie om kvinnors lustfyllda och sexuella upplevelser under födandet

Karlsson, Ingrid January 2011 (has links)
The aim of the present thesis is to find deeper knowledge about women’s experiences of sexuality, desire and pleasure during childbirth. In this thesis there are statements of women’s different kinds of pleasurable and sexual feelings and experiences during birth. Furthermore, factors that may influence some women’s feelings and experiences of a sexual kind are discussed in relation to the common notion that women above all feel fear and pain when giving birth. The thesis is based on ten unstructured interviews with women who have all given birth, most of them recently and in some cases more than ten years ago. The women had all stated before the interview that they had had some kind of pleasurable and/or sexual experiences during or in connection with their childbirth.Result: Almost all of the women who were interviewed had, before giving birth, been unaware about the possibility of lustful and sexual dimensions during labour. There was one statement of experiences not being pleasurable at all during the actual birth but this woman mentioned pleasurable sensations after the baby was born. Some of the women experienced pleasurable and lustful sensations during contractions while others experienced orgasm or preorgasmic sensations during the last part of the pushing stage. There were informants who experienced feelings of desire and/or orgasmic sensations in spite of having epidural analgesia. The women who had experiences of desirable and sexual sensations all stated that these were exclusively personal with no participation from their partners. Nearly all of the participating women had kept these desirable and sexual experiences to themselves and not mentioned them to their partners or anyone else. An important finding was that feelings of shame and different kinds of taboos were the women’s main explanations for not talking about it. Discussion: The scientific literature in this field suggests the possibility of talking about four different discourses about birth. In this thesis the first is called “medical discourse”, with pain/painreleif, monitoring/security, riskthinking and technical development. The second one is named “discourse of ’naturalness’ ”, with influences of earthpower, “naturalness”, sexuality and awareness of the body. The third one is called “religious discourses”, with influences from the madonna myth, shame and taboos. The fourth discourse is called “feminist discourses” where rights, independent choices and sexuality are constituents. The findings suggests that these discourses influence each person`s experience while giving birth. The findings also suggest that, in accordance with the Sexual Script Theory, the influences can be seen on an inter-personal level, in an intra-personal level as well as on a cultural level. Conclusion: The Sexual Script Theory might be applicable as a way to understand women's experiences of sexuality while giving birth.

FoolsGold

Nord, Caroline January 2023 (has links)
This essay consists of a fragmental process and collection of different theories and inspirational hangups from different academics, artists and my own thoughts and memories from my childhood. The essay also consists of my own poetry and collection of words I have found describing for my own practice. My ambition is to understand why I have always been a sculptor. The research is mainly about my own relationship to Cathrene Malabous writing about destructive plasticity and how it's connected to the brain. What happens to a body and mind when you've been traumatized? And how do I connect that knowledge with my own artistic practice? The research also touches on questions relevant to our historical and contemporary society to think about when it comes to solutions for how to cure the image we have of bodies that suffer from mental illness.

Queer Sex Education - A Missed Opportunity : A project about the queer exclusivity in the old Swedish sex education curriculum / Queer Sex Education - A Missed Opportunity : A project about the queer exclusivity in the old Swedish sex education curriculum

Elfvendahl Knudsen, Ossian January 2023 (has links)
With this project I want to know how the earlier sex education has affected queer peoples experiences with sex and start a discussion of the new sexual education curriculum and if the changes to the curriculum were too late or not. My goal is to get the new generation of queer people to not forget to keep fighting for the rights that we got and to show everyone outside of the queer community the exclusivity that we have faced for years within a topic not a lot of people are talking about. To do this I interviewed queer people to get their insights and experiences from their sex education and tell their stories of exclusivity through photographic zine.

[en] ON THE CONCEPT OF HEDONÉ: PLEASURE IN NICOMACHEAN ETHICS VII AND X / [pt] SOBRE O CONCEITO DE HEDONÉ: O PRAZER A PARTIR DOS LIVROS VII E X DA ÉTICA A NICÔMACO

JEFFERSON DA SILVA BELARMINO 08 July 2021 (has links)
[en] Adopting the Nicomachean Ethics as the main source of our investigation, we will discuss, in this dissertation, about the two treatises on pleasure existent in the work in question, namely, in chapters 11, 12, 13 and 14 of book VII and in chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of book X. The first part of our research consists of a brief introduction to the ethical writings of the Stagirite, followed by a detailed mapping of the chapters just mentioned, where pleasure is approached by Aristotle in more depth. The second part corresponds to the examination of the thought contained in book VII; more specifically, we will focus on the traditional debate around the association made by Aristotle between the concepts of hedoné and enérgeia, that is, between the notions of pleasure and activity. Finally, the third and last part of this dissertation consists of the discussion about pleasure located in book X, which will better clarify the positions exposed on book VII; moreover, in this last part, we will also investigate the possible contributions of the debates about happiness, present in books I and X, to the investigations about pleasure.

Are our Hedonic Motivation and Emotions Triggered by Influencers’ Monetary Sales Promotions to Impulse Buy Online? : An explanatory study

Marin, Bianca, Bergström, Michelle, Memisevic, Anneli January 2022 (has links)
Background: Social media influencers provide their followers with different monetary sales promotions to increase purchases by the brands they endorse. Hedonic motivation and emotions initiate each other and are fulfilled through consumers' need to act. As a result, monetary sales promotions will encourage consumers to buy unplanned purchases. Previous research recommends additional quantitative research on sales promotions and influencers, and others propose more research to fill the gap on influencers' impact on society. The interest lies in how these, in turn, affect consumers' impulsive buying behavior.  Purpose: This study aims to explain the effects of hedonic motivation and emotions, triggered by social media influencers' monetary sales promotions on consumers' impulse buying online.   Methodology: This paper is explanatory, with a deductive approach to research while utilizing a quantitative strategy to achieve a cross-sectional research design. The study has three hypotheses that were deducted based on the concepts within the theoretical framework, and the data was collected through a self-completion questionnaire to receive its final results: if the hypotheses were rejected or accepted. Furthermore, the questionnaire received a total of 105 responses. Findings: All hypotheses were statistically insignificant when tested with the control variables. However, hedonic motivation was accepted when disregarding the control variables by only testing the independent variables against the dependent. Nevertheless, all hypotheses are rejected based on their statistical insignificance. Furthermore, the findings portray that the variables are too intercorrelated. While the results did not provide any practical contribution, it acknowledged the difficulties with measuring hedonic motivation, pleasure, and arousal simultaneously with impulse buying online.   Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it is concluded that there are no positive effects of hedonic motivation and emotions and that these are triggered by social media influencers' monetary sales promotion on consumers' impulse buying behavior online.

Åtgärder för ökad läslust av skönlitteratur / Measures to increase the desire of reading fiction

Stjernberg, Ester, Ali Nejad, Sara January 2024 (has links)
Several reports claims that the interest in reading has been declining for several years among young people. There is not enough time that is set aside for reading in school and there is also no follow-up on what students like to read. The fact that the students in Sweden have a reduced desire for reading, but also impaired reading ability means that the positive factors that exist with reading are absent. The aim of this research review is to see what creates a desire for reading and what challenges students' existing negative attitude towards reading. This research is relevant for the Swedish teacher profession, but also for other school subjects because reading is important for learning and for an increased understanding of words. The research review examines what reading promoting measures exist to increase the interest in reading fiction among secondary school students. The method section in this research review includes a consistent search process for articles using key terms that are linked to the question in the research review. The material resulted in ten selected scientific articles. The results of the articles showed that there are several different factors that influence students' desire to read. The results of the articles are categorized into three themes: Social Interaction as Part of Reading, Digital Tools and Selection of Literature. The conclusions of this research review are that the open dialogue in the relationship between teacher and student is important for the development of the desire to read. Students also need more time for reading at school. Digital tools and selection of fiction are other conclusions that are important to promote the desire to read

Pleasure i blickfånget : Den manliga och kvinnliga blicken i Ninja Thybergs film Pleasure

Andersson, Tilia, Zart, Jona January 2022 (has links)
Denna uppsats undersöker hur huvudkaraktären Bella Cherry framställs i fem porrinspelningsscener i filmen Pleasure (Thyberg, 2021).
